The problem is that you’re not walking close enough for the automatic targeting version of the lightning jump skill to kick in. You’re too far away that you have to ground target your jump.
Just walk in closer and watch your icon flip.
The automatic version overshoots just as easily. I only use it when crossing a gap with something on the other side, like when you’re moving around the market and will just smack into a wall after landing. For the crystals out on small platforms with no wall to hit, I actually had to intentionally avoid the auto target version, and instead manipulate the manual targeted one so that I launched from as far back as possible on the platform and hit the spike in the middle of the next one – else I’d roll right off the far side most times.
Of course, totally at random, it would throw in one where I fell short instead…
It probably does, but having more of everything doesn’t necessarily help you more than having a bit less of three specific things.
Now they’ve updated it to give you silver, karma AND quartz… Great…
So sort of like doing an event where you kill a load of trash in the process (random kite cookies fortunes from murdered trash mobs are easily my primary source of quartz; they also give the currency stuff and recipes pretty frequently).
Honestly if you don’t like the race… don’t race. It’s far from the only way to get silver, karma, or quartz.
I’m not competing for a reward, I’m competing for fun. This is a game, and I would like it to be played fairly so I can have fun.
If your ability to have fun relies on what displays on the scoreboard – which deprives you of nothing in this case – rather than the actual preceding gameplay, you should probably take a long look at why that is.
I actually like the race, but when people cheat like this it really hurts us all.
[citation needed]
Seems to me that the only person this hurts is the person who gives up their spot, and they clearly don’t mind. Behind them, the fortune of the rest can really only improve or remain the same as a result, unless they pause to mope about something that wouldn’t otherwise have affected them, and someone runs past. And letting that happen would be pretty hypocritical of them.
It’s match fixing, it’s not allowed in pvp or wvw, so why is it suddenly okay here? Do we just change the rules of the game when it suits us now? It affects people who want to have a fair and challenging race to the end for fun.
It’s FFA. The only person you disadvantage by doing this is you, and thanks to the reward in it being the same, it isn’t really capable of screwing with the economy (like for example farming someone’s alt for badges).
They’re definitely hiding something. I met an asura with tingly ears up on that ship you know, it doesn’t get much more conclusive than that.
Oh and add me to the list of people who hate jumping puzzles. The body collisions and camera in this game are awful.
Just for you: some pictures of my warrior standing perfectly still. Also at one point I think playing air-guitar on an air-stage.
Actually I landed in water, but still.
I’d used the lightning skill, got flung well beyond the target area as per usual, and started falling. Was very high up so I waypointed while falling. I teleported to the WP as per usual… then, I returned to where I had been, and fell the rest of the way down into the water.
Is this some bizarre new level of rubberbanding? Inventive new way to double the extent to which being flung off a flying boat by broken movement skills is a gold sink?
I’ve never had that happen before, even as far as waypointing while falling goes, and I’ve certainly done that before. On European servers even where I’ve MUCH worse latency thanks to connecting to them via the USA (which is itself about as far from me physically as Europe).
odd/weird/interesting
I have no trouble with Lighning Pull.
However, I can not get the hang of Assisted Jumping.
When possible i use Lightning Pull instead of Assisted Jumping. So, that video.
Sofar, I never had that the jump is to short or to long, and i also nevr rolled forward when landing. Always landed completely still.
Wierd.
Only thing I noticed with the assisted jump (besides amusing latency that would mean sometimes I ran, pressed jump, fell off the edge, and sprang back up into the air when it realized I’d jumped) is that if you aren’t moving when it starts, you’re pretty much limited to ‘up’ without much ability to steer around, and rarely, for some reason I don’t quite grasp, it doesn’t do anything when you press it… until you take a step, and get shot into the air.
Very interesting read. ^
What I would like to know is why all my ground-targeting skills are precise, and all my normal jumping is precise – but in jump pads and aspect skills the game is utterly failing me. It seems they didn’t use the same implementation method on the normal skills, so why the change?
I’ve known people to make a jump in this game, land where they were going, teleport down as if they’d fallen, then up again, then down again, and finally stop there. Sometimes it happens more times than that before it accepts a final location: once just messing around in LA near the gate to SC, I leapt off the edge and landed on the boardwalk… then appeared at the top again. Leapt off and landed… then back to the top. Repeated multiple times, finally got down. Alternatively it can be exactly like the first one, where I don’t have to leap off twice, it just goes back and forth for ages.
I think in this case, what makes it so much worse is probably the speed and distances involved. I do notice it with normal skills sometimes, but not usually this severe unless it’s like WvW and the server is on fire because people are fighting in the SMC lord room.
