True, it overall would not fix the fact that we are vastly under-powered as a profession. I say one step in any direction is more right than taking no steps at all, correct? Contrary to popular belief, we are NOT likely to see ranger “fixed” in just one patch.

And if that’s the way you feel, I’m saddened for your ranger. I can take camps solo in WvW with mine if not interrupted. My two companions and I have been known to take towers. In packs though, rangers are downright scary. Also thieves are little trouble regardless of whether or not I’m alone. Your average thief has anywhere between 12-15k health. After traps and AoE, all of which a d/d thief absolutely must pass in order to strike me, I’ve usually easily dropped their health by 1/2 to 2/3. A good thief at that point, their burst likely exhausted, turns away. A fleeing thief is just as much a victory as a dead one… Not like you’re going to catch them in any case anyhow, so chasing one is rather redundant.

Yes, one would have to either stow their pet beforehand, or the skill would have to account for the pet as well in some manner. I tend to have mine stowed when going from one place to another anyway. As they have a way of getting right in the camera at times.

It actually makes sense to me that they’d make reference to a song sung by Kermit the Frog. In the original Guild Wars, frogs seemed almost a small obsession of the Mods. Many of the Mods had small, hopping, talking frog avatars in which they used when appearing “in world” and interacting with the player masses.

I see that, it’s still on the wiki. I did however know about the Ash Legion Spy Kits, as I do have a few of those. No idea why they did away with this… We do still have a passive skill in our traits that I believe also falls somewhere in this catagory, but it’s activated only during certain conditions, like when being knocked back. Essentially making it all but utterly useless.

What also troubles me is that Anet is limiting their definition of stealth strictly to invisibility. When it doesn’t necessarily need to be so. Anything that fools the eyes and mind into believing a person or object is something it is not is classified as stealth. So why not allow us to become a bush, stump, small tree? I’m enamored with the concept of just how fun this could potentially be, while at the same time adding just a smidgen of possible extra survivability our profession so direly needs. Especially in places like WvW.

Looks pretty good, but I’d not use this in places like WvW. Complete glass cannon with no Toughness.

I’m using armor that focuses on Precision, while utilizing Superior Runes of Divinity, Ruby gemstones, etc on my attire. My critical chance is currently 55%, while crit damage is +46%. I’d have to say it is a noticable difference. As far as rangers go I’m not horrible in places like WvW, so I’m relatively happy.

I actually found this humorous myself. The fact that “The Lover”, prerequisite for “The Dreamer” is in my opinion a far superior bow stat-wise.

Never understood the lack of any real stealth on a ranger. As typically in reality a seen Army Ranger is often soon a dead Army Ranger. Not asking to be as exclusive as Thieves or anything, but a limited stealth would make sense. Maybe a better camoflage ability that only functions if the player remains still. So I came up with the idea for the Ghillie Suit utility skill! Hear that Anet? I want to become a bush! Possible example…

Ghillie Suit:
Description: Ranger assumes the form of random local foliage while immobile.
Duration: 15-20 seconds (based upon Wilderness Survival traitline?).
Cooldown: 30-90 seconds (again, possibly based upon Wilderness Survival traitline?).
Dis-spell: Upon moving, taking damage, or end skill duration.
Misc: Cannot be activated when already in combat.

The possible applications, and sheer fun and hilarity potential, of this skill I think are fantastic. Especially in places such as WvW.

Ranger is a good class! Imagine 20 rangers with their stupid looking pet murellows charging a zerg with Entangle at the ready. Yeah, I just squeeled a little too.

Admittedly we are better in packs, yes. We’ve got pretty good mobility, but when push comes to shove, we are pretty squish’ums. Be nice if we had a little more AoE too… don’t get me wrong, Barrage is REALLY nice though. Especially with towers, and more importantly, the siege atop their walls.

