Duel Axe vs GS (In full crit dmg gear)

in Warrior

LameFox.6349

I used to use dual axes but I find the last two attacks aren’t really so wonderful. I mean they aren’t bad, but I prefer having a warhorn or something. The vulnerability one isn’t any good to me since I already have the second skill, plus 33% chance on critical, plus ‘on my mark’. And the whirling axes are fun but recharge slowly compared to the GS’s similar skills, and I’m uncertain whether it actually does more damage than auto-attack. One axe also naturally keeps their awesome burst skill.

Compared to GS… hm. I’d probably go with GS for pvp simply because even when you miss, it does recharge faster. Unless you want to try to be completely made of glass, in which case you might not live that long. You are wearing berserker gear, so I guess that’s a strong possibility.

Maybe axes & warhorn? Whirling can be used to get adrenaline at least, and you can just try to use the burst skill as often as possible, it hurts a lot.

EDIT: the horn is, naturally, for travel and buffs/debuffs.

Those are basically just saying what stats it has. Knight’s is power, precision, toughness iirc, and Berserker’s is power, precision, critical damage.

You can find random items of varying levels with those stats, buy them on the trade post, or craft them. I tend to just find most of the materials, buy the ones I’m missing, and craft it.

I know it’s fairly random, I just meant so that I could basically move across the zone from one (potential) node to the next, not missing any. I doubt they’re predictable enough to actually know where each one will be, though, but at least having a decent ‘run’ set up between all of the places would be nice.

I guess I might end up just making one. Or at least, marking them down for a while. If there’s like 100 places in each map it would become meaningless, but I’ve found a few that have been repeated already in only a few days, so I’m guessing it’s not quite so drastic.

Does anybody know where to find one?

I was on the verge of doing this myself a few days ago – just drawing up a rough map and marking each place I find one until I get all the potential points – but it occurred to me that someone else must have thought of it already by now, so I figured I’d ask before going to the effort.

I completely ignore that effect tbh. Its active effects run out before it recharges, and I want them up in combat, so it’s literally always recharging during the one time it might be useful passively.

18.7k Kill Shot - At what cost?

Meh, dont really give a kitten how Glass Cannon that Warrior was, Kill Shot is OP and needs a nerf. In WvW I was hit for 15K on my 80 Ele wearing Cleric gear (has toughness). And the attack has 1500 range. Why does anyone think this is balanced? Or for others complaining their non-Glass Cannon Warrior “only” hits for 10K. Yeah, Kill Shot is fine lol.

Why would I think it isn’t balanced? Just saying that your squishy class ‘with toughness’ got hit for 15k doesn’t automatically imply imbalance.

its funny how FGJ outperforms Signet of might AND Signet of Fury in terms of “powerboost per time” and “critchance boost by time”, yet most people run signets

FGJ gives 3 might 100% of the time. Signet of might does 5 might 40% of the time (10s duration on 25sec cd), which is about equal as 2 might 100% of the time. The passive bonus is (active) 93power and 93 cond dmg vs (passive) 90 power.
Furys passive gives about 4% critchance 100% of the time (given you dont use the signet itself for adren). FGJ’s Fury-boon is 8sec of 20% critboost on 25 sec cd. thats about equal as 6.4% critchance 100% of the time.

Boon duration and “20% recharge” traits are existant for both sides.

I use For Great Justice most of the time now, but I can see why people prefer not to. It’s sort of a benefit and a bane at the same time that you’ve got to recast it so often. I mean my current build for PVE has a warhorn, three shouts and signet of rage. I’m keeping track of so many recharge timers and boons that I can sometimes spend a whole fight watching the skill bar and moving with my peripheral vision.

18.7k Kill Shot - At what cost?

in Warrior

LameFox.6349

I do that in WvW too… never measured my exact damage but against some people yeah. Basically when I get tired of getting swarmed I just switch to ‘lots of damage’ and snipe people on/from walls. Berserker gear is pretty popular already so he probably had that. Retraited into something glassy like 30/30/0/0/10 or even 10/30/0/0/30 and then with your low level and medium armour… yeah.

So, it probably cost a few silver for the retrait. If he was only fighting ranged anyway, it’s not so bad survivability-wise.

TBH, even in just PVE I think it’d be easier to play a ranger without a pet. They kinda-sorta provide a brief sponge for enemy damage but it’s no good if you take on a few stronger things and kite.

Against any decent thing as well, like in an event, they just die constantly and need reviving or get ignored for the rest of the battle because it’s not worth the time.

Why is it that with 100% swiftness and 100% vigor 13/16sec I still get outrun?

in Warrior

Posted by: LameFox.6349

LameFox.6349

Once you get hit and are “in combat” you start to go really slowly. Swiftness helps but not enough. I think, hypothetically, if you wanted to be fast like a spaz, you should have sword/warhorn and greatsword. Use warhorn and signet of rage for swiftness, use sword for its rush attack, then switch and use the whirling thing, and the greatsword’s rush attack too (maybe with the precision line’s GS recharge speed trait). Then use bull’s charge. And use the last trait line’s thing for ‘movement skills break immobilise’) and having some ways to remove conditions. If you have the boon duration increase, or some runes for swiftness, you can keep it up forever. Even without, warhorn and rage signet is a lot of swiftness.

