The intro for the Sylvari cutscenes were placed in-game before the redesign of the Sylvari race as a whole. I highly doubt we’ll see these hairstyles in-game.
I know how bad you want that armor, Akai, as do I want this same armor set.
The dance book doesn’t exist in the gem store anymore, in case you looked closer.
IF there were to be a new class/profession, then I’d go with some kind of hybrid dps/spellcaster, that wears medium armor. Kind of like an Eldritch Knight, from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. No, I’m not talking about AD&D, I’m just mentioning a class that could be brought into this game. With a twist!
Yeah…I’d go for that Cactus/Medusa look immediately! First time I saw the post, my heart just stopped beating. You know how to make my day, OP!
Race change is NOT a good idea. Why? It would and WILL screw up your personal storyline from levels 1 thru 30, and after 30 it’s based upon choices you make, regardless of race, but from there on, it depends on which Order you choose to be a part of. However, I can see changing Orders being easily implemented. For my side of things, if ANet chooses to implement an Order change facility, that’s great, just allow the player to use both the former level 80 Order armors/weapons, and the current Order’s weapons/armors.
I agree! There are many, and I mean MANY more emotes in the original Guild Wars, than there are in Guild Wars 2. I mean, come on! Where is my /flex, /violin, etc.?
I like that, and I’ll give you a +9/10. My Sylvari Ranger’s name is Dryad of the Wild.
I’ll give you a +8.5/10. My Norn Guardian is Svanira Coldsteel, and the first “Daughter” of Svanir.
I really like this idea. Most MMOs have the ability to chose sides, so why can’t Guild Wars 2? Isn’t that why the game is called “Guild Wars”; because prior to the original Guild Wars, the guilds chose sides.
I have some correcting from what the OP posted. The only MMO that has used Centaurs as a playable race, happens to be the late Shadowbane MMO. The next MMO w/ Centaurs that should use them as a playable race, should be GW2!
For an expansion, I would like two new playable races; one for each expansion. For a Canthan-style expansion, I’d like to see the Tengu, since there is already the Dominion of Winds, between Lion’s Arch and Kessex Hills. For an Elonian-style expansion, I’d like to see the Centaur, since in Guild Wars: Nightfall, you had Elonian Centaurs aiding the Sunspears and other Humans not loyal to Varesh Ossa. Centaurs can be a playable race, if and only if an Elona expansion comes out. Look and the old MMO known as Shadowbane. That game had Centaur as a playable race, and since then, no other MMO has had a non-bipedal race: Guild Wars 2 can be the return of the Centaur as a playable race.
We could use new weapons and/or weapon types, such as the scythe, polearm, and/or crossbow. (There are bows, and there are firearms, so why aren’t there any crossbows???)
I think we should have more hairstyles. They should come with any random update by ANet. At least share some of the hair from the other races to another race; in example, Norn hairstyles could easily be shared amongst themselves and the Humans. These new hairstyles should come as a small patch, and in character creation, like Aion Onlline did with its hairstyles. Give more of a selection, or variety, of hairstyles for the Asura and Charr, and maybe even Sylvari.
I agree with CharrGirl. I think they should update character creation with more hairstyle options, like Aion has done in the past.
Centaurs could easily be a playable race in the future. Lore could be written in, just like any other game. Look where Shadowbane went, with having centaur as a playable race.
We could definitely use more hairstyles, now that there are ways to change hair color and style. We could use some unlockable hairstyles, similar to the exotic hair colors in the current self-hair kit.
I do not understand why all of a sudden, and YES…ALL OF A SUDDEN, this particular Legandary Bow is being complained and/or hyped about. It has been out since the first Beta Weekend Event, last year in 2012. If anyone was going to hype about it, it would’ve been hyped about at that point in time. It’s a great thing to see, when you compare to how most MMOs have the most dark, and sinister of top-end weapons. I think it’s perfectly fine to “Go to the Light”, instead of “Staying in the Dark”.
We generally don’t release patch information beforehand for the simple reason that things don’t always make it. Sometimes, we have to hold off on a feature at the last minute, and it’s better not to over-promise.
