Would really like to see this addressed as well. Testing whether or not I’m still trapped by running my face into an invisible wall is less than enjoyable.

I will say this again do your research, get a DH friend to put the elite on you and you would see that there is a tiny ring of lights holding you in and knocking you down known as a ward. You can not move so counterpressure or pop stab and walk right out

And I’m saying that they’ve “reduced visual noise” too much for this. It’s barely visible in many situations.

But if you see the giant dragon jaw then you know there is a barrier. I don’t understand the issue

Well for one, you don’t have to be in the trap when it triggers to get disrupted by it. If you arrive late to a fight and don’t see the original maw, you can still trip over it.

I don’t understand why you would have a problem with a more distinct effect.

Would be nice if Warhorn had a RTL equivalent on air skill 4, like if you teleported into the cyclone.

THe ball from the ball lightning (warhorn air 5) should chain into a skill that lets you teleport to it. It does pitiful damage anyway might as well give it some mobility.

This is a super cool idea!

Pitiful damage? You realise that it hits 12 times against single targets? What are you even taking about?

When did you get 12 hits on a target out of that thing? Every enemy easily sidesteps it or the orb itself moves out of range of them after like… 3-4 shots.

If RTL was made ground targeted with it’s current effective radius, the CD shenanigans would HAVE to go. Trying to anticipate a moving enemy at max range with a circle that small would be incredibly frustrating.

The cooldown on RTL is still the most absurd part. Sure, any comparison between skills of different classes needs to be taken with a grain of salt. But it’s ridiculous to consider that no one else has their gap closer set on a double CD when it’s negated by invuln, block, dodge, or range.

Also, Warhorn fire #4 should only share boons eles can produces themselves. Might only would be severly underpowered and all boons seems op because of quickness and alacrity from others.

That said, a glassier D/D build with fresh air does work well in situations where you’re able to reset, such as small group roaming in WvW. You can go in with heavy burst, then maintain high super speed uptime and steady damage by constantly rotating back to air.

Warhorn

  • Tidal surge feels slow and awkward. The animation feels out of sync with the actual knockback effect. It could also probably benefit from a small range increase.
  • Lightning orb feels very ineffectual. You can’t hit an enemy with more than a handful of attacks before they leave it’s range, either because they walked away or because the orb itself just passed. Would be much better if the orb impacting an enemy had an effect.
  • Dust storm is awkward to use because it’s very hard to tell where it’s effective area is. And from what I have been able to see, it could stand to be a bit larger, or at least spread much faster.

Shouts

  • They really, really need to be insta-cast. When the core mechanic of the spec requires long channels, the utilities for the spec should have synergy with it.
  • Feel the Burn feels underwhelming. The fire aura and low CD is nice, but a single stack of burn and the pitiful damage make it unstatisfying.
  • Flash Freeze suffers from a similar problem.
  • Eye of the Storm is our stunbreak, but just having some superspeed doesn’t do much to prevent us from getting locked down again. A shocking aura would help.
  • Aftershock’s long cooldown, low damage, and short root make it feel like a bad alternative to signet of earth. Being insta-cast would help significantly.

Overloads

  • Stab on overloads makes them usable. If it were baseline, it would allow more build options.
  • Water overload being locked out for 5 seconds is painful. If I’m a healing ele, I need to be able to react quickly when my allies get hit. I found myself not wanting to leave water just so that my heals and cleanse were actually ready when they were needed.

Traits

  • Latent stamina’s effects feel weak and out of place. Small amount of vigor and endurance on a sizable ICD. The only attunement specific trait in the entire line.
  • Earthen proxy feels unrewarding. If it had some other interaction with protection or gave it somehow, it might be better.
  • Elemental Bastion’s heal scaling could be better.

Auras In General

  • It still feels frustrating that we have aura traits spread across every single traitline.
  • We also have the issue of powerful auras and tempest, while being both essential to any auramancer build, stepping all over each other. Powerful auras is sharing auras out to allies, but so are shouts, and you receive no benefit whatsoever from using them together.

Whatever got pushed out in this latest patch is preventing people who were tagged up before the patch from getting back into the game.