Then, I think, you should win some races. Just make sure you don’t let your skills auto-target and rush back towards the enemy.

lvl 80 PVE builds?

in Warrior

Posted by: LameFox.6349

LameFox.6349

I’ve gone through most of the game just using a greatsword and a rifle, basically killing things very fast and moving on. Traits are 20/30/0/0/20. All rare berserker armour. I use skills for the sword mostly (the extra damage one and the recharge speed one) and switch to the rifle for special things that I can’t survive long enough to melee. So many critical hits just sort of melts things.

Except now, in the lvl 80 areas with all the undead junk mobs EVERYWHERE, I can’t rely on killing fast enough to survive anymore. I mean they do die really fast, but they also respawn really fast, and they are so close together that it’s hard to avoid adds in every encounter. The guys using the axe throw to drag me around the world also means sacrificing things for stability. I’m frequently unable to be out of combat long enough to heal – something just spawns there or walks there.

Even just walking around trying to harvest nodes is supremely annoying. Heals are too little too slow, stability and endure pain are too infrequent. I’m tired of getting downed by useless trash mob adds and barely managing to kill something with a rock, if at all. I need to find something that actually survives, especially since I’m mostly online in the emptier times when I can’t just tag along and provide DPS.

So, what are some good (survivable) builds?

The burst skill does shoot to 1500, but otherwise yeah rangers are better. Also, with a bow you can often manually shoot something outside your ‘range’. I haven’t tried to work it out exactly, but it seems to just travel a bit further than the range thing indicates. But with a rifle, the shot just goes ‘nope’ when the red bar is there.

One zone, I couldn’t even get the armour I wanted from the karma vendor because an event is going on forever and he’s like ‘no, screw you, I can only sell after this is over’ even though I’ve done his own stupid quest (a skillpoint there is all that keeps me from completing the map, too). If they can’t fix the problems, they should at least reset the things so we can actually use these parts of the game occasionally.

It’s really bloody awful trying to do a lot of things in closed spaces in this game. Especially if you’re using a large race. I try to do a jumping puzzle as my Charr, and the camera is either bouncing off the walls, or zoomed in and blocked by my character’s back. It’s bad enough trying to use them in open puzzles, but this is just pathetic. I don’t even do half of them because the reward isn’t worth the frustration.

Zooming in 100% should be 1st-person (i.e. your character is invisible to you, and you don’t look from behind them). Excluding this has been a horrible decision/oversight.

Wow, not many animal lovers here, whether pro or con mounts. Isn’t anyone else interested in building a more interesting and believable (well, suspension of disbelief) virtual world? Mounts don’t have to go so fast that you’d “miss the roses”, or events. I’d certainly stop for a downed player. I agree though, that they can be a clutter in crowded spaces, so perhaps they could be stabled while in cities. And while providing fantastic aerial views, flying mounts would unfortunately ruin the jumping puzzles.

And for everyone who thinks base run speed is ok, I hope you’ve at least played a Norn guardian for a bit to gain a proper perspective. =)

In the size of this virtual world, you wouldn’t need mounts at all… and there aren’t actually a whole lot of speedy animals zooming around, you know? I can outrun them already if they aren’t slowing me down. The way they have it now, just using things like Dolyaks to move heavy stuff, makes more sense in that setting.

I like my Charr… though admittedly, I only started collecting good looking armour at like 65, because you go through it so fast to begin with. Helmets can look a bit stupid on Charr though, but you can just switch them off until you find a good one anyway.

Small races… I dunno, I don’t really notice what they have on ‘cause they’re too little.

It depends a lot on colour too, IMO. Some colours on some armours look like plastic, or as though it has no texture.

I don’t really feel like the world is big enough for mounts. Teleporting is a bit extortionate at current rates, though. It’d be nice to see it priced so that going a long way is alright to save time, but a short way is cheaper yet not as cost-effective. Then you don’t just zip around the world like a spaz, but you don’t need to take a vacation to run from one end of the game to another, either.

Frankly, it would look pretty daft, too. They’d need to add in things to the scenery and NPC behaviour. Notice that nobody else rides things, only uses the odd pack animal – and where would all these mounts live, lore wise? Not a lot of stables around. The game just clearly wasn’t designed for mounts at all, and it would need a pretty drastic change for them to fit in.

Also… what moves fast that you would ride?

EDIT:

If you don’t want one, don’t get one. :P

We already got a game without them – isn’t that enough?

