I told you what guilds transferred….you even used them in your quote AND bolded them in your response. I’m not going to repeat the guild names over and over and over….that just doesn’t make sense. I never once said these were WvW guilds. I find it comical that people are looking up guilds that transferred off the server. Anyway…. I said I have a bunch of friends that WvW and because of the issues we’ve had with the political structure of WvW we were unhappy. I never said any guilds names because I didn’t want this post to come off like I was slandering any guilds. I just want people to be informed of the situation before they transfer to BG or at least be aware if they are on BG this is how it works…you play by their rules…or you dont play at all. If you are a sheep then fantastic…none of this will effect you. But if you are a successful leader like I am and are really good at organizing people and every night notice that people stop following you because a certain guild logs on and they want you to hand over the reins to their GM because E-Reps are on the line…then BG is not the server for you. Some people thrive in that type of environment….other people like me simply dont.

Where were you when these things happened? I play from 4-5pm PST on our borderlands/Eternal Battlegrounds and i have NEVER seen this happen. I’ve seen arguing people, name calling, and general dissatisfaction with not winning but i have never seen someone call for everyone on the map to ban one person.
Also you still have yet to answer the question that has been asked a couple times “what guilds transferred?”

But I hope you have fun on DB in all seriousness. You clearly feel slighted by BG so maybe your move will help relax you a bit. I mean, its just a game, go where the fun is, right?

I hope more people from blackgate posts because people above me already said they remember me leading….so I’m sure someone has seen them spam chat saying to block me. It’s simple to understand really….their guild takes presidence over the server….and if you have someone not in the guild commanding you want to immediately put an end to that so that their guild leaders have control of the map. So then it turns into a PR campaign to publicly assassinate the character of the person leading them…and this happened over and over especially in EB.

What is the trophy for guilds shelling out tons of gold….and players paying for repair after repair for a week of battle? What does the winning server get? I don’t know…..you tell me.

I have run with you and have had very successful raiding runs while you were commanding troops. The problem it seems is when those bigger guilds’ leaders came on, and their members who had previously been following you switched to following their mates again, you had issues.
Instead of giving a turnover on what you’d done, what was happening, your insights to the ebb and flow of the current battles, you complained and ridiculed their leadership and pointed the finger at yourself for what YOU had accomplished in their absence. Of, course this was all done during the transition to prime-time players. You planted a seed of discontent and confusion, forcing them to put you on ignore after your repeated insults and derogatory comments.

I was the one who tried to make light of it all by talking up donuts, lol.

Anyway, had you just followed and helped, our success would have been swifter, instead it was a major distraction to the overall plan, as you created confusion and unnecessary extra message traffic in chat..

I have no ill will against you, but I was an objective third party who has been led by you and others.

I hope that when you run into the same issue of someone usurping your leadership on your new server, you do not resort to another “jump” to another server.

At least you were on when I was commanding and got to see us own almost the entire map. I’m sure you even witnessed us take SM when we were way outnumbered. So I don’t understand why you….or anyone else would stop following a successful commander…unless…oh wait….politics is involved and guild leaders take precedence over none guild members who are successful. In fact when <Insert Guild Name> tried to silence me and block me and tell everyone I was a troll you guys lost over half of what we had conquered. After reading this thread, and having the OP only immaturely add “no they blocked you” etc to quotes to re-emphasis his yet to be proven accusations and blatantly siding with other posters who is on his side, this just seem silly.
Also like many i’ve yet to see this Overkill or Expletus guild on wvw before, and im an Oceanic player and for you to state those two stated guilds being BG’s main guild is a blatant lie and makes me wonder do you even wvw?

As many would know that the two most prominent guilds in BG currently are RQ and URGE, but of course they aren’t 500 man guilds and can’t operate all 4 maps alone, we are starting to get more guilds willing and able to help lead other maps, eg KnT.

