Even a 51% win rate over a large enough number of matches will advance you.

Once you can lose pips and tiers for losses, those 49% of your matches that you lose will have you not really advancing much at all for weeks, I think.

You mean your 4 other team members, and you, have been dominating.

Using the words “play solo” implies that you are in charge of your fate, as you are in PvE mob farming.

In reality, “playing solo” only means “playing on a team that does not communicate and therefore does not follow a plan effectively”

Of course we then mostly lose when we play in a random PUG that is not able to coordinate a plan.

Is it even possible to play Stronghold without good comms?

Is there an optimal plan for a solo player to drastically increase his PUG’s chances in Stronghold? Without relying on the others to look at chat?

And that’s with a good team on voice comms.

I don’t think a soloQ PUG has a chance, because they would be facing coordinated teams.

Is it even possible for a team to advance to, say Diamond level in 8 weeks with a 60% win rate (which is the norm with matchmaking giving you tougher opponents)?

Remember those 40% that you lose will REMOVE pips, and even tiers if you get into a bad streak.

This is playing a reasonable amount of time per day, say a few hours a night.

What is unique about the Revenant? What is the general Revenant damage strategy and damage mitigation strategy, compared to other melee classes?

I want to create a DragonHunter to see what the fuss is about.

I created a new character and I am not sure how I make it a DH. I cannot seem to choose the DH specializations.

Do I need to PvE to a certain level? I thought it was all unlocked.

Morwath, thanks. Do you have to be a level 80 in PvE to do this? Or can you start a new character at level 2 and still make, say, a Druid in PvP?

Why is it that I only see Revenant as an elite option when I create a new character?

I really do not want to have to grind honor points just to try an elite class. All I do is PvP. I have no interest in PvE.

Seems like the big skill is learning to watch the minimap just a few seconds and know pretty much what the enemy is doing and what your team is doing. And where you can most help.

If your team is not defending and they are through your first gate and have three players at the second, you need to get there, and call for some help as well. UNLESS you have their Lord down to about 20% and most of his defenders gone.

Unfortunately, this is still a learning stage and your assigned teammates often have tunnel vision and just do one thing over and over, losing.

I don’t want HotJoin-mentality players doing hotjoin-attitude on my team goofing around in unranked or ranked matches.

DBs die fast once they are near the gate. Not so fast when they are still in the lane, I find.

1. Spawn 5 DBs or 1 archer and 4 DBs.
2. Either 4 or all 5 players push down the offensive lane, clear off treb and kill outer guards. Keep DBs alive with cleanses and heals.
3. When the outer gate dies, CC and nuke the NPC guards so they can’t one-shot the DBs. Keep DBs alive until inner gate is down.
4. Graveyard zerg lord until it dies. Mage NPC does a lot of damage, so killing it helps.

As long as 1 DB makes it to inner, you can keep it up and get the gate down. If enemy players are focusing the DBs, they aren’t focusing you, so you can CC and down them easily. Once inner gate is down, the rest of the map doesn’t matter.

It would seem the other team would be doing the same exact thing in the other lane, unopposed.

I had a good match playing a bunker bomb/turret engineer protecting the lord.

Also good against doorbreakers, archers and champions, they walk in a line and you can run ahead of them and lay bombs in front of them.

How about a bunker that can heal your Lord? Is he healable?

What is it Morwath?

OK, it’s not conquest. You need to protect your NPCs and you need to kill their NPCs.

You need to deny them supply at the central depot.

And you need to kill their Lord and his/her support NPCs.

What type of build or profession is better here than in Conquest matches?

Any Stronghold players here with experience and thus opinions worth listening to?

My teams keep losing in Stronghold. How can I best help?

I think you might be looking at different traits. The quote you just put is from the Vampiric Master tier Minor trait, whereas Transfusion is the bottom of the Grandmaster Major traits.

Vampiric does heal you with minion attacks, Transfusion however heals the minions for around 700 per tick (9 ticks) in Cleric gear, for a 6.3k heal for all your minions, which keeps them alive through enemy AoE damage.

Thanks! And the tooltip for that one does not mention minions. This is one of the shortcomings of GW2. It feels unfinished and unprofessionally done. I have been a software development manager and user interface specialist for major companies.

If you create complex software, provide good user documentation, don’t say “have fun figuring out even the basics through experimentation!”

No. MM should be played with Cleric gear, and you don’t need the personal tankiness. Transfusion offers far more for the build.

I like every the cushion of 54 k total health potential in a bursting environment like this. You really think a transfusion to keep up with a bursting? It seems hard to believe.

Slower than we expect. They have again and again shown since launch that they “shave” power away slowly, rather than outright nerf it, UNLESS they see something blatant. (And one person’s definition of blatant may not be that of the developers).

I am afraid I am ignorant on this. How can the Ether Signet gives a faster duelist?

Speaking of Rangers, I think this patch has tried to nudge all classes into certain roles and playstyles, and the Ranger is not meant to be purely an archer, but is instead crafty, dodging a “woodsman” melee/range hybrid, with a pet that is essential to the full attack package.

It’s OK to keep a twitch class build or two, as long as the designers can come up with a few mechanics that let a person who is older and slower, but smart and strategic, still win 1v1s and skirmishes.

I am not saying the alternative should be brain dead easy. It should require smarts and experience, even when you cannot do amazing reflex response patterns on the keys.

Right now I just avoid skirmishes and 1v1s and try to stealth around stealing points back, or bunkering with minion master.

I have played a mesmer and gotten my butt handed to me in this new burst meta.

I don’t know who you were paying against, but mesmers die reasonably fast to experienced opponents who know how to play.

I am a “seasoned” player. So I’m not as quick as I used to be, but I love to play this game.

Yet this new patch has things happening so quick I just don’t have time to think. I cannot grasp what’s going on quick enough before I am on my butt.

Any suggestions on what build I could play that gives me more time to think and size up a situation rather than have to have my fingers blurring the keys to survive?

I cannot keep up as a “twitch” player. People who are young and very, very fast twitchers now won’t be able to either, as the years pass. Just the way it goes.

That’s what I want. A sword power spec is always “out front” juking and dodging like a melee fighter. I want something that only the mesmer can do.

Ppl dont realise, but the reason we got a complete overall to mechanics, blance, trait and skills, during a live running fuctioning game is because they wanted to give it a test on live enviorment before it goes into HOT. in meny ways its a beta test, and I kinda enjoy it.
When HoT arrives they’r expecting lots of new players and old players coming back, I hope our effort will gve them soft entrance to a well blanced eviorment with almost no bugs.

I think this person is onto something. Look for adjustments at HoT time.

A necro without some team support is still a dead necro.

They have not become anything like a CC Hammer warrior or a Guardian in the new patch. They have almost no stability. No stealth. No escape mechanism. They can’t CC you forever. They just have a lot of health and they can toss conditions in a burst, which you can cleanse.

PU Boring and cheesy to play against, similar to shadow arts thief. Stealth and oneshot with little to no counterplay. Will probably need to be nerfed to at least 50% or something. Personally i would replace it with a more fun trait.

And just how does a PU mesmer one-shot somebody?? With what?
