Only ‘monthly fee games’ have enough money to ‘speed develop’ ‘player demanded’ content. The sooner people realize this, the sooner they will forgive Anet for not being perfect.

Source please?

Really though, I believe Anet has made quite a bit of money from the gem store, some players have probably spent more than 15$ a month on gems.

And yes, I wholeheartedly support GvG, unfortunately I feel as though these cries for GvG will disseminate in the coming months just like the cries for open world dueling did a year after release >.<

No disrespect!

Op, will you or the GvG’s be helping Arena.net cover the huge costs with increase server and large data costs?

Reason i ask, is because as you already know.

Gw2 have too many problems which still haven’t been fixex since game launch and why would Arena.net abbandone all the fixes for GvG?

In other word,

Why would Arena.net spend money on GvG than spending that money in repairing Gw2 problems?

Because there is a huge opportunity for Anet to make lots of money via GvG.

If they used the guild wars 1 system, where GvG takes place on the guild hall maps, they could charge gems for additional guild hall features (Repair NPC, Merchants, Aesthetic Decorations, etc.). I’m sure lots of guilds would pay gems to max out their guild halls, and Anet could even introduce new cosmetic items every now and then that plenty of them would be sure to buy.

I’ll preface this by saying I don’t really play SPvP. I play WvW, but I (along with copious amounts of other players I’m sure) have never gotten heavily involved in the realm of SPvP due to the lack of rewards that can be used outside of the heart of the mists.

If exchanging glory into EXP for alts, or exchanging it into gold or karma is out of the question there is another solution to draw more players into the world of SPvP. Let us use regular PvE salvage kits (in addition to the already existing PvP salvage kit system) on extra PvP gear pieces, giving us PvE mats (ranging in quality to even Tier 7 perhaps?) if the players chooses to obtain them.

1. Should there be guild halls?
2. Why should there be guild halls?
3. How soon should they be added?
4. How should guild halls be obtained?
5. How would they affect the game? (GvG, passive buffs, WvW, etc)

1. Yes

2. Many, MANY, reasons, some of which: New form of horizontal progression for guilds (guild “achievements” represented through trophies), a place to call home/hangout, RP purposes, a sense of character ownership/guild fellowship, a place to attack/defend in GvG. (Also, think of the money Anet could make by offering gem exclusive furniture =P)

3. They should be a priority in my opinion, with the recent design philosophy shift from temporary content to an emphasis on permanent content I think this should be one of the first permanent content projects that is worked on and added to throughout the months (things that could be added: new guild hall locations, which would double as GvG maps). Why GW1 has them and GW2 has yet to add them is beyond me.

4. This is an interesting and bound to be controversial topic that I have no clear answer for at the time, however… Perhaps there should be multiple means of obtaining a Guild Hall? Through gold or influence?

5. GvG should take a page out of the WvW book rather than the SPvP book and allow players to use their PvE/WvW earned gear. Siege weapons would also be an interesting dynamic to add to battles that would range between 10v10 and 30v30.

The greatest thing about these types of quests is that they can span across zones and thus be more epic.

Ah, now I get that you ment multiplayer in the fighting game sense of the word and not team play. Thanks for clearing that up.

Even with that in context I’ve illustrated that people have complained about both content requiring teams and content that was PvP oriented. 1v1 fighting totally counts as PvP and my statement saying they made this solo to appease the people who don’t want to play with or against anyone still stands and holds water.

We don’t even have 1v1 for sPvP. If we can’t have that in the meta I don’t see a LS story team developing a tangible way for us to 1 v 1 outside of the mists.

Right, but I wasn’t stating that the current option should be replaced, but rather that this simple addition would add so much more.

Flame and Frost: I can’t believe that after all this LS you’re making me run a dungeon with PEOPLE!

Southsun Cove: Canach can’t be defeated alone? Moar solo content nao!

Dragon Bash: I hate PvP and how dare you add another dungeon! Grumpy Cat plays MMO’s alone!

BotFW: You’re finally listening; content I can do without a team! Still this race is too PvP like for my discerning tastes. Stop it!

Cuththroat Politics: The trials kill my soul and I need a team to even pretend at a chance to do them. Also, more people oriented mini games? Seriously?

Even though the above comments are satire this is what the devs get and what we see in the forum with each living story after living story. It would have been simple to make this an event where you could choose a team or even pug a group, true. I think this was intentionally solo content to calm the nerves of people who want to play an MMO without interacting with people while at the same time giving them content that is a challenge, felt rewarding, and could contain an epic sense of game play all with out the need of a party or having to use a dungeon.

Your reply befuddles me, I think you’re misunderstanding my post, I’m not suggesting it be tweaked for a co-op mode, but rather a vs mode.

It would work just like any other minigame activity, it would keep the whole join up with randoms system yet only require two players. Toss two random players into an arena to battle each other to the death and wah-lah! You’ve created a new component to the game that could keep players occupied for hours on end.

Blargh. I’m done pretending you guys have legitimate arguments.

This is the bottom line:
Dueling is a playstyle currently entirely absent from the game. There is no way you can play against anybody on your server with the PvE build you’ve invested in. WvW doesn’t let you play against your pals or in cool locations. Custom arenas don’t provide the kind of build customization that open world does.

Running around the world immersively is not going to become absent from the game if dueling is added. The community is not going to fill up with trashbums. You aren’t going to lose the ability to block annoying people in map chat. You won’t be spammed with invites every 3 seconds or whispered by every guy out there. People are not going to decide that locations with lots of other people are suddenly great places to 1v1.

