…No one complains about how…..
This is a lie because I complain about this all the time
Surprise Surprise!
In a dgn situation:
2 mesmers team = very low dps in general, thus not viable.
2 necro team = quite low dps and very bad team support, thus not viable.
2 ranger team = the only value of ranger(2 dps buffs) is being repeated = not needed a 2nd one, better bring some other class instead. In a pvp situation.
2 mesmer team = very low defense on node + repeated roles = not viable.
2 necro team = very bad composition, plus they can’t compete the celestial meta.
2 ranger team = very low defense on node. If you go condition ranger, your team fight ability is very bad. So 2 of them is not viable. When considered all those, thieves really don’t hurt as much as you stated.
2 Mesmers or 2 Engies roaming around is the worst because there are 6 extra bodies that get in the way, combined with stealths and teleports and extra turrets. 2 Rangers can burst from 1500 range. All the examples you talked about are defensive, but when they’re on offense they’re crazy good.
So I was thinking about this, say for example, I just wanted to roam, +1 fights, and gank the crap out of people in sPvP, what would I run? Assuming I don’t care about capping the points.
5/6/0/0/3 D/D? I don’t like standing on the point for fear of AoE bombs that can be dropped from at least 900 range away.
I am one of the few who thoroughly enjoyed this. Is there a way we can make this (along with the sepia filter) some sort of emote or mode I can turn on? Kind of like the bobblehead mode? I will love you guys even more than I currently do
You can always try P/P in PvP :P
You’re asking the wrong question. Instead, ask this question: Why the heck would I care what all of these idiots think of me?
Seriously. Every professional/unique gamer got there from doing whatever the heck they wanted. They didn’t listen to all the nay sayers or the fools who can’t think outside of the box. Run what you want to run and screw the haters.
If you wanna shut them up, get good and whoop their butt. End of story.
The problem isn’t that I care about what anyone says. It just came up because, wow really? There’s nothing a thief can run that isn’t considered “cheesy” as well as having a fellow thief, one of my kind, of your kind, say that to you. I thought we all came from a place of understanding!
Lol thanks for the responses, everyone, you’ve made my day.
The main reason why I say Rangers are brainless is because I could do 10k+ from 1500 range. If I started before thief stealths I could track them. Having a pet with fear / kd is a great addition, plus having invul helps. There are many times where I would come into fights to help them become uneven and I could quickly snipe off low HP characters. Whereas with a thief I run the risk of walking into a stack of AoEs that will instantly down me.
In fighting games, cheese means exploiting something in the system that allows for unfair wins. Like infinite combos or an over powered normal / special move. Running Panic D/P doesn’t fit any of these qualifications. Also, I run with Devourer Venom for extra immobs. :\
This is going to be sort of a ranting post.
I was just in PvP and running the standard D/P 6/0/2/0/6 Panic strike build, and I went to go cap a point. Someone on the opposing side engaged, and after about a minute I was ultimately downed. I get stomped and they proceeded with a “Nice Panic Strike cheese” BY ANOTHER THIEF. I am seriously starting to consider dropping this class that I’ve played since the beginning, and picking up something that doesn’t require a brain like, Ranger or something because it’s gotten to the point where another of my own kind calls me cheese.
I always feel like I’m at a disadvantage, and one game, I was towards the back of the point, and an Ele decides to burst me down from all the way across the point, ignoring everyone else in the way, with insta-cast bull that downs me in 3 or so hits.
So cheese, what is it and why do we have it?
So I’m not sure how many other people feel this way, but when I heard the announcement of Courtyard I was so happy. This new game type that isn’t Conquest, that was closer to the arenas in GW1. However, after jumping into it I was totally disappointed. Everything really zergy and it gets to a point where the fight is literally outside the spawn point of the losing team.
Is there a way or can we add functionality that makes it act like a Team Deathmatch? I’ve been watching some 2v2 that Blu streams occasionally and those are great on this map. I think what I and other players want, is really Team Deathmatch with 2v2, 3v3, 5v5, or anything like that.