I thought it might be something to prevent botting, but I don’t get why it would do this when I’m doing different events. I only repeat them in one session if I just happen to walk by as it’s happening, not sitting there to do it over and over. Plus, I was also doing other things there. I finished exploring/hearts in Iron Marches today and got a fair bit of the next area done.

If this is something a bot would do, there’s nothing I can do to avoid seeming like one, except just go play/do something else. Or maybe logging into an alt, but I’m not sure whether that works, and I usually prefer to play one character for a few days then switch to another, or I forget what I’m even up to.

Am I being punished for playing?

LameFox.6349

So I played for a few hours today, working through two zones doing heart quests and events, exploring, harvesting, etc. Then just a few minutes ago I went into a tougher part of the area (around flame citadel, enemies lvl ~70, I’m lvl 69) and after killing some guys and getting a few points of interest, an event happens pretty much on top of me. Did that one with one other player, then went to another one (or actually, the next stage of that one, I think). More people showed up for this bit (luckily – not ideally a two person thing) and we completed it.

I got really tiny amounts of karma for both of them though, which was pretty disappointing because it was a pretty large scale event compared to what I usually find (the latter part – a fight on the bridge outside CoF). I wasn’t failing to do damage or kill (I got a gold contribution I should say, so the low rewards were for that, not just getting a bronze or so), but my guildmate got over 300 for the last part alone while I got <50 each.

So I’m lost here. I’ve never done this event before – ever – so am I just getting lousy rewards because I’ve been playing for a few hours? All I’ve done is basically run around the map doing whatever I find. Are they trying to kick me out of the whole area? Or do I just get less and less the more I play, regardless of what/where it is?

Setup for (lone) Warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: LameFox.6349

LameFox.6349

Besides PVE, which doesn’t really require much, I tend to spend time in WvW trying to hunt down lone enemies. Not that I don’t follow the odd mob to attack something, but it’s not much fun and my fps goes from 60 to 25-30 with all that going on, which I find annoying.

Unfortunately, most lone people I find either run away, or call backup. My movement speed is pretty awful considering the distance people can see, so running them down is meh. Mostly the ones I engage are the ones who have friends nearby, but in the time it takes to both deal out DPS and do stupid circling dances trying to keep in range and facing them, their allies usually arrive and I get drowned in control effects and die. The most irritating thing of all is that often I do get them downed, but not defeated.

So far I’ve mostly used axes or a greatsword. I tried a hammer but even NPC’s think my damage output is funny. Swords I occasionally try, maces I’ve ignored because the traits for them don’t seem that useful. In fact, toughness/healing in general doesn’t seem to do much for me; I still take plenty of damage and heal too poorly to matter a whole lot.

At the moment I’m on 30/0/30/0/10 (it’s incomplete – level 54 or so – but I test it in sPVP) and I don’t like it that much. Not bad for PVE but meh for killing people fast and tanking their backup seems pretty much impossible.

30/30/0/0/10 seemed a bit better, but I still had trouble actually hitting them. There’s so much dancing around, and when I use my movement impairing skills, it really feels like there’s far less effect on them than theirs have on me. So I’m not sure if I should be trying to increase DPS or snares at this point. I’m used to games where people take waaay less of a hammering to die – can they just not be killed as fast as I’m trying to achieve?

Maybe something like 10/30/0/0/30 and as much precision as possible would be better? Or do I need to fill up my utility slots with snare skills?

This game isn’t balanced like a fighting game for 1v1. I don’t think any MMO has actually pulled that off. Wanna go 1v1? Go to WvW, find a loner, and start a fight. It’s what I do.

It’s way more interesting than the environments I’ve seen in cities where it’s just mindless duels that litter the streets.

If I find a loner in WvW, he either runs away or has backup in the huge majority of cases. To get one alone I basically have to hide up a hill and literally jump on him so I’m in range to cripple/stun/etc. It’s a pretty slow way of doing things, especially with hours in queue to get there.

As much as it seems straightforward, the vast majority of times using these skills, I miss. I first thought it was an issue with people moving around in PVP, but I tried them on NPC’s where I’d mostly been using axes before, and Rush more often than not overshoots a stationary target, swinging the sword on the other side. Charge will apply knockdown but it still goes past them, swinging the sword at air. Then by the time I turn around and run into range, they’re either up or getting up.

I’m sorry? Where did I say spin jumps make you immune to damage? That’s a prime example, a better player would understand that being able to do a 360 while firing on the 180 means you can kite easily. Just so we’re clear hear, kiting does not mean “immune to damage” lol. It means you can fluidly keep running in the same direction (You know, away from the player?) while still being able to fire. You pretty much proved my point.

Fascinating, it actually let me log in…

Have you tried the turn around key? I forget its name… found it unbound, and put it on my mouse 4 button. ‘About face,’ or just ‘turn around’ – something like that. Basically does an instant 180, no cooldown, I guess to make up for the people using keyboard turning.

I don’t really kite though, I just use it for skills like Rush that consistently overshoot even a stationary target.
