Really, claiming “this or that build is mine” basically boils down to a weiner waving contest. It reflects badly for all involved.
Now that made me laugh!
I suppose there is a legitimate feeling of pride at discovering good ideas, though. But no, you do not own them.
Ceimash,
Check back in on Dec. 15th, a few weeks, and tell us if you are still as happy.
Why? What’s happening on Dec 15?
You’re enjoying the game even with all of the imbalanced classes and bunkerfests…..?
More power to you, I suppose.
The game can be pretty painful if you don’t know what you’re doing but, thankfully I know how to beat every single class in the game atm. The only problem I have is stomping them without the bug telling me “nope”.
Nothing special is happening on Dec. 15th. It’s just a few weeks ahead. See how things feel by then.
Maybe keeping solo people (i.e. PUGs generally ineffective due to lack of voice comms and non-optimal team makeup) in the amber division was a side effect they intended.

@OP:
No, the fact that ANET can’t find someone to figure out how to code matchmaking that works is the problem.
I don’t think you understand the matchmaking problem.
You cannot make an even match-up when the people for an evenly-matched opposing team do not exist in the queue.
That’s it. The entire problem.
You got a high school football team waiting to be matched. And you have only a college players waiting in the queue.
Find a good match.
You cannot.
Don’t blame the matcher.
It took me a while but I, too, came to accept that as a soloer I am never going to be getting near any high league level. Probably stay in emerald, along with all the other soloQ people.
In a way, it relaxed me. Now I can go back to just trying to better my own performance and try different builds.
LOL, it requires teamwork to win, though. Nobody is supposed to actually play by themselves in soloQ, the combat mechanics and scoring still require teamwork. Conquest PvP isn’t PvE mob grinding all by yourself.
They “sacrifice” soloQ (to use your words) because it would cost resources to create a solo queuing system. Plus, they may believe that if players do not have a good experience unless they are on teams, they will take more effort to create and join a team.

I’m not spinning it. I’m talking about something else. Is it worth spending the money on solo queue PvP? What’s the downside to letting it just be teams? It’s not like they’re going to get more subscriptions from people just wanting to buy the game to play solo pvp.
I for one remember soloQ being a terrible experience similar to hotjoin. I remember anyone who actually wanted to try solo’d in teamQ.
Do you remember why?
People just did their own thing and did not try to work as a team. I do not recall people trying to form strategies and elect a leader at the start.
I remember SoloQ… I soloQ’d teamQ at the time because the games in soloQ were garbage.
I remember that, too. SoloQ was more like hotjoin.
It’s not a subscription game. They have made their return on the original investment.
They now could just stop expansions and shut down servers if new sales are not enough to support the server costs.
And go build something new.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
No, it is the reason ArenaNet exists as a corporation, to make money. They cannot donate software. They need to make money from it.
I think they have decided that it’s team sports or nothing, as far as sPvP.
They will leave hotjoin in, for messing around solo.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Guild Wars 2 is a financial success. Google it. What do they need solo sPvP for? There is no subscription.
If sPvP soloQ people went away, how much would it cost ArenaNet?
The game has already been a financial success. It’s three years in. There are still lots of happy PvE people. They will buy the next expansion for PvE.
sPvP has always been a side thing. Especially solo play; the game is designed as a team sport with high group coordination needed.
If you think there would be a cost to losing solo sPvP players at this point, please say how much, and explain your reasoning.
There are not enough players in the pool to give good matches sometimes.
They seem to have designed this to take forever. One step forward, one step back.
If a guild remove a team, then just remove it from guild ladder…
Nice solution. Easy and fast.
Just give known pro team members Diamond and enforce the cutoff. Keep them away from the lower-skilled teams and solo players.
MMR is there for a reason.
Seems like a lose-lose for ArenaNet.
Relax the matchmaking so the top people can farm the players who are learning.
The ambers stop playing.
The top players wait too long, and they quit as well.
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Let’s see where this is at in 14 days. Seriously. By then all the soloQ people with dreams of moving up will have stopped playing. Pro teams will see what lies ahead for them to get their Legendaries, and may just stop farming.
Then changes may come.
Agree. It’s likely a management decision to do this to foster teams for ESports. Use the combat system the way it was designed from the start.
Once people DO find a team and a TS server, they will probably have a whole lot more fun that tryhard soloQing.
There is still hotjoin for just messing around.
Well at least they have a LADDER CUTOFF in the matching. Thank goodness.
Please keep the Sapphires+ out of the Amber pool.

