Hard Mode

I have a better suggestion, an idea that came a long time ago in a different context.
I’m a roleplayer and a thing I would like is to use game events and ennemies in roleplay. But when you are 20 it’s worthless to consider each single wolf because he’s instantly obliterated… The idea meet yours.

+ Level adjustement customization
Currently when in a low level zone, our levels are automatically adjusted. (and it’s a wonderful mechanism to play with friends of various level.)
A new option give the ability to setup the level adjustment from 0 (same as actually), to 10 levels of difficulty.

Example : I’m with my 80 in an area where monsters are level 41, I’m automatically down to level 42, but I want a bit more difficulties so I set my adjustement to -3 and instantly my level became 39.

It make fight harder for people like you and for roleplayers in group they can set their level to be threaten by monsters.

My opinion about UI is that it must be qualitative and not quantitative.

Having numbers is disguting to me. If an ennemi is veteran, elite, champion or legendary, it must be seen by his appearence (special skin or bigger) and name, not by a number.
I remember of a charr branded warband in Iron swamp, the legionnaire had a more luminous cristaline skin.

Having numbers in the middle of the screen is also an unnecessary overload that will hide the game, letting player with numbers and only behind the true game.

I’m here to play to the game, not to read numbers in the middle of the screen. I want to see the game !

Lion’s arch have too many bonuses :

  • Center of the map
  • Free access across the Mists
  • Access to the Mists
  • Fractals
  • Portals to everywhere
  • Portals globally leading to Lion’s arch
  • Mystic Forge
  • Concentration of services (workshop, bank, auction house) easy to reach
  • Dungeon Armor Vendors
  • Activities
  • (Currently) Wintersday.

Other capitals seems dead. A rework of the other capitals in order to facilitate crafting by bringing closer workshop, auction house and bank is a first step to make them attractive. Adding exclusive services and content to other capitals will help to revive their usefulness and attractiveness.
With content like Queen’s Jubilee or bonuses moving from capital to capital, you can make people switch and visit them more often instead or standing comfortably in the same city every day.

The Bane in the Black Citadel can be used for a new world boss fight. A giant devourer with piercing stingshots applying poison & bleed, melee pinching, and an earthquake that knockdown people.

Divinity’s Reach can provide God blessings (not combinable) by interacting with a God statue for the current day (reset with dailies).

  • Balthazar : +100 Power
  • Dwayna : +100 Heal
  • Melandru : +100 Toughness
  • Grenth : +100 Condition Damage
  • Kormir : +5% Boon Duration
  • Lyssa : -5% Condition Duration

I don’t know what Rata Sum, Hoelbrak or The Grove can provide as bonus, service or activity. If you have any idea, write it !

The idea is that players have a reason to visit each capital once a day !

Racial capitals aren’t “pain in the rear to navigate” when you know them.
Rata Sum is the most practical because it’s a compact cube with symetrical floors.

I disagree that players have to go in their racial capital in order to craft.

Lion’s arch have too many bonuses :

The only things that you have not at Lion’s Arch is Ebonhawk and Fort Trinity portals.

Suggestions from players I’ll love to see :

The Grove. Use the pale tree and the dream to ‘see / participate’ in the living story steps or replay personal story parts (perhaps even choosing differently, though this wouldn’t affect your actual PS, just let you see more parts without creating another character of the same race). The pale tree actually does something similar to this for you and Trahearne in a story step. Doing it this way lets people select what they want to do. Want to do the Molten Facility? Don’t hope for a random fractal, put it here selectable in the Grove. Same thing for Aetherblade retreat. This would allow the living world / story to continue at whatever pace it wants without rushing and herding players from map to map. Players would be able to step in and out of the story without fear of missing anything.

~ GUILD HALLS #2 ~

+ Accessibility
A Guild Hall is split in two instances (same location and building main type). Public and private instances.
Guild members can go in the Public part freely, the private part access is managed by a new guild option in rank management.
The guild leader can also choose to use an access key generated by the game and unique. Anyone who give the access key at the guild hall entrance is allowed to enter in the public instance of the associated guild. The guild leader can ask for a new access key all time.

