Forum Warrior: Black Belt in Ninja Edits
I’m all for helping newer players get a better experience, but not at the expense of veterans. There is no excuse for changing the entire system instead of just using it as an additional UI instead.
Shh the only ones who are upset by this change is us, the vocal minority. Anet used sophisticated metrics to determine that this is what’s best for the game.
Next gemstore update: buy the gem conversion upgrade for 1100 gems to convert gems and gold in smaller increments!
I would loved to wear the crimson mask with the female noble count outfit. would’ve been sick~!
I took some screens for you~
Thank you very much! <3 You are so nice
Although I’m a bit underwhelmed and confused. I thought it would look mesmer-ish because of the name. I don’t quite understand the theme.
Can you post a pic? I can’t go online for a few hours and im dying to know how it looks like
Isn’kitten little too early for april fools?
Anet’s CS is the best, no question about it. I will rage and criticize everything I dislike, but I’m yet to find fault in how they handle my tickets. <3 In every other game I play, Anet’s CS is the benchmark.

Thank you very much for the updates. <3
Personally, I feel like the personal story could be unlocked earlier. I like how I could gain experience by doing it as an alternative to heart quests.
Hmm I only have 3 level 80 characters. among which I have almost 5k hours on my mesmer alone followed by guardian. I chose these classes because they remind me of the ritualist more than its supposed spiritual successor, the engineer.
ArcheAge is going live tomorrow, maybe I’ll give that a shot.
That game might be a mess for a few months. I’ve heard that the headstart was…. bad.
AA might come off with a rocky start.
I thought it would be a good alternative to GW2 as well, but seeing the feedback after the beta, I don’t think it’ll do as well as people had initially anticipated.
It’s tiresome seeing your name plastered everywhere with the same theme of belittling, marginalizing, and contradictory double talk post after post after post.
Sorry if I come off …sharp. It’s not a personal attack. But hey, you can certainly go ahead and report my post again if you’d like. Afterall, I’m pretty sure I’m not the guy everyone hopes to avoid when they click on a thread.
I was gonna say the same thing, but it’d be more fun to let people look for the contradictions by themselves buried throughout his walls of texts ala Where’s Waldo.
:O I’m surprised Dervish is more popular than Ritualist.
I have learned over the course of a few weeks to not to bother to engage with Vayne on any level as you will be dismissed unless you agree with him/her.
Why people who have been using this forum for much, much longer than me haven’t learned this valuable and forum experience enhancing lesson, I don’t know.
For every person who hates me on these forums, another really likes me. I’m okay with that.
Not really.
It doesn’t matter if the forums is a minority or not.
After the patch, someone who’s better at question wording should make the poll. /ninja’d

I hope so! But it’s a bit too big at the moment. Would be fine if it’s only as large as mini kuunavang.
It looks awesome!

He should’ve worded it better then. It’s silly to assume that someone would think that ABSOLUTELY every single person in the game hated the patch anyway.
If you look at the forums some people where trying to say just that. (ABSOLUTELY)
Hyperbolic vs categorical
Which is the argument being tried anyway – the patch was terrible and kills puppies and if you disagree you must be fanboy white knighting.
I don’t like the patch. But whoever (if there’s any) thinks that anyone who likes it is just being fanboy white knighting let’s fighting is a kitten and a puppy hater.
I’m sure there are a few obnoxious ones but it’s mostly the update defenders that lump everyone that has a problem with the patch as some horde that hates everything, doesn’t know how good we got it or something. Using a bunch of misleading words and political talk to muddy the water.
There are obvious white knights and extreme fanboys as much as there are just plain haters in the forums anyway. Personally, I just choose to ignore people who aren’t on my side on a particular topic. XD