To the OP:
ur teammate has full hp and 1v1 at home. do u leave him and +1 mid? do u +1 home? u leave him; he dies and loses home, is it ur fault? u +1 home and u guys don’t get mid, is that ur fault?do u stomp, cleave or bleed them out?
do u rez or go for the rally?
can u tell wen someone says ‘i got home’ or ‘go mid’ in chat, can u tell if it was said 1min ago or 4mins ago when ur in the middle of combat and can’t really look at the timestamps?
communication is a team-queue strategy, and nearly impossible to replicate in solo-queue.
solo-queue is where u need to make the calls on ur OWN. if u can’t trust them to 1v1, then u +1 that fight and if they blame u for losing mid then so be it.
Don’t be that guy that tries to play like a team queue wit a bunch of solo queuer’s. solo queuer’s got their own way of doing things. let the team queuer’s do their thing and solo queuer’s do theirs.
This guy gets it.
But knowing how to be good in SoloQ is really hard. You just have to “know” a lot of things and recognize common situations. You have to know counter strategies to lots of enemy moves. You have to know classes in and out.
In many ways, following an assignment in a TEAM on instant voice comms is MUCH easier.
They could essentially tell MMR to relax completely and just match anyone with anyone.
But they are not going to rewrite the entire matching system to use League tiers for matching anytime soon. They do not have the staff allocated to do that. It would take a few months of programming and testing.
Besides, most of the staff is probably working on the Holiday in-game WintersDay event.
There are not enough players at your level for a competitive match, Collero.
No I am low amber still.
Has the population dropped already?
I am sitting in Q for 6 minutes this afternoon.
Maybe they tightened up the matchmaking to wait longer for a decent, fair match without pros in it?
I am currently working on defense in Stronghold. What class seems optimal to destroy doorbreakers who are being escorted by an enemy player?
I am thinking a tanky class with AOE? Ideally could also heal the Lord later.
Thoughts?
Is there a leaderboard that shows the current division of sPvP players (amber I-II…Diamond, etc?)
May I have the link? I cannot find it, only the old leaderboard.
And is there a link to the guild teams leaderboard?
It’s REALLY silly that going up in divisions basically requires win streaks when the GAME itself tries to keep you from getting them.
This is the gist of it. One system actually works against the other.
Even the systems are competing.
E-SPORTS!
That’s funny.
Is there a way to see where the pro teams are in pips? I want to follow their progress. This should be interesting an a few weeks.

Ain’t THAT the truth.
With good matchmaking, you essentially slow to a tiny crawl. Win 2, lose 1, win 1, lose 3, win 2…
“Hey guys, look! I played for a week, every day, and I have 1 more pip than I had a week ago!”
(edited by Laserbolt.6731)
Thanks. I’ll take a look.
Where do we see these rankings?
I suspect when they did the Powerpoint slide show of this planned league implementation, someone may likely have asked: “But how do we get enough people to regularly play for the matching required”?
And the answer likely was, “It is our hope that people will be really excited about the pips and the rewards and a LOT more people will play regularly.”
Let’s see how the Qs look after 14 days when a lot of tired people have lost very hard-won pips to pro teams farming on Twitch.
Your solution would, unfortunately, require programming code and testing. They just don’t do that kind of thing very often.
Look how long it took them to create software programming for the leagues they promised, what, more than a year ago, was it?
So, then, it’s a yes. They will be matched with whomever is in the Q at the moment, regardless of MMR, and league rank. Preference would be to create close matches, but as before, he matcher eventually just throws the lambs to the lions.
If your MMR is at Pro League level, then you will probably end up being matched vs pro league teams. Leagues seem to be a non-factor in match making, although its hard to tell so far.
Assuming there are enough in the Q at the moment.

Just wondering if in a couple of weeks there will be so few active sPvPers in Ranked Q at Diamond Level that Pro teams working toward Legendary status will do it farming Ambers, Emeralds, Sapphires…whatever is in the Q at any given moment?
If so, that would be absolutely ridiculous.

Playing better games is really a option OP, i’m actually having fun on them. Sadly GW2 is going downhill after the xpac, now they want to force everything in your throat and what remains is only the bad taste.
What other new games are you enjoying?
It’s already a little better at amber. When I started earlier today, I lost 8 in a row before I got my first pip. This evening the games are more equal and I won again.
Seems difficult if the matcher is putting you with challenging opponents.
I don’t think ArenaNet employees are really allowed to answer here. At least, I don’t think they are allowed to speak their minds to criticize management decisions.
“But the real question is, has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?”
Could you say this in another way? What did you mean?
So anyone at 51%+ can reach legendary…
But probably not by January 25th, given the number of waking, non-working hours in a day.
In actual practice, you can get about 4 matches in an hour.
