0% mf and 3 vials and only up to lvl 6. Last one was from the urban map.
the problem with the dungeons we have atm is that we have out geared them. do you guys remember when the forums was filled with threads like “nerf AC, it’s imb4”. yeah. if a post like that was made today we would just laugh at it at call the OP noob and l2p. that’s because back then we had like master crafted gear and a few rare and maybe 1 exotic. now 50% of the active players have at least 70% lvl 80 exotic gear and there is a ton of viable builds that people can only copy paste and do well with.
I agree with this. Way back when I remember being in groups that couldn’t finish CoF p1 or p2. And now CoF is on farm mode.
After doing a lot of dungeons a rediculous amount I really dont want a hard mode. I’d rather do new content OR revamped old content. Like if they took TA and redid some of it and put in new bosses.
I actually thought AC path 2 was easiest but its kind of splitting hairs between 1 and 2. I can understand you wanting to farm Arah for gear or whatever. I enjoyed just doing it because it was there and supposed to be the most difficult (which I think it really is). But you can’t really lump any of Arah in with the rest of those easy dungeons.
Been playing GW2 for some time now, and notice there is always easy paths and hard paths for each and every dungeons. Would like to know which paths are the easiest to farm their respective tokens. Can you guys give this newbie some guidelines?
For know I know that AC and CM all paths are relatively easy, so is CoF path 1 and 2. But if i want to farm tokens to get certain weapons or armors, which path should i go to get them?
AC : All Paths
CM : All Paths
TA : ?
SE : Heard Path 3 is the easiest.
CoF : Path 1 and 2
Hotw : ?
CoE : ?
Arah : ?, but heard path 4 is painful to finish
FOTM : Anything but the dredge miner.
Your right about AC dunno about CM never did it.
TA all paths are very doable but up/up is easiest. F/F isn’t hard at all either.
Hotw I hear all paths are doable and its all easy. P1 I think is the easiest.
Dunno about CoE.
Arah…. p3 is easiest but Lupicus can be a bugger if you dont know what your doing. The last boss in p3 requires some coordination but again if you know what your doing its no problem. The other paths take much more time.
Fotm… you get what you get there. I found it all easy…. but interesting.
I would like to find out why the dungeons are so hard. My guild and I have tried three of the dungeons and the creatures you have to fight just walk up to us and kill us. Guys i understand that the dungeons need to be a little harder but these are way to hard. We beat Zhitan and that was the easiest of them all. We went into cof the other day and the creatures in there walked allover us. Is there anyway you could tone them down a little.
It sounds like you were doing story modes? If so some story modes are harder than doing explore modes. And if everybodies gear isn’t up to par then you could end up with a lot of people downed. Thats just part of the game. Its not unusual for certain bosses to cause quite a few people to be downed.
Sometimes it helps to watch video’s of content. It also helps to look at your own characters. Many players will take pvp setups into pve and expect to do ok. Many players haven’t learned there class well enough to contribute to groups in pve. And a lot of people haven’t even learned how to dodge roll in pve yet. So maybe its not the content but the shortcomings of your group. It doesn’t get any easier than CoF p1. If your repeatedly wiping on that then the problem is your group.
Interesting that they required zerkers gear. Stuff in CoF dies so quickly I didn’t think it would be an issue but I guess you never can tell. Does running a CoF p1 in 6 minutes or running it in 7 minutes make any difference in the world…. when you come back out of CoF and the gate is contested? I’ve seen the gate close in as little as 4 minutes so…. maybe someone can help explain this to me?
Sorry to hear you got kicked. Its just my belief that even if they increase the required votes to 3 that it wont get rid of this issue. I’ve been fortunate it would seem and have never been kicked from a group.
I know this wont be a popular statement and its just my own personal opinion. I find GW2’s pve community to be the worst I’ve ever experienced in any MMO and I’ve played a bunch. There are so many rude and ignorant people in the game. Sometimes the elitists are among the worst offenders. My block list is huge and I usually turn the other cheek rather than let a rude player upset me.
I dont know how they handle this kind of griefing. I mean its pretty much a he said… they said… sort of thing right? Who can prove what?
