Deaths Fear [Fear] / The Hardcore Caravan [HC]
Forum Warrior: Black Belt in Ninja Edits
There’s already a recommended level tag for personal story chapters. And maps have level indications on them too. You know what killed the cat.
what did I say that was not in that post or a logical inference?
WvW and PvP: buttons for immediate access removed till levels 18 and 22
As it was full stated…
“WvW and PvP will be messaged to players via the level-up notification system at levels 18 and 22, and the buttons in the top left will be hidden until then, but experienced users can use the portals in Lion’s Arch or use hot keys to access those game modes immediately.”
If the story is available at level 2, then there is no “big moment”. No “looking forward to earning and unlocking it”.
The big moment at the start of the game is the intro into the game and learning the basic mechanics through Chapter 1 story line.
I’m not sure why everyone is thinking it has to be level 10… So let me get this straight, everyone thinks that once you create a new character you skip the intro and part 1 of the first chapter until level 10? And just randomly pop into the game? That makes no sense…
The intro leads into the first part of chapter 1. First chapter is content for level 1-10… so you have to be level 10 to play level 1 content? What??? And so to play Chapter 2 (lvl 11-20) you need to be level 20? That’s completely backwards.
Chapter one part 2 leads you to your first scout and your first heart to get you started in exploring the game. To remove this until level 10 would make absolutely zero sense and would actually negatively impact what they are talking about doing in the update.
It makes much more sense for you to unlock Chapter 2 at 10 since that’s for 11-20 content. Everyone is taking what they are saying out of context, speculating, and panicking before any real details is released.
Obviously, If it’s going to come to in chunks now then it has to have stopping points and breaks in it. Why is a stopping point after you get out of the tutorial harder to believe in than a stopping point after level 10? Each will have a break in the pointer leading to the next step. When you get out of the tutorial the scout NPC can still direct you to the hearts. The break can be that after you do one heart you don’t get the mail that sends you off to Divinities reach. That can come when you ding level 10.
As to why level 10, it’s already set up and ready to be ported in. They’ve been testing it on all the people who bought the Chinese client. They know how well it works. Bugs have been removed. Why should they then completely rewrite the timing of when you get each separate stage of the personal story just for us? If the first step is changed, then the timing of each following step has to be changed also.
The other parts that have been changed have been pushed back. If weapon swapping, downed state, traits, etc. are all later then why wouldn’t this be?
Well, I guess we will find out soon enough, one way or another.
By the way, I’m hoping you’re right and I’m wrong.
I think the question we’re asking is why should it be when the fluidity of the personal story was never an issue within the community to begin with? Don’t fix what isn’t broken and all that. :/
My only issue is that the event has to be ran with a 3rd party program (teamspeak) in order to be successful. It’s been a while since wurm was introduced, and I still highly doubt any random group of people would be successful if they don’t use teamspeak room shazbawt something something.
It’d be kinda funny if it turns out Phlunt actually does have the best of intentions, he’s just nor very good at getting that across because he’s old, grumpy and stuck in a position he doesn’t really like all that much.
Would be more interesting if we find out he is good afterall AFTER he dies from protecting Taimi’s machine from inquest.
what about his bodyguards? would you also kill a number of innocent asura so they won’t tell anyone you killed their employee because he was somewhat of a jerk?
you sure that trip in omadd’s machine didn’t have any unintended effects?
I think it’s funny how we have achievements for killing thousands of sentient beings (bandits, inquest, centaurs, etc.) yet we bring a “story” character into the equation and suddenly it’s, “Moral quandary of the century!”
“Oh, but Labjax, those are bad guys.” How do you know? Did you go try to make peace with them? Did you ask all the peons if they’re a fan of the constant fighting and death?
That’s what I thought. Now let me punt Phlunt off a cliff like a football. :P
Bandits lit an orphanage on fire. Inquest abduct and experiment on live creatures. Bandits sell fellow humans to centaurs.
I’m not having a dialogue with arsonists. I have no pity for torturers. I’ll not weep for slavers.Phlunt took candy from a baby. A dangerous piece of candy. By law.
Phlunt has everything you need, you have nothing he wants.Well there IS an official Inquest Representative at the Arcane Council, and even their High Councillor seems to be somewhat aligned with them. So I wouldn’t trust Phlunt with this particular device knowing he is surrounded by them (might even be one of them).
They don’t have immediate threats to their race unlike Humans (Centaurs), Sylvari (Nightmare Court), Charr (Branded and Ghosts), Norn (Icebrood and Sons of Svanir) so I don’t mind if Mordremoth gives them something to worry about for a change. >:-(
There’s a section of Hoelbrak where Sons of Svanir stay, something to do with respecting their life choice, don’t remember. Out on the field, they’re fair game (literally).
I hear Phlunt was recommended by Zojja, he must have some merit.
I mean bandits are more akin to Inquests and Sons of Svanir that aren’t all inherently evil . They aren’t like the separatists that are beyond negotiation.
Bandits are outlaws mainly active in Kryta. Most bandits do not appear to fight for any particular cause or political ideal, but rather are just thieves and kidnappers only in it for the money. Many bandits are former farmers, displaced from their lands by centaur raids. They feel betrayed by their government and the queen’s inability to protect them and feeling they have no alternatives, they turn to a life of crime.
I’m not sure if Zojja recommended Phlunt exactly though. For all we know, he might’ve volunteered for unknown personal motives.
So, Braham told me about the summit you’re planning, and I talked to Zojja. She talked to the Arcane Council, and one thing led to the other, and now Councillor Phlunt is here in Scarlet’s ley line lab with me, breathing down my neck while I try to finish my device!
While I do doubt that Phlunt is actually evil himself, I don’t want him to have the machine when he is in the company of potential villains while he can’t even defend himself. Plus he’s just so annoying I wanna kick him in the face. Anyway, I dislike Asura in general, I would’ve liked to see them deal with a couple of mordrem attacks on Rata Sum by themselves so they would be forced to cooperate with us on their own accord. :X
And when they finally decide to attend the summit, I would have the liberty to rub it in their faces and say “I told you so!”. I’m more petty than Taimi :X