I support your statement, Mr. Vaughn! If Guild Wars 2 were like all the other MMOs out there, and had “Public Test Servers”, then that would be appropriate to post the patch notes of that particular aspect of the game. And, as with every other Test Server, things are subject to change. Entire changes in the patch might be reverted, removed, or even added on to. However, Guild Wars 2 does NOT have a Public Test Server. We have to rely on patience, and intuition, above all things, here in the GW universe, for things to pass. All in good time, my fellow gamers; the patch, as any of the Dev’s would say, will come out when it is ready.
@Riot – No, your friend was correct, about the Jugs of Karma being account-bound, say if you wanted to use them for a different character, it’s just the Karma provided is linked to the character you use the consumable with. You should’ve kept those jugs in your bank vault, to use with a different character. It’s ok though, you made a mistake; but don’t say your friend was wrong, because he was actually right about what he said.
It wouldn’t be difficult. It would be pointless and ridiculous.
Why is it pointless? I have a Charr Necromancer that I dont like because, well, it’s i Charr in light armor.. I would pay for a race change since I have 300+ hours on him, the dyes I want, full explorer. BUT, I’m not satisfied with the look of armors because most of them has clipping issues.
Ummm…that’s why you pick the character race/class combo you like the MOST as your first character. Sound familiar? Please, don’t bring WoW-elements into the Guild Wars universe. Race/Gender change is a WoW thing, and when it comes down to it, GW is far more realistic than WoW – always has been. I have a question for you, Sir. ANet never planned for GW to be so unrealistic. There’s still real-life elements to it…such as not being able to change your race. You realize, that in real life, you can never change the fact you are human, to become some other sentient being. Unless you went through drastic measures and chose to live your life in the wilds, but even that is unreasonable. If it’s unreasonable in real life, it should be unreasonable in PC games, and it IS unreasonable. WoW is currently the only PC game that offers Race Changes, though it shouldn’t have had. The happiest of people don’t have everything they want; they make the best of what they already have. You had the ability to create the perfect character for yourself, and chose to settle for less – deal with it! I’m not trolling at all. I’ve noticed several people bringing in WoW elements into this game in particular, but why THIS game? Why not the other MMOs out there? But, just to note, to expect ANet, a very down-to-Earth company, it’s very unlikely to implement something that is unreasonable to provide. Also, WoW is unlike all other MMO’s w/ traditional quests, because the quests in WoW are actually shared across ALL races/genders. Most other MMO’s, even traditional questing, have at least a gender/race lock, for dialogue purposes. To request a Race Change, is to ask the entire company to redesign all of GW2, at its very base itself, all over again. Might as well ask to have all servers shut down too, while you’re at it. Again, I’m not trolling; my point is…Race Changes are unreasonable to provide. This is just my opinion on the matter, supported by clear evidence.
Almost all the NPCs will talk to you about something if you click on them. Many are quite funny, too. The thing I hate about traditional quests are the immersion-breaking icons floating over their heads and even worse, the boring slog from one side of a map to the other just to hand in my 10 sticks of firewood or whatever. Such a waste of time.
Actually, if you were to harken back to the days of RPG’s, before MMO’s were a popular thing. Try playing some old-fashioned Baldur’s Gate, or Neverwinter Nights (the original, first BG and NWN). You’ll notice that the quest givers have absolutely zero quest indicators floating over their heads. Instead, you have a whole journal, which is updated after each step of the quest you perform. Most traditional quests have you start at point A, then arrive at point B, to turn in your quest. Much more stream-lined, than the Renown Hearts in GW2. Besides…it’s the Personal Storyline, in GW2, that is more like the traditional quest. Personal stories do in fact, have you run from one end of the zone map to the other, and go all the way BACK to point A. So, progression for traditional quests would seem to be: Point A to Point B; Personal Storylines are usually Point A to Point B, maybe even a Point C, but usually back to Point A, at some point. You really do more running around in Personal Storylines, than in Traditional Quests.
I think the Ranger could use a bit of a combat tweak. Some Rangers are truely Marksmen, and do not use pets at all. Take a gander at the Warden Scouts in the Grove and everywhere else there are Sylvari NPCs. Some of the Wardens have Fern Hound pets, but most don’t have any pets at all. I think Marksmanship/Skirmishing traited Rangers should have an option to stow their pets during combat.