We don’t run dictatorship, we don’t have large alliances to run all 4 maps, we have multiple guilds of different sizes leading at different times and maps but of course there is still many holes, so you could’ve been 1 of the guilds that can help patch up our schedules but you chose to run.
Wait no you couldn’t, you don’t even know your (or really) own server’s largest movement the blackgate war council to unify multiple guilds into an community/alliance to work together for wvw. Your accusations are very harsh and have many flaws to start pointing fingers towards the entire server when you’ve (maybe) had bad experiences with two guilds nobody have really seen before.

I know its a sin to bring up World of Warcraft….but in Vanilla WoW what made it so much fun is knowing the names of the people we were fighting and seeing them every day.

Last night Blackgate’s leadership was a mess.

Keripo’s right, I think [URGE] and [RQ] are the only guilds with commanders, and are the only people that seem able to get zerg’s organized. The commanders are competent.

I agree with Kaine’s setiments on wishing there were more, and more inclusive, guilds on BG. I was on the BG community mumble over the weekend to get better comms and it was about 90% Urge & Rage Quit and full of Jr. high school level gay and kitten jokes. After a few hours I couldn’t stand it, which is saying a lot since I’m not exactly the most mature person in the world. It was easier to contribute by disconnecting from mumble and following the map’s blue Dorito.

What are the two wvw guilds you mentioned on Blackgate?

Hi, I am Valkyrja Flame of the Blackgate server. I am one of our night-time Commanders from the guild RageQuit Inc [RQ], which is an international guild. I have not been online this past half week due to some RL reasons (will be on tonight though), but we spearhead the Borderlands night-time presence since that is when most of us are back from work ([RQ]’s other Commander, The Champ, is also in the same timezone as me). The other large night-time guild with a presence on the Borderlands is [Urge], an Oceanic guild lead by Choco Eclair. I am not too familiar with Eternal Battlegrounds but [RQ] third Commander, Iifa, usually leads that, and I know the guild [BBB] has a huge presence there as well. There are numerous other sizable guilds with a strong WvW presence as well, which you can find a partial list at http://www.blackgatewvw.com/alliance/

Blackgate does have an organizational WvW council, called the Blackgate War Council. We also host a community Mumble (1000-slot) as well as new forums that just went up a few days ago. Our community website is at http://www.blackgatewvw.com/ . Our council, while young and still in the process of brushing up and sorting itself out, operates similar to an open democracy. There is no intention of running any dictatorship-style operation, especially considering that we all recognize that Blackgate consists of multiple small guilds and the key to winning is working together and coordinating the WvW effort (preferrably over Mumble).

Back to the original post, as an active WvW Commander, I have never seen nor heard of either of those formentioned guilds, <Expletus> and <Overkill> (unless they suddenly appeared this matchup and strutted in demanding attention). I also do not see them on the alliance list at http://www.blackgatewvw.com/alliance/ . While I cannot represent them due to that fact, I can apologize on behalf of the organized WvW guilds of Blackgate for your bad experience. When you are on a losing server, tensions often run high and it’s natural for players to digress into arguing over pointless things over map chat (name-calling, personal attacks, general trolling, etc.). If a Commander or other mature leadership figures aren’t online at that time to help sort things out, bad experiences like yours could happen. As our alliance slowly grows and gains more experience with things such as balancing out coverage, I believe this will become less of an issue. Personally, as an [RQ] Commander, I always openly listen to the voices of my fellow server members as I recognize that we are just a small part of the larger Beast, and to win, we must work together and coordinate.

There’s a saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going”. We at Blackgate disagree with that statement. When we’re winning, we keep on pushing. When we’re losing, we still keep on pushing. As [ELITE]‘s leader from HoD server once described us, we are the server that just doesn’t give up. That is what earned us the nickname “Beastgate” and it is one characteristic that we will continue being known for.

I would bet that the reason you guys have never heard of other guilds outside of the ones you mentioned…to the point that you have to look them up…is because you have them blocked. And I’ve yet to be in any guild thats part of this “Blackgate Alliance” however if there is an Alliance and there are ranks as you put it so mildly…no wait you boasted about your rank….then I can guarantee there is a hierarchy when it comes to WvW and I’m pretty sure that anyone not involved in that hierarchy is irrelevant.

