GW2 is a casual centric game. Best casual MMO on the market atm.
Players that want any thing more than a casual experience will not be playing GW2
Not sure if playerbase is declining, perhaps they are busy IRL. This is a game you can always come back to no matter how long you have been away. Normally I get on everyday, but doing remodeling so been putting off gaming time.
Now, if someone wants to come finish the remodeling, I will HAPPILY go back to gaming!

The playerbase is not declining it can only grow, but the active playerbase people that are actually playing is declining at quite a rate.
The jumping / maze puzzle one look scary, if its like the clocktower, I have no chance and won’t go near it but I will watch on youtube.
The bounty one looks awesome and can see loads of passerbys joining that…
They are basically what Open World PvE is now Zerg the world boss/mob.
I left a game that had this, it was hugely irritating to be endlessy spammed with duel requests. It was one of the many things that drove me from the game.
It was not that everyone wanted to duel, but those who did…never stopped challenging people. A complete PITA.
So personally I hope it does not become a similar system where I must put up with endless interuptions from people wanting to duel.
Would at least need a preference to auto decline duels.

Because crit and condition builds are seperate by trait, if condition’s could crit then people who make condition builds would be forced to also go into crit stats and traits which would kill the point of builds being unique. Crit would be essential to condition builds if conditions critted.
What are u talking about? That is already the case.
In most skill traits trees, condition or condition duration is in the Preision tree (crit) and gives Crit damage.

Go try and tank Jade Maw with your “tank” build, tottaly allows you the ability to migrate damage which insta kills you.

You can’t tank in this game. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you can viably tank.
As some guy figured that the mobs have different targeting priorities.
1 . Proximity, the closest target towards them.
2. Downed players
3. Players with the least vitality
4. Players with the most toughness
Though all these and more change depending on the mob, you are in no way tanking fractals, not even migrating the damage thrown by mobs. You simply become a punching bag for a few seconds or for longer depending on all of the above and more. Not on the symbols, skills, consecration ground you use.
Wow I must say this is the first and only game where i’ve ever seen someone hit 1kk with a hotbar skill . Can’t tell if that’s good or not.
The same people complain about lack of trinity will complain about something else as a way to justify their own failings in the game.
It’s like an American moving to Germany then complains about Germans not speaking English instead of accepting that they need to learn German.

The problem is, unlike WOW, you are not directed to do anything in particular. In WOW you are directed to grind dungeons. Maybe more end game direction is in order?

This is a game not a book. Every encounter must be FUN to play, bending the story to reach the goal if necessary. Really disappointed by the fight against Zaithan.
Of course the game isn’t a book. But it’s also not a typical MMO. Everything has to be the same. It was this way in game A, so it has to be this way in game B. Shrugs.
I like that this game is different in a lot of ways. I don’t mind not having every boss some big huge crazy thing. I really don’t. If everything is the same and people get used to it, they just get jaded and it has to be bigger and more exaggerated.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion as you’re entitled to yours. In my opinion, the reason people don’t like the end game is because they’re isolating the boss fight from the rest of the story. I didn’t do that. Therefore I enjoyed it more.
It’s okay to be disappointed, but it’s a hell of a lot more fun not to be.

Well you did. There are different ways to kill something. When I’m in WvW, I like to cut off supply to keeps, rather than take them. It’s not a big thing, but it’s a useful thing. I often play harrasser professions. I’m perfectly happy taking down Zhaitan one stage at a time, starving him, blinding him, depriving him off corpses. This works for me. It’s how I do things.
If it doesn’t work for you, fair enough. But don’t tell me I’m making excuses. If you’re not able to see it from my point of view, that’s fine. It doesn’t make my point of view less valid than yours. And it doesn’t make your opinion into fact.

Currently, I have five lvl 80 characters in full exotic/ascended and I’m working on a 6th.If leveling a character was the most fun aspect of the game for you… why not continue to do so?
Maybe because when people play online role playing games they normaly like specific roles such as the mage or the warrior so they lick specfic classes and not everyone wants to have 7 max level characters just because there is nothing to do in the game.
To someone like me that would be a complete waste of time, what get another 3 characters to 80 and then face the same probelm and quit due to lack of end game i’d rather not repeat the leveling procces 5 times I enjoyed it the first time and the second not the sixth, seventh and eighth time.