No, you’re all incorrect; this is not a bug, nor incomplete. The PvE version of the PvP Masquerade skin (Tribal skin for PvE aspect) was actually in-game during beta, but was removed by ANet by launch in August, seeing there was not a PvP version of the PvE Masquerade skin available anywhere in-game whatsoever. Another PvP armor skin that is not available in PvE is the Rubric skin. Only the chestpiece, of the Rubric set, is available, and can only acquired from one of the high-level personal storyline rewards.
Also, I don’t understand why people keep posting about this, because I keep giving the OP’s the same answer all the time I do post my replies. Yet, this same issue keeps coming back up. We were all given an update about it prior to the 3rd and final Beta Weekend Event, if I’m not mistaken, back in April, 2012.

Oh…I’ve done mouse-overs many times before…and with Norn forms, those that have chain attacks, they do list each individual skill, in that given slot, usually the first slot, though it’s not an auto-attack, per say, because you have to activate each skill manually, one after the other. Some of the 1st slot skills might have cooldowns, associated with them. But, I agree.. there should be a weapon skill recognition of the Norn form attacks skills, Guardian tome skills, Elementalist conjured weapons, etc, etc.
This suggestion you have, has already been implemented, since beta. I have a lvl 64 Norn Guardian, who uses both the tomes and the Norn Forms, and when I activate those elite skills, my weapon skills are replaced with different skills, that are exclusive to either the tomes, or the Norn forms. It’s not missing at all, you just don’t notice the skills on your skill bar.
No! You should be making a shortcut of the Gw2.exe file, located in your game’s installation folder, and renaming the shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair”. Then, you edit its properties, without having to touch the desktop icon itself. The target line should look like this: “C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” Add “-repair” to the end of the string, with a space in between the string and “-repair”, so it should look like “C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair No need to touch the desktop shortcut whatsoever! This is the preferred way, to create a Repair executable. You can also do the same with an Error Log executable, by using “-log” in place of “-repair”.
Anyways, it seems you are getting the exact same issues I am having. And, it’s not what you think it is. I took this a step further, and used the Support page provided to us, by the Guild Wars 2 website, and they explained to me that these errors I’ve been getting are what we call “out of memory” errors, which result in game client crashes, and possibly graphics issues, such as your mouse cursor turning into a black rectangle, or perhaps a teal background/border appearing around the in-game panels, such as the Bank tab, or the Gem Store/Trading Post tab. It’s too complex for me to actually explain myself. So, I highly recommend creating a Support Account, if you haven’t done so already; perhaps PlayNC Support will explain it better. Hope this helps you a lot.
Yes! Someone actually understands my frustrations! I have this exact same problem too. I took it a step further, and reported it to PlayNC Support. I do not know if it is actually safe to qoute PlayNC’s responses, but I can tell you that the issue does not lie in the Guild Wars 2 client. Instead, it’s more about the fact that you’re using a 32-bit operating system, and have greater than 3G.B of RAM, or memory. Yes, it is very complex; for example, if you have 4.0G of RAM, and run a 32-bit OS, the OS will only utilize 3.5GB of RAM. If, like myself, you have around 4.0G of RAM, then all I can say is that we have to upgrade our operating systems. These errors we are getting are what are called “out of memory” errors, and result in crashes, and quite possibly even graphics issues.
This problem started happening to me, when my game client first crashed originally, about 3 weeks ago. And, this happens every day, and it doesn’t matter what the time of day is. The first thing that happened was the game client crash, and then graphics issues; a teal border appearing around in-game panels, such as the bank tab, or the Trading Post/Gem Store tab. Also, my mouse cursor often turns into a black rectangle, after a certain amount of time of being logged into the game. When these graphics issues appear, they lead to a crash.
I hope I was able to answer your question, Skithryx. I recommend setting up a PlayNC Support Account, via Guild Wars 2 official site, if you have not already. On the main webpage, click “SUPPORT” located next to “FORUMS”, in the top-most banner of the site. This will open a new tab, and take you to a PlayNC Support page, dedicated and used solely for Guild Wars 2. The account you make is separate from your Guild Wars 2 game account, and are not linked to each other – so you need to remember the account info that you register with. It is used mostly for technical issues, like the ones you and I are experiencing.
