Check out this thread from last week. It’s kind of hilarious to see this thread now, and I think it highlights the exact point made in the linked thread that for PvE they’re both fine (PvP power is probably better right now, but it doesn’t matter because there’s zero sunk cost to changing builds in PvP).
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Condi-engi-not-worth-it/
They’re both fine, as in, both subpar compared to an ele DPS wise. Utility wise, we don’t bring anything special. I’m sure glad our lord and savior Anet made us the masters of super speed and conditions but forgot to tweak raid bosses around that fact.
Realistically, the only raid boss where you’d justify bringing and engi over an ele is VG.
I’m not trying to enforce the meta, I hate it, but it is what it is.
(edited by Krag.6210)
I wanted to try raids and joined a learning group and they said the zerk ascended gear I spent hundreds of gold on over the course of several weeks is worthless to which I asked if I could change the stats to condi since that’s the new PvE meta and they said no don’t bother Engi is worthless except for one boss. They really hurt my feelings. PvE elitists are the biggest bullies. #bullyzoid
Power Scrapper is better than Condi Viper on Vale Guardian, Slothasor, Bandit Trio and Matthias, basically anything that moves or cleanses.
Of course that changes depending on your raid composition, you may need condi classes for VG and several necros will benefit a lot from your condis on Sloth/Trio/Sabetha.
The engi will have to nail a strong rotation with an enemy that doesn’t walk out of fire fields to get around 26k, whereas the thief just autoattacks and dodges a bit to hit 31k, you’re talking about a 16+% difference in damage that only gets greater when mechanics or user error cause the engi dps to suffer a lot more.
I hope you’re not basing your entire observation on unrealistic numbers.
And I was just done with both collections…
Way to make all that hard work feel meaningless.
Why did you have to say you were fine with people using the exploit? Simply confirming it as an exploit would have been enough for people to get scared and stop using it.
Speaking about those achievements, it would be a good idea to add a little plate in your buff bar like in living world personal instances to know when the achievement is still valid.

Fix this, there are whole parts in some dungeons where bomb kit simply doesn’t work at all.