As for those of you complaining about effect spam? Your opinion is miniscule. Yup. If you can’t deal with 2 guys throwing things at each other behind whatever panel you’re staring at, you can turn off sound. And if you’re bothered by the visual presence of people casting things, too bad. Your activities won’t disappear. Being slightly annoyed some of the time while doing the activity you enjoy is not worth the complete lack of an activity that others enjoy

This is the kind of logic I am seeing from alot of people in this thread.

I enjoy flying my kite and people won’t let me do that in peace due to training dummies. Please remove the dummies from LA so that I may not be bothered. I know I can just go else where and even stay where I am at and fly my kite, but I kept seeing map chat saying “Everyone attack the dummy!” and I really liked standing right there at the time. Also please note the man laughing on the left he is the type of griefer this activity brings. Look at how sad Banono is due to the effects spam.

Oh my goodness this.

I really don’t understand the mentality against dueling, people that think they’re going to be hampered by it every minute they log in are delusional. If they played any other MMOs, there’s a good chance dueling was a mechanic in it, and they weren’t consistently hounded throughout their journeys.

I love new minigames. They’re fun and great, and the designs behind them are incredibly innovative for the MMO genre. However, none of the minigames released have provided me with more than a temporary distraction (and a thirst to obtain their achievements).

I completely understand that in order to stop people from abusing rewards/achievements it is necessary to group players together at random. What I don’t understand is why these minigames do not have a sort of “unranked” variation, where friends can join and play them together with the achievement/reward aspect removed.

Until then Anet, I’ll be playing your minigames for the shiny achievements, but I’ll be crying at the potential fun these games could have if I could only play them with friends. T-T

Is the game really ready for more skills?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Latorn.4209

Latorn.4209

That’s why Anet should follow the Magic: the Gathering model (Type II/Standard) where skills expire as new ones are added. Thus there is always the same number of skills in the game making it easier to balance while the game stays fresh as new skills are routinely added.

Moreover, this system allows Anet to be more bold in introducing new and interesting mechanics since they’ll all expire in time anyway so damage to the game from such experimentation is limited.

As it is, Anet already can’t handle balance with the traits and skills we have now, there’s no way they’ll be able to balance with more traits and more skills. It seems Anet learned absolutely nothing from their experience with GW1.

You want SKILLS to be temporary content now? We’re talking about SKILLSSSSS a core feature of the game? Could it get more controversial than this? Just wait ‘til all the players come whining to the forums about being upset that they couldn’t play when skill “so and so” was active and their class was OP. >.<

I loved the new blog post, it looks like a lot of great things are going to be coming to Guild Wars 2 this year. Yet there was one thing I found missing, and thus one question that needs answering: are guild halls still in development? Or has all work on them been abandoned?

This was a feature I really loved in the original Guild Wars, having a personal place to hang out with your buddies and guildies was awesome. Not to mention attacking and defending in GvG. Will my dream of defending and attacking guild halls (hopefully in the WvW style of PvP) in Guild Wars 2 ever come to fruition? Or is this a feature that is exclusive to the original?

Edit: Just a note, I’m not asking for a direct reply from a developer or anything XD Primarily I’m wondering if anyone else misses guild halls, or even if you didn’t play the original guild wars, if you’re interested in the concept of guild halls.

It should be something that players can tackle in the way they see fit to — alone or with friends/partners/guildies, etc.

Exactly, they had it great at the beginning when we could actually play with out friends, I hope the remaining instances in dragon bash and future instances give us the option to solo or group.

Also, I just realized, shouldn’t the title of this thread be “Solo story wrong direction” or “Solo story headed in wrong direction” just to be less confusing? XD

Did you somehow miss the fact that the new Emperor of Cantha dissolved the two factions. There are no Luxons and no Kurzicks…
There will also not be open world PvP. It’s called WvW. There is a reason there isn’t open world PvP in the game already, it is not conducive to social play and grieving can be a massive problem. WvW IS open world PvP in an environment designed specifically for it. Go play WvW.

Calm down, no one is going to force you into a Open PvP zone. This is a different type of PvP with a reputation system implemented, not WvW. Also, I thought this was the suggestion forum in which people could post suggestions, saying things like “There will also not be open world PvP.” is quite a foolish thing to do in this forum.

And I’m not here to argue lore with you, but Kurzick vs Luxon was just an example, however you can dissolve lineage and we have no idea whats been going on in Cantha…. It’s been 250 years.

I know I’m not alone in my desire to fight with and alongside other players on my server. I want to get to know names, build a community, find a rival, and determine who the strongest and most powerful allies and enemies are on my server.

So here’s my ambitious suggestion (expansion content maybe? ), we take the Kurzick vs Luxon faction system from GW1 and revolutionize it for the persistent world of GW2.

A new open world PvP zone is introduced in which players must determine an allegiance (e.×. Kurz vs Lux), and then fight for that side to take over territory (similar to how the map would change in GW1: Factions, but in real time like WvW) from the opponent. Completing objectives grants the player reputation with their faction and unique rewards for achieving higher reputation ranks. This zone does not count towards world completion and PvE-only players are given warnings and can easily avoid it.

Well, that’s the idea, a large chuck of content but a pretty simple concept. Give players a fight to fight for! Let us build a community within our server, and keep me logging in everyday so that the foolish Kurzick do not invade Luxon territory!