DB has a great community and it makes WvW a lot of fun, even if we are losing. Our Queue times are short too!

I noticed BG having serious issues on Friday and Saturday. I got the feeling from BG that groups of people hated each other and refused to work together. Multiple times they attacked 2-3 different outer gates on BG garrison, at the same time! Then break in and wipe at different times. It was really sad. (this went on for 8 hours) Glad to see people got fed up with that kitten and looked for greener pastures.

This is spot on.

2 guilds are fighting for control and block everyone that is not in those 2 guilds. So if you were getting hit from 3 spots it was probably one guild going one side, the other guild the other side (trying to prove a point)…..and a broken down waterfall of communication making it to the people who just read chat and all they see is “we are attacking X” with no directions from what side. I’ve spammed chat multiple times trying to get us all on one side because the 2 guilds do not like to give out information in chat where they are going.

Who has a larger population….Dragonbrand or Blackgate?

The main 2 Guilds running Blackgates WvW at night have stated multiple times that SM is useless. The only times i remember controlling SM is when I led a group to capture it 2 days ago from the South East Wall using 4 Trebs we had set up at Quenten Lake…..and when I logged in last night we had it. The rest of the time it seems DB controlled.

Not whining Im just informing people of the WvW situation on BG in case they are unaware. I personally would never transfer to a server that has 2 guilds running the show and blocks anyone else who tries to help. But thats just me….maybe you like being controlled.

Well nothing against BG at all except for the groups of cheaters. They do all of their progression at night. They make absolutely no headway at primetime, but they have 2 large guild who cap the empty points at night, which we take back between 9am est – 12pm est cause the one guild logs off

If you ever fight Blackgate just keep in mind that the server has ZERO leadership until starting at around 6-8pm (central time) when the main 2 guilds start queing up. You can easily take their main keeps in the morning.

The more offensive you go against Blackgate the more they will fight in chat and block each other until there is often no communication at all.

I made the transfer to Dragonbrand and it is literally like night and day. They rarely argue…there is no dominant guilds demanding that you not talk in chat or be blocked for being an idiot for not agreeing with them. The entire community of the game has changed for me since the transfer.

Why the title for this post? Since I transferred several of my friends have transferred and since 2 of them were GM’s their guild has made the move with them.

It’s surprising how one server’s community can be so different from another server’s community.

To be honest I’ve never considered the Guild Wars brand to be bogged down by such outdated MMO concepts as ‘endgame’ content.

Guild Wars was never about rushing to level up and then raiding, and giving up hours of your life in the same 2 dungeons, over and over, in the hope you might get that one piece of armor that will make you feel better than other players. I don’t see the point in that concept either – it seems terribly boring to me and I’m actually dissapointed they have caved and given us dungeons in GW2. When I played WoW I avoided raiding and dungeons like the plague as I couldn’t think of anything more dull, yet I still had fun in the game. I was still able to do well in PvP, and travel the world doing all I needed and wanted to do without those bits of armor that were supposed to be what I was aiming for /shrugs

My idea of ‘endgame’ in Guild Wars is completing every single little thing I can complete on one character (story, exploring, skills unlocks, pretty armor skins, crafting, etc) …then starting a NEW character so I can experience it all again with a different class – and now also with a different race.

I think the problem is that a lot of players have come to this game with the idea that it will be a clone of the other MMOs out there. This game is NOT those games – it’s concepts and ideals are different. If you buy the game hoping for ‘endgame’ that consists of a WoW clone …then you probably will be disappointed if you can’t adapt to/enjoy the Guild Wars concept.

Personally, I love Guild Wars and I love this game. Neither game are perfect, but there is plenty enough content for me to enjoy it for a very long time – without rushing one character to 80 then sitting on my thumbs and whining that it’s not like every other MMO out there.

When someone says “end game” what does that mean to you?

When someone mentions end game to me….the two things that come to mind is raiding or numerous really hard 5 man’s….in which both drop really cool looking gear that you cannot get anywhere else other than completing those raids/instances.

