Oh I know. So would you also consider 5 random pugs vs Orange Logo with 200 vs 350 points (who knows how it ended) as loosing badly?
You misunderstand. What I meant was that wether we lost badly or not isnt the problem. The problem is that matchmaking like this shouldn’t occur on a regular basis, if at all.
The fact that they were probably trolling/sleeping/rom drunk (lol) or anything else doesn’t mean stuff like this should be allowed to happen anyway
The screen was taken a couple of hours before last weekend’s tourny, I doubt they were drunk.
(edited by Lazze.9870)
I’m gonna write this in caps now, because the trait has been touched several times already without fixing this: AMBIDEXTERITY STILL RESETS WHEN CHANGING ZONES ETC.
Frost Spirit for Zerk and all other power builds.
Sun Spirit in case you are running the most condition damage you can and if you need condi bombing (burst version of conditions).
To add to this:
In longer fights, your zerker party will benefit more from Sun Spirit in terms of overall DPS, compared to a ranger bringing Quickining Zephyr instead. Even the ranger’s personal dps goes higher the longer the fight if you swap out QZ with Sun Spirit.
In short, you may want both depending on the content, regardless of your build.
What is the pic supposed to show?
Five solo queuers vs. Orange Logo.
It wasn’t that we lost badly, but that kind of matchmaking shouldn’t happen as often as it does.
Axe Off-Hand #5 ~ Increase the radius of effect baseline, proportionately to how it was pre 6/23/2015 with the old trait that reduced off-hand recharge and increased off-hand range. Axe Off-Hand was actually viable then..
They already did.
I think that big part of complaints regarding matchmaking is related to ignorance and inability.
This happened yesterday, and it for sure wasn’t the first time. The Matchmaking is horrible. Constantly bumping into premades as solo/duo queuers is way more annoying than the queue times.

As in your spear elite spec thread, I like the gw1 references. I’d bet some of these traits already would have existed if Robert “GW1 Nostalgic” Gee did the ranger work.
I seriously doubt what people “wished” for had any effect on Anet’s decision making in this case. Healing Spring was a trap skill in the first game, they talked about it on the first stream etc etc. I think it was a natural choice they would have went with either way.
Most of us arguing for the utility aspects are not saying that it couldn’t do with more damage, just not at the expense of the other utility and the evade on AA. It’s not like getting more damage on it would be a bad thing, however if they removed the evasion or blocks to give it more damage, it would just be a warrior clone GS.
Well, you’re basically arguing against something you brought up yourself. I don’t think anyone advocating for damage increase said they wanted to remove the evades.
And they wouldn’t. Evades attached to ranger weapons is such a integral part of the profession design, I doubt they will ever remove it or stop doing it with future weapons.
Sword is just as much a “utility weapon” as greatsword is. Heck, you can even do some defensive maneuvers with the sword autoattacks if you know how to use it. You know, the same three skills that are the primary dps of the PvE build. It just goes to show how the ranger is designed.
The problem isn’t passives, I mean most classes have auto procs, even the under rated rangers have their share of invuln, blocks and auto cast..
Rangers have no pure invuln, and their autoproc traits are tuned towards migating damage when they’re at high health and raise their own damage when at low. While a warrior proc Endure Pain when struck beneath the threshold, a ranger proc the active effect of Signet of the Wild instead of copy pasting and using Signet of Stone.
Anet kept these kinds of traits (and added new ones like Most Dangerous Game) knowing perfectly well that they would change Bark Skin to migate damage at high health instead of low health, removing an otherwise perfect syngery with these traits. Protective Ward is pretty much the only defensive autoproc they have.
The GS block they have can be played around due to its secondary effect. I’m not saying I’m agreeing with OP, but if anything, ranger is actually more an example of a “bottom tier” class with lack of defensive autoprocs as opposed to a “bottom tier” class despite having passive defenses.
So, I found some more data, I cannot seem to open the spreadsheet myself, but here is the link to the reddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3fsjiy/ranger_dps_for_pve_after_20150728/
According to them, the pet is only responsible for 15-17% of the Ranger’s Damage, which is a big eye opener since about 30% was the readily accepted norm for pet damage.
I lieu of that info, if it is indeed correct, then I agree that GS can do with a dps increase, most of our weapons could, in fact.
Readily accepted by people who sworn to old numbers. I pointed this out in a thread some weeks ago.