If the guild hall is “tavern like” or “shop like” or “hospital like”, the public part is open with the access key given and the private part is a dormitory.
If the guild hall is more private, the public part may be closed with no access key or the access key was given to a few people and the private part is reserved for the officers.

A free TP option is available to guild members that allow them to join the public part any time. Useful for low level members that can’t reach the guild entrance. And you will have two ways of leaving Guild Hall. By the entrance, you’re teleported in front of the portal. Or you can leave and reappear in Lion’s arch. The last option will prevent low level members to be killed when leaving, higher level member can use it too, it’s not different than the “teleport to the mists and take Lion’s arch portal” thing.

+ How to obtain a Guild Hall ?
Influence by the Architecture upgrade category !
Golds can be involved to unlock furnishing options or recruit NPC.

+ Features
Because Guild Hall need to be a little useful but without draining the world of its inhabitants, here we suggest some features Guild Halls can provide.
The innkeeper and workshops are a first thing that can be put in “features”.
Guild Halls should not allow members to teleport somewhere else than Lion’s arch and the entrance. No “dungeon TP”.

We have a suggestion that not directly provide a feature to Guild Hall but is related and will help to dispatch players in the world to make different regions more living.

+ Long term Guild missions

Currently, guild missions consist of making things with huge guild groups for a short amount of time.
Long term guild missions will consist of giving guild goals that can be reach only if many guild members help.
Missions will be weekly, randomly generated, guild specific, and proportional to the number of members.
Guild specific to dispatch guild goals in different regions, providing reasons to go there and life activity.
Proportional to discriminate involvement instead of member quantity. But rewards are partially proportional so you will not be wronged to have a big guild.

They’re one for each category “War”, “Exploration”, and “Economy”.
A few example of guild missions :

  • Art of War : Durmand priory want cristal shards from the branded for studying.
  • Art of War : Sparkly Fen is invaded by Skales, put an end to it.
  • Economy : Vigils are in short supply of iron ore, gather some for them.
  • Economy : Ebon vanguard want to replace worn gear and need new thick leather medium armors.
  • Exploration : Evon Gnashblade heard that a treasure is hidden in Goemm’s lab. Help him by exploring the area and he’ll help you, perhaps.

Example for the jumping puzzle mission, it has to be done one time for each member of the guild. But if someone love jumping puzzle and do it four time in the week, it matters. But he can’t do the whole guild mission alone.

Linked to the Guild Halls, the gathered/crafted items have to be given to the Guild Vault entrance by a “donation” feature to count for the global mission progression.

~ GUILD HALLS ~

Louveepine.7630 and me have discussed of Guild Halls and we came with plenty of basic elements that could make Guild Halls as customizable than our characters and practical ! They’re light elements, used in gameboy RPG that have some declinations and can be adapt to Guild Wars 2 to let us have a whole and flexible customization system. The proposed system and ideas can be use for Home instances too !

Thereafter, I will make adamant statement many times, but it’s because I suggest all of this the way my friend and me had imagined it. It’s of course up to Arena.net to pick what is relevant for them and improve it as they wish.

+ Location
First of all, the idea is to have different Guild Hall environment and landscapes.
It will also define where Guild Halls entrances were localized.
Each main city will have an interactive door/elevator for urban type Guild Hall.
Divinity’s Reach, Hoelbrak, Black Citadel, Rata Sum, The Grove, and Lion’s Arch.

Alternatively, it will have isolated entrances in each region type : Maguuma Jungle, Shiverpeak, Krytian temperate area, Charr savanna. With two declinations for each : plain and mountain.
And from Lion’s arch port an island location.

So we have fifteen locations. New ones can be add to make more declinations.

+ Building
We have the location, the second part is to select a building type.
Building type exist for each races with some declinations in parenthesis.
Declinations are separated between floor, walls and roof.
Note : It’s only the building (floor and walls), the inside is totally empty.