Check your graphic options. Team colors for: Everyone, Enemies, No One (or something to that effect… Going by memory). Choose the no one option to see everyone as they made their character. I think its more resource intensive though, and I generally play with enemies in team colors so that I know who to target first in 3 way battles, but sometimes its fun to see what your enemies really look like.

Huh… Had no idea. I thought all this time it was something they did as a privacy issue. Kind of like hiding our character names and not allowing ingame PM’s.

Lastly, anyone know when you probably WvW too much?… Methinks it’s right about the time you come back from a bodily needs break after afk’ing somewhere in Queensdale or the like. Then upon returning, see some guy run by in the distance and immediately give chase because he was just far away enough his name didn’t pop up right away…

The answer the devs are proposing is making pet more balanced, less buggy, more responsive and easier to micro. I can accept that answer.

Sadly I think you will be waiting a very long time indeed if you want them to reverse their ideas of how the Ranger core mechanic should work. They want it to work for us and they want us to use it. If you don’t like the pet then Ranger really isn’t the class for you I’m afraid.

Good thing there are plenty of other great classes to choose from.

Or for anyone else who likes doing dungeons or high level fractals outside their guilds apparently. Where pets are not welcomed. We will continue to be shunned as outcasts.

I was on CD for weeks pounding Ebay into the dirt. Few including EBay like to fight when they are getting run over and out manned. I left T4 for more skirmish fighting in T6 and last week was a blast with the close scores. Tonight less so.

I am not trying to assign blame. I just prefer last weeks weekend fighting to this weekends.

Maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment. I made my debut in WvW during our bout with Kaineng months back (I’m sure DR remembers. They were there with us). What I saw when they owned the entirety of the map 24/7 was an amazing potential for exp and karma gain, and a suitably endless one since they’d be recapping almost as fast as we could take anything back. I for one will not be relegated to dolyak herding if I can help it, lol. The field is generally what you make of it.

I often question any server that wants to go to T3+…. Seems like a lot of 24/7zerging/ no real good fights to be had. It turns into a giant numbers game, and while it may somewhat be that in t4/5 you get a healthier mix of various fights IE some solo roamers, small roaming groups as well as decent sized zergs. Im fairly content with where we are atm.

As am I. Not hating on Yaks, I think they were a lot nicer to us than they could’ve been lol.

I for one don’t hold anything against you guys personally. I’d like to see you guys go on and do better than we did up there. I know at least you guys have more than what it takes to take on Crystal Desert. We had them well in hand ourselves until they too pulled an all night capping rampage. Again, I’m not necessarily blaming you guys for exploiting a now blatant weakness of ours, it is what it is. Consolidation of our forces is merely something we as a server must work on apparently. I’m already night/morning crew as is, but once is potentially lucky, twice is a noticeable pattern. I’m saying they did it first, and the difference between you and them is, it’s the only reason they beat us. Folks in my server may dislike what I’m about to say, but numbers show that even without the 6k lead you guys took with that first night-cap, you’re still quite soundly ahead of us.

All that said, I’m still skeptical you guys won’t be back here in a few weeks though. I still don’t see you beating the likes of Yaks Bend or Maguuma, as I’ve stated before. By all means prove me wrong if you can. Everyone talks kitten on some of your Commanders, like Kalkz for instance. I personally like what I’ve seen from them on the field (still not so sure about the golem thing though, with the aggro’ed worker and all. Seems far-fetched that some guy with a work hammer is going to hold up a keep capping lol). My fears however are still that you guys are just like us in the fact that you’re stuck somewhere between T4 and T5.

Borlis approves of the training of new commanders. If somebody is willing to spend (waste) 100 gold on the blue hat, then clearly they must think they are competent. If they are not competent it does not take us long to figure out and they never have people following them again.

Fun story, its not uncommon to see people following well known commanders, even when they don’t have the hat on.