The numbers are even lower in a pvp setting where the pet is having a harder time connecting attacks.
In a dungeon run with frost spirit, 60-80% of a run the spirit is somewhere behind, I can’t destroy it
You’re doing it wrong then.
Just means you can use it for the next lot of trash mobs as well as the next boss.
It does, but I can assure you that trash mobs melt fast enough as it is since the patch.
The damage is lower than other GSs, because Ranger GS is not a boring, one dimensional DPS weapon. Because evade on AA, evade on Swoop, block and knockback on Counterattack and daze/stun on hiltbash.
The animations need work for sure, but it doesn’t really need any more damage.
The guardian leap, blind, combo condi cleanse and pull isn’t exactly one dimensional either.
The autos on the ranger could easily be umped up to feel a little less like you’re hitting people with a wet nuddle. I do however prefer the proposed changes to it’s attack speeds to make it feel more like a nimble weapon that makes perfect sense for a ranger.
They wouldn’t have to lower the damage as they’re low enough as it is, and it would provide a minor dps increase to the weapon while fixing the somewhat sluggish feel of it at the same time.
I generally only used frost spirit, and I feel like I actually get better uptime now since I can pop it when a fight is over and have it ready for the next, as opposed to having it follow me as we skip a bunch of trash and go on cool down right as we start fighting again. I also love that you no longer have to waste traits to make them useful.
You don’t realize that you could easily just kill it off by switching out the spirit for another utility and then put it back on your skillbar?
The uptime is the same as it always was.
You are probably better off just popping it before the fight ends, you’ll still have the buff up until the end and it starts recharging immediately.
You can, and thus your spirit is almost off cooldown immediately after the fight. Rarely makes much of a difference in terms of having the spirit up where it matters, though.

except for how hilariously stupid the AI is I cant even count how mant times bird has used swiftness instead of killing my target and so on Id rather have f1-6 or even 7
so I can have more control over pet rather then bear useing Defy Pain when being touched by the wind
If I could use it myself I could useing along with protect me or something like thatOf couse, but we’re trying to fit aspects into the class mechanic without going too overboard. Mesmer got an F5, so maybe Ranger as well. I wouldn’t bet on an F6 though.
Closer to your way could be:
F1 = pet skill 1
F2 = pet special
F3 = pet skill 3
F4 = pet swap
F5 = pet toggle passive/agressive modeNot sure how Aspects fit into it. Could still be attached to F1,F2 and F3, but it would have double functionality for doing different things.
Complete control over the pet should have been adresses way before they did any work on elite specs.
A new F skill to control pet skill number 4 would be a very welcomed addition to the pet mechanic. On demand drake blast, bird swiftness, canines knockdown etc.
Traps overall: Excellent changes but again, you’re losing too much sustain taking these instead of meds/shouts (pvp).
Rangers have been saying this for THREE YEARS. The way traps are designed in this game effectively strips off surviveability.
Well, I’m starting to think the mechanic is going to a little bit more interesting than what I initially thought.
The pet stays though, in some way or another. Stop fooling yourself with Anet bothering to alter every single trait and skill that has a secondary pet effect or is directly tied to the pet mechanic.
It never lost it.
It’s pve meta for a reason:
- Stealth from this skill provides 25% critical-hit chance for your pet.
- Pet remains invisible even while inflicting damage.
- Increases pet’s ferocity by 375 / critical damage by 25%.
I think he’s talking about the numbers in your build panel. The percentage number with the correlated profession icon next to it. Speccing BM currently doesn’t change this number because of the changes, it just says at 0.
It’s just an UI thing.
Then why not provide heal + remove condis? Imo with this change, it will be GM worthy. Also Increase the radius of the skill to 360.
Yup. Like most people have been saying for a while.
I guess. I believe we’ll get a bonfire though, because a single fire field isn’t really enough to take advantage of the GM trait Powerful Synergy. The Throw Torch could be anything, even a simple melee hit, which would either blind or burn.
A firefield isn’t out of the question, I’d probably expect it, but I doubt it will be a bonfire. Like I said, that’s a literal copy of the ranger torch.
Like, literally: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bonfire
And as much as I like the ranger bonfire, the skill itself is a bit.. bland compared to the skills the elite specs are getting.
don’t remove the heal, if they wanna tack some condi removal onto it sure, but as is it’s pretty strong.