Only advice I can offer is when it happens dont let it bother you just move on as quickly as possible. It has to really stink to get griefed this way but if you let it bother you then they win…… in a way.
… skipping has nothing to do with trying to finish the run faster and get more tokens/loot (I don’t really care that much, it’s not like there’s anything great to get). But why fight uninteresting and annoying trash when I don’t have to?
If it was more lucrative to clear trash then people would. There drops just aren’t there so it makes more sense to skip and get to bosses which are where the money is at.
Its been stated a lot on forums but trash mob drops aren’t worth the time it takes to clear them especially considering most of them have a lot of hp for trash. And people experienced in a particular dungeon dont have much difficulty skipping thru trash mobs. Sometimes it can get tricky in TA. I have an easier time getting past trash mobs in Arah than in a certain spot in TA.
I’m just trying to understand your question more. So you want an Ascended Amulet added to the game on Jan 28? in order words you want the AR cap to be raised to 40?
They already stated they’d be available on the 28th for Laurels but made no mention of adding them to the fotm vendor.
for Laurels…. what does that mean? I guess I missed something :P
I enjoy the Kohler fight and the cave troll is just a little bonus. I’m not sure whats more fun… fighthing Kohler or watching people get repeatedlly sucked into to his spinning move
I think you can interrupt his pull move. I just put feedback on him but the long cooldown allows me to do this only every other pull. I’m assuming a guardians WoR would negate his pull also…. although I rarely see many guardians even using WoR in pve! The only time I ever get pulled into Kohler anymore is when people are AoE’ing him like crazy and it gets to be nearly impossible to even see his animations. At which time you really have to stand close to him to look for his pull animation.
In general though I dont think bosses are hard at all in GW2 once you learn there attacks. Even Gigantus Lupicis, the hardest yet funnest boss in the game isn’t too hard once you’ve done him enough times. Maybe thats my fault because I’m thinking in terms of raid events from other mmo’s that require a larger group of people to do coordinated things during a longer event.
TA is a bit harder than CoF or AC. Can’t recommend trying Arah unless your ready for it. Definitely say “hey I’ve never done this boss before” most PUGs are happy to give advice before a boss. Watch video’s of the dungeon’s there are plenty of them. Buy level 80 gear, rare is great but at least have greens on. Its very cheap. Consider buying consumables. Some of them only cost a few copper! And lastly, have good patience. Your first runs in any new dungeon are likely to have some tough moments. Just roll with it because your 2nd run will be much easier.
5 times you are booted? Sometimes the results are a cause of a symptom that you don’t correctly diagnose…
5 times? And you were told to shut up? Sounds like you said something they didn’t care for.
I could see maybe in higher level fractals that maybe you got the boot for not knowing content well enough or was hindering a run by doing something. But your getting kicked out of lower level fractals routinely it sounds like.
As for groups you can either group with people you know or use gw2lfg. I’m doing lower level fractals and haven’t had to wait for more than a couple minutes so far.
An easier fix might be to increase the silver they drop. Want to skip all the trash in an Arah run? … sure but you miss out on 1g for doing so (1g for an entire clear not per mob
). I think you would find people starting to farm trash mobs. Would that be such a bad thing though considering precursors cost 400-450g?
I agree about Kohler but skipping trash in general is a good idea. They drop so little and have too much hp to clear them quickly. Maybe clearing all the trash mobs the first 10 times might seem interesting but after 50 or 75 times it gets to be pretty blah. Also I agree with Black Wolf that there are many many other threads like this.
So if I read this thread right Lupicus has been fixed but the change hasn’t be implemented yet. So I shouldn’t use any illusions when doing Lupicus…. yet??
Condensed: Wurm aggro bearer LoS’s them on ridge, rest of party kills Greater. You don’t even need to range safespot if you don’t have the aggro and the wurms are LoS’d.
^^ this. But this only does anybody any good if they actually understand the wurm fight. After 70+ runs in TA with PUG’s I can honestly say only 3-4 people knew how the wurm boss worked. But if you know it then it saves your group a little hassle.
… I’ve timed a run with 4 warrior’s/mesmer, it takes 5-7 mins. A run with a pug takes 7-10 mins. Is 3 min’s really that vital?
