I’m having the hardest time deciding between an elementalist and an engineer….and please dont tell me to level both like with are all unemployed and living with our parents.
A few things about me….I love 1v1 pvp and could really care less about the group.
Ive heard elementalist have to stance dance. Is that annoying? I guess its better than useless level 80 turrets.

I’m used to paying sub fees so I wasn’t sure how the quality of a “no subscription fee” game would turn out. Since I bought the game on the day it released I have been playing it none stop. And even though there is another MMO (whose name we shall not mention)….that suckered me into buying a years subscription in return for a crappier free game they released….then forcing me to buy the XPAC to enjoy the game because I’m already locked in for a year (and none of my friends saw that marketing scheme coming….those crafty devils)…which I will be playing on the 25th…I’m positive that I and my friends will be back. If you play this game for a few weeks and then go back and play “that” game….it will be like night and day for you…like it was for me.
Enough about subscription fee games…onto the gems….I was surprised at how simple the process was. I didn’t even have to log into my account…you can simply type in your payment information while playing the game…and the gems instantly appear in your account. Then you just click an item and instantly get it. The first thing I thought after making the purchase is “they are going to make so much money with this once they start adding in name changes/appearance changes/race changes….this is just the tip of the ice berg.” And I have no problem supporting a game that delivers a very high quality product with zero subscription fee….I think this will slowly bring down the dinosaur….and ANET will reap the rewards a few months from now.
Most of the complaints I hear about this game involved the end game content….but seriously look at other MMO’s on their launch date….the content was a lot less then what you eventually got simply because the companies want to see how popular the game becomes. Why would you spend a significant amount of time working on a TON of end game content for a small group of hard core players…when you should spend that time polishing what you already have. No matter how much preperation ANET or any other company does they have no idea how well a game is going to do until it has been in the market for a while….I don’t blame them for not spending a significant amount of time on end game content. Release more content in the expansions so you get more money and have a stable player base that you were able to sustain from producing a more polished game….that’s just common sense.

Whenever I ask in map chat if I should go engineer or ranger for pvp….it is always unanimously ranger. Their explanation is always “go ranger…..because rangers pets are mobile and engineers turrets are not….and pets scale with level unlike turrets that do not scale after a certain level.”
Anyway…instead of asking again in map chat I decided to come straight to the source and see what you guys thought about the engineer in comparison to the ranger in PvP. Which do you think is better and more for for 1v1 PvP?

to sum it up, AA transfered there and RUIN followed them. So unlike a server like HoD, they haven’t been there winning from day1. They started on Northern Shiverpeaks first. So they had to play catch up. They also probably don’t have as big of an issue in getting all their members into WvW which makes them stronger. Titan does excellent during offpeak hours, but during peak hours, there are so many pugs flooding the queue, they can’t really get much in and be able to do much. So the server suffers during primetime hours. the organization and force just isn’t really there during that time. I don’t think ET has to deal with that problem much. However queues have been getting better recently. they arent 5+ hours like before, now some borderlands are instant most of the day and eb is like an hour or so.
The fact that ET is a medium pop server is a double edged sword. You’re right in that the WvW guilds have an easier time getting their members in, however that’s an advantage only during NA peak hours. When the guilds go to sleep, ET doesn’t have the “strong PUG population” that HoD has to cover the off hours.
What’s the point of an alliance if they can’t get better coverage?
Legend has it that when RUIN is asleep…..and the gold farmers have no one to sell to…they guard the towers

Right now I’m leveling up on Blackgate simply because events are easier to complete on a server with a larger population….
Also the mass majority of my friends are as gitty as a school girl on on prom night about the….dare I say it….Mists of Pandaria expansion. Most of my friends have been gladiators in world of warcraft since your mom and dad were in high school kissing behind the bleachers at the high school football game.
However those friends of mine said that is Mists of Pandaria is anything like Cataclysm they will retire their World of Warcraft jerseys and come over to the dark side….which is a game that isn’t almost a decade old.
I predict that they will get bored within a few months and then come over to Guild Wars 2…..once that happens and I reach 80 we will all be going to ET in a massive immigration that you haven’t seen since biblical times.
My friends and I are not PvP players….we are ruthless blood hungry savages that have played arena and battle grounds till our eyes hurt so bad that we could barely look up at the screen…..we have skipped meal after meal that our mothers hand crafted for us every night……we are all still virgins…..we don’t buy cars, we buy bus passes…..our idea of detailing a car is putting a HORDE decal on it……we are all unemployed….we dress up to look like our characters before we log in to play………………..anyway….you get the idea…..