@Dark Revan – The Tribal armor, was removed from the PvE aspect of the game, as of the first Beta Weekend Event, back in April of this year. The PvP version, however, still exists, and is able to be previewed from the PvP Lockers, located in the Heart of the Mists zone, for structured PvP. Note, that the PvP Tribal armorset is named “PvP Masquerade Armor.” Don’t confuse it with the PvE Masquerade armorset, which does not exist in PvP; they are two different armor skins, and have different sets of stats.
Actually, the latest patch was when they broke this hairstyle’s animation, and only this hairstyle. I also noticed, that at the same time, they animated the Twilight Arbor exotic light armor, on the female models (Human, Sylvari, Norn), as of the patch this past Thursday, in preparation for Lost Shores.
Well, the female Sylvari emotes, except for the dance emote, are the exact same as the Human female emotes. True fact. I have both a Human female and a Sylvari female, and the only real difference about them are their dance emotes, and their idle animations. All other emotes, as well as combat animations, are exact replicas of each other. Honestly, there needs to be some diversity here, seeing Norn females have slightly different emotes, compared the female Humans/Sylvari.
The tribal set the OP is referring to, was actually removed from the PvE poriton of the game. It used to be called “Tribal”, and it was removed, after the final Beta Weekend Event, back in June. There are quite a few forums that discuss this, on various sites; just use your search engine to look up “Guild Wars 2 Tribal Armor”.
And, I might add, in order to transmute an item, you must unequip the item first.
I think that the pistol should be a main-hand weapon for Mesmers. It doesn’t make sense to have the pistol as an off-hand, without it being a main-hand; kind of like the Thief, or Engineer, who dual wield pistols.
Along with many others, I too have thought of this idea. There should be Barbershop NPC’s which, for a simple in-game currency fee, would allow you to change your hairstyle and/or haircolor. There should also be hairstyles, that are not available during character creation, which could be added to the Barbershop, if oneself unlocks these hairstyles via the Gem Store.
I, for one, would love to have this implemented into the game, because I have my Female Human Elementalist, who would like to have a hairdo similar to the Female Norn hairstyles.
- What kind of continents/areas would you like to explore in expansions?
I would like to travel to Elona, and it makes more sense, lorewise, to explore Elona before exploring Cantha, since Elona is part of the Tyrian supercontinent, and we have [limited] contact with survivors. Both the Tyria and Elona share the Crystal Desert, as regions. I loved the African themes in Nightfall; Istanis & Vabbians were much like your average Eygptians, and Kournans were those desert/savannah-dwellers.
- Would you like to play new races in expansions? (if yes: which ones?)
Yes, I would like to see new races. Perhaps only one new race, for the first major expansion. Right now, I would love to see the Elonian Centaurs be made as a playable race. If you think back to Guild Wars: Nightfall, the Elonian Centaurs supported the Human Sunspears. Elonian Centaurs would never get along well, with the Tyrian Centaurs, because Elonian Centaurs aided Humans in the past. The only MMO, with a history of having Centaurs as a playable race, was Shadowbane – which is long since dead. I think it’s time to resurrect the Centaur, as a playable race in MMO’s – GW2 can be that MMO.
- What could be the final bosses of expansions?
I was personally thinking about toppling down Palawa Joko and his undead minions, within the Desolation in Elona. The heart of the scourge would still be located in the Desolation, with remnant forces in Istan, Kourna, and Vabbi.
- Should they add more levels? (ex: maximum 100)
No! Level 80 is perfectly fine. However, I would like to see stuff like new weapon skins, new weapons themselves along with associated skills. The new weapons I would like to see, are the Spear (not the underwater Spear), and the Scythe. I do not want to see new professions, but I would like to see sub-classes implemented into existing classes, having benefitted from new weapon combinations, while still using the existing in-game mechanics, such as using the existing trait-system. Of course, there would need to be new animations for the new weapons. For example, the Dervish could be introduced, as a sub-class, within the Elementalist profession, because many of the Dervish skills in Nightfall, had elemental damage and conditions associated with them; the Dervish, was the only MELEE profession, which wore LIGHT armor. Mythicism skills had Holy damage as its basis. Holy damage itself could easily be transcribed into the Fire Attunement, with BLUE firey effects, rather than ORANGE. Earth Prayers would obviously be migrated into the Earth Attunement; Wind Prayers to be divided up between Air and Water Attunements, and your most basic of Scythe attack skills, (those that don’t cause conditions, or heal you), could be in the Arcana trait. This shouldn’t take much more time to implement, than it would to create a brand new profession.
