Just ran into those guys on my Guardian. I got the thief at first, then a ranger showed up, then a mesmer, then in comes a warrior. Partied up with a LMTL ranger and they smashed us, then we came back and got them twice, then they got us again. 2 more FTF guys came on our side and we fought them at the supply camp too. Really fun fights because they are all super glassy but they just kept coming back for more. Gotta give em that.

I noticed the glassiness too. None of them seemed all that much when separated from the others though. Maybe they have group support builds. No tellin’.

actually feel sorry for all those trebbers who sit on trebs for hours, especially those ebay trebbers in eternal, once upon a time there was a kalkz in eternal around 1pm server time i saw an FTF guy sitting on a treb trebbing our fortified DG tower, i went off for 4 hours, came back to see a BP zerg Running supply to repair DG, i asked whats going on and a guy said “they have been trebbing DG for a good couple hours and I’ve been fixing the wall alone most of the time by running supply from camp”
I went to counter treb the treb and i SAW THE SAME FTF GUY. HE HAS BEEN TREBBING DG FOR 4 kittenING HOURS

I really didnt know how to react. what is he going to do if we took out his lovely treb, is he going to build a new one and keep trebbin for another 4 hours ? To make this guy rest in peace i gave up on the tower, i respected his efforts, however. I took the tower back and full upgraded it in 1 hour. Lol

EBay didn’t give up during the week against Kaineng btw. If you check through our forum history (I know a lot of you do… there really isn’t anything wrong with doing so), you’ll see that all our threads during that time were on “training sessions”. Basically, all the WvW guilds decided to focus on open field combat and tactics instead of playing the defensive inside of towers and keeps accomplishing nothing outside of a slightly adjusted PPT tick.

Kind of like what Jinx said, that week was almost universally taken as a time to work on fighting in the field while Kaineng breezed its way through the tier. Some groups enjoyed that play style so much that they stuck with it…

Give up? I ARRIVED during Kaineng… Fell so in love with the chaos I haven’t left since.

I just want to give props to Anvil Rock and Borlis Pass for working together. You guys are doing a pretty good job and you even seem to be starting to use better tactics and playing better.

Keep improving. Ehmry Bay has gotten a little full of itself atm and it would actually do our server good to be taken down a peg. Please keep up the pressure all week, even if you lose.

I’d settle if everyone would stop backing up and push lol. I keep finding myself alone over and over cause I’m the only one doing so. We’re literally pushed right back to our spawn point, and nobody wants to push. Despite that we have nothing to lose but some measly coins… They let one of you guys finish me on the very steps of Lowlands. I was flabbergasted.

At any rate, a shame I must now leave for sleep, at such an exciting time… =/

Not to mention thief on thief fights are easily some of the most fun battles you’ll ever find in WvW. This particular thief in the vid was even pretty tanky at that. As far as thieves go anyway.

My main is a ranger actually (as per my sig), and I seldom lose to any other class short of d/d godmode eles and the occasional really well specced warrior (something I’m working on by dueling as many of them as possible, btw). Thieves especially. And what do I care if a thief runs away? A fleeing thief has accomplished nothing and is just as much if not more defeated than a dead thief. Is the issue over, “waaah, I didn’t get a badge!” ? Cause that’s just plain petty. I’ve bought two Gifts of Battle with my ranger’s badge income alone, and unlike many of you JP haunters, each of those 1000 badges was a life. So yeah, I have little need to whine over one or two thieves a day that slip away, lacking self respect because they just lost to a ranger.

Secondly, do you even thief, brah? Do you know how difficult it is to even get off a successful backstab? It takes considerable practice, and it’s much more that just a press of a single button. Unlike a Warrior who can just snare and 100-blade you. Combos to acheive BS vary, depending on the player, but it’s never just a single attack. Cloak and Dagger (a direct touch skill I might add) must be used in order for the Backstab skill to even activate. Seriously, watch the first video again, C+D is the #5 slot and when used the #1 base attack slot swaps over to BS. So not only are you looking at what at very least is a double attack to pull this off, but both attacks take roughly one second to complete. That’s two attacks and two seconds that you are standing there like an oaf, basically waiting to get shanked.

… If you’re still standing still and allowing this to happen at this point, you deserved it.

