So are you saying if a mesmer were to hide in inner, they drop a portal and run past the two walls and outside of hills to port the army in? I didn’t realize the range of portal was that far.

There are places where you can drop down the cliff near inner, into the valley below safely. You don’t have to run all the way to the outer wall.

The new renewed stamina should keep you under vigor as long as you keep attacking (and whenever you cast an arcane skill).

That’s true. However, it also means that you won’t have vigor to regen your endurance during the time that you’re disengaged. Whether that’s to get a breather and recoup, or because your opponent is kiting you.

So I finally got patched up and in game… Really annoyed they changed renewing stamina. I see WHY they did it, but it’s kinda brutal for non-bunker D/D.

EDIT: You can now only receive vigor every 5s.

every other long range charge still has a short CD (swoop at 12s, rush at 15s, etc).

But for other professions, that’s all they get. D/D also has Fiery Rush and Magnetic Grasp, as well as Lightning Flash and some charges in the conjure weapons should you choose to use them.

The ranger could get another 1000 from sword 2, 600 from shortbow 3, and 600 from lightning reflexes.

The warrior can get another 450 from whirlwind, 600 from sword 2, 600 from bulls rush, 1200 from rampage 3, etc.

They have as much mobility if they choose to take it. I know, it’s a fairly minor nerf, just annoying.

RTL nerf is well deserved , the highest mobility skill with the shortest cooldown ingame ?

Ranger’s swoop (1100 range) is on 12s base CD. Warrior’s rush (1200 range) is on a 15s base CD. Infiltrator’s arrow or heartseeker can both cover as much distance, but with a significant initiative burn.

Except that the D/D build in question puts out no damage.

The ONLY thing a D/D ele has that makes people mad is RTL, and it’s because it’s a ridiculously good escape for when things are going south. Not a single other aspect of a D/D ele, in a bunker build, cannot be replicated by another class.

If Eles didn’t have RTL, there would be zero complaints about the class.

And the ranger’s swoop, as well as chaining a number of warrior leaps, essentially equal RTL.

I bet next month we will have a massive Q Q about engineers and their one shotting grenade spec.

I’m honestly surprised how few complaints there have been about the 100nades build so far.

It definitely needs some changes. I can’t even change my attunement without the damage effect triggering. Much less dodge, heal, or use pretty much any other ability.

This is a blatant lie, I dueled an ele last night and confusion does not tic on attunement swap, or dodge or heal. The amount of bad players in this thread is very shocking. Oh yeah and the ele beat me in the duel too. Oh wops theres good players out there.

If you go 15 points into any of the elemental trait lines, attunement swaps trigger a spell based on the attunement. So… since I currently have 20 points in air/earth, swapping to either of those attunements causes me to take damage from confusion. Many elementalists are running some variation of the 0/10/0/30/30 build right now, and may not have this issue.

If you have the 30 point arcane trait evasive aracana, dodging will create a spell based on attunement… which also triggers confusion. Though I’m not sure if the cleansing wave dodge will, assuming it clears a condition other than the confusion.

Did I say mesmers were unbeatable? No. But having the condition tick on both offensive and defensive skill use is problematic. Admittedly, in the case of elementalists this is more due to the way our class mechanics are designed (as I described above). But it does apply to everyone on some level.

Opened 250 heavy moldy bags

250 is a pretty small sample size.
About a month ago I opened 3000 Heavy Supply Bags and got:
49 Onyx Cores (1.63%)
11 Onyx Lodestones (0.36%)

You can only get heavy supply bags in WvW correct? Getting 3000 of those would be a pain unless you buy them from the TP, but that would get expensive. They have worse drop rates than the heavy moldy bags.

WvW would be heavy loot bags.

There are some bundles that give bonus skills to elementalists. Boulders for example. Most classes only have the option to throw them, but eles can also turn them into a meteor which does a fair bit more damage.

  1. You should get used to swapping attunements, since you’ll be much more effective using all of your skills in any given fight. Especially as a D/D.
  2. XP in GW2 doesn’t just come from hearts and your personal story. You get it from doing dynamic events that pop up on the landscape. You get it from exploring, mining nodes, resurrecting players and NPCs, crafting, building things in WvW, and kills themselves.
    Of course if you just want to do the hearts, you could always go to one of the other 4 races lv1-15 zones. To do that, go to the icon with crossed swords in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Click to go the heart of the mists. There will be a portal there that will take you to Lion’s Arch, pretty much the commerce hub of the game. There will be a ring of portals there that will take you to any of the other races’ capitols. The starting zones are just outside.
  3. Your favorite element only determines what the headpiece you start with looks like.

The warrior trait is a 10 pointer, and it’s an AoE knockback with no internal CD. Ours is more versatile maybe, but no stronger.

question about a skill

I have another question. I have equipped scepter and dagger and I am attuned to air.
When I use skill number 5 (Updraft) it rolls me quite a few meters back.. in my opinion that’s not very helpful because I am activating it to run faster forwards, not to be pushed back (looks like a dodge backwards) and then run to where I stand before and after that I am able to use it as I wanted it.
Instead of 10,5 seconds I am able to run faster for around 8s due to its countdown by activating.
Is that working as intended? If yes there is a lack in description and it should be added that it pushes you back before you are able to run faster.

The primary purpose of the skill is its blowback, not the swiftness. That said, if you run through your target before hitting updraft it will propel you forward.

I would really like to be able to get some useful information out of it in WvW or PvE. The lack of data and the way it’s presented, particularly for WvW, is awful.

  • No record of condition damage
  • No record of CC
  • No differentiation between criticals and normal hits
  • No differentiation between players and clones
  • No differentiation between classes beyond skill names
  • Entirely gray text

We know all of these metrics are recorded and displayed for sPvP. So either give us access to that interface in WvW and even PvE, or change the combat log in the chat to provide the information in a comprehensible manner.