GvG is very different. You should play it to understand. That’s why a lot of people have been asking for it since release.
You mean a pvp formant in GW1 called GvG, guild vs guild is in all pvp games.
SMH of course I meant GW1. >_< Your argument over semantics is borderline trolling.
It not meaning to be what bugs me if ppl who crys for gvg they are saying something different then they mean they want gw1 gvg and not guild vs guild.
Dude, context.

I dunno where you got the idea that we don’t spend money to buy gems. :/ You can’t get everything in the gemstore from BLTC alone you know.
Guild Wars without… guild wars?
hmmm
Kind of a fools argument. We have a War (wvw) and there are guild in that war (holding keep for the guild). Pvp not really a “war” so GW1 was missing the war part where in GW2 we have both.
Why not? War can also be defined as: a situation in which people or groups compete with or fight against each other. In GW1 case, the competing groups are (precisely) guilds, the title being apt all the more so considering it revolves around guild halls. In GW2, although technically there are still guilds fighting against guilds, the emphasis is less so.
That not really a war though that more of a sport or just a battle. Wars tend to be much bigger and last longer there also something to win and lose.
That’s just an argument on semantics though. The definition I’ve used is from the dictionary. What you win or lose in GvG is your elo rating XD
Then you can call every thing that is a fight a war its a way too big definition of a word not the definition of the ideal. I guess elo rating is something to lose and win but to lose right to fight other groups is a bit push to keep ppl fighting in an rvr environment not to say its the best that it could be but still it better then a small group of ppl losing elo.
Battle
a fight between opposing armies, groups of ships, groups of people etc, especially one that is part of a “larger war”.
What was the larger war in GW1? GW2 each fight for a keep tower camp is a battle for the larger war of that week that is part of even a bigger war of fighting who vs who.
My point is RvR is about as close as you can get to a real war environment in mmorpgs DAoC was a “war” game because it had rvr even ESO is a part “war” game because it too has rvr and so dose GW2 with its wvw a type of rvr.

I really don’t see the point in arguing over semantics especially since I think the emphasis should be put on guild.

Iirc I’ve only had 2 keys drop normally for me from mobs in 5k hours of gametime. :/ It felt like I got a precursor or something.

YES!!! PLEASE!!!
I’m so kittening sick of those stupid farmers killing everything with one hit in the human tutorial, ruining my game experience every single time I try to make a new character (why in the hell they can bypass the event that close the doors). Key farming is exactly what the Queensdale train used to be.
I want to PLAY the game, not sit there and see how this parasites kill everything with their stupids staff-guardian ruining the game for me (and those who want to PLAY the game) so they can get a desirable/exclusive reward without expending a single in-game coin/real-world money.
Wut? I rarely encounter people at the tutorial even though I farm keys.
:/ I don’t understand why you would complain about not being able to kill stuff in tutorial when it doesn’t give any loots and there are plenty of other mobs to kill outside the shortest path towards the boss. If you’re taking the quickest route, then I suppose you also want to get out of the instance as fast as you can.
Granted, this might be a joke, and it just went whoosh over my head. :/ But in my defense, sarcasm doesn’t translate well via text.