Because dying and then respawning before the whole team is wiped kind of encourages a type of “respawn zerg it until you win” style of mindset. If the downed people stay out of the game and were able to spectate other players like GW1 had it, this would make for a fresh game type that requires team comps to be well thought out.
Actually, spectate while dead would help PvE as well, it’s so boring sometimes when you are dead in the corner in a boss fight in Fractals, and you’re left staring at the ceiling.
Just my $0.02, I could be wrong.
I did a search on the forums, and I couldn’t find any posts related, or maybe I typed in the wrong key words, but I figured I’d suggest this anyway.
Since we’re getting an expansion, with new specializations that seem to be hot-swappable, it would be nice to get something where we can save / load current builds easily. Resetting my traits and having to add them back is really a pain in the neck, and sometimes when I WvW, I have to bring a new build with a new armor set and I would forget to reset my traits when I come out of WvW or even go back in. Sometimes I have “fun” builds I like to run for times when I’m bored.
Now, it doesn’t have to be as robust as GW1’s system where you can save armor and weapons too, just as long as we can save the traits / utility skills will be good. We have 3rd party websites that do this already like gw2skills.net. So why can’t this be part of the game itself?
I’m pretty sure I’ve hit a 100k backstab on the dredge boss before…. maybe ._.
I don’t know about you guys, but I like gimping myself in WvW. 16k backstabs? No way, too easy. Just run valk / pack runes and my backstab becomes around 6-8k with food. I thought I’d just give everyone I’m ever fighting a chance. Because, you know, I don’t want anyone to rage at thieves or anything like that. I also take like 1 condition cleanser and maybe, MAYBE my stealth can cleanse one thing per stealth session if I trait for it.
Anyone else feel this way? Maybe I just like the challenge.
(edited by Lamuness.3570)
I’m still amazed that you can backstab for 9k on a necro in pvp. I could never get close to that number.
What does stowing BP do? I’m not sure I see the benefit of it.
I just straight up use the Hexed Outfit. If I had a human I’d use the Ninja Outfit, but mine is an Asura
I’ll post a screenshot later.
That actually works surprisingly well if they’re at 50% lol. I’m a bad player anyway xD.
Has anyone tested if a necro is 25% HP, and has 100% death shroud, will Heartseeker hit at the 75% damage bonus or no bonus at all?
Can someone explain how thieves are a hardcounter?
If I played D/D, I can only CnD so many times, often times, there is a IZerker flying around, when I get the millisecond of unstealth, he whirls into me. I only get to dodge a few times.
If I switch to DP/SB, I clear all the illusions w/ my bow first, they seem to have an unending supply of them, and by the time he runs out, I’m probably at half or less HP, then it seems like they can still make more after that, and my INI is low, or I have a ton of confusion on me.
What am I doing wrong? In both SPvP / WvW. It’s a bit easier in WvW cuz I get to take my time, but in SPvP, someone usually comes in by that time and I get wrecked, or as I’ve said, they just keep poppin out and I just lose due to attrition.
Wait, whaaaat, I thought it was an urban myth that improv works with stolen skills. Is that a true fact?
Looks like a variation of the Life Leech build Woaden posted a while back.
S/D makes me wish I rolled a human for my thief
It’s really hard to gauge distance when you’re an Asuran thief, swinging the wobbly halloween sword.
It helps when I use devourer venom :\
Snip.
Why do you use Improv? Wouldn’t Dagger Training be better for damage?
Sure there is, I run around naked all the time.
I don’t know where this notion of S/D being useless. I seem to get beat by them all the time using D/P.
Also, instagibs don’t work for me, I’d like to be in OP’s position
People usually block or just HAPPEN to dodge my CnD, or they stunbreak it exactly at the time when the impending burst comes in, or are just generally too tanky.