No. I play a mesmer. It doesn’t bother me when groups dedicated to gold farm on CoF1 want specific classes to blast out a run in 6 minutes. Its a small facet of the game. And for what its worth I’m not running any CoF at this time. My time goes towards Arah and Fractals and WvW
…My reasons:
1. They take an incredibly long time to do
2. If you can manage to find people to do them with you, they are usually addicted to the dungeon and have zero tolerance for people that are new to the dungeon, so often don’t help and leave you dead.
3. The rewards at the end don’t appear to be any better than the drops from the PvE system.
4. I haven’t done fractals at all because everyone advertises for “fractals lvl XX”. Trying to get into fractals at level 1 is impossible. People seem to be drawn to fractals, saying they are fun, but as it is now it is very much higher levels only.
1. Dungeons generally take 25-45 minutes (although a few can go longer like in Arah)
2. Well cant argue that. Newcomers usually get treated poorly. The learning curves aren’t too steep though. In 2 or 3 runs you’ll have basics down if you pay attention OR watch video’s. And yes, watch out for the speed runners until your more advanced.
3. Most things I get out of dungeons either get vendored or salvaged. People run dungeons for tokens, gold or lodestones.
4. Try gw2lfg.com and before you say “well I shouldn’t have to the game should have that already” you can give it a try and make an informed opinion. I use it all the time for finding groups and it works great. Hopefully the game will eventually have something like it but for now use the tools at our disposal.

… starter dungeon AC is insanely difficult .
I love a challenge, but this requires more luck than skill. That’s not fun. That’s called gambling.
To me its kind of funny how so many story modes are more difficult than the explore modes. Like you I enjoy the challenge. After running a ton of AC explore I felt generous and took a guild group of first time dungeoneers thru AC story. And it was much hard than I expected. We cleared it no problem but I think it left an impression that “omg the dungeons are so hard in this game I die all the time!” My opinion is story modes are entertaining but need tweaked down several notches. It should never be harder to do story modes than it is to do explore modes……. yet it is.
…block all rude people.
^^ this is best advice.
I’ve grouped with some tremendous players that I really enjoyed doing dungeons with. But I’ve run 200+ dungeons and my overall experience has been that the dungeon community is pretty rude. I was in a group one time for AC and 2 people in the group heckled this one poor player who was obviously inexperienced. They kept at it until that player left. They they act shocked that he quit the group. For some reason I typed in “well what did you expect after you were riding him the whole time”. There responce was it was that players fault for being such a noob.
Its such a shame but I see this all the time in GW2 and my block list is pretty large. Only other advice I can offer is dont waste your time getting upset by it. Move on as quickly as you can to the next group. There are good groups and bad ones. Its the risk you take when you PUG.
….. every group thing on gw2lfg says experianced members only!
Its like Obal said in his original post. Most of the posts ask for experience only. Some with real elitist overtones. Maybe they ran it 50 times and they are still farming Arah, who knows. It does make it hard to find a nice group.
The worst thing is that they’re quite bad themselves so you’re better to make your own group.
I like that idea but I’m wondering how you would post it to lfg? Any idea’s?

I agree, I’ve looked on GW2LFG for story mode but very seldom are there any posts. I can’t say I’m dying to do this. I hear it takes 2 hrs and is very anticlimatic. And I can’t help you since I’m on the US servers. But if there is anybody on the US servers that might want to get this over with on a Saturday or Sunday morning I might be persuaded. If nothing else I gave you a little bump. Hope you find a group!
Thanks Obal! Flawless run and had a good time. Learned many good things. Hope to join you and your guildies again sometimes
I have never even seen one dungeon yet because there is no dungeon finder que system. It is truly very sad because I really love this game, it’s just missing a dungeon finder. I don’t like constantly posting in map chat and hoping I will find a group. I should have never stopped playing wow, their dungeon finder was so awesome. If this is something that is being added please disregard my post. I just can’t believe this game even shipped without it…
All mmo’s have differences. If you really feel WoW is a better mmo suited for yourself you can always re-up your subscription. It does have a lot of content and is very polished.