The thing is what Eles don’t realise is. Other profession simply cannot and will not ever beable to perform on a level of the D/D because they do not have the tools to do so. You realise an Ele at any given time has 2x more kills to pop then a guardian or ranger or necro. Having attunements allowed you to constantly spawn skill slots allowing 0 downtime and the ablitly to instantly deal damage or heal while others are skill waiting on there skill recharges.
IT isn’t a gold standard it’s a standard that can only be reached by 2 proffesions in the game Engi and Ele. You realise not every class has 3+ types of combos fields and has the ablity to blasy,leap,whirl there own fields?
Warriors have 1 combo field available a fire field as a burst skill that need adrenaline on the longbow their worst and most useless weapon.
Guardians have 2 combo fields light and fire, allows them to stack might and cure conditions they will never be able to have as much ulitlity as a Ele who has Water,fire,Ice,Lighting fields and every type of finisher.
Right now there are ele builds which give them the ablitly to have perma swiftness, that alone needs to be looked at.

That was slightly erotic . But I agree GW2 seems to be a filler game not a main game where you strave to obtain your goals! Where guilds compete competitively where Pvp is a an ever going battle! Gw2 feels like a single player rpg, you have an amazing 1 to 80 experience and then reach 80 and put it down.
For me it’s a filler (well i quit now) for Wildstar/MH3G/TESO or Neverwinter!
Combos are the mad thing EVER. In some events full of people, and we must call friends or guildies that know how to do them, for do them. :P
Yes they are mad? but doesn’t require much coordination, place X here so i can Y to produce Z. At it’s most basic form.
The number one problem is terrrible loot. I have not received a single exotic since the Nov patch (barring mapping or special events). Even rares, which are really not worth much at all, are indeed very rare. It just seems pointless playing sometimes as there is no reward in a reward based game.
I already know droves of people (over 100 players in my original guild) that have left because there was no incentive to play.I am still playing because it’s free but I am acively looking for something to replace it with which is a shame. It could be a good game but at the moment it just isn’t. Every boss or dragon ends in disappointment as soon as you open the loot. Nobody will continue with that for too long, even the fanboys will have had a gutfull sooner rather than later.
So without a loot rule change I think it will soon be a dead game.
Again, I don’t see leaving the current system resulting in a dead game, especially not soon. I do, however, think the game would start to grow at a higher rate if the system was tweaked.
I don’t know, maybe we just have different takes on what a “dead game” is.
By dead game I don’t mean nobody playing it. To me a dead game is one that is shrinking. Once a games player base starts shrinking it’s very difficult to pull it back into line. Investment gets cut, updates reduce, more people leave, difficult to attract new players and the cycle continues until they eventually pull the plug.
The bottom line is that most other games make returning to them a bit of a chore and something you need to be committed to. GW2 keeps the red carpet rolled out long after you’ve left, so you are always welcomed back. They even hold the door open for you. So when people leave, it will tend to be for shorter periods, with a much higher chance that they will return. That’s how the game will stay alive.
You never need to quit GW2. You just go off and play something else for a while.
The thing is, this statment is wrong. I know many a people who have out right quit the game. Just because it becomes free to play after you purchase it, it doesn’t mean u can never quit.
In saying that everyone free to play mmorpg people have played actually never quit becuase it’s free and they can go back any time they want just like GW". But that isn’t the case. Normally people quit for reasons like not liking mechanics or game breaking problems that aren’t fixed or never get fixed. Or a ever dying spvp community which is sending pvpers away to actual competitve pvp games they won’t come back.
And I have to say I disagree. He said “higher chance that they will return” not that everyone will come back. It only seems logical that free-to-play games are more appealing to jump back in simply for the ease and the free part.
You saying you know people that quit and won’t come back doesn’t make his statement wrong. I’ve talked to many people that say they don’t worry to much about staying hooked to the game for the simple reason they can come and go as they please. I know many people that have this attitude.
I won’t say it is the general attitude, but I would say the percentage is quite a bit higher here than for a pay-to-play for obvious reasons.
I would also like to point out that I feel like many players that quit this early on in a game’s life are simply realizing it is not the game for them. Let’s just face it that many players came to GW2 without doing their research and expected the typical MMO.