It’s also because you’re using a Thief, people already have an unconscious hate for you. They will QQ if you beat them, and will talk crap if they beat you. It’s dumb. Especially in hotjoin. I had a necro who talked mad crap to me in Skyhammer about how bad I was and how I contributed to the loss of my team because all he did was keep porting in and out, fearing and doing other shenanigans trying to get me to fall off. I was able to kill him about 40% of the time, but he was off the skyhammer for 90% of the time, trying to keep me off of him. In the end, our team lost but we would have been at a higher deficit had he been on the kitten thing for the whole time.
“Players in stealth can no longer cause glass panels to disappear – so players can’t abuse pulls to causing others to fall through holes”
LOL I get pulled by mesmers and engies worse than thieves…. :\
regarding the picture attached
What the hell gave you 21 stacks of might?
I tried this out yesterday and it worked out alright. I feel like whenever I switch to my D/P set I’m not getting a high enough crit chance to backstab anyone. Hitting a non-crit 1.8k backstab is sad. If I switch to Hidden Killer I’d lose out on the Executioner bonus.
Also, 1 Immob and I got killed. I needed to switch out one of the traps for a stunbreak.
Question about this, if they say this Rune of the Thief is supposed to give precision and condi damage, does that mean that is what this class is meant to be like? Or am I reading too much into it.
messiah, it’s funny I was running the trapper build someone linked in here a while back in fractals for fun, and it was doing OK until there was a part where it was really bad. Then I came up with something similar to your setup, and it was the best build.
But I’ve been trying to come up with a power build for p/p that uses master trapper, and I think this might be it. I’ll give it a try later! Thanks for the build!
You can also swap out ricochet for bountiful theft too if you need to. I find that Ricochet on P/P is cool, but it doesn’t proc enough for my tastes.
I don’t think that anything in S/D closes out the fight better, but it gives you a bit more control over what you can do, more dodges and stuff. Just something to consider
You’re more the master of this weaponset than I am at this point. lol.
I see videos of successful thieves and they use Refuge in the middle of the fight. It’s something I have to get used to because I tend to use it too late into the fight and end up dying in stealth
Before I go nuts, “Leech”.
That being said, it looks fun! I’ve been trying to come up with a S/D / D/D build for a while, and yours looks promising. Once you switch into D/D though, it seems like you never switch back. Don’t forget we have 5 more skills available to us because of the initiative system.
So I tried out P/D with Dire / Trapper for a few days. It’s pretty easy to learn. I’m not sure if I like this weaponset. Sure I get a ton of dodges, and access to 5 different ways of stealthing, but for some reason it doesn’t seem fun to me. Enemies players do melt away for the most part, but if I had to try to solo cap a camp, it’s not possible lol. Well, it is, but it only took me all of 10 mins to kill everything and the dredge at the same time. Although if I got snared, feared, or took a knockdown, it was over :\
It’s also pretty funny when I 1v1’d a D/P Thief in WvW. That fight was pretty dumb. And it ended up with me just leaving because I didn’t want to fight for 5 minutes. I think I’m going to go back to the ol’ backstab. Big numbers attract me anyway
I wonder if Rampager is worth it with Ele runes or something that gives power + condi damage. Maybe it will result in a pretty good hybrid.
Wait a minute, I think everyone’s assuming I’m talking about Black Powder Shot (BPS). Not thief Offhand Pistol 5, I’m talking about Blinding Powder (BP). LOL Yes, I know if I shoot someone with 5, a projectile comes out as well as a field gets dropped. Since when does pressing 5 give me stealth other than blasting or leaping thru it?
I’m talking about I use my 7 utility skill even while auto attack cast time is starting, I will get insta-revealed. The same thing happened before when I would want to trigger Shadow Trap while I’m auto attacking. So this being the case, if you’re telling me that I have to untarget first, and then hit blinding powder, it sounds like a work around because again, stealthing stops every other auto attack.
(edited by Lamuness.3570)
snip
That’s awesome, I’ve never thought about using it that way! I’ll give it a try.
???
