Unless you specifically stated that you are a novice and then, if everyone agreed before the run started that it’s fine, you can not come here and complain about being kicked.
Speed runs are done for a reason. Most groups will run multiple times, and if you tell them beforehand they will (mostly) give you one or two runs to get your timing in and generally get better before expecting professional farming skills – that’s from my own experience with pugs. The gw2lfg post asked for an “experienced” mesmer with full berserker gear. At that point I thought I was fairly experienced. The post didn’t say “must pull slave driver and timewarp fast” maybe because it sounds ridiculous. Since these groups only allow 1 mesmer I never got the chance to see another mesmer in action in these speed runs. I never would have known what I’d done wrong if I hadn’t asked. That’s what bothers me the most.
I agree that their action was inappropriate given the context of their ad. They should’ve specified what they expect everyone to do, especially since you are the only mesmer. You pulling the slave driver or putting up a feedback isn’t even necessary for a fast run if them warriors weren’t so reliant on you. It was an odd preference by them and it is understandable that you are upset about it.
I rarely see people who are as bad as these ones really.. I’ve ran CoF a fair number of times (with PUGs) and I am yet to encounter anyone as big of an kitten as these guys are.
Ascended armors give very miniscule ‘advantage’ so why the need to implement them in the first place? Some of the arguments here make it sound like Anet just added some more exotics with a different colored fonts. We can sugarcoat it via semantics (needs vs wants) or diminish its value via math, but a gain is a gain regardless.
What purpose do these ascended items serve really? And if they hardly do anything as a higher equipment tier, why even add them to the game? At this point, I’m only being more and more convinced that adding them was a poor decision.
Because sometimes a compromise is called for. The questions are these…how many people left the game because of them? How many people would have left the game without them? I don’t think we’ll ever know.
But Anet apparently saw a lot of dissatisfied people that wanted “end game”. That takes a lot of time to make. Content was burned through fast. And Anet was scrambling for an answer. Any really “good” answer would have taken a lot more time. How many people would have left during that time?
Anet, in my mind, was caught between a rock and a hard place. The really believed most people would be satisfied with just cosmetic gear upgrades. And most Guild Wars 1 players certainly would have. But this game isn’t just made of GW 1 players. We have people coming in from other MMOs, who are used to numbers going up. Take that away from them and they feel that their character isn’t going anywhere. It’s a psychological thing.
Anet didn’t want to add a stat increase that would completely break the game, but they had to do something (in my opinion) to keep those people in the game. After all, more people in the game doesn’t usually hurt most MMOs. And fractals seem to have been popular with certain people. A lot of people played a lot of them.
So yeah, the upgrade is low, because Anet had to appease both groups of people. There are people at the edges of both groups, the die hards, who did leave. There’s no question about it. But I’m pretty sure more people stayed because of ascended weapons than left because of them.
Ascended items feel so all over the place in the process. I believe this could’ve been handled so much better. As I see it, people who are going for these ascended items defend their value (stat advantage in wvw for example) to legitimize their superiority, and the people who don’t care for them are trivializing the gain as some form of rationalization or sourgraping.
Ascended items should’ve been a real higher tier, with clear gains from the amount of effort/length of time to complete them. As of now, they’re worse than cosmetic items in that at least cosmetic items’ merit is visible. Any advantage they bring at the moment hardly matters it seems (based on the posters’ math) and that just makes me think ascended items are wasteful and ultimately fails its purpose (unless their real purpose was to buy Anet some time)..
They could make new skills for the underwater weapons we have now on land, and also underwater skills for say, Greatsword or Staff.

Imho there shouldn’t even be “underwater” and “land” weapons. A spear is very much a land weapon too anyway. So in my opinion, they should just make all weapons useable in either land or underwater and restrict them per profession instead. I’d love to wield the kraitkin in land.
hmm.. +50 HP vs a pretty rabbit with horns…
I forgot where I’ve read this but some people say that a good “general” rule to follow is:
light armor: vit > tough
heavy: tough > vit
or something.. :/
And so the basis and amount of a gain or an advantage has to be defined by whose standards again in order for it to qualify as a strategy, yours? Ultimately, it serves a purpose, whether it is the optimum choice or not is up for debate, but anyone’s moral compass shouldn’t go haywire about it. Again, what’s so unethical about it that it has to labeled “unfair”?
I didn’t label it “unfair”, don’t misquote me, I labelled it “cheap”, “skill-less” and “lazy”. All of which it is. The whole point is to engage in a totally one-sided no-risk fight against players who are too inexperienced to know to avoid it.
There’s a reason we associate taking candy from babies with bad people, y’know?