Amazing videos there! Your survivability is monumental! Care to elaborate on your gear? I’m guessing the build is 0/20/20/0/30, right?
Spot on. I run knight’s gear as well. Weapons I use power/tough/vitality. I use Power,Toughness, Crit Damage trinkets. I keep my crit chance around 40% and crit damage above 60%.
@Seven I was just checking the Trading Post for trinkets. I couldn’t find the ones you mentioned. Did you mean Power Precision and Toughness trinkets with some kind of crit damage gem?
I’d like to join in as well. I’m east coast and have a Mesmer. Usually I’m on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday in the evenings. And also mornings and evenings on the weekends.
I’ve run Path 3 before but I’m still not as good at it as I’d like to be. I already have about 3 1/2 complete dungeon sets of exotics so I wouldn’t be running Arah for the gear. But I just want to run it because its there. And I enjoy dungeons. My hope is to get very good at Path 3 then learn the other paths eventually.
(edited by Kumakichi.2583)
@Seven really enjoyed your latest vid. I notice many times after you use torch or decoy that opponents dont immediately come after you. Is this due to culling not working correctly and your mesmer just isn’t visible on there screen yet?
One thing I’ve never been sure about. Does Lupicus tend to go after the person with the most toughness?
I like Lupicus being a harder boss. Now if I can stop being a noob and get out of all those red circles!
The spider boss in TA seems somewhat stronger since the patch. Still and easy boss. I noticed it last time I did TA she seemed quicker in her attacks and just slightly more damaging. I could be mistaken but I’ve run TA a lot and it just seems that way to me.
TA is a perfect example of the mantra “You shall not skip.”. The lacking of WP is also annoying. Combining with skipping mobs -> needless deaths.
I’ve been in a group once that skipped almost everything in TA fine…
Stuff is skippable in TA. Some players have a horrible time trying to make it past trash mobs that the group is trying to skip.
Its just a guess but did you run thru the oozes rather than kill them? Most groups just run thru those trash mobs. Detha goes back and attacks the oozes and thats what bugs her from talking to the ghost.
You all make good points but I think train derailed slightly. OP was mainly interestedin PvE if I’m not mistaken.
I like the mesmer due to its complexity and deception. I’ve never played any character like it. Its appealing because I’ve played so many mmo’s over the years but I’ve never played anything like a mesmer.
You wont like hearing this but I felt my mesmer just wasn’t complete until I hit 80 due to important traits. I felt forced into playing a certain setup when I wanted to be playing another style…. until I hit 80.
Mesmers have been nerfed consistently thats for sure. Mesmers nerfed… Thieves buffed… working as intended?
I dont think its a common misconception. A condition build does get the bulk of its damage generated from confusion. Its true the build also generates bleeds and burns also add to the damage. But its just been my experience from trying other builds that the bleeds and burns dont stack up quick enough and fall off very quickly. It just isn’t enough ooommph to make it a legitimate base of dps. Rather it seems to fall into nice supplemental dps. But when mobs attack so slowly that you can’t generate much confusion damage and we rely solely on our bleeds and burns it doesn’t contribute as much to a group. And thats kind of how I view it. Am I contributing enough to the group.
I ran TA again last nite in my condition build with a lackluster group but I carefully watched my numbers. To me it feels substantially less than my favorite pve builds. I guess the thing that sort of bothered me was when I joined the group someone remarked “alright a mesmer!” so the entire time I’m thinking “boy I should be doing more damage”. Maybe thats just me though.
In the end I dont think anybody would notice or feel that a condition built mesmer wasn’t pulling his weight. And maybe they do. But here is my last comment. I’m going to run Arah today with my guild. I’m seriously considering switching back to my favorite pve build rather than taking my confusion build because I feel its so inferior in pve due to so many mobs attacking slowly. Imagine how little damage I’ll do to that hammer guy who swings as slow as molasses (the one paired to the hunter)
Visit gw2lfg.com to form storymode groups
^^ this.
Lets face it everybody is doing fractals at this point. Luckily gw2lfg helps people hook up cross server so you can find storymode and explore in the old content.
… in PvE don’t attack often enough for it to be useful.