Would be okay with some adjustments just means its NOT ok now.
Pretty much.
Hell might be OK with air conditioning, a snow cone machine, and cable. ; )
LOL I know I would be ok with the patch if it included a snow cone machine.
The vote is kinda bias imho, should just be “Do you like this new changes? Yes/No/Not apply”. Breaking down the not-like into so many categories while like in just one is an attempt to divert the Nah votes.
Btw. I voted “not apply” option, since the trait update already kill my desire to make new alts, this update really just reinforce it.
Yes the vote is pretty well worded to divert people from the dislike vote. Pretty sneaky.
Nothing sneaky about it. It’s simply that so many people seem to HATE this change and others might not feel as strongly.
The truth is if peoiple are voting it would be okay with some changes, they’re probably closer to liking it than not, because I gave them that option.
I could have put I like it but it would be better. I didn’t, to make it fairer.
The bottom line is it’s not as dire as some are painting it, period.
Than word it,
Like
Dislike
N/A
Not sure yetthe way it’s worded now is so vague. I could put do you think congress is ran well? yes/no/it could with changes, well duh dislike and changes are nearly the samething. That’s why people dislike it.
Doesn’t matter. Would be okay with some adjustments just means its NOT ok now.
Ah that’s too bad.
Anyway, Hi-Rez i think is a smaller company than Anet, but they still have this form. Of course, I don’t think Smite is as complex as GW2 since it’s just a MOBA, but I think forms like this at least give the illusion that our feedback is necessary. It’s probably also useful in identifying which aspect of the game the community wants improved the most so they can prioritize.
300 staff at anet, million of players an forms to review.
Wont work
I’ve said it before. Aion did it and it worked!
Do you have their sample form? I’d like to see it anyway
Community Feedback Form Sample
Now, this is from a different game genre altogether, but since some people feel like they aren’t paying much attention to the community and relying too much on metrics, do you guys think something like this for GW2 would help?
As for people that keep bringing up AA…
Archeage is nothing like GW2. For one, it’s tab-target without dodge. It has quest hubs, worse dungeons with 3 player limit, no raids, etc. All it has is open world pvp, where guilds will control open land, raze your house and ships, and you will be left helpless without a mega guild to protect you. It also uses labor points for everything… no seriously, literally for everything. If you want to harvest, craft, open loot, you will need labor points. Just think how “energy” works in those facebook games, and that’s archeage’s labor point system.
I’ve also seen a youtube feedback saying it would take around $200,000 to get the max equips or something. Is this true?
Learn to walk before you run.
Sorry Leo, but you’re wrong. I can make the assertion that you are naturally bald and as soon as people see you they will know whether or not this is true. And I can always have the opinion you’re bald even if I see you with full hair as that is my opinion which may not be changed by facts.
I think you are confused. I am not arguing about the difference between assertion v opinion.
I dunno why people like to refer to GW2’s entire playerbase in a thread that is specifically addressed to the community. In most games I’ve played, the community (i.e. the forums, groups, reddit etc.) is aware of its identity and distinguishes itself from the general playerbase.
Also, arguments based solely on belonging in either minority/majority is an ad populum.
I’m making no argument as to the rightness or wrongness of the feature pack based on minority/majority appeal. My assertion is merely that even if a majority of forum posters are whining about it, it does not follow that it will necessarily hurt the game. I am of the opinion that the whiners are wayyyyy overstating their individual importance to the integrity of the game, but I suppose time will tell if I’m right or not.
Your assertion is these people are overstating their importance and thus will have no meaningful impact in the game solely because they are in a minority, which is invalid in itself. I for one believe that Lilith generates more positive traffic towards the game via his/her forum events. My point is you have no reliable gauge in estimating every poster’s value and relying on ad populum isn’t gonna get you merit.
I did not say my assertion was that these people are overstating their importance. I said that it is my opinion that these people are overstating their importance. I may be correct or incorrect in the end, but my opinion is just that: an opinion. Even if they are overstating their importance they could still have a meaningful impact on the game regardless of their status as a minority or majority. There’s only one way to know for sure and that is to wait and see. Popular metrics are the only thing that can be objectively measured with any reliability, but Tyria isn’t what you’d call a “controlled scientific environment.”
You know that assertion and opinion are synonyms right?
An assertion is provable or disprovable while an opinion is neither provable or disprovable. I’m going by what I learned in high school debate rather than strict dictionary definition.
Learn to walk before you run.
“Learn to walk before you run” is exactly what Anet tried to do with the NPE. Heh.
I concur, but being forced to walk when you know you can run seems to be the issue. But it seems they are fixing that already and I’m glad.

You people flatter yourselves. It’ll take many more than the number of whiners in these forums to have a meaningfully negative impact on the future of GW2.
Assertion
Let’s not argue semantics.
May be pertinent: http://mmohuts.com/editorials/buy-to-play-vs-free-to-play
Guild Wars is easily the most successful buy to play game, but how much revenue could it have made for NCSoft in its lifetime? $200 million? $250 million? $350 million tops. $350 million is a lot of money, but that’s since the game’s original release in 2005. Now look at Nexon, the free to play MMO developer and publisher behind games like Nexon and Mabinogi. They reported $550 million in revenue in 2009. That’s A LOT of money in ONE year. Yeah, I know it’s not exactly a fair comparison, as I’m comparing one game to an entire company, but I think it’s fair to say that free play is more profitable for game companies. After all, why would so many game developers keep releasing free to play MMORPGs if buy to play was more profitable? To give you guys a better comparison, World of Warcraft – the most successful MMORPG ever makes about $800 million a year.