Also your speaking too much from experience the cast is the competitive pvp community is drying up this is fact, the total amount of NA competitive teams is 2, and EU i’m not sure (even know i’m from eu :/).
There’s no way to tell we are both speaking out of experience neither of use are right. While I know a lot of people who once they dislike a product they move onto the next product. Not stating that as fact though.
If you think this is complex, what if every ability could be woven together to create an ultra combo. If every profession had acces to 5 skills per weapon and could swap to 4 different weapons; you could create a sequence that consisted of 20 hits.
Thats not even the best part.
The best part is that players could create thier own combos, shorter combos. In PVP, players would need to use combo breakers to avoid from getting owned. You have Dodge, Stun Breakers, Condition Removals, Invulerability, Teleports, Stealth, Knockbacks and Immobilize.
I don’t think it’s that complex but it’s a step above the simplistic system we have now, pvp is so dull because of it, sure being able to pull of a simple sequence with the 100nades is sweet but it’s the most basic type of skill play.
This is the kind of depth that would bring me back
Actual beneficial combos! Guardian hammer is so boring atm but it’s my favorite weapon (i love hammers).
Also they would vary combos fields, e.g the hammer protection symbol should be able to be blast finished into a protection black finisher or the mace healing symbol into a regeneration black finisher instead of all symbols giving might on blast finisher rendering them useless for other play styles that aren’t about dps dps dps.
I stopped playing because of it, but taking advantage of it as a thief was fun for a while.
There is one major thing that turned me off playing the game, it was it’s lackluster basic combo system…….lacking to a point where there are builds benefiting from stacking one buff (Might) by repeated use of the same field which has different effects.
I have a 80 guardian one thing that I noticed was all symbol fields produce the same effect regardless of there purpose. I know all symbols count as light but it was stupid how the mace healing symbol produced the same outcome as the hammer protection symbol or greatsword retaliation symbol which would 3 stacks of might.
Why couldn’t the mace healing symbol syngeies with it’s role? healing and protection so a blast finisher would result in an out come of a stack of regeneration (Also so find it stupid how might is the only positive stacking buff) or a blast finisher on a protection symbol result in an out come protection ?
Would help the guardian in upkeep of buffs not only for himself but also for the group it seems only Eles are able to maintain such buff upkeep because o there bazillion tools guess it’s the reason why 3 or more eles is actually beneficial.

Or you could actually act like a guardian who has passive healing and do that. No reason to be a guardian if your not using it’s core mechanics. Might as well been a warrior if you didn’t want to do the (guard) in guardian.
Except a guardian has different ways of being a guardian. Don’t sink the class into one role just because you rely on it.
Didn’t realise resolve was different for each guardian? Does yours give Might? or apply a condition that’s neat all my does it heal.
At least with thief burst I have a split second to react and break free.
Pretty hard to watch a marble sized asura engi for the cast animation and avoid the magnet pull. Even worse when its mayhem with mesmer clones/fiels and etc flying around.

Anyway yea iit’s what i used on my engi when i use to play. While i say it is increadibly hard to land and requires me to put all my eggs in one basket if I miss then i’m left vulnerable with no escapes but if it hits then your dead.
I’m really surprised by these deserted servers. I’ve played in Piken Square (EU) since I started and it’s always been a medium populated server (there isn’t low populated servers in EU) and you can always meet other players everywhere I go. Even when I have my bouts of insomnia and decide to play through the night I still see people doing events. Sometimes I will go into an area and there will be some time before I meet another player but it’s very rare not to find at least another player in the map.
Just a quick bit of info, even if a server says High or Meduim next to it the actual playing population could be Low, the High/Meduim refers to accounts that have made that server their home server.
Anything that isn’t a Necro. Necros make good bunkers though, but bunkering (new word?) isn’t much fun imo.

All kidding aside, I kinda like that rotations vary in their practical applications, and that not every class presses every button to do a DPS rotation. I’m kind of a fan of not having to stay 100% on top of my rotation to play the game. It’s true that a complicated DPS rotation adds depth, but depth can be added in other ways.
Being able to click through a few potential buttons might be nice, though, like you can change between your skills? You should be able to click an arrow above your 1/2/3/4/5 and change it to something else. Like if you’re a necro with a tootyhorn, you can change your daze toot to a fear toot.

You get the idea, it really isn’t much different than other games with rotations just a lot more simplistic. I made a warrior and leveled him to 35 by that time most of my PVE encounters consisted of pressing the 1 and 2 key as 3, 4 and 5 where soley situation and actually made killing things take longer.
There are several classes in this game who can effectively survive with there heal skill and the 1 key.
Nothing’s going to change until they actually add more game types NOT NEW MAPS, new incentives to get people playing pvp and when spvp actually becomes what Fun? because it isn’t atm.
The low pvp population is justified GW2 is the game you DON’T go to if you want either fun or competitive pvp i can tell you now.