  • Human fortress (stone, wood, chipped stone)
  • Human house (Can end in noble manor or notorious tavern depending of texture choices)
  • Norn Lodge (Classic, Bear, Wolf, Panther, Crow, Svanir)
  • Asuran krewe (Synergetics, Dynamics, Statics, Inquest)
  • Sylvari vegetal building (Dream or Nightmare)
  • Sylvari isolated grove area (Dream or Nightmare)
  • Charr fortress (Iron, Blood, Ash or Flame)
  • Charr camp (Iron, Bloodn Ash or Flame)
  • Caves ! (Mossy, Iced or Dark. Best for bandit guilds)

Nine buildings categories, many declinations, more can be added in future.

+ Special Guild Halls
Special guild halls could be reachable from Lion’s arch port : ships of every races ! A dashing Human three-masted, an heavy Charr ironclad, a proud Norn drakkar, a vegetal Sylvari ship, and an Asuran hovercraft.
An ultimate ship could be unlocked from Fort Trinity : the Pact Airship like the Glory of Tyria.

These special Guild Halls are “Buildings” with sea/air linked environments.

At this point, we already have hundreds possibilities.

+ Furnishing
Now that we have the building, I will tell you about the furnishing !
Do you remember of old gameboy games like Pokémon or Zelda ? Gameboy cartridges have a little memory but they have stored a complete world inside. Guild Halls aren’t a whole world so it will take a “few” memory capacity to store a tile-based housing system.

One tile is roughly the size of a character (a big Charr of course).
Guild Halls start with 4 tiles by 8 (example). And it can be increased by the guild leader, adding a row of tiles in X and Y axis in exchange of influence and/or money.

Each tile can be manage to be occupied by a furniture. Table, chair, bar, fireplace, wardrobe, bookcase, weapon rack, armor dummy, plants. These elements have different declinations ordered by race.
In addition of these declinations, elements may have a direction. So we can make a tavern bar by putting a row of bar tiles. With a row of beds and curtains we can make an hospital or a dormitory. Beds are two tiles long with a “head” and “foot” part correctly oriented.

+ Interactivity
Some elements may be interactive : bed, chair, stool, bench…
By clicking on an empty bed, the character jump on the bed and use the sleep emote correctly oriented.
These elements can be count as siege weapon. For example a stool have four skills. By using one I can face a specific direction and can drink at the bar or looking back and talk.

+ Special “Furnishing”
With guild influence, special furnishing can be bought that will add life to a guild hall : NPC !
You want a tavern like hall ? Buy an innkeeper of the race and gender you want ! With the facing option it will be correctly oriented. The innkeeper is a merchant that allows guild members to sell junk and buy tools or salvage kits.

Also this is a list of decorative NPC purchasable :

  • Norn Chaman of the [select spirit]
  • Norn Master of the Lodge
  • Charr Soldier of the [select legion]
  • Charr Gladium
  • Sylvari (Gardener, Valiant or Courtier)
  • Asura Krewe assistant/member
  • Asuran Golem (7-Series, D-Series, Assistant, Hazmat suit)
  • Human Priest of [select god]
  • Human Soldier/Worker/Farmer

Also special furnishing can be a Guild vault entrance or craftsmanship workshop and a material vendor NPC.

You can already solo. It’s called a RPG without the MMO prefix that imply that the game is intended to be play with people.

Otherwise, every profession can solo a part of the game content.

And I disagree. Forcing people to do A so they can do B is rarely a good way to motivate people.

People are forced to level up to make dungeons, fractals, unlock trait points.
People are forced to level up craftsmanship to make ascended items.
People are forced to get armor and weapons before fighting.
People are forced to gather Skill Points to unlock skills.
People are forced to buy 5 skills of the previous tiers to unlocked the next tiers.
People are forced to fill heart to unlocked the karma vendor option.
People are forced to make Racial Personal Story before Order Personal Story before Pact Personal Story.