I haven’t made it so far into the patch yet so I won’t comment directly on what people are saying.
What I will say is that most Oceanics have managed to compensate for our 300ms ping times with the way we approach most online games.
That said if there is no feasible way to compensate for the activities that developers have in place for those that have a 300ms ping, developers really need to look at this and consider.
Oceanics asked for a Oceanic server, which we never got. Lets not punish the oceanics further.
I don’t think it’s solely ping. Sometimes, very rarely, it’ll work precisely as it should in spite of the latency. Also a lot of people saying they had problems with it in /map, while not near the servers, weren’t nearly as far away as I am. Of course I doubt the latency helps at all either.
As far as the actual skill goes, whether you can compensate really depends. You don’t control when it ends, so your options are basically: go closer/further away from the target area depending on whether it overshoots or falls short (obviously not an issue if you’re landing on something big and can aim elsewhere on it, but very often the things you’re aiming for are tiny, like a beam of wood); approach from a different angle such that you may hit something and be stopped; keep repeating it and eventually, if you’re lucky, it’ll work normally.
This is only with the targeted version, as well. Sometimes the automatic version which swaps in to take you directly from one point to another along a place people will frequently be jumping, sort of like a pathway, will have the same problem. Less, I think, because it’s usually between larger platforms or entire chunks of scaffolding-island-stuff. In this case you can’t aim it at all, and you’ll need to either avoid that starting point, or if you can’t (small platform for instance) after a bit of jiggling around I eventually got the skill to swap back (not sure if through movement or just waiting) and used the targeted version instead.
I completed this achievement rather quickly and I live in Victoria, Australia. So please stop complaining.
Well as long as this random is okay, all is well.
Oh wait, nevermind, this changes absolutely nothing for scores of people trying to work with a skill that only functions under some unknown ideal circumstances that frequently aren’t feasible in practice. Carry on then.
I dislike content which strongly favours the TP and power trading. The game already heavily favours TP players, the first hours after the patch details were revealed strongly favoured TP flippers who bought out all the materials.
It’s a gold sink. Flipping only uses gold already in the economy and actually helps get rid of it because re-listing something for a higher price means that it ends up with a second (higher) set of fees paid on it. For better or worse I don’t think they’re ever going to stop nudging people in that direction.
On the plus side, it’s more fun than jumping.
People never cease to amaze me.
Probably because you mistake ‘people’ for ‘the same people’. One little generalization and suddenly they’re capable of all kinds of amazing and contradictory things!
So I think I’ve got 28/40 crystals now. Between the usual camera ‘fun’, semi-functional skills w/ rubber-banding, and horrible movement controls while jumping, this has been easily the most unpleasant thing I’ve ever done in a game.
I’m not going to do the rest. If I want to play a jumping game, there’s loads of them that aren’t rubbish knock-offs inside something totally unsuited to being one.
I can deal with the dash because I turn it off early. I do everything early in this game because that’s the only way it works: dodges, blocks, jumps, whatever.
Their automatic bloody skill however is such a horrible waste of time and keystrokes. Whether I target it manually or use the ‘get to next platform’ version it will throw me off more often than not. The key appears to be to position yourself so that, if you’re lucky, you’ll hit an object and stop instead of sailing over the other side or bouncing off the edge.
In other news, never ever buying another MMO designed to be played on local connexions from a company who clusters all the servers in only two places worldwide.
These are even soulbound from the mystic forge. It’s been that way since… pretty much ever AFAIK.
Also: don’t worry about them ‘looking into’ that work-around, it encourages people to use gems on salvage kits for a guarantee they’ll get their rune back.
Fire comes in more than red and orange, Anet.
That’s very important actually, just changing the color and adapting the particle effects can totally change the look and concept behind a certain armor set.
Fire dye slots should be a thing…
As a side note, I’d actually like to see more with the horns sawed/filed off. Tankers, submariners, pilots, or just soldiers who worried about giving the enemy leverage over their neck. Given the culture seems to value practicality it seems fitting, but right now I think there’s only one option (and only male isn’t it?).
Feel free to pm and ask me for a few gold if I’m wrong
Would it work?
It also comes with items similar to what one would find from WvW reward chests.
So does killing miscellaneous creatures. :P
Also I find it amusing there are leaderboards for this. Never even noticed.
I’ve seen NPC’s I’m pretty sure actually combined light and medium armour. So yeah, don’t trust their class as representing what they can do.
Same with weapons: some have weapon combos no player class can do.
Something like this maybe?