It’s not broken – You just arent utilizing it the right way… if a bullet is in flight do not stealth – it happens to everyone this is how revealed works
If you are in stealth and want to combo with BP untarget your enemy and use BP so it does not hit anyone then sneak attack your target through the BP to apply some blinds
LOL, I don’t know about that. There isn’t any other instance where BP will insta-reveal you because it stops attacking automatically. You’re telling me, that in order to use this skill I have to stop attacking, THEN use it? Sounds more like a workaround than working as intended.
I’ve been messing around w/ a P/P build and when I’m auto attacking with pistol, sometimes I want to hit the BP button and shoot a sneak attack. BUT! It auto reveals me because I’m already attacking or my bullet is in transit or whatever. Does this still happen to anyone else?
What, I would NEVER engage a mesmer 1v1. I can never seem to out spam or clusterbomb all the kitten illusions they make. That passive damage is stupid. But I’m a bad thief.
Speaking of which, are there videos of good D/P thieves? It’s my favorite weaponset but I can’t seem to do anything good for the life of me. I either get hit w/ 2349839482 conditions, have a hard time dealing with turrets, getting outhealed by guards / wars, killed at 1500 range because rangers RF LULZ, or have a hard time dealing with illusions. And I’ve been playing thief for a long time :\
Is there a list of stealing priority somewhere? Not the current broken one, but what it’s supposed to be?
On the bright side… if everyone left, I would be the best thief in the world!
I’m going to try out revealed training + p/p for absolutely no reason.
Yuo should reroll to dp.
Oh wait, you can’t even BP->HS->Steal into the enemy anymore. We should all roll condi mesmer and get done with this game, honestly
Psh, I’m gonna revive my GW1 Ranger trapper build here in GW2.
I think you can do this w/ Engie. LOL.
I have worked for several game companies and from time to time, there were these “focus tests” where they get a bunch of average joes off from wherever to test the game or a part of the game. More often than not, when I read these feedback documents, they break down into a few different categories:
- The “OMG I’m playing this game before ANYONE!” type – This person doesn’t provide any useful feedback. They agree with what is in the game is what’s going in and already set in stone, and will just give a 10/10 rating to anything.
- The “So I heard there was gonna be free pizza” type – These people have probably never played a game in their life. I am not kidding when I say this. Easy mechanics like cover / aim / dodge are way above their heads.
- The “Vet gamer” type – These are the ones we want. However, sometimes everything is too easy for them and so balance becomes an issue.
Very rarely do I read these questionnaires and take away anything useful. I don’t know what the case may be for ANet, but these thousands of players who they’ve based the NPE on may not have the best opinions on a post-game survey. It is unfortunate.
Forgive me if this has been mentioned, but I don’t frequent this part of the forum.
My suggestion is to allow dead players to spectate other players running around the map. You already have the camera system in place for spectating people in PvP, why not extend it to PvE? It was in GW1 as well, and I would like to see it a part of GW2. That way when somebody dies in a boss fight in fractals, we’re not stuck staring at the ceiling for 10-30 mins. Too many times in the inquest fractal, or the twins fractal boss fight where I’ve been pushed off the edge, landing on something and dying, and not teleporting back to the arena, and I’m stuck there just staring at walls.
I like how ARRRSENAL was corrected several times. LOL. Thanks for the guide!
That’s a good video. Good to know that a fellow Maguuma-n could be successful in WvW as a thief because of the number and size of the kitten zergs we fight. I’m so bad I usually die to condis and just general large outnumbered stuff.
How much are you actually hitting with these crits? Like a backstab does how much?
I’m thinking about this too. It’s not like it gives you any additional loot for doing it by yourself. Is there any advantage for this?
Would you mind posting which songs you put in which playlist? I have tried FFXIV but I haven’t had the time to listen to every track.
In sPvP, at least in hotjoins which I play, having SB on khylo helps me move around the map REAL FAST. You get access to many shortcuts in various parts of the level, and it helps when you are running away or need to decap far. I can’t run my thief in any mode without it :\