If you want to make Order Quests, it’s not offending to have to choose an Order as prerequisite.

If you can make every Order quest without being of the Order, you destroy the purpose of these Order Quests that is to make you involved in your Order plans/duties/plots. So the answer is : Yes, you need to have joined an Order.

You join an Order with the level 30 quest, It’s not hard. If people don’t want to join an Order/make their Personal Story, It’s a way to motivate them.
It’s a way to make our choices meaningful on long term !

Please, don’t quote me when you’ve read diagonnally and missed the most important thing about my post that it is a list of things to NOT add to the game.

Do not ask for Holy Trinity ! Having DPS with support/berzerker/tough/control orientation is better in many way.

And a DPS meter is BAD ! There are many things useful in fight that can’t be translate in DPS. Heal, surviving, boost, control, rescue mates, manage mechanism, kite mob, protect mates. The game is sweatly design that you can’t sum a fight to a calculated value. But it’s what other players will do if meters are implemented !

I’m very fan of the idea of Order Quests ! Developing Living Story plots, giving additionnal informations.
It will be a nice improvement of the Nightmare tower toxic offshoot destruction events when you have to help a random order : Whisper bombs, Vigil mortars, Priory Hazmat suit.

I dream that Vigils have to defend themselves and their supplying roads or cut ennemies reinforcement/supplying, pick pockets corps and investigate.
Whispers Order have to go sneaky and stealthy in ennemy’s camp to steal some papers, investigate and track.
Help the Priory to understand ennemies weapons and tools, test things, or gather material and data to study.

But Daily Order Quest is too short content to be interesting. It will monopolize efforts for fast consumed content. Or it will be like Dailys : generic and tasteless content.

Personally I’d love mounts. Waypoints take away the sense of having a HUGE world in front of you imho. The reason why they added waypoints (? correct me if I’m wrong) is the fact that you should be able to play with your friends whenever you log on.

My solution to this would have been: A player should be able to summon his friend/s at any time to any place (once an hour).
And 1 waypoint per zone (at the entrance of that zone).

A mount is an awesome prestige object with a lot of potential for horizontal progression. I’m against flying mounts, but groundmounts are just a part of a fantasy world imho.

It’s also against time sink travel. The other day a friend show me some jumping puzzles in different locations. If we haven’t waypoints, we had lost more than two hours of traveling. It would bothered us and she didn’t show me more than two.

I’m also a roleplayer, we use specific places suitable for our needs because others exist but aren’t fitting to roleplay because they’re infested by monsters with too fast respawn timers or aren’t visitable out of personal story quests. Waypoints are used to switch our location faster and save time. It can be helpful to save 2 hours in a 5 hours roleplay session which otherwise will take 7 hours and let us go to bed at 3 AM.

Huge world doesn’t mean you have to waste time when you just want to reach some location. It don’t make the world huge, but boring.

Can cause unbalanced side effect. If a player invest all his points in power he can shoot anyone in one hit. if one invest all in toughness, he can’t take any damages and be nearly immortal.

I come here with a top 5 things that shouldn’t be added to the game.

+ Mounts
Asura’s waypoints is faster and enough. It will prevent overloading issues and NPC obstruction too. Also, it feel more appreciable to me to see my character go afoot in his journey, dodging and fighting ennemies instead of running like a steamroller across countries without looking at the landscape. We’re adventurers and the world is so rich and beautiful ! And it can be enrich

+ Tank & Healer roles
Boring as hell for at least one role and cleaving players. “You can’t join us you’re not a [insert role]”. And when solo, tank & healer are boring, taking hours to kill an ennemy with no challenge because you are the ultimate front-liner or can heal every wound.

+ Subclasses
Trait/Weapon choice is a better customization mechanism. I find more valuable and interesting to ask for improvements than imposed game style. Weapon skill selection, new utilities and traits. The new heal skill go this way.