I’m a PvP player and have rarely raided or PvE’d at all…..but from all my experience in MMO’s I would consider PvE the actual “end game” of a game. I don’t really consider PvP end game in any game…since it can be done in most games from a very low level.

If you could buy any graphics card for a PC which one would you buy and why?

You will likely have issues with that card, (Also nice trollin) due to the fact that it is a workstation card, not a gaming card. The drivers will not work well with games most of the time.

WvWvW has very little to do with the actual PC after a point. I am playing on a 980X, with dual 690s. I do not have much of a lag issue graphically, however the game chokes on loading of people. It is the engine, not your PC after a point.

Also, I get skill lag, and that just seems to be server side lag again. It is not my connection, it has to be ANets end, it quite sucks.

(I hope you are doing rendering and such for that FirePro. I personally use mine for rendering but I go with game cards even though they do not CUDA as well as actual quatro cards, they give me the ability to game well!)

Actually the reason why I’m getting the card is that several of my friends have it. They all use it for gaming except one that uses it for engineering.

Whats your FPS in PvE and PvP on your 5830?

On my current Radeon gaming card I get about 50 FPS in PvE and 12-16 FPS in WvW. I’m playing on a liquid cooled quad. I hope that the FirePro V9800 I just purchased (its being shipped) will increase my FPS. What graphics card are you running on and what is your FPS in PvE and PvP?

Every time I make a new character or log onto an old character the same guild invite pops up over and over…..I click ignore every time and it keeps popping up when I log back in. How do I stop those guild invites from popping up over and over?

Whenever I interact with a floating map and watch the cinematic I always lose my sound when the cinematic ends….and I have to relog. So now I just avoid them.

Since most people in the MMO industry use WoW for most comparisons….

I just want you to know that I’m a WoW veteran….I’ve played since WoW’s first Beta….I played when Tauren’s didnt have mounts only plain-strider speed….I played when Will of the forsaken and underwater breathing for undead was passive…..i played when paladins abilties did more damage against undead players…I played when Alterac Valley did not end till 8 hours had passed and all the elites had been summoned….I played when the Hall of Champions was reserved for champions….i played before arena existed…..before BG’s existed….I played when the only way to Achieve Grand Marshal or Highwarlord was to drop out of school or quit your job….I could go on and on but you get the idea….

I see a lot of posts about this games end game content. I remember when WoW came out the only end game content we had was MC. Why would a game designer spend a significant amount of time on the end game content when the mass majority of it’s player base is leveling up for the first time. Doesn’t it make sense that a game would focus more time on the leveling experience since new players are being introduced into the game for the first time….and add more “end game” content as the “community” together reaches max level. If you were a game designer why would you only cater to a few hard core players that reach the max level within a couple of days? It doesn’t make any sense at all that you would spend a significant amount of time on end game content when you are trying to create an addictive leveling experience for people new to the game…at least that’s what WoW realized when it released its MMO…..and that formula worked…because numbers don’t lie.

But not only has Guild Wars focused on the core community of its game it also has a superior business strategy as well…which is to profit solely off the support of our community. You see…Blizzard has a strategy too….one that most of you will be reading about for the first time in this post so grab some popcorn. Now as we all know Blizzard charges subscription fees for World of Warcraft….and we also know that Blizzard offered us a free Diablo 3 in exchange for a year of WoW….and everyone here agrees that Blizzard did not spend a significant amount of time on Diablo 3 and I’ve yet to talk to anyone who thought that was an amazing game or who even still plays it….***So here’s their game plan….They gave most players a low quality made game (they didn’t have to sacrifice a lot of time and resources into) for free in exchange for a year of WoW so that players would feel obligated to buy the expansion when it released….BUT WAIT there’s more…..when the years subscription ends and you’ve had all the WoW you can take….they will introduce you to a new game titled “Project Titan”. The COO of Blizzard (Paul Sams) said their most talented people are working on “Project Titan” and that great people “under” them are managing WoW. So not only is WoW a sinking ship but their COO is even telling you that his best people are working on another project. Guild Wars has its best people working on their game RIGHT NOW….and they are NOT trying to to manipulate you through crafty marketing strategies to lock you into the game. The GW2 business strategy requires that the community supports the game in order for it to succeed…unlike Blizzard.