There’s one on metabattle, it’s called power grenadier and is the current meta for general pve things that aren’t high level fractals or raids.
Looks like Rocket Boots instead of Flamethrower Kit is a good choice if you need to quickly move around in a fight (ex: Matthias), not a huge dps loss.
I’m actually surprised to see Flamethrower Kit being the worst one given how hard it is to get the cooldown right and have the bosses stand in the aoe for its whole duration.
Just ask someone to let you in the cleared instance so you can see for yourself how much LORE there is instead if ruining any chances of ever having tidbits of story put in raids ever again.
It takes barely 8-12 hours of practice all in all to complete a raid wing the first time. You don’t even have to do it all in a week if you find a casual raiding guild.
Then around 3 hours max to run it weekly and that’s being generous because it’s more like 1H-1H30.
I’m sure you can find the time OP. Stop throwing some random numbers around. It doesn’t take a dedicated team of neckbeards playing 10 hours a day to clear a raid wing.
Composition makes almost no difference in stronghold
Well, except for when a team has those druid/tempest that can pretty much keep the first pack of doorbreakers alive to whole time unless focused by the whole team.
I think boon duration and healing affecting the doorbreakers should be heavily reduced, else the game becomes way too class dependent.
Just won 500-400 something against a sapphire-ruby-diamond team and everyone in my team lost 2 pips.
Come on, Stronghold is the only reason I still care about pvp.
I agree with the OP, raid rewards are pretty underwhelming.
There are so many other ways to make gold that take less time/effort/money it’s not even funny.
But for me, the ultimate middle finger is not getting the max amount of weekly tokens for clearing the wing, not only clearing the raid gives you no token advantage over someone who never got past the first boss, but you also need to wipe again and again to get your weekly 105.
Before the update, the HOPE legendary had a really chrome/shiny metallic texture and now it looks pretty bland and simple. What happened?
It still looks fine in the preview window.
Seems there’s no launcher update for the 64bit version yet…
You should probably stop joining groups asking for zerker only and gearchecks, in my three years of running dungeons, I never had to ping my gear a single time when running pug groups even though I’ve always been running zerker or viper/sin.
Never seen anyone ask for gearcheck in an open world event EVER, so either you’re extremely unlucky or you picked the worst lfg on purpose.
As for raids, just forget about those, it’s either adapt or give up, there’s a requirement for very specific roles and anyone running suboptimal build or not playing at its absolute best is pretty much dead weight.
I don’t want to be mean, but either you stop joining that 1/10 group that obviously doesn’t want you from the start and pick any of the other lfg that don’t care about gear or you try to adapt to the trend of running full zerk just so you can join the most autistic groups ever.
All in the title, the other HoT legendaries are probably affected as well.
Pft, just tried to go back and do more of these so can finish my mastery…and lo and behold they were all locked in every zone. Fun times. When I leave this game it will be due to these things.
Actually, most of them are open most of the time. AB and TD ones are only closed during the final meta event.
The adventures are great and there are many other ways to get your mastery points.
Even then, if you can’t get at least silver after a couple of tries, you really should consider stepping up your game.
We got it down to 33% where there’s another phase of ghosts slowly moving toward the boss that you have to kill but this time with a lot of dark orbs everywhere.
So far, it seems the only way to improve is to go all out on dps ALL THE TIME. You shouldn’t need more than one updraft to reach 66%, and then same thing to reach 33% before the orbs get super huge, survive that and you’re left with enough time to finish him and pretty much done, or so I’d like to think.
I’ll let you figure out the best way to optimize your dps.
Dive spot at the end of the SW jp or Secret garden Dive spots in Mount maelstrom.
I know it’s a non-issue but it’s been bothering me ever since I first saw it.
What do you think of the new Scrapper icon?
I feel that it doesn’t really fit the Scrapper, sure it’s got a hammer, but the icon doesn’t feel engi-like at all. I liked the sawblade icon from the beta much better plus other specializations have a more thematic icon and not just one focused on their new weapon.
TD is my favorite map and DS my most hated, it feels just like another generic Sw meta with nothing but zerging and a cool final bossfight.
I got 150 by spamming the debug node Anet left behind.
Gonna need a picture of that.
Was it just a reward chest inside the meta chest? How many others acquired it in your instance? Was your map full?
It was a Bladed Coat Box inside the side chest, I believe everyone with max participation got one and the map was capped.

Can confirm it drops from Tier 4 Verdant Brink, just got one from a successful night time map.
In tangled depths, the event chain with the SCAR warband bugs at the part where you have to defend the scrap cannon against waves of mordrems, there is no progression whatsoever and the event doest stop until the mapwide meta event starts.
There’s no way to play the drone race adventure until this is fixed.
Another bug that might happens a lot if you play condis are the illusions dying from the damage before you can suck them into the rift, bugging the entire fight and forcing you to die and restart.
We don’t know what’s going to be required for raids yet except for the first boss.
So far, it seems the best way to go is sinister condi dps with the usual build OR, if you’re acting as the “tank”, same build with Tools swapped for Scrapper so you get that stacking toughness trait and keep the aggro even in full sinister assuming the rest of your squad isn’t stacking toughness.
Doesn’t mean the hammer and a more tanky stat spread won’t be required for the following bosses, it simply isn’t of much use from what we’ve seen so far.
Also yeah, condi and hammer won’t work well together I think.
For raids, I’d prepare 4 sets of ascended gear:
Zerker, Sinister for DPS
Knight, Dire for Tanking with either Hammer or P/P, P/S
(edited by Krag.6210)
Random clip I saved. You can clearly see how long the block from skill 4 lasts at 0:16.
I found Scrapper to be amazing as wvw roamer. Now, not everything about scrapper is but the things that are really get the job done.
The hammer is obviously the best thing.
AA damage is not that important since you won’t be using it that often unless you’re really out of skills and trying to cleave a group of players trying to res their friend.
Skill 2 does crazy damage, I think it hits twice and it was mostly around 5-6k with zerker gear.
Rocket charge is kinda clunky until you get used to it being that way, it’s just as unpredictable for you as it is for the enemy, making them waste their dodges and gicing you a guaranteed hit, damage isn’t bad, around 2-3k per hit.
Skill 4 is an aftercast block, hard to use properly but ultimately saved me multiple times, good damage too.
Thunderclap is amazing, drop it like you would a supply crate and rocket charge in, people will have no idea what’s got to them.
I didn’t try the gyros much as they don’t sound interesting AT ALL to me, only sneak gyros seems to work great since it’s an instant stealth and if it manages to stick around you during a fight, you’ll pop in and out of stealth pretty much like a thief except good.
Function gyro is your best friend in an outnumbered situation, no need to secure your stomps with this little guy, he does it for you.