+ Manichaeism
Shining and righteous heroes against the terrible bad and so dark villains… So tasteless… I put manichaeism in the same box than Mary Sueism : the garbage can.
Shades of grey is more interesting, adding depth to a story. And it can provide a base for future content. And not only for NPC, us player can benefit of questionnable choices.

+ New Races/Classes
Arena.net already have difficulties to give time to every race and manage each class. Asking for new ones when they can’t take care of the existing ones will be regrettable if implemented.
When Arena.net have the ability to develop lore and story for every races, new ones can be considered, but not currently.
Also, new classes mustn’t be implement for satisfaying the “new class” envy, but to add a completely non-existent and solid gameplay mechanisms.

Female Charrs are not “fancy pretty” Humans. No perfume, no sweet fruity dresses.
They don’t wear gorgeous clothes, it’s more practical. Also, Charrs criteria aren’t Humans. A beautiful Charr is strong, a fierce warrior with tough muscles under skin for both gender.

It’s not a “trinity of DPS”.
Every character in GW2 is a DPS with a choiced orientated playstyle.
You can make a powerfull fighter that carry his friend by his own power, an altruistic support that give boons, heal and cleanse to his mates, a tactic master who control the field… You can mix these as you wish without a mold that restrain you. “You’re the healer, be weak, unbeatable and boring as hell by extending fight duration”

You can already make a healer/supportive oriented character, but the game is quite well done and there’s no need of a dedicated one to heal with counterpart of make them unthreatening with a so low DPS that they win fights by boring ennemies…

Hi!

I’m here to talk about the Chat UI that lack of readability a bit.
There’s some things I can suggest to improve the readability.

When many people are talking, especially roleplayers who make long texts or emotes, the readability fall drastically.
The tab mechanism is helpful by letting us dispatching channels, but it’s helpless when the flood is on the same channel.
Also, emotes are all grey with little contrast making a truly visible distinction between the end of an emote and the begin of an other. Especially when chat is flooded.

Please add a “Class colored” option for the /say and /emote that color people names with their class color, the text remaining white as snow or grey for emotes.

Also…

When you have a big resolution but not a huge screen, chat text is very small. The “big font” option just seem to make text “bolder” instead of “bigger” in my case.
It would be very helpful if we can select more font size until three or four times bigger.
Not only for those that have small screen with nice definition, but also for people with vision disorder or simply playing at a distance of their screen.

It’s not fear, but “character gameplay customization” is an enhanced subclasses mechanism. It’s better to ask an improvement of the current system than ask for a subclasses mechanism that will be bugged, add unbalancing side-effect, be less customizable, and frustrate you as much as the current system because you will want the weapon and the traits of differents subclasses.

It is in fact a sub class system.
Depending of the weapon you choose to use, you have different weapon skills, skill skin and combo available.
Depending of the traits you select, you improve or add effects to current class mechanism, orienting your utilities skill selection.

It’s better than classic subclasses system that allow only to use a specific setting of weapon and utility skills.

Player have already give name to the main subclasses types : Auramancer, Glass Cannon… You can make your own subclass in GW2 by selecting your weapons, traits and utility skills. It’s a great improvement of the subclasses classic system.

I’ve a better suggestion that can be more easy to implement.
The random attack when attuning to Air occur only if you’re already fighting.

I’ve the same query for the “Explosive rolling” warrior have with 5 in Strength trait line.
When I want to roll to avoid entering in fight, it’s infuriating that the final explosion make it useless.

Why an Asura warrior is laughable ? Every race need guards or front-liner. Asura are short, not weak. They have golems that can fit the role, but golems are stupid on purpose, because if they have their full IA potential, they’ll revolt. So they need Asura warriors with golems. Asura armor are specially crafted to fit their needs and don’t restrict their advantages. They have the knowledge to make resilient but light armors, making their warriors tough and quick with weapons sharper or more deadly for rifles than humans can craft.

Also your classes are just renamed existing professions with few changes that didn’t make them original. You can already do this in “roleplay” by picking the right profession.