Yup. A friend and I were messing around with tags and squads, attempted to map into WvW, then DC’d and are unable to get back in. So far the others in TS who weren’t tagged don’t seem to be having issues.

A unique mechanic that was introduced with Tempest which changed the effect of a boon

Not quite unique. Thieves with the acrobatics line make their own vigor +75% endurance regen, and revenants with roiling mists in invocation make their personal fury give +40% crit chance. Revs also have a trait in herald that gives an extra stack of stab whenever they get stab.

They killed the old Auramancer because it required too many lines to be effective in the simplistic “3 lines” system compared to partial traits in the old system (IE: 20 fire, 10 air, 10 earth, 30 water). You have One with Fire (Fire), Zephyr’s Boon (Air), Elemental Shielding (Earth), and Powerful Auras (Water). When you throw on the fact that they got rid of Signet generation as well it left you with very few ways to generate auras.

Aura traits are still spread out into every single line. Two in fire/air/water, one in earth/arcane, and three in tempest.

Overload Air will imbue allies with electricity, giving them the Static Charge buff. An ally with this buff will deliver a Lightning Jolt to the first enemy they strike.

Question: Is the lightning jolt counted as our attack, or the ally’s? Would be nice if it took our stats and showed up as our like a venom share thief.

The fifth skill is Thunderclap, which is appropriately Thor-like. Players reach into the sky and use the hammer to call down bolts of electricity that stun enemies and deal damage over time, as well as leaving a pulsing lightning field at the point of impact. We cannot wait to see this one in action.

From the mmorpg.com preview today. Puts me in mind of Tempest’s air overload, except maybe a little more worth casting.

No, it’s too powerful in its current form. You can stack crazy amounts of low duration boons (e.g. quickness/resistance) for your party in seconds. It’s crazy OP currently.

Signet of inspiration has the same CD, range, and function as heat sync. And the signet can be cast twice through a trait or four times on a chronomancer.

Can we please look at increasing the speed at which dust storm spreads, as well as giving clearer indicators for its effective area? The same is definitely true for tidal surge as well. The delay before the knockback can even occur, and the pitiful range make it awkward to use.

I also feel like even with these changes overloads are still likely to be very underwhelming, but I suppose we’ll have to see.

I don’t really feel like my money spend on the expansion was flushed due to a single bad elite specialization for what is already arguably the most powerful class in the game…

I don’t feel like I’ve wasted my money either, but people really need to stop toting the ele’s strength as justification for a poor elite spec. The devs should be more than capable of creating something that is viable and fun to play without breaking class balance. Expecting less is ridiculous.

Breakbars are Undertuned

  • The Elementalist’s Overload Earth is actually EASIER to interrupt than Overload Air, Water, or Fire. The reason for this is that Chill, Cripple, Blind, and Immobilize take a rather large chunk of Breakbar Health. I’ve been interrupted on my Overload Earth more than anything else because enemies used Soft CC and broke my Breakbar.

Of course, the soft CC. I was wondering why mesmers were eating straight through my breakbar on my revenant tonight, and I suppose it’s because one good shatter is going to apply 4 instances of blind. Maybe cripple as well if they’re traited for it.

Definitely sounds like an improvement. Payout for either outcome. Seems like the big thing would be the timeframe for lethal damage. Hopefully this version doesn’t have a delay before the shout takes effect. =P

Would replacing the zerker pieces with soldiers work? Just to add some more tough and vit.

It would, though you might want to shift the build more towards power and away from ferocity. If you can’t guarantee the crits then it’s not worth as much.

You really don’t have to be afraid of using high damage.The meta has always leaned towards bunker and sustain, but it’s certainly not the only way to play the weapon set.

Setting aside the fact that guards have had AoE stun break for ages… The mechanic is incredibly situational and requires either immediate of communication from your group or premonition levels of foresight on your part in order to actually have any effect. And even if you manage to react quickly enough, you might have the great satisfaction of ending a 2s stun after it’s been on your ally for 1.5s.

Next to that I would like to point out that elite specs are not about bringing in a huge special mechanic that wows you, but rather a different playstyle.