^^ this particularly some of the bosses such as the Nightmare Tree in TA.
Confusion build isn’t the best dps build for dungeons. But right now I’m playing a confusion build in pve only because I switch between pve and wvw so its become a pain to set everything up each time. Also I have very good gear, my setup is very good, I use consumables and I am good at keeping my mesmer rolling in this build.
My advice stack condition damage. Its easy to get over 2k with gear, traits, utilities and consumables. Cry of frustration, try to keep those confusion stacks high, bleeds, burns and feedback. In pve you can pump out clones like a machine so use them well. Imho the best gear is rabid, Arah, TA gear with precision, toughness and condition damage. The damage you do wont be bursty but it will be progressive. Sort of like a freight train it just takes a bit longer to get going. Once its going you have to keep it rolling.

If you’re having trouble getting a group for story mode, use gw2lfg.com. You’ll find 4 other people wanting to do it too if you’re a little patient.
^^this.
The server I play on is fairly populated and busy and I dont know if I could find a group for story for any of the non-fractal dungeons. I use gw2lfg to find groups for everything.
And I agree that once you’ve done story mode there isn’t any reason to go back in unless your helping someone else with it. But you get to see it once and you are able to make explore modes. The only other reason would be if your chasing the dungeon master title.
Are there any settings that let u see the thief faster when he gets out of stealth?
Cuz it unstealth> he hits me for about sec and a half>i actually see him>puff stealth again and repeat..
Not that I know about but I hear what your saying. I dont pretend to understand everything about the problems with thief stealth. They refer to issues with culling so that graphically we dont see the thief appear on our screen even though he’s not really stealthed. Yet the end result ends up being comical as you try to pvp vs. someone you never see long enough to attack. A skilled thief can exploit invisibility right up to where your downed and then they drop refuge on top of you as they stomp you so you never even see them when you die.
I think the disappearing and reappearing could be either heartseeker spam or I think maybe they have another skill that does something similar where all they have to do is hit an enemy and it grants them stealth for 3 seconds so they do it over and over. And thieves get rediculous mobility so dont bother trying to run from a thief. Its best to switch to your staff.
And 1 last tip, something you can try for yourself. If a thief opens on you and you have your staff out you can use staff #2 and mirror images for an immediately shatter. If you have runes of air and get a nice proc you might actually down a glass cannon thief right away. If not spam staff #1 to try and flush him out. If you do drop chaos storm on him.
(edited by Kumakichi.2583)
A couple tips for what they are worth. I always have a couple toughness vitaly pieces equipped regardless of traits because I dont want to go full glass cannon. Glass cannons are just too easy for thieves. And when traveling by my self or in a very small group I always have my staff out for the added survivability it gives you. And lastly if a thief goes invisible on me after the initial attack I’ll spam my staff #1 to try and flush him out. Many times I’m able to kick a thief out of stealth that way. Once he’s visible I work with whatever my build allows me to do depending on my weapons and traits. But I always rely on the staff to keep me alive until I can make an opportunity to attack. Also what your clones they will point to the last direction of the thief if he turns invisible. They will also point the way to the thief if he reappears but usually thats near you. And use portal to create kiting room when fighting a thief. That and blink are your tools for trying to kite a thief.
The only reasons to do Story mode are:
a To experience the story
b To unlock Exploration mode.
^^ this.
Storymodes can be entertaining. At any rate someone in your explore groups will have had to do storymode. Nothing worse than having your group only to find out nobody can make explore mode. Thats how I usually end up doing story.
I wouldn’t mind the events so much if they didn’t respawn so rapidly. It’s super repetitive and super boring.
I’ve seen the gate open and then become contested 4 minutes later…..
I’ve read this before. Think it has something to do with doing too many dungeons in too short a period. I’ve never had that happen to me but just remember reading forum posts about it.
I always used gw2lfg so I get people from other servers to increase the odds of getting an open gate.
I could be mistaken but I think I had to all the patches before I could play.
My understanding is the guardian is a terrific group character. The warrior is biggest dps or can be very tankish. An elementalist is another high dps character and terrific in a group. I play a mesmer and I think its a terrific character then played well.