  • The Inquisitor is a Necromancer without minions
  • The Bombard is a Warrior with a Charrzooka and Charr’s elite skills
  • The Dreamwalker is a Guardian
  • The Laureate is a Necromancer with Asura’s golem elite skills
  • The Penitent is a Warrior with a visually uncovering armor

I still think that the reason Scarlet is called a Mary Sue is because she is supposed to be the personel nemesis of the Player. An equal in power. And storywise the Player is a person who destroyed almost every evil/criminal organisation in Tyria in a few months and created the biggest and most powerful alliance in all of Tyria (the Pact).
So she has to be powerful or this whole fight just wouldn’t be fair.

It’s a bad escalation. You can’t counter a Mary Sue story with a Villain Sue.
You make a true villain, who win and loose. You make the hero loose and win too.

They made Rox with ugly big eyes to give her a “kitten” face. She’s really young. But as usual with Charrs, we didn’t know her age.

I want an official Charr life timeline with informations about at which age things happens.

Hi! I’m a french player and come here to compare our point of view. Some French RP players are tired of Scarlet and have many complains about her and Arena.net. I decided to come and talk to the English community to see if there is a convergenr point of view about her.

The thing is that the major issue with the Living World storyline is Scarlet.

Everything seems inconsistent with this character from the beginning. “Hi ! I learned the mysteries of the Universe with the College of Synergetics, technomagical with the College of Dynamics, architecture with the College of Statics, smithing with a Norn and mechanic with a Charr of the Iron Legion. It take me only one years for graduate in each. I worked with Inquest, who dislike other races and use them as slave and guinea pig, but they make an exception for me. I manipulated the Charrs of the Flame Legion, the Dredges, the Nightmare Court, the Kraits, the Inquest and some pirates to serve my supremely clever plans where everything goes well exactly as I had expected and against you can do absolutely nothing. You’re all my toys !

In the opinion of many French people is that Scarlet is just a Dark Mary Sue. It’s why so many players complain about her. Arena.net is rotting the lore with Scarlet. What next ? Savage Alliance with Skritt, Grawls and Centaurs ? Ice Alliance with Hyleks and Svanirs ? And after that the Mega-Alliance involving all the alliances ? They should stop the nonsense…

Guild Wars 2 it’s : Elders Dragons and minor threats (Centaurs, Svanirs, Inquest, Flame Legion, …) against the Orders and the five races.

French players want to see Living World content with these minor threats to remind their existence. Personnally, If I can see the Flame Legion put the Black Citadel under siege I will be very happy. Other Living World content about Elders Dragons to remind the threat they are on Tyria. Zhaïtan was killed and they don’t give a kitten ? And between these, festive content like the Mad King Thorn.

But please stop with Scarlet. she’s a failed character, coated in a poorly made escalation, with nonsense at all floors… Last exemple in mind, when at the top of the Nightmare tower she speak five minutes and leave nonchalantly and NO ONE MOVE… The biggest current threat on Tyria (ahead of these napping dragons) is in front of us, with no guards and no wall of bramble between us and no one try to kill her ? They’re heroes that climbed the Nightmare tower or molluscs ? It’s not because of well crafted plans that she’s unstopable, it’s because heroes don’t give a kitten to her when she’s around…

French RP players mostly ask Arena.net to kill her and let us forget this mistake with better Living World content instead of this growing bunch of crap stomping every piece of lore. No more Mary Sueism, please !

Collaborative Development- Request for Topics

I’m a RPlayer and I can’t conceive that RP (a third of MMORPG) are conceive as a PvE element… RP is an equivalent part of a MMORPG than PvE and PvP. So I will make both a RP Top and a PvE Top. I can’t talk about PvP, I never try.

RP Top :

  1. Environment interaction
  2. Lore (including Living World lore-side)
  3. Tools & Usable buildings for RPlayers (possibly Housing)

PvE Top :

  1. DoT Stack limitation
  2. Living World (as a temporary content)
  3. New Armor & Weapons Set more suitable to Charr character