I dont like aion, but arenanet needs to bribe their armor designers into making some sets for gw2..
this is what I call epic
Not that it looks hideous or anything, but… I think that approach there has been more or less ‘create fancy clothes, call it “plate,” “chain,” and so on, then apply a very very faint texture vaguely indicative of that last part’. I don’t think it’s so much that they can’t do this, as they’ve decided not to. That said, I’m far from impressed by the way they’ve handled armour given that they only seem to consider when making it that it looks decent on humans and to hell with the rest.
There’s a running joke I’ve got that ANet runs with their camera off the left shoulder because they keep putting walls on the right-hand side of their JPs (I run camera off the right shoulder) xP
That said, try moving the camera position slider and practice setting it optimally for the jumping tasks at-hand. Yes, the camera can be a spaz and there are a few JPs out there with collision issues, but that’s where practice makes perfect. Now if you’re talking about Troll’s End, I can’t help ya. You can either handle the forced 1st-person view and like it, or you can learn to like it if you wanna finish that one regularly.
Or, get your mesmer friends who are awesome at JPs to port you to the chests.
I could handle 1st person view fine, but the false sense of it you get from the camera having nowhere to go but jammed through the character’s skull bothers me, because I can’t even look down at the things I should be jumping on without it getting just enough freedom to stare at the back of the head and make me want to stab things.
There’s probably a game out there with a worse camera than GW2, but I’ve never played it and likely never would.
I thought their complaint was that it actually failed to do damage or something?
Is this a known thing? It’s been happening on and off for me since pretty much… ever. I kind of figured it would be, but I started using GS again recently on the warrior and noticed it still happens.
I think it actually does deal the damage, but from looking at it you wouldn’t expect it to have. No floating numbers, nor hit sounds, but I can use it as a first attack and the health bar of the target(s) goes down a bit.
FWIW this is based on a male charr warrior, idk if race could possibly affect it or not.

this is permanent…
u can see on my SS here
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Skill-BUG-Cripple-permanent/first#post23124915 minutes…
and i try again… (not cure it) i wanna know how long this skill….and
..this skill on me 30 minutes…
i think if i dont cure it 1 years it be on there forever (if iam not relog or this bug has fix)
My point is it can look like that even if it’s only got seconds left. But I’ve actually had cripple in Orr (iirc from the statues of melandru, risen gorillas, and earth elementals) that has built up to several minutes in duration, and the timer only broke later, so I wouldn’t doubt they could really have put it on you for that long at all.
The skins have terrible clipping issues on charr and I don’t feel like making a new character for them. If anything they’ve encouraged me to avoid putting more money into this game/company.
Seemed a bit off for me too, I just stopped using it. The tooltip for that and the longbow c/d reduction are unchanged it would seem (i.e. nothing mentions the c/d reduction they say they added).
…and he seemed to be doing so well.
I don’t know about its functionality but I’d probably equip it just for the ability to yell that.
I’ve had this with a few conditions (and boons – easily stackable ones like swiftness) occasionally. As far as I can tell it’s not actually permanent, the timer just sometimes expires before the boon/condition really has run out, so the icon sits there for a while, sometimes minutes at a time. Cripple is one of those ones that some things can stack on you for ages so it seems to happen more with that.
In total I recall seeing it with: swiftness, fury, cripple, poison.
edit: oh, and I think chill/burning as well, but usually they end shortly after anyway.
It’s not even the time they take to cast, I mean I don’t feel like this on my necro and that has horribly slow skills. More like actually getting them to cast in the first place is hard.
Like sheathing weapons when an auto-attack is going, I guess. I often have to multi-tap skills to get them to do their thing and by then it may well be too late.
Somehow, regardless of actual game performance and how all my other characters work, the moment I log on to my warrior I immediately feel like every single skill wants me to smash the keyboard with a hammer before it actually starts to happen. Dodges, too. On other characters, I can be dodging on-time, using skills when I actually need them, and then I play the warrior… and it’s like the thing has been swimming in glue.
Is there some sort of really long aftercast duration on like… everything? Is it bugged horribly? Every time I come back to this class it feels this way and I’m really starting to despise playing it now that I’ve got more 80’s to choose from.
The stunbreak was literally the only thing I equipped it for. I don’t want to shrink and be unable to use skills, I don’t care enough about endurance to waste a slot refilling it, but being able to break stun then get a guaranteed two dodges was actually useful.
Don’t know if it’s fixed, but if you’re fast enough you can equip your Kit right before becoming small and still use attacks. Kind of an exploit, but yea..
It’s not even attacks I wanted to use – I used to have it on my WvW builds as an escape, but it doesn’t remove conditions sort of like Endure Pain to warriors, so I would often need to use S and then C or all I’d do is sit around immobilized for a few seconds and then die. When they changed S I didn’t really care because I could just use R instead and still have the same effect (the few moments immune to damage never actually mattered much to me).