Blackgate is ranked 9th….but its not just that we are ranked 9th…its also all the lag that comes from world events/etc with a highly populated server. If I can transfer to a server thats ranked 4th….and rarely ever have lag or gathering issues due to the population size….why wouldn’t you?

So basically you’re saying.. “I’m subliminally trying to recruit for ET, this paragraph should be a smart enough disguise” but in all RUIN is giving ET a bad rep, it’s the last place you’d want to transfer to.
I HIGHLY doubt any of the guilds on ET want people transferring to that server. The only reason I even have the information I have is because I was thinking about transferring off Blackgate and I was trying to get information on other servers I was interested in. I can assure you I’m not from ET in fact my Charrs name on Blackgate is Kaide….however I might be transferring to ET now…since I’ve done enough research to realize what most people havent realized yet…that its an amazing server with a medium population so that you rarely lag…and always win win win.

Before you read on I want you to know that I am from the server Blackgate and I have no affiliations with any of the servers I’m about to talk about.
When most people view rankings…the average person scrolls through the names of the servers and looks for who is number 1 and where is his/her server ranked. Rarely do they examine the chart beyond that….
Henge of Denravi is currently the #1 ranked server in the world. I’ve fought them on Blackgate in well organized groups and I rarely remember a time when we were able to hold a base against them….it was a slaughter….and most servers we dominate. We were all grateful when Henge of Denravie transferred to a new group. But my post isn’t about Henge of Denravi’s success….it’s about one of the servers that competes on the same level as them…but with A LOT less people.
How many people does Eredon Terrace have? Out of all the servers listed in North America they are all highly populated servers with the exception of 3 which never go above a medium population….those 3 servers are Kaineng, Devona’s Rest, and…..Eredon Terrace. Devona’s Rest is ranked second to last in the world….and Kaineng is ranked dead last in the world…..yet a server with the same size population who rarely gets mentioned on any forum post is ranked 4th in the NA and 5th in the world. What this means is that server has a high concentration of very highly skilled and organized guilds.
If guilds are thinking about transferring to a different server….Eredon Terrace should be their #1 destination….because with a few more people Eredon Terrace will be the #1 server in the world.
I am aware of a few character creation decisions that effect you at 80….for instance if you are a norn and choose bear….your elite skill will be to morph into a bear at 80. But do all races character creation decisions effect them? For instance if you are a Charr and go Iron legion….will you have skills at 80 that will be different from the blood and ash legion? And if so where do you find those skills?

If players had a server census that told us not only what the population size was per server, but also the classes, races, crafting profession percentages, guild types, and even sexes…it would make it a lot easier for players to move from a highly populated server to a lower populated server. Right now the only information I have is that all but 3 American servers have a “High” population. I know that the dev team would like for us to spread out evenly over the servers to lower the que times and make the experience more enjoyable for WvW amongst other things…and I think that releasing an updated server census even once a month would help motivate the players to move to other servers. Not every player wants to be on a full server with tons of people crafting and long que times….they simply don’t have the information to make an educated move to another server…and are probably on the server they are on in the first place because all their friends and friends of friends went there.
Right now I’m trying to decide between Blackgate, Dragonbrand, and Darkhaven…but I simply don’t have any information on any of these servers.

In the norn starting area there was a discussion on the last boss fight in the game….
My fellow norns had this to say….
The dragon that killed thousands of norns and drove thousands more out of their homeland and ripped apart the continent…..can be killed by 5 players….4 with a good group.
During the fight the dragon goes AFK….to go make breakfast….and while he’s AFK we attack! They said its the equivalent of a kitten rolling over to let you rub his belly while he falls asleep.
They also said that if you do have a party of 5….all 5 players can go AFK as long as they are auto attacking the dragon….you will still win.
Once the dragon dies….he drops gear found in the starting areas of the game.

After reading several of the forum posts about the end game in Guild Wars 2 I decided to come up with a solution….
I call my solution the Paragon System.
“What is the Guild Wars 2 Paragon System?” You might ask. And I have the answer for you….it’s a system that will satisfy all of your end game needs. What you do is start at Paragon Level 1 once you reach level 80….and then you grind…cough…i mean adventure your way back through the previous places you had gone from start to finish…and then you will reach paragon level 2! After 2 is 3! And With each new Paragon level completed you gain +1 to each stat….which will help you fight off the monsters that scale with each new Paragon Level you complete. Guild Wars 2 can have 300 Paragon Levels all as exciting as the first time you ran it! End Game? The game is your end game!!!!