And no, it doesn’t serve any real purpose unless part of a greater strategy, because the rewards are so thin. It’s not even equivalent to killing one mob over and over when it respawns, because the players are worth almost nothing after they die once. Whether it’s optimum is not up for debate. It is not optimum for anything but attempting to prevent people reaching a specific objective.
My original post from where the unfair part was referring to the person who did say it was (2nd poster iirc, admittedly: tl;dr). Assuming these people who are getting owned by spawn campers as inexperienced is an idealistic generalization.
Preventing people from reaching a specific objective is a valid strategy to me (or tactic, or whatever). What kind of people falls victim to it is inconsequential in wvw; we have no definite means of determining how big a threat these people would become if they are allowed to wander past their spawn camp. Thus, it shouldn’t dictate what kind of a person the commander who employed said tactic is (lazy, cheap or unskilled).
Remember that I opt to define the action in its generality though. I cannot make a separation based on the TYPE or NUMBER of people the strategy is used on as some means of determinant on the action’s “legitimacy”.
tl;dr: it shouldn’t diminish any commander if he chooses to employ it generally speaking.

Is it 5 or +4? I’ve spent a lot on getting the fine infusions (5 stat, +5 ar).. I shouldn’t have bought them if the ones from laurels gave +5 stats too but i think it’s +4
I don’t understand what’s unethical or unfair with this kind of scenario. I feel like the people who are defending against such a tactic are being elitists. 1 commander would make all the difference. If an entire server is shutdown by 20 people camping your spawn point, considering the fact that 10 people would’ve activated the breakout event, then you don’t deserve anything from that battleground.
It isn’t dirty, it isn’t immoral, cheap or illegal. It’s a strategy. Stop being holier-than-thou. Obnoxious piety is more annoying.
It’s cheap, it’s lazy, it doesn’t even score well. It’s not a skilled task performed by brave, clever people. At best It’s the RvR equivalent of stacking the shelves at the supermarket.
Don’t attempt to glorify it.
Also, don’t pretend it’s always an actual “strategy”.
It is a strategy when it is being used to a greater end – i.e. preventing people getting to Stonemist or the like. Then it is a strategy.
It is just a lazy way to farm noobs and score some easy points when it is not being used to achieve a greater objective. That’s why I call it cheap. In that situation, it absolutely is cheap.
That’s not the same as griefing, though. The objective isn’t to upset other players. The objective is to gain points with virtually no risk (but you gain so few it’s barely worth it, frankly – still, people often don’t see that).
TLDR: If it’s part of a strategy, it’s fine. If it’s lazy noob farm, it’s lame, but not griefing.

I would be happier if the wings are more pronounced.. like what the Paragons had in GW1..
I am confused.. :/
But i do want capes back.. Although I’d rather have wings (you know, like the ones Paragons get when they cast a skill in GW1)
If you are dying to a level 9 mob as a level 20 character even if downgraded. You are doing something wrong.
I think what Anet is trying to do is to make this exact statement as inexact as possible.
Even with all the gold in the world though, GW2 can never make you feel ‘elite’ and it’s one of the best things in the game. After seeing people wielding every legendary they can wield, the novelty of the thing sort of diminishes. I’m not very fond of how much currencies we have in the game, but it somehow works out in the end. Sometimes, it even feels like gold < titles.
One of the reasons why I don’t like doing pvp is because the ‘hang out’ area is so dull.. In GW1, the Battle Isles felt more vast and interesting… In your opinion, what can be done to make the heart of the mists more appealing for people to hang out in?
tl;dr
Monster Hunter in PSP didn’t have a leveling system and yet it was pretty popular.. I think the game feels awkward that it tries to incorporate a similar idea in a traditional leveling game.. I’m hopeful that Anet will find a way to balance things out.
For me, Factions made GW1 great. 60% of the world population is asian. How can it be ‘universal’ when they aren’t represented well enough?
Kudzu’s footprints is one of the worst.. Looks more like vomit to me than a flower patch.
Are these orrian boxes the best karma > gold option we have atm?
The thing I found the most annoying at the moment are guilds that require “24/7 representation” which ultimately detracts from the concept of multi-guilding altogether. I wish influence is shared equally among the guilds you have joined (probably scale the amount to minimize exploits) or something.
From a non-player of GW1, how do you think “Guild Wars” would sound? People always say “lore this, lore that” in defense of the title, but Anet should know what the title implies to people who are entirely foreign to the game. It denotes wars among guilds, and it is totally understandable that people are upset by the lack of competitive guild activities which the title ironically seems to suggest.
Saying it is from “lore” sounds more like a rationalization to me.
I’d like to know what kind of lodestones you got..