Perhaps they could use different colours to indicate different effects. Say normal hits were in yellow, criticals in red, stuns are purple, immobilize is blue, etc.

The problem is that I already stick with D/D, but it’s pointless when sieging or defending a tower or when fighting a larger zerg.

I play D/D, I know that I have no ranged abilities and therefore will not be very useful in keep offence/defence. That’s the price I pay for being mobile and semi-melee.

I really disagree here. When attacking a keep, there need to be people who aren’t zeroed in on the gate/siege, watching corners and stopping defenders from getting in. When defending, I can usually make some pretty effective sallies as a D/D ele. Whether that means downing and pushing back attackers, or getting up allies who didn’t quite make it in.

People have gotten Dusk off of normal mobs in the Cursed Shore. The drop rate is just ridiculously low. Especially if you’re not wearing MF armour, but who would do that in WvW?

Frost Bow = 1min +180 Healing and 20% condition duration
Lightning Hammer = 1min +5% critical damage and +180 percision
Earth Shield = 180 to Vitality and Toughness
Flame Axe = 180 power and condition damage
Flaming Greatsword = 260 power and 180 condition damage

That’s a pretty significant buff… Warrants some checking into.

IMO, a lot of you guys are really sounding like you care more about doing your own thing than helping the server win. You want 1 on 1 and small teams vs small team? Have you ever heard about sPvP? You just might be in the wrong kinda of pvp.

While I respect the need for numbers at times… There are some major differences between small group and 1v1 combat in an open world, and in structured. The variety of random encounters that can happen is incredible compared to sPvP, just based on the number of people running around and the terrain itself. Not to mention the way that people behave when the goals are different and they’re not sure where other players (friendlies or enemies) are at or going.

And at the end of the day, it’s really about the combat. Not the points.

I take it the backpiece is the only item available through the forge and it is the first “key” on your journey through FotM (and may not be the best backpiece with infusion on it). Other keys will be acquired by doing the dungeon.

True, I think it was said that the backpieces and the infusions would be separate recipes. Makes sense if there are going to be multiple stat combinations available for the backpieces.

The new dungeons are for hardcore endgame players. You don’t have to do any of the content, you can sit in a corner in Divinitys Reach if you want. It’s ok.

and same could be said for LOTRO, yet they still scrapped and and considered it a failed mechanic.

One difference here is that the dungeon will already be open to players without any infusions at all. I don’t think we know how many fractals yet. By doing the dungeon at a lower difficulty, you can open up the requirements for doing it at a higher difficulty. Is that so different that opening explorable mode by doing story mode?

Again keeping in mind that you can open up at least some of the higher end content without doing the lower end parts.

Worth noting that Infusions can be acquired through the Mystic Forge, rather than gating dungeons behind dungeons. It’s entirely possible that you could be able to bypass the gating mechanic before ever setting foot in the Fractals of the Mists.

We also don’t know at what point in the dungeon, keeping in mind that difficulty will continuously scale, Agony will become unbearable without Infusions. It may be that you can get the Ascended gear you want for later stages well before it’s ever necessary by this method as well.

Wait to see how exactly the system is implemented before passing judgement. And even then, ANet has been far more responsive to making adjustments and responding to player feedback than Turbine ever was. If they feel that the system is dividing the community or creating an undesirable grind, I would expect to see changes fairly quick.

PS – I also think it’s important to remember that for 99% of the content, the current gear will server most players just fine. You can run any of the current explorable dungeons in masterworks if you need to.

(Speculation) Even with regards to WvW, the stat increases that we’ve seen so far will hardly be overwhelming for someone with full exotics. Ascended gear and Infusions are only necessary for very high end PvE content that many players may never even see due to the difficulty of the content before it.

It’s worth noting that ever ground targeted AoEs (such as meteor shower) DO require line of sight. I could not attack a catapult inside a keep, even if I can see it, without elevation. Just panning the camera up doesn’t work, it has to be in LoS from my character’s PoV.

On the phantasms… it also seems like they’ll chase their target further from the spot where they were originally summoned. So a mesmer outside the keep can target you, summon it on you in the courtyard, and it will then keep attacking you if you up deeper into the keep or up the stairs. Perfectly fine, and even essential in PvE/sPvP, but a bit ridiculous in WvW defense.

Each pulse of crippling from churning earth or damage from burning speed is an attack, so the the effect applies. It’s not ideal when you want a combo like that, but the with the way the skills are designed it is working properly.

They could change the utility skill to function like the trait version of arcane power, but that could potentially be OP.

In general, Charr might be more suspicious of magic. It’s less malleable and predictable than iron and steel. But once you’ve proven yourself to be a reliable soldier, no one is going to fault you for how you going about things. The same judgements would be applied to an the quality of an engineer or a warrior. And really, the bonds between ‘bandmates are so tight that they’ll have your back anyway.


The main issue with your sire in the “sorcerous shaman” quest line is that he’s still with the Flame Legion.

Obviously the magnitude of the effects would have to be checked for balance, but I really like the idea of incorporating attunement swapping into the skill.

Please don’t take the comments of a few to reflect Borlis Pass as a whole. So far this match up has been the best yet, and the closest by far. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it ends. We might finally see a real push for the finish this time around.

The barricades were only there as a means to slow/stop pushes into our own borderlands while we fortified, not for easy kills. I wouldn’t think to to see it much as the match goes on.

Perhaps not the most tasteful tactic, but a fair enough one I think. Most of you here should know it’s not that difficult to overrun siege sitting in an open field with a focused push. Better yet, go around and hit the emplacements from behind. And yes, you could also slip out through the two side exits.