Also, there is no more perma-stealth. It’s gone. It died with the culling fix. They’ve also added Revealed now, which used to be 4 seconds, but they nerfed it back to 3 because results were utterly devastating to the class in general. The average thief stealth skill being 3 seconds in duration. That’s right, Shadow Refuge aside, all thief stealth skills are only 3 seconds long. And the one that has the shortest cooldown duration is, guess what, Cloak and Dagger. The one I mentioned earlier where we actually have to touch you.

10-12 people a zerg does not make.

Secondly, why would this earn a nerf? This is exactly what the thief was designed for, 1v1’s. Aside from being a terrible annoyance to this so called zerg, what benefit was this thief to the rest of his server at this time? None whatsoever, that’s what. No points were earned, no caps taken or stopped from being taken. And that moment when his burst was exhausted, stealth skills were on cooldown, and he was crying for stealth should have been when that “zerg” turned and nailed him with snares, AoE, and a solid pummeling. It would have been a done deal. But they were equally as bad as their Commander, because whether 1, 2, or 10+, you DO NOT run from a thief. First of all, you can’t outrun them, and many thief skills do almost double damage from behind.

So he got one really poor Commander to soil themselves a little bit. Still, nothing overall gained for the good of the server.

Actually, I hardly saw anyone at all. I perched myself up on the boardwalk in front of the bank so I could overlook the main plaza and see if I saw any guild tags I recognized. I must have seen maybe four people in the whole 10-15 mins I was there.

It was about 10 AM or so too though. So I imagine your folks were either all in WvW, or perhaps having a nice sleep in. Preferably the latter. Sometimes those darned beds just ensnare you with cozy warmth, lol. =D

Now i know that the usual answer from thief players is they had to see/expect/mind read/predict and stuff.

That is one of the issues….

and then not cry when any Warrior insta-kills you with a hold followed by 100-blades that takes like 14k health (which guess what, is usually well more than your entire 10k-14k average thief health depending on just how glass you are).

You can see the warrior coming and you can at least play.

Something you cnnot do against a profession that has:
BURST
STEALTH
SPEED

That is really too much.

P.S. i find somehow fun how now that all thef posts asking for nerfs destroyed any counterbuild you see so many thief saying “hey no more nerfs!!!!”

In saying that, I’m not necessarily meaning to insult you, Borliss. It’s just the realization now hits me hard that it eventually must be us that goes back there, one way or another. The bigger question in my mind is, are we ready when it does happen? I think Kalkz did us no small favor in showing us that we needed to reorganize and revamp the way we did things, and we have done so accordingly. The changes I’ve seen in us are not by any means small ones. So why then does, “are we ready?” still echo in my mind?

Hello, I have left GW2 for Hello Kitty Online because of the nightmares I’ve had about the state of WVW. In my nightmare, ANET buffed range of arrow carts again to balance against unnecessary warrior buffs that weren’t needed except for spvp.

Consequently, because of old habits, my new guild in HKO are getting called bots because we ballup tight while we speed clear Tuna Island with my 50 man skill group.

The only reason Ehmry didn’t do well in tier 4 before was because of Yaks/Maguuma. Now that both of them are in tier 3, I think Ehmry can easily win tier 4.

I tend to blame CD’s massive see presence. Which is not something we necessarily could have countered at that time. Humorous in that I’m now far more confident in our abilities, and yet at the same time the rumor mill has it that much of that sea presence has dissipated. A good chance we shall yet see.

Too true. Today, I watched a Mesmer run up to a tower, cast portal and he popped a group right onto the tower wall. It wasn’t GH but it was another very well known Ebay guild. Was very discouraging to see.

Screen shots, reports sent, etc. etc.

Last checked, portaling itself is not an offense. If a mes hides somewhere and you don’t look for them, it’s perfectly legit. Done it a few times myself on my mes. I find many don’t bother to sweep the single towers. You should. There are nooks and crannies there in some of them too.

Now, if you see anyone going straight up, or through, tower walls or gates. Yes, that be very bad.

I find this thread amusing, last time I checked WvWvW was a free for all with no balance or honor attached to it. We borlis took AR when they didn’t had the numbers to defend, what about it? They sieged some placed, fought as best as they could got overwhelm and loose, then came to Q_Q in the forums. AR got many really skilled players, thats their strength but individual strength adds little against the numbers you see in WvW. Take Ebay for an example, out of each 10 players you see in their mob 9 are way under n00b level, I mean kitten they get wiped by mobs 1/4 their size. But when that mindless zerg meets with Ebay good command they can beat servers with more skilled players.