It’s not like we don’t have more condi removal other than those 2 traits…
~Taking Bear for condi clear is basically sacrificing 20% of our DPS, 1 CC and offensive BM traits that won’t hit the target since bear won’t go into range to cast it.
~Taking Healing Spring is situational. It forces you to stay immobile, the clear is not instant, it’s bugged and you have to blow heal in order to cleanse.
~ Evasive purity goes on CD without cleansing more often then not. It’s not like we don’t have other options to cleanse, but we still have literally no other reliable way to cleanse. The only 2 good traits have been merged into grandmaster in WS.
You’ve clearly never actually taken a brown bear before, the damage it deals is not that much lower, since it actually used its bite ability in realistic situations, and it DOES run into range when you use its F2 instead of staying back.
Also, evasive purity, and all other dodge roll condi cleanses, do NOT go on CD unless they remove at least one condition they say they’ll remove. This was changed quite a while ago, and if it doesn’t do this currently it’s due to a bug not the trait.
Not to mention there’s also signet of renewal, which is one of the best condi removals in the game.
Invigorating Bond is still kitten.
Guardian torch.

Are you done being wrong?
The torch seems consistent with a condition/hybrid warrior. I suppose you could get a bonfire (AoE Burn + fire field) and some torch throwing (inflicting Burn or Blind).
Sure, some elite specs are stepping on other professions toes to a certain extent, but this is literally a copy of the ranger torch.
The real question is: is Kui even going to listen?
No, they’re too busy polishing rev and elite specs to realize that their core stuff is in a horrible state.
Or well, when it comes to ranger it doesn’t matter either way. Good suggestions have been ignored for years.
Screw this, I just realized …
… https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Restorative_Mantras
… Thank you Arena-Net for designing your stuff so well.I’m out. If you’ll search for me I’ll be somewhere hand-knitting my bight.
It would have been funny, except from the fact that I’m not even remotely surprised.
The Nature Magic line has so much wasted potential. Evasive Purity should be aoe cleanse, Windbourne Notes and warhorn needs some sort of overhaul all together, and two out of the three grandmaster traits are a joke. Protective Ward and partially the revive trait is about the only redeeming quality of this specialization. They overcap us with regen and call it a day – that’s about it when it comes to defensive ranger support capabilities.
If Anet don’t touch this spec when they’re done with their “balance monitoring post-patch”, then.. well. Then I’m laughing. If they only payed a percentage of the attention they pay to all the revenant suggestions on the forums these days.

5.Enlargment should be changed from proccing Signet of Stone instead of Signet of the Wild. This would help correlate with other traits such as Defy Pain
These kinds of autoproc traits shouldn’t have been in the game in the first place. But that’s neither here nor there at this point.
That being said, if they change Bark Skin back to its old version, Enlargement would synergize a lot better in its current state than what it would do if you were to cast Signet of Stone instead.
If they want to have a thing were Rangers can be potentially dangerous when brought on low health with things like Most Dangerous Game, Instinctive Reaction and so forth, Enlargement should stay as it is while Bark Skin could have its old version back.
A minimum to pet controll changes would be a F5 to controll their last skill. On demand drake blast, on demand bird swiftness, on demand canine knockdown. And so on and so on AND SO ON.
I can’t believe Anet doesn’t see how stupid it is not let us control these abilities ourself.
I hope the druid will be good at whatever it is supposed to do (mid ranged support and debuffing/CC, perhaps), and that they introduce something like this with the next spec. The ranger could be in a really good place at that point.
Stances are one of those skill types I expect the ranger to get at some point. They were huge for pvp rangers in the first game. I remember back in the day when I thought they should just scrap our awfull shouts and replace them with stances.
Anyone else feel this way?
For one, the shouldn’t have changed the names in the first place. “Strenght of the pack” will always sound ridiculous. Funny how they gave mesmer loads of callbacks to GW1 skills with their new traits, while they changed the name of an iconic pet skill from the previous game. Same with Read/Lead the Wind.
New voiceovers? Sure. Just give them a note that says Rampage as One on it.
(edited by Lazze.9870)
Power is really solid spot right now. Can 1v1 with anything except cele DD ele or cele signet necro , but hardly any classes can beat those two in 1v1s…
It can by all means beat a cele ele on point, you just won’t have the advantage.