As much as I criticize and whine against Anet’s recent decisions, I really don’t want people to leave the game. I blame it on my borderline personality disorder!
People leaving the forums on the other hand, I have no problem with.
Because this seems like a very positive and good thread for kindly and politely leaving, I will also say, good day all. I hope you find the game for you. I’ll miss everyone here, but I’m also leaving. <3
No more Asura cuties, but I’ll leave you with one last one.
Oh noes Take care lilith.
There are so many threads detailing what they don’t like about the patch and the only thing you get from those is that everyone’s a secret key farmer? Selective attention much?
I was a secret key farmer. But then I realized nothing from keys is really worth my time doing that when I could be scouring the world for more Linen.
It really is very inefficient as a source of gold and one of the least intrusive methods of farming. I dunno why it gets demonized so much. /shrug
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Do you only see things in black and white? Why the penchant for false dichotomy?
This case is black and white because there’s nothing complicated about it.
The only people upset are the ones that lost the keyfarm, but aren’t even brave enough to openly admit that.
Instead they go around complaining how bad it is for gameplay and combat depth in early levels when they couldn’t care less about something they’d normally only do once every few months (read create a new alt to play) and that’s dealt with in an hour.
If people are upset about losing the farm, they should say so, not hide behind false concern and give Anet an ultimatum, all people ever wanted was to power level, levelling to 10 is allegedly faster now than it was before, so what’s the problem? You know, besides no more keyfarm?

You make it sound like farming is a bad thing. For all we know, key farmers are doing so because it’s the only thing left they enjoy in the game. How would you feel if the last aspect of the game that you like gets removed for no valid justification? Anet already stated that it is acceptable after all.
Nobody enjoys key farming, it’s a 10~15 minute loop people repeat N times for a chance to get tickets so they can trade them for expensive skins to sell them on the market for gold.
You do not speak for everyone. A person who really is only invested in making gold will find key farming one of the more inefficient methods of generating income.
Ok, so you are insisting people key farm for the enjoyment, not the rewards? Which by not being limited to gold have a valid appeal unlike what you are trying to paint.
What was so enjoyable on repeating the personal story till 10 while skipping all the dialog, deleting the char and do it again and again?

I’m not surprised if it is. I don’t mind though, and I don’t think I should concern myself with how other people earn their money if they aren’t doing anything illegal. I also try to avoid imposing my morals or ethics on other people because I always ignore theirs anyway. :/
The only thing I choose to believe about people who are vocal in either side of the spectrum is that they are all passionate about the game in one way or another.
Meanwhile, people who criticize anet gets paid by rival companies. /kappa

Do people use offhand torches for mesmers more than mainhand scepter that it doesn’t get any changes for the feature patch?.
I don’t wvw or pvp anymore so I don’t know how good it is in those modes.
Trial mode perhaps.
Unfortunately this is just how GW2 is. It cannot retain players and there’s no way to fix that. So my suggestion to Anet is go back to the standalone expansion pack model. You’re not gonna keep this game alive with the current business model because it will never have enough player retention. Changes like this are almost death throes. You can’t keep this up.
Exactly – as a B2P game should. That way, the people who want changes get it, and those that don’t can opt not to.
I bought the game knowing full-well what it had to offer, and rightly had expectations based on the information I had prior to purchasing it. But I also understood that there will be limitations.
The issue for me now is that when Anet implements features that affect me negatively, I have no options but to adapt (or quit). This would probably sound insensitive to most people, but I do not care about new players, and they shouldn’t have the ability to change my gameplay experience precisely because GW2 is B2P. If they want something different, then let them have it without affecting me. Major overhauls should be optional as per your model of choice – release expansions instead as you did with GW1. Let me pay for these changes.
As it is now, I can’t express my dislike with a sense of fulfillment by not subscribing anymore, or by not purchasing items from your cash shop like I can with F2P – because you already got my money when I bought the game. I can only air my grievances here.
As a preemptive against apologists: You can’t tell me I already got my money’s worth. That is for me to say. I didn’t ask for nor do I expect anything more than what I initially paid for. Anet chose to expend resources on things and gave it to me for free via LS and feature packs and I am grateful for it. But I shouldn’t be subjected to changes I don’t want when I choose to replay the game.