Did anyone mention the aiming bug with the flamethrower auto and elixir gun 3?
Before the big class update, you couldn’t aim your flamethrower into the ground even with your camera right on top but it keeps happening now.
To reproduce, pan your camera higher than your shoulders, spam your FT1, run forward and hold right click.
Nightmare runes and Bursting sigil.
Zerk performs better on 80% of the bossfights because of cleansing, invul, or simply the target moving to much to keep your condis running.
It’s fun but you should keep it for a different armor since it’s best to use whichever build works best depending on the situation.
Who cares about Quartz, bring back Pieces of Zhaitaffy!
I paid 1k gold for the rifle, it would kill me if they brought back the skins. Limited supply is how you make an item truly unique.
^
Pretty much this, you might want to consider grenades (or bombs) instead of FlameThrower as your primary source of damage.
The cookie cutter dungeon engi build makes full use of Nade/FT/EG or Nade/Bombs/EG depending on situations.
I remember when Taq was first introduce, 1/10 events were successful. Once you killed him it felt good. Before the HP buff it was just a grind, “oh lets go kill Taq…again”, no challenge. Now it feels much better.
No it doesn’t, nothing’s changed except it takes longer to kill, taking twice as long to do something that was mastered long ago and already done ad nauseum is not fun and certainly not “hardcore” like OP would like to believe.
Killing world bosses is already a chore and it just got worse, if they want to make them harder, it’s new mechanics that they need.
Really seems like Anet is trying to push engineers in close combat. Maybe they want to prepare things for the new melee oriented elite spec? We got several traits with very small radius or some triggering when standing really close to the enemy.
Engis were always somewhere between melee and mid range, just because you could throw nades from afar didn’t mean you were supposed to play that way.
Mortar is still your super long range option if you ever need that range, they should even give it a deadzone of like 500 so that it doesn’t compete with kits that are made for close and mid range.
I wish Kit refinement was an “only during combat” trait and that the mortar gunk would be replaced by something else because all it does is kitten up fire fields in pve.

Some Chrome users, including myself are having issues reaching the GW2 website.
The current workaround is to force Chrome to avoid using TLS 1.2 by adding —ssl-version-max=tls1.1 at the end of your Chrome shortcut.

And this is what I meant with “bad timing”. I still don’t think that the prank itself is bad , i just wish they would have waited with it.

You can’t stack Tomes of Knowledge acquired in pvp with the ones from pre-patch.
Hi,
Since yesterday, I couldn’t access the whole GW2 website using the Google Chrome browser even though I didn’t do any changes to my computer or anything.
I had to manually force Chrome to avoid using the TLS1.2 protocol to make the website show up again by adding —ssl-version-max=tls1.1 to my Chrome shortcut.

I’ve been playing my engi for a long time now and I thought it was in my head at first but is anyone else getting mad aggro when playing engi in dungeon?
It’s easy to tell, every single target mob loves my butt.
