This patch gave Engineers safe spots in Raids and I like it. Both, power and condi are now over 30k dps with realistic buffs wich is pretty amazing, as they both got their uses according to each boss.

I admit I’m a bit hyped.

Using our "old’ condi raid build or is there something new in the works? I too am hyped and am just waiting to see if we actually do get taken now,or at least given the chance to!

I assume pugs are still sceptical, although dps meters will filter out bad engis pretty quickly.

The condi build is still the same, just that I’d probably stop using “Short Fuse” even on enemies where you could easily make use of the trait, as 10% increased power damage became too dominant.

So I’d go with Explosives 322, Firearms 113, Tools 111. If you’re ranging a lot or can’t handle the streamlined mortar proc, go for Tools 131.

Thanks for that!! And dps meters…yea, not sure about those as when I tried to run it made my game unplayable….so not so sure about them at this stage.

As the title suggests, are we feeling some love now in regards to having a look at for raids with the “fixes” and what have you?
Lots of talk on the what was given and all that but has any of it been put to a test yet? Or is it still to soon?
Is your in-box overflowing with invites and is LFG flooded with requests for Engi’s or are tings kinda still the same?
I reckon with the aura we should see a bit more interest in taking Engi’s in raids again, but time will tell. I shall just keep plugging along on my Ranger until I can see/feel/taste any real change for our forgotten class.
But do discuss, always fun to see what you all think might happen now with the changes and were they any good for us.

Oh, and on a side note…..I raelly hope dps meters don’t become a must have as I tried to run one and it made my game not playable. So yea, lets hope not or at least someone make them stable?

Forget EVERYTHING you ever did raiding in WOW, this game is nothing like it. You take in a class based on what folks call the “meta”, and that’s based off what you can bring to the raid group, not so much what can do. DPS isn’t just damage, you need to help in some way be it banners as War, GotL as Druid, etc…..
There is no aggro system like WOW, its based off the highest toughness and no damage mitigation and such with your abilities.
The list goes on but basically you are your own healer as well, with some support coming from other classes but no “dedicated” healer either. Everyone has to step up, no standing back getting carried, Bosses have to many mechanics and such for that.
So yea, try and watch some videos to get a feel for how the fights go, not so much the boss fight but how the team works. Then dip in your big toe and have fun!!!

Now, before everyone says the obvious “all of them”, I ask in realistic terms, as one who has seen firsthand the raid community demand or ask for only certain classes.
And, will this ever change? I enjoy raids/raiding, always did way back to vanilla WOW. But Blizz killed it for me with making them to easy and gear scores and all the junk that sucked the fun out. But at least you could go on any toon as long as you filled a role. Raids should be about doing the content on a class you enjoy, not stacking the odds with the most OP of all the classes Now GW2 has raids, and I was having fun in them, until class restrictions got really crazy.
I was excited to see the new wing, in hopes of my fav class, Engi, seeing some love. Not the case. Ok, so I ditched him and went back to my DH, he was fun as well. Nope, not wanted. Raids have gotten to be so toxic I have only cleared VG (many times, lol),Gors and Escort. No further progression because I don’t play the “right” class.
This concept as a whole seems silly to me. As I have asked in other posts, why can’t any class be viable to do a raid? As long as I don’t come in with pvp or wvw gear or whatever, why is it so wrong? Now, on my Engi, don’t need condi…that’s fine, I can go power if that’s the case. But the class just gets excluded altogether.
Now, I am still fairly new to GW2 so this just may be the nature of how this game is done, I don’t know. Seems odd and an easy way to exclude ALOT of players, but who knows.
So, back to the OP. I am not a rock and I am willing to try and learn another class so that I can enjoy raids again. But at this stage what class? Will it change in 2 weeks? I see groups doing the new wing, which is said to be a bit easier (1st Boss perhaps) yet they run 2 mes,1-2 war and druids and the rest is Elementalists. Again, it could very well be my server or whatever but in LFG that’s all I ever see, with the occasional Necro asked for.
So, without ripping me a new one can anyone offer up some suggestions as to a class that wont be obsolete in a week (and yea, I know that cant be guaranteed but you get my point)?
This is mostly for the new wing but constructive suggestions for all doesn’t hurt. I am just trying to figure out a game plan and not waste time on classes that hold no value.

