And why do humans ghosts attack me on my Asura and even other human? What beef do the Ascalon ghosts have with me when I just want to complete exploration? Attacking Charr I can understand, but maybe them being hostile to all races is just for purposes of gameplay and they aren’t plot hostile (like in WoW undead are weak vs. holy according to the plot but for the purposes of game balance don’t have that weakness)?

I just assume they’re stark raving mad by now. They don’t just attack players either, I see them fighting separatists as well. I think they just attack anyone but other ascalonian ghosts.

LOL. I’m gonna have to follow some human female warriors around now to hear this, it seems hilarious. At least, assuming it’s the same for someone else nearby as it is the user… never thought of that before.

Sword-Power or Condition? What do you all think?

I use sword with precision trait line and berserker’s (mostly) gear. With the trait for extra damage to bleeding targets (25, not selectable) and the one for increased crit chance with a sword (plus fury, etc), it can actually do pretty good direct damage using bleeding sort of like a debuff and then just getting a lot of critical hits.

Are you sure it’s not just the log adding the new damage to the old number when it hits another thing? I mean if you shoot through a bunch of the same creature, do you see its health go down more for each one pierced, or does the number just climb for about the same change to the bar?

EDIT: for example the hunters in the 1st pic look to have taken roughly the same damage, assuming they’re the ones you hit.

Right now I’m using a sword/warhorn + rifle with 0/30/0/30/10. FGJ & signet of rage gives me perma-fury with my sigils, shake it off + warhorn gives condition removal and speed/endurance (plus a little healing from shouts). Sword has the 10% critical chance trait, rifle recharge is in there, and both benefit from extra damage to bleeding targets. It’s not as survivable as it could be, but it’s a nice mix for me.

Of course, I don’t know if it’s the ‘best’, but it’s not awful, and the shouts/wh benefit allies.

Between that and the whole ‘switch to medkit, drop bottle, walk on it’ thing, I think I’m just going to go back to the elixir heal and use the dedicated condition removal elixir and/or trait for immunity under 25% health. For some reason the ‘cleansing burst’ skill on my healing turret will happen with a random delay after I activate it, which isn’t indicated anywhere. I press the button, and sometime in the next few seconds it activates. Rarely it’s right away, sometimes in a few seconds, and sometimes longer than the conditions even lasted for, making it utterly useless.

Honestly I think you should just be able to dodge off a turret anyway. It’s not like you’re strapped in; you just stand there.

As for the actual function, it seems interesting but almost too useful, in a way. Maybe not to be balanced, but to be implemented. It seems a bit… more than the other kits, and from what I’ve seen so far I honestly think elite skills are mostly novelty (I’d take an extra utility instead any day).

I like the idea of a direct-fire cannon though. I just don’t think it would happen.

Right now using gear other than magic find presents the opportunity cost of all the loot I’m not getting because I didn’t use magic find. That’s a very large cost. If magic find gear did not exist, then that cost would not exist and I would be able to use whichever stats I wanted without incurring that penalty.

But it does exist right now, so efforts you make toward having it removed, if successful, would also cost you that.

Opportunity Cost. Economics 101.

Does getting someone else to stop you not have the opportunity cost that stopping yourself has? You’re basically saying you don’t want to use magic find gear, but you can’t stop yourself from using it unless somebody removes the incentive. If they did, and you switched to other gear, you would be getting exactly as much loot as you would right now if you just exercised self control and switched to more ‘fun’ gear.

Haven’t leveled engineer to 80 yet, so I’m not sure about endgame. At the moment, I find the flamethrower usable but not really worthwhile for any sake but having a flamethrower. Thumper turrets can be handy. Other turrets suck. Especially the rifle one – that thing would be pathetic even with twice the ROF it has now.

Honestly, I feel like they’re going to end up like my charzooka ‘elite’ racial on my warrior – that is, outclassed in every way by the rifle; a novelty that wastes the place signet of rage could be.

You could bind a mouse button as the secondary for your #1 skill already. It doesn’t interfere with WASD movement that way. Or with some mice you could define a button as being 1.

Anyway: I made a macro for this and it seems semi-decent. I didn’t realize how well I could spam it normally until I discovered how little difference the macro makes.

Regarding the delay, mine is based on me pressing the key (obviously now it doesn’t vary though) because I just let it record the time. It’d be pretty sleazy of them to ban you for a super-fast macro on a skill that doesn’t go any faster because of it, though.