PvP? I’ve ranked gladiator many times on the unending grind to the top….where emotions run high and a demon arises within the nerd. Arena is NOT fun….it’s a grind…just like WoW PvE is. This game isn’t a grind…in WvW I actually enjoy myself if we win or lose and I never feel the tension that I felt in arena. Arena and BG’s for me at one point had turned into a job….this has never felt like that. Even in WoW when I mention GW2 most people in every chat channel no matter what they think about GW2 in general will always say the PvP is more fun than WoW.

What about MoP? I made my panda monk with his bouncing belly….and ran him around till he was level 15….then logged onto my 85 paladin and mounted on my ZG tiger mount and explored the entire new island in under 30 mins……then for the first time ever I logged out, cancelled my account, and uninstalled the game. Yes GW2 is that good.

The point of this post was to show you that every game needs time to grow and that even though criticism is important towards a games success….its equally important that you understand that the game was built for a community as a whole and also that the meaning of end game “evolves” as the “community” matures and grows.

Thanks….that sounds very limiting….in PvE and PvP…..lots of lost damage.

Flamethrower, Elixir Gun, Tool Kit, Bomb Kit all got “auto attacks” it’s just that currently they’re bugged n don’t save the Auto attack setting so we gotta Ctrl +Right click everytime we switch to a kit.

What about grenades? I do a lot of PvP and people never stand still…

I haven’t leveled an engineer but I’ve heard that grenades have to be aimed and not even the first ability auto attacks. I then saw an engineer using his flame thrower and asked him if the flame thrower had an auto attack option for the first key….and he replied “no”. So do you guys manually mash your main attack 50000 times in a dungeon while at the same time trying to activate your other abilities? I’ve yet to play a class that didn’t have auto attacks. Can someone explain what weapons do and do not use an auto attack?

I do wish I would have went Warrior with the exception of the 1handed sword option (I absolutely love Guardian’s 1h sword abilities)

Warriors have more options in terms of weapons which is HUGE. I’ve learned that torch AND shield offhand are pretty useless options. The torch brings Zealot’s Flame to the table, which is the only good thing imo, and a channeled 600 range breath ability which is totally mediocre (I’d rather be autoing with my 1h sword).

Guardian’s 1h mace is severely disappointing – It doesn’t have any sort of debuff application (weakness, cripple, etc). It has a terrible channeled block mechanic (which was buffed so you could run with it, but it’s still terrible, let’s agree). Oh, and that tiny symbol in which no one ever stands.

We also lack ANY form of long range option (scepter is not included, sorry boys. You can run away from scepter autoattacks without any speed buffs from 600 range without taking any damage – means I have to be CLOSER than 600 to hit you, WITHOUT any speed buffs mind you) Which makes Wv3 a total bore. Added to the low quality of scepter projectile pathing, it also SOUNDS and LOOKS terrible to use. SO basically your only range option looks bad.

The only offhand option that is good is the Focus (and it’s really good.)

Many complain about the Warrior’s burst ability being a boring mechanic, but let me tell you, Guardian’s “special mechanics” aka Virtues are even MORE boring. You pretty much never activate 2 or 3, because removing the passive is not worth it. So you’re left with one activation (same as Warrior) that isn’t available as often, and isn’t an additional attack or fun option to use.

Warriors seem to have more fun swinging around what’s available to them. And after having a warrior in my party bring amazing buffs to the table via shouts (I don’t like banners nearly as much) I have to say they bring not only awesome damage but utility to the table.

P.S. Now that I think of it, our 2h hammer rocks too.

Do you ever wish that you’d gone “Guardian” instead of Warrior? And why?

I hear warrior after warrior tell me that they wish they had gone guardian….

But do any of you guardians wish that you had gone warrior? And why?