I’m sorry, but when they’ve managed to introduce multiple playstyles within individual specializtions (looking at the 3 distinct lines you can see within the reaper/berzerker/dare-devil/etc traits), the failure to do more than mediocre support through tempest is underwhelming.

Last time we tested it (all be it some time ago at this point) it would not brake stun the trick thought about braking stuns vs having stab up is that it save stab ability for when your trying to go though a lot of hard cc. What it dose is counter early one shot stuns.

Ah, I see what you were saying. Yeah, some preemptive stab is good with enough duration to give a decent window. Tempest doesn’t have that either though.

It would be funny if the main mechanic for one of the spec’s GM traits as well as one of the utilities just flat out didn’t work though.

Tempest dose have the abitly to give there pt stab with WH fire 4 and AoE. So its a self stun brake then a pt stun brake and a stab, protection.

So our AoE stun break (GM trait investment) is only truly effective every 75s when we can cover it by popping and sharing our own armour of earth? Which becomes even more mandatory if you want this combo?

C’mon man. It’s possible, but it’s hardly reliable or quick. Nor does it accomplish anything that couldn’t be done easier by a guard. The original point of the thread was new and interesting tech/mechanics that the tempest would bring to the table, and this is not it.

It just strikes me as odd how the tempest has so few build options, particularly with regards to traits. In most of the other elite specs you can see three clear lines along the traits that open up different playstyles. Often through a power, condie, and defense option. With tempest it’s kinda just support, support, support. And certainly none of it is so drastic as changing the core functionality of basic mechanics like the dare-devil’s dodges.

Also still bugs me how the name is so out of sync with the the playstyle that they’ve developed for the spec. A tempest is by definition a violent storm, and the spec is so heavily focused around healing and support. But I suppose that’s a tangent.

I ask because before the last event I stocked up on runes/sigils/food/etc that weren’t being provided in the gear chests to test with. But it seems like I’ll need more, and a wider range, for BWE2.

I ask because before the last event I stocked up on runes/sigils/food/etc that weren’t being provided in the gear chests to test with. But it seems like I’ll need more, and a wider range, for BWE2.

You say that like it does look nice… There are handful of “OK” effects, but nothing really seems to have the polish and shine of the revenant or even many of the other elite specs.

They need to work on some things, but I don’t expect final pass on animations and effects from the first showing. They can continue to improve on these things as development continues. They have a solid foundation though.

And not to mention that warhorn skills still sound very much the same as every other warhorn skill.

And that they’ve already said that they are working on new ones, but that doesn’t matter because it’s not nownownow and baby needs his toy now!

Source? Much of what I’ve read recently has said that animations/art/sound is the hardest part to change. Which would suggest it’s not the last thing to be finished, and would be why they’ve been leaning much more towards tweaking numbers in hopes achieving balance.

Which for me means you don’t care about efficiency of tempest but that it looks “nice”. Surprise, surprise, you have it.

On top of that we have a bunch of recycled animations. Fire overload is the same old spin from dagger storm or axe 5. Lightning overload is that point-your-arm-in-the-air from mass invis. The bubble from water overload is straight off a quaggan tonic.

And not to mention that warhorn skills still sound very much the same as every other warhorn skill.

I’ve tried a full dire ele. Undead runes, condi stacks, guard stacks, sigil of bursting, and both the fire and earth traits to boost condi damage. Sitting at 2,695 condi damage with no might. I hit an engi with a 6.2k burn tick.

Some of those Charr hairstyles look like they strangled a large rat, left it in a barrel of water for a few weeks, then tied a rope around it and strapped it to their head.

Personally I think it would be neat if air 3 was made a two stage skill. So that you can detonate it during its travel time to knock people back. Adding a blast finisher as well would likely be overkill though.

being able to summon the shield faster is all you really need to make it great

Honestly, I kind of think that anyone verbally abusing the guy over his experience level is proving exactly the reason why they wouldn’t be a good fit for the position. He’s suppose to remain objective and relay feedback. Typically that requires some level of tact.

But regardless, he volunteered for this and was chosen. If you want any positive results at all, help the guy do what he’s here to do. Don’t drive him off.