Problem isn’t the ease of the raids, its the restriction of the classes that can go. Time after time being told no, you need to roll an Ele is getting old. Is that the only class that can do a raids? Sure feels like it.
I hear new wing is somewhat forgiving, so maybe some hope there,but no, team comp is Mesmer,war,druid and ele, that’s it. That’s all I ever see and all that is ever asked for in LFG.
Its sad when a raid is designed around just getting the kill, and not trying to complete with the class you like. Now yes, you have to have the right build,thats a no brainer. Even in WOW people got kicked if they tried to raid in pvp gear, and they did due to the stupid “gear score” junk that went on.
Every class should be 100% viable to do any raid, just don’t bring your WvW build on engi, make sure you bring what is needed….knockbacks, cc, whatever.
Why should it be that you have to play a class you really don’t enjoy in order to do a raid? And yes, tons of you will say make your own team, go with your guild, all that stuff, but it simply isn’t that way. I stopped playing Engi, class I love playing and went back to my DH so I could taste the new wing and some of the old. No chance….class not “wanted”. Its just silly, really it is.

Those that complain never seem to get it do they? EVERYONE was new at some point, period, and had to do the hard slog to get the kill.

And Engi isn’t even mentioned…ouch! But yea, I feel your pain in regards to playing the class you love yet never getting a nod for anything, i.e. me on Engi. But just stay true to what you like and like you said, you have guildies so run with them! Guardian is quite fun even without GS!

Mate, instead of re-typing that that has been typed just cruise these forums….there are heaps of post about that what you ask and more. Just look around! Folks here are mostly keen to help and its been posted many times over. I myself am guilty of asking before looking, so yea, its out there.
And Engi is a lot of fun!!!

LFR destroyed wow, we don´t need it in gw2! The challenge gives players something to shoot for. Without it the game could have all the content in terms of dungeons and raids cleared in 2 hours of play. That is not what we need.

In the past year and a half, the overall skill level of the Guild Wars raiding community has risen at a staggering pace. Naturally, content will seem easier now as players continue to refine their theorycrafting and personal skill.

Our goal is not to make content easier, but rather add an additional layer of difficulty onto the challenge motes where it makes sense.

And making Engi’s needed in raids!! Ultimate goal…..just sayin

Yup, SlippyCheeze nails it for sure! Until such a time as the mentality changes with people and having to have meta the problem will remain. Its killed raiding for me sadly, but that’s ok as there is plenty of other stuffs to do for sure. And if I pushed it my guild would take me into a raid on my Engi but I’ll wait and see if we make a huge comeback!!

AH!! Good ol Naxx!! that was a fun raid. Remember the “safety dance” boss? Wiped so many raids…lol.
What needs to change is the meta mentality, that’s it. raids are fine and challenging and some are a cake walk, and that’s a good thing. I no longer raid due to restrictions people put on what class to bring and until that changes or Engi’s get some love from ANET I won’t raid but they are in a good place and many folks still have fun them, which is what it is all about!

Ok, had to post my first little guy! have gone back playing him cuz they so dang fun. The heck with small weaps and all.

Anyway, I do envy you. For me, it’s still 37 years before I can play GW2 all day long… if the servers are run that long, that is. sigh

Lol, well, technically not of age yet, I’m 55. But here in Australia my wife is on a disability pension and they have me on a Carer’s pension, so maybe semi-retired? I can work some if I want, which at times sounds great…as for gaming, been doing it since NES came out with Dragon Warrior. RPG’s have been my passion and FF11 Online was my first venture into online gaming, followed of course by WOW.
But not to worry, you will get there soon enough! Just pray you have some money waiting for you!

Glad you like but I have actually changed things up a bit. Not really a fan of playing a female toon so I made him a him, and then took the Cid name and concept for him as well, figuring he fits the model for a Final Fantasy type returned from who knows where ready to blow stuff up in a new world kinda theme!!

Yea, but its a pretty cool rifle! I really want H.O.P.E. but the grind is just sooo much so I have started both it and Quip, see what happens.
May lose the whole "Cid’ thing as I have a theme with all my toons in that they have Joxer in the name in some form and it “feels” kinda odd to have an odd man out…lol.

Lol, yea, I saw all those. I don’t remember him like that, mostly from FF11 and 14 I think, but the looks where he is more scruffy and buffed and all!
Also, its not so much for the look as it is the character….he was one of the original RPG Engineers, old school!

I went back to my Norn as for one you don’t see that many and also everything is SO big on him! I previewed H.O.P.E. on him (not lucky enough to actually have that awesome thing yet) and it just looked sooo cool, whereas on my Asura it was like barely there. I too enjoyed the Char but yea, the all fours thing put me off even though we can use a kit like you said. Who knows, I may wander back over to the furry side again but for now my Norn fits the whole Cid from Final Fantasy (the original engi!) theme I got going .