I got nothing against either of the rival servers, I’m technically a PUG too since I don’t belong to any mayor guild or WvW guild in Borlis, nor do I care about any of the commanders, as other than 2 or 3 of them they are a bunch of n00b and trolls, some who have annoyed the hell out of me in personal levels. But as I mentioned each server got it’s strengths and their weakness. Honor, is something that doesn’t exist in war, much less does it exist in video games lol!

Actually, honor does exist in war. It’s called the Geneva Convention, wiki and read up on it. And when my spouse and I were still in it was also still looked down upon to kill unarmed civilians or even field medics and chaplains… Dunno what happened in the younger generation. Seeing much to the contrary nowadays. Either way, off topic but there you go.

Back on track a little, that honor you speak down upon got me and one of your fellows the skill point and Vista in the ogre camp of EBG around noon earlier today. She and I worked together to get them. I used Shadow Refuge to get the skill point for myself, then aggro’ed and pulled the champ harpy away so she could get it as well. Being enemies does not necessarily mean you have to hate each other.

As for your statements of our players level of skill. How very biased and presumptuous of you. Every server has good and bad people, pugs, regulars, and leet veterans. Skill level depends on the individual player, and can only really be judged as such on the basis of that individual player. Trying to sum up an entire server merely on the acts or skills of a handful is folly. I can only use myself as example. I’m usually good in most 1v1’s and sometimes even 1v2’s, but I have seen players on our server than can drop 3-4 players in seconds. Does that look bad on me? Not necessarily. I know where I am, and am able to acknowledge my abilities and limitations. It does however mean there is always room for improvement.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, some of our larger guilds on AR are on a vacation from the home BL and are romping about in Eternal. What EBay does has very little to do with that, they have their own motivations and are their own server. They decide to attack your BL, then that’s what they decide, there really isn’t some conspiracy.

p.s. Its WvWvW, it’s always 2v1, imagine if there was another W, there would be a potential for 3 v 1!

I don’t know what anyone is complaining about. I tend to see you guys more than I do Borliss here lately. According them, I guess it’s possibly true they could be doing their utmost to deal with your morning zerg. Which I will say is quite impressive in size.

I hate seeing you guys get hit this hard, especially considering that I love fighting you guys more than anybody else (plus well, I was hoping for everybody’s BL to remain their own color).

Funny we don’t hear many complaints out of them either. They’re hardy steadfast folk as far as I’ve seen. Tenacious too.

So it is new? I seem to recall half the time I see trebbers hopping off their positions and scrambling as if to say, “hey guys, wait up!” Definitely a good add-on. They’re the ones who spent the 30 minutes plus taking down the walls. I can’t say I have a great deal of experience with trebs. I mostly free-roam, so when I did siege I was an arrow cart jockey before it was cool.

That is what happens when you stick with the same folks for weeks on end. Meanwhile my arrow cart in ARBL Garrison needs more tears to feed it. (nearly a full worldxp level purely by def got to love it)

I do love it actually. I’m sorry, but if you’re dumb enough to stand in three layers of overlayed AC fire I say let natural selection take its course. Especially now that those arrows are digging lil deeper than they used to. Also, the increased cart usage appears to mean that I get Daily Dodger a lot faster than I used to, lol.

Semi-related sidenote: Did we used to get credit for trebbing before? I don’t know if we did, but yesterday during our massive back and forth tug-of-war for Anz I got full credit for the capping despite never leaving the treb I took the walls down with. That new as well?

And here I was just going to comment how almost spine tingling it is that our three servers are almost becoming a community of sorts. I’m noticing it not only in the forums, but on the field as well. We be laxing out there by the end of the week. Lots of chilling and even folks teaming each other just to chat.

Lol, Vet killer, Ambient killer, Champion Killer, Daily Dodger, Daily Conditions… All of about 5-10 mins in WvW. XD

Only a WvW player gets pulled over by a cop, shakes his head and says, “I should’ve waypointed out.”

Only a WvW player puts that box of mac and cheese back on the shelf at the store because it lacks a sufficient precision boost.

Only a WvW player hears someone knock on their front door and laments, “kitten… now it’s contested.”

To that group of 8-12 hard headed, persistent, audacious Anvil Rockers who keep trying to wrest Durios from us…
