Man this is an awesome event, and so many sweet videos have been uploaded
Too bad I only found out about this a day before the end XD
Also, I thought Kailtor’s sarcasm was obvious, unless they can prove otherwise =P

Haha, this is amazing, I didn’t know there was a Zelda reference like that!
Not exactly “ghost towns” on my server, yet not exactly “zerg mobs” like they were on release.
After the 25th however I expect the starting zones will be packed again temporarily, enjoy the peace while you can =P
Why does it work like that? Why are there two separate grinds within one game? Can’t my character be a single character?
TLDR: Because the gaming community and it’s desire for self segregation and 1-upmanship require it to be that way.
Long version:
It used to work this way.
Then MMO’s started to get away from open world PvP and make it a mini-game within the game. Meanwhile the people still forming raids, pushing new content and such would acquire top-end gear. Then they would go play the pvp mini-game, which some players took very seriously and have pretty hefty stat advantages. PvPers got mad and started screaming for gear advantages in the pvp minigame that would render the PvE gear obsolete, OR for equal gear to the PvE’ers.Well for a while games had the 2nd option, and PvE’ers got mad as all hell that a few BiS items for their raiding happened to be from PvP, where they’d have to deal with the competitive elitism (vs the time-based elitism of raiding, which is very hypocritical yes but that’s another rant).
This further splintered communities into distinct districts, who then had to have completely seperate gear grinds to validate the time spent by either party in their respective parts of the game. Of course PvE’ers constantly get their gear upgraded with new content which eventually would push the statistical difference high enough to compete with PvP gear again and so PvP gear would have to increase as well. More grind.
ANet here has gone with a decent option which is to fully embrace the segregation by saying “Ok, neither part has any effect on the other part. EVER. Enjoy”…
But now the PvPers still aren’t happy (which is ironic since the PvE’ers are usually called out for being carebear and wanting things handed to them…) and want their cake and to eat it too if/when they choose to go into PvE (which translates into WvW mind you). The other option would be to get rid of the whole PvP minigame design and go back to the original design of early MMO’s where there is only the “world”. All PvP, all PvE happens in the same world. No instanced PvP minigame. No segregation. One grind for all. However this would mean players would need to go back to actually playing the game in it’s entirety. It would also mean people would have to deal with open world PvP WHILE they PvE’d. Or go to a PvE only server where it wouldn’t matter.
But neither party would be happy with that as history has already gone that route and the self segregation would most likely happen all over again.
Short reply to a long post XD
I suppose you’re saying this because of the introduction of ascended gear? I mean previously a PvEr would have no advantage of going into PvP with their gear, even now the system of gear standardization still exists. In a system of purely horizontal progression, I’m wondering why skins can’t be used in PvP… I’m not talking about stats at all XD
I’m confused, would you rather a monthly fee and no chance to get chests with skins at all?
If I want them I’ll just try to get them from the TP anyways.
I heard you have to skip the S.S. Anne, use surf in the harbor until you come across an island with a dumptruck on it. Then if you hit Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-B-A you can catch Mew.
Why is 100% of the time I’ve spent in this game basically for nothing as soon as I leave the tiny little underpopulated instance called Heart of the Mist?
Because that’s the only part of the game you’ve actually put the time in on. Whoah, mind blown.
I’ve worked very hard for this gear and have nothing to show for it.
Hmm, PvE’ers with legendaries and awesome gear face a similar issue when going into the PvP area as well. Strange how that works.
Why does it work like that? Why are there two separate grinds within one game? Can’t my character be a single character?
Yes, yes, yes! I suggested a similar idea quite a while back. I don’t even PvP enough to have good PvP skins, but geez do I feel bad for the people that do and are left with nothing for the “real” part of the game (by “real” I mean the portion of the game that 90% of the content is focused on). I also think it’s foolish that uber PvPers are still at like level 5 in the “real” game even after having spent hundreds of hours in PvP.
I’m a hybrid player as well, no idea why this hasn’t been implemented yet. I don’t understand separating the playerbase, it’s not like there are copious amounts of PvPers in the first place.
Honestly I’d PvP more, but there’s just no “real game” progression, so whenever I log in I find myself drawn to PvE which I find both fun and rewarding- instead of PvP which is just fun.
They said that there are going to be more things glory related that will apply to other aspects of the game. They didn’t give details and it is not something coming in the next patch but it will be coming.