EDIT: nevermind, it’s in the pic…
Prettier, but definitely worse. I don’t see how it is an improvement when people aren’t running it as frequently as before. Anyone can argue in favor of the new design/mechanics as far as challenge or whatever goes, but it doesn’t change the fact that it was a better dungeon pre-patch. If less people are playing the content it simply isn’t as good.
Guild Halls and Mercenaries/Heroes.
…and Ritualist.
I’ve only recently experienced wvw with teamspeak and it makes so much difference. It is FAR from being mindless indeed if you understand why your commander decided to do something (such as retreating). That said, I do agree that the massive toll zerging takes on my PC is killing the fun out of wvw and I often rage quit after my client crashes a couple of times during zerg engagements.
It would be much simpler to admit the error and simply remove all Ascended gear from the game. I was reading an interview with Colin last month where the interviewer referred to Ascended gear as “the debacle of Ascended gear”. When you’re dealing with a ‘debacle’, and everyone in the industry seems to know it’s a debacle, just get rid of it.
I think it’s much much better to just leave ascended gear as trinkets..
3 legendaries and 5gold -_-
It retains its purple font and name (doesn’t get suffixed) BUT it can be put in the mystic forge together with exotics.. I believe this is a bug that will get addressed in the future. I’m so confident that I transmuted my 3 legendaries.
No please no more new currencies. Just let us buy any ascended piece using the ones we have now.. Ascended amulets and earrings from pristine fractal relics for example…
this thread is essentially a petition to add pointed ears for humans
And I see nothing wrong with it! Add red eye color too pls! And a bit of glow to human skin and I’m happy. Wait.. Did I just request to have an option to make my human look like a vampire from twilight?
Making my mesmer look a bit more canthan..
Mockingbird’s new look (with Bolt + The Minstrel)
I’d happily swap my bolt for a dreamer if i can wield a bow. I think the dreamer is one of the coolest legendaries.
Also, making SAB a permanent fixture in GW2 PvE will give another thing for whiners to complain about in the future.
I’ve never had any problems with my iWarden. I started the game with a mesmer using sword/focus and I’ve never changed weapons since. I can’t explain it really, but once you’ve gotten used to the focus skills, it’s rather easy to set up a good combo to maximize the damage of your warden that I feel like a good focus mesmer is much much better than a pistol mesmer, damage and control-wise.. Just my opinion.
I actually think Meteorlogicus is better than Incinerator actually, despite having less effects.
How about we just have humans and in the slider options you have one for ears and you can make pointer?
Screw elves they’re lame.
We’ve got better races, Humans number 1
Charr, cat people for the furries.
Gremlins known as asuras for people who like goblins and tinkerers
Plant people for vegans
Giant shape shifting people for the otherkins.Seriously, elves :|
This. I’d like more options in customizing my human. More eye colors, more hair colors, longer slider options for ears.
The super shield effects are so cool even though it doesn’t have footprints. I would love the other legendaries to be as good!
Game Over.
I love it but I think making it permanent will diminish its appeal. I want it to be seasonal too. Like Snowball Mayhem of Wintersday which was an absolute blast, it should make me look forward to the next april fool’s or whatever they wanna name this ‘holiday’.
Will sab be permanent?
You know, these issues could all be resolved if they’d allow us more freedom in editing our characters. Want your human character to look like elves? Then give us more options in character creation!
tl;dr
I would’ve liked an elven race too. Although I agree that the humans are the ‘elven’ race comparatively speaking, the fantasy/majesty/mystery that elves have hasn’t really been translated in any of gw2’s existing races (Sylvari simply pales in comparison). Elves are usually an ancient/superior race, the complete opposite of sylvari. Although I’d much rather have another profession though (like the ritualist), than another race.
I am confident that this is a bug though.. Slowly, transmuted legendaries are being fixed so that they maintain their status, so I’m sure we’ll eventually be able to upgrade our transmuted twilights and sunrises to eternities.
Hmm, if Mario gets to jump over GW2 then Mario wins, but if GW2 is able to touch Mario, he’s done for.
I love GW2’s mini games like wintersday’s snowball mayhem and SAB. It’s a refreshing break that keeps me from being totally jaded from PvE. I do however wonder how they could make so much awesome weapon skins (like the super shield) and still neglect the legendaries that desperately needs effect upgrades.
T_T I WANT WALLPAPERS TOO!!!!!!!!!! /grovel
OMG. Anet my faith in you is restored.
Next to the minstrel, meteor needs a graphic update the most. Despite having great skins, exotic scepters and focus have much better effects.
Some say it is a legend, other say they have actually been there! For those who dare, I call it WvWvW
-_- not close enough.