Largest size Asura are only a human head shorter than the smallest humans. They become comically fat if you go bulky armor and big head, haha. Most you see will run smallest size I think.

yea, I made mine the biggest I could and he’s not bad, just armor bits and weaps look so tiny and such. Playstyle is fun, aesthetics-wise it kinda blows and again there are just soooo many running around, its a plague!! LOL!!

We be right. Like all the other Profs Engi will once again shine brightly! Its to unique a class for ANET to forget about.
There are good and great Engis out there, and doing really well, just not tons like Tempest and such. that’s ok, being the underdog is sometimes the best way to sneak up and grab the prize! Cyber and Jerus both made very valid points, so yea, we be right.

I keep bouncing back and forth between my Norn, Asura and human. Char for me just didn’t “feel” right, playstyle wise. Loved the lore but yea, just couldn’t feel it. Norn is cool as everything is huge on him, weapons and mortars and the like, but again the style and look is just to lumbering. Asura is funny and cute and all, but gear looks like toys, the ones you can see. The faces and all are cool, but when playing I really am not looking at his face and all. Human looks good, is middle of the road as far as style as it all looks good and isn’t clunky or huge. Problem with Human is they are kinda of vanilla….just meh if you get my drift.
So yea, I’m a mess….lol. Wife laughs at me and my toon swapping trying to get one that ‘feels’ right, she loves ALL her toons, go figure.
Also I see tons of Char and Asura Engis so trying to be outside the norm is something as well. I keep going back to the human so something tells me that he will be “the one”, haha! If only Asuras could be a tad bigger…….see, here I go again!!! I need help. LOL!!

Turrets are very useful, but they need expirience to be useful.
Engi is mainly about using Grenades and Bombs. The last utility skill can be a turret. Just pick that skill according to the situation.

Gloves and jacket are Aetherblade from the gem-store, legs and shoes are T3 cultural human skins and shoulders are the Shoulder scarf from the store. Glad you like it! :P

I just use my mouse to move around and spam 1 for grenade deadness. The snap to target is handy as well but its just explosions galore!!
Scratch that, other way around…lol! I use my keybinds to move like Bloodlet and then spam click nades 1 and whatever is on cd, then swap kits if need be. But yea, its not to hard really, and I’m old kitten that’s saying a lot!!

They fun to mess around with but actually being useful…yea, stick with what has been proven. But don’t drop the class just because of them, unless its the only thing you liked, then yea, you hosed.

Ok, so I “settled” on Norn, as he fit the whole Cid from Final Fantasy theme and all but whats also cool is I wield the turret like Arnold from Terminator! Reloads it with one hand all…very cool. Also weapons just look really good on him so yea, who knew eh?

Imma make a Norn!! Fits with my Final Fantasy one and only original gangsta Engineer Cid!!

I love the animations of the little guys and yes, I know,its been mention here on another of my posts that Azura are the master race…but…..
The armor looks gawd awful most times andwhat does look decent is so darn tiny you really cant tell, Magitech is one I have for now and the back bit is just sooo small. But that face when you shoot your pistols is just so funny! And you laugh with nades as well. But who really sees it as once again, so small. I made mine as big as I could yet he still is a tad lacking in the “cool” looking department.
Char on the other hand Magitech looks killer as does Taimi’s outfit and your weapons look like weapons, not toys. The running isn’t an issue as I just run with a kit if I want. And my Char is small so not a huge beast and I like the lore aspect with the Char. I dunno…thus my dilemma!
So, for fun, (its the holidays!) I am just curious as to how many Char vs Asura we have out there in Engi world? I tried Sylvari but it just didn’t click with me and yea, not looking for what “whats best”, as anything goes but more along the lines of what made you pick the race you did?

Well, experimenting story and, surpsrise, surprise, scrapper trait is more useful for the rifle than firearms!

These kind of replies in every profession forum is kinda sad. Its like Ele is the only kitten class in the game. That’s sad ANET, really really sad. Change the name of the game to Elemental Wars perhaps? :P

Did ANET screw up cuz Blunderbuss seems to be hitting a lot harder, in PVE, so just curious if they made a goof.?Be great if they did!! maybe its just wishful thinking on my part.

Amen! yes, please don’t waste efforts on a skin that’s not used all that much. Drop some love onto the class itself, and a tad more than 2 things, one for PVP. Although yea for the PVP folks, they got something……