Well that’s freaking great news ^^ now just to wait on its implementation…
Give it a try and see =P
Pretty sure Aerwyna’s right though.
Would really, really, ReAlLy, love to see dueling
The ability to 1v1 anywhere in the world would add SOOO MUCH appeal.
Hmmmm, what’s with the idea of separating the player community anyways? Why can’t PvP and PvE players communicate through something like the Zkey of GW1? Don’t a vast number of PvPers PvE as well? Maybe I’m wrong with that assumption, but I know I do both >.>
Just seems odd that I have to work on getting the same skins twice >.< It feels more and more like I have 2 different characters (which I know the original GW had), weren’t they trying to avoid that approach or am I wrong? XD
Just sort of wondering if anyone understands the reasoning behind this… Does anyone know why hard earned PvP skin rewards cannot be worn in the PvE world?
How do you have that many keys? O.o
Did you buy them all?
3. Nerfing windfurry, I know it was OP when it procc’d but you had to rely pretty heavily on it so was balanced imo and didn’t proc too often.
HAHAHA, seriously? My only character was a shaman since vanilla, but I’m sorry man, this thread lost all credibility after I read that.
Aye Arenanet, this is fantastic ^^ keep up the good work.
This is problem one of the biggest reasons why I’ll be sticking around here You guys actually do things about cheaters.
I don’t think you’ll be seeing open world PvP anytime soon, that’s what WvW is for.
GvG is coming (apparently?), let’s just hope that it uses the WvW system (PvP in PvE gear without restrictions) rather than the SPvP system, so that we can actually use racial abilities and hard earned skins.
I agree with the premise that dueling should be allowed anywhere in the PvE world. It allows for a hugeeee amount of variability in terms of the map due to the fact that the world is pretty big XD
The most valuable items in the game can be obtained through 3 ways:
1. RNG Luck, through either a drop or MF.
2. Grinding gold over and over until you have the 100g+ required for your precursor.
3. Buying many, many gems and trading it to gold to buy the precursor (pay to win much?)Instead I propose that precursor drops should now only be available only through a high level of difficulty within FoM (rewarding player accomplishment and skill, rather than luck and time played). Also, I believe they should be BoP to remove the pay to win option that currently exists.
Agree, disagree?
Very strongly disagree. Heaps of gold/gems is actually the casual friendly way. I have years to farm for it, I don’t care. On the other hand, dusk, at 250g requires me to make about 15 overhours which I can easily do in a month. A week even with deadlines incoming.
This is the difference between rewarding a player for grinding, and rewarding a player for accomplishment.
Not gonna quit, but gonna give SWTOR another shot as well now it’s F2P.
Pay to win? Right now Legendaries are nothing but a rainbow shooting gold sink. Their stats are equivalent to AC exotic weapons.
They currently offer no advantage over regular gear.
Yet the entire game is (or was?) based on horizontal progression.
Progression.
I can simply buy my characters progression through gems.
Back in beta there was the general idea that all important transactions would take place using the karma currency, a currency that is character bound and earned. Yet, that just isn’t so.

Not quite sure how taking your gold and making you start from level 1 is in ANY way relevant to someone getting an item that is an ingredient in a legendary.
Also, I don’t really care if people got them or not. I did the event on 5 different characters and none of them got a precursor. Still not envious of people who were lucky. Good on them for getting lucky, I’ll get there someday and maybe I’ll get lucky or maybe I’ll have to work. I don’t know and that’s the fun part.
How exactly do you work for a precursor? Grind gold over and over, or buy it all with gems? >.>
I consider myself reasonably savvy, but I dont know what either of ITT or RNG means. Please explain?
RNG means Random Number Generator- the fact that the most valuable loot in this game isn’t awarded to skillful players who work hard towards an accomplishment, but is rather completely based on lucky drops.
A heads up might have been nice.
ITT: Someone is angry someone else got lucky with rolls…that’s how RNG works…
It should never have been RNG in the first place, what a terrible decision. Precursors should have been a reward for an accomplishment, such as defeating a very difficult boss on a high level FoM- or something along those lines.
Precursors should always have been drops from incredibly difficult bosses, something like level 10 FoM or something IMO. Not random.
Totally nessecary. As much as I love surprises, this event has been extremely unplayable and has consisted of me doing nothing in front of Noll for half an hour.
Maybe they can hold a few surprises back from the PTR? The majority of it needs to be tested though so this doesn’t happen again.
You’re describing issues with fundamental event NPCs; those should have been picked up internally.
A PTR system shouldn’t be needed for stuff like this. Get the internal QA tightened up, that’s all.
Well apparently the bugs weren’t picked up, that is why I’m suggesting they use public testing.
And holy crap, don’t get me started on phase 2, my overflow has been waiting 40mins now… Wouldn’t be so bad if there was dueling or something to pass the time.