It’s a mixture of some shallow skills, and how many PvE fights are shallow.
Couldn’t of said it better myself.
Also the probem the devs have run into with PVE content is that the systems and mechanics they’ve created have caused gameplay halt in challenge.
They’ve had to bring in additional mechanics to add challenaging gameplay, e.g the agony resistance seen in higher level fractals due to the game mechanics being so simple they’ve had to build on it by adding an extra tier of resistance to combat the shallow PVE fights.
Downstate was done poorly end of!
Downstate was put in to combat burst in PVP due to there being no dedicated healer, but instead it actually gave more reason to create a builds around bursting someone down in 1 second. Reason engis only viable offensive build is 100nades, because condition builds are limiting and terrible.
Downstate is clearly favoring some classes like Ele or theif or mesmer which have a free teleport/invulnerably while classes such as Engi (their 2 down skill is basically a here come finish me, i’ll even pull u towards me and help) is terrible and guardian which all the player needs is to pop stablity and then the guardian downstate is useless.
It doesn’t add as much depth as people are thinking it does. It takes a tiny bit of brain power to combat. Like i’ve shown with the guardian downstate the Ranger,Engi,Guardian downstates can be nullified with a simple pop of stablity rendering them uttlerly useless. All they do is prolong a players death, nothing more, nothing less.
If it was something which actively changed the course of battle allowing someone to a risk vs reward decision then the downstate would be a lot better. Things like the warriors 3 downskill but being able to be activated near death rather than at death.
Being a huge single-player game franchise doesn’t mean that your MMO will sell well.
Or survive well. There’s nothing to say that 5 million initial comers would still be there 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months down the road.
It really is possible. TES is an amazing franchise with a massive fanbase. Remember TES is loved by not only MMO players but western RPG lovers and console gamers, unlike GW2 so it has a much larger demographic. Also certain devs on the dev team worked on DAoC so the 3v3 faction pvp will be done right.
Remeber also, Diablo 3 sold 6Mil on it’s launch. TESO could easily sell 3 to 4 mil within 1 month or on release of it’s launch.

Many games did it better, not going to list them 1 because there too many and 2 im not a person who likes comparing games.

Traits – The biggest illusion of depth , Each trait line gives players less choice then they actually think for instance the Zeal line of the Guardian tree putting points into the tree automatically increases your condition duration whether you like it or not, which is actually forcing the player down a linear path of I need to make this sub trait useful which it isn’t which is why most have said Zeal is the worst guardian trait line.
Traits- 20% cooldown reduction and +5% damage with X weapon traits fitted into specific trait lines, another way the illusion of depth fouls people. This doesn’t allow you to define the way you play at all instead it just adds to limiting build diversity.
Build Diversity- The thing is people here don’t realise is that people have been complaining about build diversity or the lack of it in SPvp for ages, the trait system creates cookie cutter builds as certain proffesions are actually useless outside those 2 builds. E.g look at the Engineer in Spvp (bombs or 100 nades) , Ranger (traps only), Guardian (bunker only). This has hurt Spvp so much that it’s actually caused the loss of many many many players and it doing nothing but hurting this games pvp scene.
There’s a reason hardly any people are interested in playing or watching Spvp as it’s seem as a broken mess by most with a never ending meta of bunkers and bursts which ANet seem to like.

I suggest u do what I and many others have done, find other games to pvp in GW2 clearly isn’t a game if you want to experience pvp in more ways than 5v5 conquest.

Anyone complaining about zergs is an idiot.
You want small scale – go play s(illy)pvp. I bought this game for one reason and one reason only – large scale battles. And since the culling change (which incidentally is much much much better for me) we’ve had them non stop – massive 3 way fights lasting 5, 10, 15 minutes.
If you’re whining about zergs you’re in the wrong game.
Wow! hahahah this is the post of someone who clearly has no experience of how WvW (RvR) is gone right. Oh god i feel sorry for the person at the end of this post.

I made a topic a while ago stating how terrible GW2 Pvp is and it hasn’t improved in those 4 months at all, it’s actually gone backwards.
Tried playing on my own last week (as everyone i know quit in the first month) and oh my lord is culling terrible, I have genuinly NEVER expected such a game breaking issue in PVP. Having a zerg of 50 so players spawn on top of my and kill everyone around me before they have even loaded on my screen is terrible.
To tell you the truth i’ve given up on this game, it has no staying power at all, the PVE is either broken as hell filled with bugs and glitches or mindnumbingly boring. The Pvp is the most repetitive stale thing I have ever experienced. And I only post on these forums ever few weeks because I actually like the game and want it to be better but with each week it becomes worse and worse and If the March patch makes things worse then i’ll be gone for good, “b2p” or not.
I’m sorry, but what game does have an endgame? WoW? A game which you grind for gear, that allows you to grind for better gear that ultimately makes you able to compete in PvP which makes you grind for rank? Give me one mmorpg that has endgame, in which you wouldn’t complain about grinding. Please. I beg you. I will migrate to it right now.
Aion had endgame, with actual tactical PVPVE in either Dredgion or Abyss Fort Assaults, end game raids, rifts, openworld, world bosses that were actually rare (thought guilds did camp them sometimes), tournaments, player housing, mount collecting, flight races and challanages…… now that i think about it WvWvW is a lot like Aion’s Abyss suffering from the same probelm but with a LOT LOT LESS.
In Aion Forts your faction captured actually unlocked Instances specific to that Fort, there was a third faction the Baluar in PvPvE (WvWvW). There was Dredgion which was again PvPvE.
Just actual content that cottoned up “exploring” or “cosmetics” the thing was Aion had both of those, cosmetics were a big part of Aion but it wasn’t listed one of it’s main features it was just a standard.