Now I have one that basically just delays death for a few seconds, and the thing that will either use all my endurance or make me take more damage. Neither of which I’m willing to waste a slot on.
Why not? You lose nothing by trying
you lose gold for repairing your gear
If you lose more than a few silver repairing your gear, get your pockets repaired at the same time.
Sat outside shooting fireworks until I got picked. Completed it easily enough, died a few times to unfamiliar mechanics/damage. Went to fill a spot on another group where someone left due to wiping at the sparkle-pain-mixer-thing room, completed that easily enough too. Don’t think I died that time but we lost a thief and ranger now and again. Discovered the shield comes off quicker if I distract Trin in the AOE for a bit then dodge out and heal.
The only really trippy thing was bouncing up those pistons. Rubberbanded like crazy on the first run, and the camera hitting the ceiling fails to help. Not as bad as dying when running down stairs/slopes though, so as a means of traversing heights I’d rate it better than most other parts of the game.
Can’t say I ever felt I needed to use a ranged weapon tbh. It does help to have at least someone there tanky enough to stand around slapping Mai Trin about the head for a bit while the AOE is applied to her shield, but even that isn’t strictly necessary.
I guess it’s either an oversight, or they wanted to justify the extra cooldown on the sword block then. Oh well, at least now I can use all three + reflect. Getting karka to kill themselves is the only thing that makes them worth killing… and I suppose it works on people too.
Sword offhand 5 does a nice block from range attacks now, but why no love for mace 2 which is basically the same?
Actually the mace one already kept blocking for its duration if hit from range. I always just assumed the sword would too, but since I took shield if I wanted and off-hand block…
Nope. Its block just single hit
Hmm… what if you put the reflect trait on?
I’ve used that skill and shield’s block to wander around SC making karkas mass-suicide in the past and their ranged stuff never stopped it blocking – it’d keep going until it expired or it was_hit by something it could counter-attack. So either it only works if traited, or they’ve changed it at some point.
edit: underscore for the ’kitten filter as always
So i have to put reflect trait on to get same effect as sword? Nty.
I don’t know, I just assumed from the response you’d tested it and found it cancels for attacks from beyond its range now. If so, it might only work when traited. If not that, they must have just nerfed/broken it somewhere along the line, because I used to use it specifically for that function.

The auto attack on the axe was really the primary reason I used it. Well, on the mainhand, it was the only reason. Now I just keep the sword there instead. I don’t know if the theoretical DPS is better or worse, and I don’t really care, I know by now that I’m going to have dodged, or moved, or my target will have, by the time the last part of a rear-heavy auto attack chain happens.
I don’t need the vuln – my GS will do that if I ever feel I actually want to cleave a tiny bit of it onto things. I certainly don’t need a ranged cripple on a melee weapon when I can have one that propels me to the target and cripples it. I don’t even need to rely on the 5pt trait for the 25pt trait, which is great for switching to GS because the bleeds last longer and GS hits slowly unless I use something I want the bleeds to already exist for.
tl;dr – my necro can have the axe skins.
I always used to think this event in the gates of Arah chain just involved the NPC waiting for something. It will run there, wait, fight, wait, fight, wait, fight… et cetera et cetera, until it fails. It’s succeeded sometimes, but I never saw it happen as I was doing the other events those times.
So, I heard it’s supposed to do something at those lantern things… well, that would explain a lot. Do we need to keep risen from even entering its aggression range in order for it to work then? Merely killing them off and healing/reviving the NPC doesn’t seem to help. Or is it just dysfunctional?
Was that event ever actually worthwhile? I do it sometimes just because it’s there, but… meh. That time spent slaughtering mobs elsewhere would probably land me ahead on anything but karma.
I notice they paid a lot of attention to how that monocle from AR would look on charr as well… lol.
I’m pretty sure it could be done solo. You may need to be very tanky though due to the shadowstep on Mai, and take loads of condition removal because of everything, but most of the really hard hitting stuff is a game of ‘avoid lots of red circles’.
Same as before….
30/25/0/0/15
20/25/0/10/15 (empower allies)If you want to push your DPS even further
30/25/0/10/5
desperate power.
You spend enough time <50% life to warrant trading away 10% crit damage for that?
Definitely 30-25-0-0-15 although I wonder if Empowered stacks with 4 Warriors. 150 × 4 = 600 additional damage.
Pretty sure none of that type of buff stack (assuming you meant Empower Allies because Empowered is unchanged AFAIK).