Berserker or Knight?

in Warrior

Knight’s armour refers to armour with toughness, precision and power. It’s a prefix, like ‘strong’ in early levels, not a specific set of armour.

@OP: I’m not sure about your weird stats, but if you’re capable of surviving well enough and aim to put out a lot of DPS, you could probably benefit from a Berserker set and just be a little more careful. Toughness only affects direct damage as it is, so being hit will hurt more but you’ll be used to that level of health when it comes to conditions already.

I was just thinking functionally, the things fire really slowly like an older heavy weapon. I can see why a gun like in BF3 would be a bad idea here since picking people off from a distance would just become the best way to get rid of them, but I don’t think any sort of high-damage long-range rifle skillset necessarily has to be imbalanced that way.

The hipshot is probably the hardest thing TO aim. The other long range rifle shot fires a net that expands, the blunderbuss is… well, a blunderbuss. Overcharge (if that’s what it’s called) relies on the blast power, and as for the launch thing, he’s aiming at the ground.

If he can aim with the hip shot, the rest is a cakewalk, so he might as well fire them all that way.

Flamethrower

The auto-attack being a burst (channel) causes it to miss an entire burst sometimes when only some should have missed. This doesn’t seem to be related to range or invul (says missmissmissmiss etc.) and is probably a bug, but it would be less problematic if the attack was simply a very small ‘puff’ of flame with a high ROF.

The burning duration should be divided up between each hit as well, so you don’t only set things on fire if you land the last part.

in Engineer

LameFox.6349

I’d prefer the main attack became more shotgun-y. Thieves would be a better sniper than engineers, to me… they have the option to just expend all their points (whatever it’s called, I forget now) very quickly for a lot of damage, which would fit quite well with a sniping skillset that had mostly high damage, point-expensive attacks.

Engineers already fire the thing from the hip… making it a shotgun would be pretty fitting IMO. And it wouldn’t even need to change more than one skill, the rest are already pretty handy for mid/close range.

There is truth to this in theme. a theif does give the feeling of wanting to pick someone off with little risk to himself so i totally agree on that. But its the engineers who are wanting it. Lets assume tomorrow they put in sniper rifle for the engineer. Would you quit playing it? would you quit playing the game? Would you just never equip the sniper rifle? would you turn a 180 and realize its actually fun and say F-it and use it all the time?

I wouldn’t care either way, if it was balanced. I just don’t think it really fits in with the class the way they’ve made it so far. Most ranged attacks on the engineer besides hipshot and rifle turrets (if traited) are explosives (grenades, rocket turret, mortar). A thief would be more inherently balanced with a sniper IMO because he could be given an attack that deals very high damage, but it would be inherently costly to him. He would spend the points he uses on all his weapon skills, rather than just (for example) have a long cooldown on that particular attack.

There is no harm in them having it if thats what they want as far as i’m concerned. You just need to theme it to them. Instead of their abilitys being described as long range well aimed attacks. We describe them as using a rifle that has self aiming capabilitys. What if hipshot was called ’steady shot" or “aimed shot”. The ability would remain the same but suddenly you would argue differently about whether he should have it or not.

I was referring to the animation here. The hip shot is actually fired from the hip. It just seems like it would look awesome as a shotgun attack and work well with the other skills.

Often when considering a change to a game “if your a real developer” its best to weigh pro vs con….fun vs anti-fun. How would putting in this feature make the engineer less fun vs more fun. As described earlier it doesnt make it less fun for people who dont like it as they can just choose not to use it, for those who want it it makes the profession more fun. You simply balance it and adjust its abilitys to sound like something it should be doing with that weapon. The only way it would be anti-fun if it’s existance made it dreadfully hard to deal with for other classes…if that happend you would need to balance it so it doesnt, give it an obvious downside to its strengths.

My point is you can put in a sniper rifle type weapon for the engineer and just put in the tooltip an explanation of why hes able to do X attack that fits his theme and bam it works.

Keeping with a theme is also important though. The whole idea of classes is that one doesn’t do everything, else the others become redundant. A sniper on an engineer might be fun, but that doesn’t necessarily imply it belongs there. I’m not saying it doesn’t, either, if it was done properly. I just think there are more fitting classes for that function.