Show a cinematic of each of the World of Warcraft raid instances with a closed door to them and a sign on each that read “NO trespassing!!!!”…..and then have the Guild Wars 2 Logo pop up with a message “Our time is now….”

You didn’t understand the trailer, or who it was marketed to. The “Our Time is Now” wasn’t about the game story or characters in the game – it’s directed at a section of the market that has been disenfranchised by the direction of MMOGs the past decade – which is why the oppressed and the underclass and the rebels (in the trailer) are invited to move past the paralysis of even trying a new MMO because of the fear that it is just a repackaged version of the status quo. They – the casuals, the RPers, the soloers, etc. – can now enter the game – walk across the coals that have burned them for so long – come together on their terms, playing their individual way, and enjoy the same kind of epic encounters that used to be reserved only for the elite – represented by the sequence at the end of the trailer.
It’s perfect marketing – it shows me that Anet really does understand who their target market is, and gives me hope that they can withstand the vocal minority that would change the game back into the status quo.
Actually you are wrong. I understood perfectly who they were aiming at. The sad part is they missed their mark and did NOTHING to help the game. Why in the hell would you promote a trailer that has nothing about the game in it? Is their target market people walking on lava rocks or spray painting buildings? I don’t know anyone that walks on lava rocks. And if you think MMO players are their target market….I’ve shown the video to several of my friends who play a variety of MMO’s and not a single one of them understood the video…in fact the only thing they all seemed to say is at the end “thats a cool dragon”….thats about it. I do a lot of marketing at my job…including using high quality production software…and I don’t know who came up with the idea for the “Our Time is Now Trailer” but seriously fire the guy.
I’ve had several of my friends watch the “Our Time is Now Trailer” and none of them know why it was even made. There isn’t even any direction to it. At one point in the video you had some guy walking across lava rocks…what the hell?
Normally I wouldn’t even waste time on another companies marketing but you guys need some serious help.
If you want to stick with the “Our Time is Now” theme and promote the game then do so in a way that people can relate to, understand, sparks an emotional response…and it grabs their attention.

“Our Time is Now” should be through the eyes of the races in which the players can play. Use each races history in the trailer and “our time is now” could mean what you….as a player….contribute to their race from this point on. For instance you could show a trailer from the perspective of the Charr….and show 1,000’s of angry bloodthirsty charrs destroying a Castle’s Walls and flooding into it and slaughtering everything in their path…then show the charr proudly rebuilding their main city on top of it…and then show a dragon or some army they’re rushing to confront and right before they attack have the screen either black out or go white…then have a single charr say at the end of the trailer “our time is now…”. This will not only strike emotion but get viewers wondering what are the charr….whyd they build their city on top of this other city. That’s the kind of race I want to play…etc. You could make a trailer for each race in the game showing their history and what conflicts they have now. Your trailer did none of this…

Every single time I do a map cinematic and come out of it my sound is screwed up. Most of the time it has to do with sound effects….its never the music. But either i will be unable to hear my weapon swinging or hitting anything…..or i will only hear the voices my character makes while swinging the weapon but not hear the weapon….or ill hear nothing at all. Until I log out then log back in. It is very annoying.

Whenever I ask in chat channels which class is better for PvP….between a Elementalist and an Engineer….I’ve yet to hear anyone say engineer. Some times people take this even further and say that not only is an elementalist superior to an engineer in all 1v1 battles but that an elementalist is way better for AoE fights as well. Is this true? Are Elementalists superior to engineers in every PvP aspect?

That said…I am still unsure if this is a violation or not….all of my characters have names spaced out like “G A V E N”. Is that a naming violation? I’d rather know now and make the changes…before I get too far into the game.

I haven’t been reported for this…and I just wanted to get an answer before I get too far into the game. All of my characters names are spelled with spaces between the letters….like “Z A Y N E” etc (no that’s not my real characters name lol)….you get the point. I’ve read over what constitutes a naming violation and I am still not sure if putting spaces between the letters is a violation or not. If it is…I’m still at a point in the game that I can make the change…better sooner than later…if it is a violation. The last thing I want is 5 characters with spaces between the letters and I get a warning shot on one of the 5…