- What kind of dungeons would you like to explore in expansions? (ex: UW)
Depends on the type of dungeon. I would like to discover the roots of any living Elonian, still living in Elona, so this type of dungeon could be a Discovery dungeon. This means that you look at artifacts and read texts from the past generations, and yes, you’ll have to face enemies here and there – what is a dungeon without a hostile creature? I would like to see a dungeon in every region in Elona. For example, one of the dungeons, possibly located in Kourna, could have to do with the descendants of the Kournans, from Guild Wars: Nightfall. We know for a fact that Ossa name died with Varesh Ossa, so we would never see that name in Guild Wars 2; however, we do learn that Koss (a hero from the Nightfall campaign), is from the Dejarin line, and that he has a father and a sister. We also learn that he falls in love with Melonni, (also a hero from Nightfall), both of whom were born in Kourna. Koss hints to us, in a late-game conversation with Princess Tahlkora, about creating a family with Melonni. So, it’s safe to assume that Koss and Melonni had kids, and that their kids had children of their own, as well. So, it’s possible we could see the Dejarin surname in Guild Wars 2, or some variation of it.
The title of this expansion could be “Rise of the Centaurs”, “Elona: Land of the Golden Sun”, or “Elona’s Timely Rebirth”.
(edited by Lancaeron.1524)
I would play as a centaur, if it were possible. I hope it’s added as a playable race, in a future expansion. Remember in Guild Wars 1, the Elonian centaurs assisted the Sunspears. So, I’m sure that if they release the Elona expansion, that the Elonian centaurs could be a future playable race. That, and I’m sick and tired of being a two-legs. The only MMO with a history, of the centaur being a playable race, was Shadowbane, and that has been long since dead. We could use another game with that history, and Guild Wars 2 can be that game!
Hello! I know a lot of you people out there are wondering about this nudity that is being seen across all servers in this game. I’ve seen this for myself, just earlier today, so bear with me, as this is something that is brand spanking new. From what I’ve seen, this problem only happens when a female player model (Human, Norn, or Sylvari) equips the Apprentice light armor skin – you know, the armor you see on newly created Scholar professions (Elementalist, Mesmer, Necromancer). I see a lot of people are posting about this, thinking it is a hack. Well, it is; assuming someone had access to the Guild Wars 2 system, thus created and downloaded these files, to overwrite an armor skin. But, for now, it’s considered a bug, since only speculation can be made, about how this came to be. Would like a red post here, please; I request one. I believe a that a red post would be useful, to actually confirm how this has happened, seeing that the problem is in the game’s database.
EDIT: I’ve seen a screenshot, in a previous thread, and I noticed that the gloves and boots were not that of the Apprentice armor skin. So, I stand corrected. Still, I am being lead to believe that this problem is in the game’s database, because everyone can see this nudity, no matter what version of Windows they have, or which game server they place on. If this were a mod patch, then it would only be visible by those who downloaded the patch.
(edited by Lancaeron.1524)
I’ve been posting about this same exact problem since September 5th! In fact, I’ve made about 4 posts about this issue. Nobody has gotten back to me. I’ve posted this on both the Game Bugs subforum and the Technical Bugs subforum. Nobody will respond.
This is actually a BUG, due to the fact that it only happens, when a female model equips the Apprentice armor skin – you know…the armor you see on newly created Scholar professions. I’ve been searching Google and MSN.com, to see if this was a nudemod, and I can’t find anything related. Thus, I have come to conclude that this is a bug. I think it’s safe to speculate, that someone may have hacked the Guild Wars 2 system, thus adding the nude skin to the game.