Running nature magic with Protective Ward which is huge against celes + the condi removal from the survival skills gives the power ranger a fair chance if you manage the pet well. If it all goes shouth, you have the tools to disengage aswell.
As far as cele necros go, I rarely find myself 1v1 with them on side point. Can’t say I find them impossible to beat in a power spec, though.
(edited by Lazze.9870)
Meh. Just tag on a flash of fury for Remorseless syngergy instead.
The cooldown reduction needs to be there. Aegis has little use with SoS. Rune of the Defender doesn’t even exist in PvP.
I really wanna see a 2h Spear with Stances.
I want this. Now. So much nostalgia.
Ambidexterity is lost if the player character is teleported without a loading screen, such as in pvp or close waypoints.[/s]
Why has this been crossed out? The stat loss still happens all the time in PvP.
Ele gets one that is 2% per boon and it is a GM trait. The pet should really be affected, or we would only be getting 0.7% per boon instead of 1%, we both need 1% for it to add up to a whole 1% on other classes.
The pet is affected.
It’s a PvE trait. In organized play it will easily stack up to the 5 % the old trait gave. Nature Magic got other problems. Two out of the three GM traits, Windborne Notes, Instinctive Reaction scaling from healing power. And while at it, Evasive Purity should affect allies too as this point, for the sake of having a support focused line.
Since taunt is now technically a condi. You also don’t need to stun break it if you’re on ele. Just cleanse it.
Are you able to switch to water, though? Taunt prevents weaponswap (probably also a bug), so i’m not sure this would work.
No, it’s not a bug. You’re forced to attack with the weapon you used when taunted. They even said that when introducing it. Not every single thing benfiting the ranger is an “issue”, you know.
even work while the ranger is downed (though this is more a general issue with F2 skills working while downed).
No, it’s not. But I’d be happy to see you prove me wrong.
For the alst week it does working while u’r downed
He was implying that ranger shouldn’t be able to control their pets in down state like they’re currently able to. Which is not only shortsighted, but if anything, rangers needs more control of their pets.
But that’s another topic.
even work while the ranger is downed (though this is more a general issue with F2 skills working while downed).
Calling it a “general issue” just makes you look really shortsighted.

Pet swap bug happened to me aswell, so its obviously a thing. No idea what caused it.
The trait Expertise Training does not work, does not change the damage neither the duration of the pet conditions.
Tested it with the Lynx – works here?
It does work. It doesn’t change the tooltips however, and the stat increase needs to be bumped up to match the new condi threshold.
Happened to me yesterday while PvPing, twice. No transformation involved.
GS – S/A remorseless is perfectly viable for pve.
Can obviously run Predator’s Onslaught, ranger runes etc. instead. The Remorseless build is just a fun build to play around with if you like using greatsword.
Greatsword works with predator’s onslaught as well, with a stun/daze and a cripple.
Besides that, most pugs will spam some sort of impairing condition on enemies anyway.
I literally said he could run PO aswell?
I noticed this in Arah last night – while your pet is on passive, after swapping and using F2, the pet will run up to and start attacking your active target (while still set to “avoid combat”)
Like it always did because that’s how it works.
Doesn’t matter if you have it on avoid combat, activating F2 will make your pet attack your active target, just like pressing F1 will.
Quickening Zephyr should give the group quickness.
It really irks me that they gave this to Guardians, they already had fantastic group suport why give them even more and on a ridiculisly low CD?
This. I get that they just converted one of the tome skills, but party wide quickness is something that makes a lot more sense if it was given to the ranger instead.
Like, they had the chance to make Windborn Notes grant quickness to allies, but no, they went with the overused and underwhelming regen instead.

Finally, I’ve tested Ambidexterity again, and it looks like the condition damage bonus is not lost on non-loadingscreen teleports any longer. I’ve tested it in pve and spvp arenas and it stays in all cases I tested.
If anyone is seeing this happen still, can you try to narrow down the exact steps?
Well, still lost whenever a loading screen pops up.
Last time I checked, I lost it upon dying in PvP aswell.
(edited by Lazze.9870)
I don’t see why you need your pet to do condi damage.
Because there are a dozen of pet attacks that apply condi. They obviously have to do something about it.
Ranger trait Ambidexterity still loose the added stats when your character is teleported (like dying in PvP) or when loading a new map.
Additionally, it doesn’t reduce the cooldown of Throw Torch since yesterday’s patch.