This is true for most servers I think… I’ve considered the “blue hat” myself. The biggest wet blanket to that notion however is that I also see a great deal of, “where are all our Commanders?! I just want to say thank you to DR and especially EB for giving me the best night of fighting in my WvW career to date. Thank you all so very much.

From the leading I did in EB where I had to run back and forth between DR and EB, sigh I got tired lol, good fighting and a great workout.

Then to being back in BP BL where EB was pushing hard, it was a back and forth with many deaths on my part but it was so fun and so equal fighting, this is why I log in and play WvW everyday because of the amazing and battles of those scale.

So another thank you is needed to all 3 servers DR, EB, and BP, I can speak for most people that this is a nice addition from fighting AR and NSP for 2 months. It has been relaxing, frustrating, and fun all at the same time.

Also to all the EB players that were outside of BP Hills, probably one of the most equal and fun battles I have ever taking part in.

I think you guys take Kalkz too seriously, lol. He’s been nothing short of a source of immense fun for me. As for Fathom above. Glad there’s at least one amongst your ranks that understands what this whole thing is all about, lol.

I’m saddened I must leave to go do trivial PvE type things for a bit now. My morning capped off by that immense battle for our Garrison. So cheers to that at least.

Also, still surprised there was no mention of the only rangers group running around killing people yesterday with nothing both brown bears and shortbows. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in WvW.

I rolled with Skynet and we had a mostly ranger group this morning. For a long while we had another brown bear wielder in the party. I’ve always got Tooki with me, so… No sure if it was us you spotted. We also had a golem in tow for a good portion of the morning. That one golem probably sacked at least seven enemy strongholds before it finally fell, including our retaking of the DR’s main keep in Eternal from BP after they wrested it from our hands only an hour or so earlier. Not even mentioning the 15 man zerg it helped us wipe, despite the fact they should have probably steamrolled the six-seven of us, even with golem assistance… One of those, “why’re we still alive?” moments.

Felt kinda bad for DR. Both servers were picking EB apart at the time.

No, not really bragging. I was just curious. This usually does not happen unless the other side is seriously outmanned. We pretty much just walked into lowlands keep, there were only about 5 defenders.

Nope. 80% of my ingame activity is WvW. I come out only to use the trade post to make me gold, or ever so rarily assist a guildee in a dungeon when they need help. The rest of my time is dedicated largely to you people. Even my “newer” characters are raised mostly in WvW. Once they hit lvl 30 and get their first elite skill, they are in the service of the server.

Wizard was also right. I do work, and occasionally even sleep. Sometimes anyway, and not by choice usually.

Edit: I also note, I keep seeing a certain 25 silver pieces I set aside sitting in my bank. I keep wondering why it’s still there. Some of you have literally stood right atop me, lol. Guess you guys dislike more or less free money? Simple. Kill me, snap a screenie, post it here. First come, first served.

Would you want me stranded all alone on our Borderlands, echoing “KAAAAAALKZ!!!” through our Citadel and into the heavens in so much Shatner-esque fashion? No… I cannot speak for my fellows, but thus far I’ve had tremendous fun this match-up. In short, I’ve concluded that I am precisely where I wish to be, right here and now. Fun fights, difficult fights, and yet not demoralizingly impossible fights. We do not have the numbers to beat the likes of Yaks or Mag, and perhaps not you either. So by all means, summon your forces when the need is high. Tighten your defenses. Tweak your methods. You’ll need all this in the coming days where you’re likely going. We’ve been there, done that, it looked better on the travel brochure.

Until then, I’m going to play with you, and shall continue playing with you. One thief roamer or dolyak at a time if necessary. So, if I may be allowed to regress to a former fave taunt of yesteryear in my childhood… Nyah nyah! >=D

I got kinda sick of looking up to find scores 60k+ our own where we just came from. I’m having a blast here with how close this is. Borliss has really stood up and went all in. So I say lets either supplant them and go back to where we were, or work Borliss up into such a froth that when we send them on their way up they give ’em kitten themselves! >=P