EDIT: I saw a screenshot, in a previous thread, and I noticed that the boots and gloves were not that of the Apprentice armor skin. So, I stand corrected. It is safe to speculate, that the problem is in the game’s database, since everyone can see this nudity.

Well, if you think about it…the holy trinity of dps, tanking, and healing isn’t completely gone. Think carefully. An Elementalist is a hybrid class; perfectly capable of all 3 roles: Fire and Air Attunements for dps, Water for healing, and Earth for tanking. The holy trinity system is still there, but it’s just all lumped together within a single, given class – use the above as an example. Now, Mesmers, on the other hand, are all about control. Their attack skills usually “debuff” their enemies, as well as summoning illusions, for crowd control. Guardians are also a hybrid class; able to perform all 3 roles. Warriors can be used for tanking or dps. A Necromancer also uses crowd control, in the form of summoning her undead minions to attack for her. The only two classes that are solely used for damage, are the Ranger and the Thief. I hope you guys find my point of view to be an interesting outlook.
As has been comfirmed many times over, new patches for the time being, are scheduled for Mondays at midnight Pacific Standard Time.
EDIT: Otherwise, 3 am EST, on Tuesday mornings.
Yes, I saw the same thing in Lion’s Arch, on the Yak’s Bend server just a few hours ago. This is very well detailed. And, this is something brand spanking new, because it just happened today! This apparently happens when a female player model (Norn, Human, or Sylvari) equips the Apprentice light armor skin, the armor you see on newly created female Scholar professions.
EDIT: I’ve been searching Google and MSN.com, to see if this is a nude mod patch, and I can’t find anything relative to it. Because this is happening to EVERYONE, regardless of what server we are all on, I conclude that this is NOT a mod – clearly the fault of something else.
(edited by Lancaeron.1524)
Personally, I’d get cracking with putting the NPC’s back in their original places, because when this first started, last week on Tuesday, everybody and their mother, including myself, was confused, as in to why one of the Bank NPC’s was on the staircase, outside of the Bank/Vault building, near the Trader’s Forum Waypoint. And, this will only get worse, because it will cause confusion for the newer players, that are still coming into the game, and will join in, in the future. I hope this is being addressed in tonight’s patch, but I do not know for sure, so I ask for confirmation.
I think that we should be able to zoom our cameras in, so that we don’t see our characters, while taking screenshots. Kind of like we could do in the original Guild Wars.
Where does Dark Knight, Shaman, Samurai and Witch even come from?
I havn’t seen any of these names mentioned anywhere.
That’s why this topic is under the “Suggestions” sub-forum. You can have original ideas, brought into the game, you know? They don’t have to be suggestions that improve an existing part of the game. So, in essence, it really does not matter, whether these have been mentioned before, or not.
We already have a “Samurai”-esque type class. That role is filled by the Warrior. A Dark Knight, however, I see as being the opposite of a Guardian, with dark, unholy powers. A Shaman, could easily be referred to as a Norn Elementalist, or perhaps the Guild Wars 1 Ritualist. A Witch, I assume, would basically be any of the 3 spellcasters we already have in-game – one who casts magic. Personally, I would like to see the Dervish make a comeback, or maybe have a melee-based spear-wielding class, similar to a Phalanx.
Hello! I’ve noticed, over the past week, that there are NPC’s, in Lion’s Arch, on the Yak’s Bend server, in the Trader’s Forum Waypoint general area, who have been misplaced. This includes: Miyani, the Necromancer and Guardian Trainers, and the nearby Hylek. I have screenshots to show these NPC’s present location, as opposed to their original, starting location.
Personally, I’d love to have centaurs as a playable race, in the future. I’m sure there are people, like myself, who are sick of being a two-legs, in every MMO we’ve ever played. What better race than the centaurs? They have both male and female models and voices. I think the animations would be the same, across both genders, sort of like how they are the same, for male/female Charr, and male/female Asura.
I’ve noticed…I’m nearing level 50, on my main, and all the armor bought at armorers looks exactly the same. I say that the level 30 through 50 armor, should have their skins changed, from the “newbie” Apprentice armor skin, to something better, and more stylish, but not as stylish as the high-level, or dungeon armor.