Everything is so bugged, I hope they extend this so we actually get a chance to complete it >.<
He seems to be bugged on Tarnished Coast and any other overflow I go to as well >.<
You can totally do it at level 15… I ran the halloween scavenger hunt through Genderran Fields on my level 4.
LOL! This is a joke thread, right?
Honestly, why couldn’t there be a bit of glory rewarded? I like to PvE and PvP, why can’t PvPers join in the festivities? XD (Other than the mists being redone, but I actually mean take part in events).
Think of the children that had real halloween cancelled. YEAH. That didn’t last two weeks.
Latorn, I’m not complaining that she is gone, I’m asking for her to be put back… pleading, really. I known it’s my fault for waiting so long!
Yeah haha, I wasn’t referring to you so much as JesterX XD
I agree though, even if the ghosts and quest has disappeared it would be nice if she sat around for a few days (Nov. 5 maybe), so people could hand in their pages if they’re sitting in their inventory.
^ No idea why my sentence is appearing twice haha >.<
Well.. She was there for two weeks, and she was there waaay longer than expected guys.
Well.. She was there for two weeks, and she was there waaay longer than expected guys.Halloween was thought to end at 12:00 PDT sooo you probably should have tried to get it done before that :/
I agree, clocktower was amazingly awesome and it required BOTH skill AND persistence.
Some people got it in an hour, some two, some seven, some ten. Regardless, those who wished to spend there time on an amazingly challenging OPTIONAL puzzle were granted the most satisfactory achievement of completion once they successfully did it.
Awesome work man! Totally should be the unofficial GW2 Halloween trailer
As long as jumping puzzles are optional, that’s fine, but requiring one as they did with the Mad King fight crosses the line. If they are going to require jumping puzzles to complete regular content, then they should fix things so all players have an equal chance.
I did not consider the MK boss map as a jumping puzzle. All you are doing is dropping down. And I made it so there are MANY paths down.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
Noooo! Don’t change what you’re doing! The mad king mini-dungeon layout was fantastic, really spiced it up with the small amount of jumping required. Think of how boring it would be if you just went in and fought him on a flat level :/
They would need to make it so nobody can benefit from speed traits. (i.e elementalist) if they ever were to add such a thing.
I’m sure they could apply some kind of boon to everyone within the zone that normalizes stats XD
And yeah, the only problem would be having to wait for the second platforms to come :/
Maybe they’d have to make a whole new jumping puzzle with a leaderboard next year then hahaha <3 you Anet XD
Yeah haha, I guess the cutoff point would have to be the platform right before you jump in to the reward zone.
For fastest completion times, with daily high scores and monthly, just like the beetle races from GW1
Would be amazing
Also it’d be cool if they could somehow implement it for the other mini-games like Lunatic Inquisition XD

Yesss clock tower was sooo good, took me almost 100 tries, but I got it ^^
Norn no speed boosts, it was an amazing experience, I freaking loved it.. Thanks ANet ^^
Thank you for the clarification AnthonyOrdon ^^ My server will keep trying
We’ve completed the Queensdale events 6 times now though XD
(edited by Latorn.4209)
So I haven’t been able to play until today, and I was really looking forward to trying the clocktower… Yet when I went outside to gendarran fields there were no doors leading to the mad kings realm.. Please tell me this is just temporary T_T