Does the queen now expect perfection?
Will Logan never see us again?
Are the recruits going to become bleedin’ useful?
Is there going to be no one left to pound into the ground like a big nail?
These are all VERY serious questions.
“by all six gods, what is that thing? it’s huge!”
“brace yourselves, think it’s gonna explode!”
“i was too kitten francis”half of my enjoyment of keyfarming was giggling like an idiot at the same innuendo jokes i’d tell myself every run.
And creating characters with the word “key” on their names. XD
i just use Brunokey. i’m that uncreative. i do it for all temporary chars (that i create just to see if i can achieve a certain look on the wardrobe, or with a total makeover kit) too, not only farming characters.
My original character is named Mockingbird so I use variations of the name with the word key like “Mockey Bird” and “Mock Keybird” XD. I really enjoy looking at fellow key farmers with creative names that incorporates the word key

This is the successor to Guild Wars, but there’s no guild bases. no guild capes?
D:
Guild Wars name is based on LORE not the fact that GvG, etc was in the game. That was a coincidence only.
How many times will this be commented on…..
YOU CAN GvG in game, just not instanced like GW1. There are plenty of places to do it and guilds that do GvG are doing it in those places.
Sigh, there’s always at least one person (I’d wager a PvEr) that doesn’t care about GvG and brings this up. Does it matter that it’s based ~off of the lore~? It was a core feature in Guild Wars 1 and I don’t blame anyone for being upset that it isn’t in this game. Currently GvGs have to be played out in OS and is rife with trolling by randoms who show up to grief.
Yes, I think we all pretty much all realize it’s ~FrOm ThE LoRe~ by now, you’re just missing the point.
And the Guild Wars lore is about human affairs anyway. /shrug
Good enough, key farming is stupid, and obviously not something they wanted players to do.
Yes obviously anything that stops players from buying gems and keys in the BLTC must be stopped.
I typed a lengthy reply, but my session expired (wtf guys, I’ve been posting all day, there’s no excuse for this). To summarize, key farming is a dumb exploit that allows players to circumvent an entire revenue channel, and it’s surprising they took this long to fix it.
If we do not have any means of converting gold to gems, this would probably have merit.
Every month I spend $20 on gems. Except for one or two foolish times after launch they haven’t been for keys. I buy items with firm prices you can buy directly. If key farming is nerfed I still won’t be buying keys. The profit/loss from me to ANet will still be the same, but my feelings of losing a part of the game that I enjoyed and found mildly profitable won’t be positive. For me and ANet, that is a net loss.
Me too! I’m not even after things to sell from the chests, it’s just so unreliable as a source of income. I just find farming keys and opening a chest every time I finish to be fun. It’s what I do most of the time when I’m online. It’s the least stressful way to be a bit productive when online imho since I don’t have to rely on anyone to do it, and I have absolute control on time management.
Key farming is one of the things I enjoy the most in guild wars 2 for some reason. It’s not even the most efficient way to get gold.

death by caaaaake?
lol so cute I wanna eat it!
Look, it’s really not what it seems to be…
It’s ah… It’s the ASURA! They plan an invasion of Queensdale with their gimmicky golems! We’re just trying to work up a defense plan for our good human buddies, hehe…
You better be tellin the truth. You won’t want us to unleash our secret weapon on Black Citadel.
Hi Azrael! <3 I love Lightning! I think there’s a new hairstyle that would go really well with your look!…
We already got him to attend the summit. Who’s to say he hadn’t ran to some more mordrem on his way back to Rata Sum? Certainly not me… teehee let me escort you on your way back councillor
Phlunt’s projected route home:
The Grove: Summit location -> Asura gate to Lion’s Arch
Lion’s Arch: Asura gate to the Grove -> Asura gate to Rata Sum
Rata Sum: Asura gate to Lion’s Arch -> His home/office/wherver within the cityI’d say your plan needs a bit of work, unless you’re able to get Mordrem within either of the three cities.
We’re taking a trip to drytop first to get some more stuff from the leyline hub. :X Wanna come with us?
:( Oh man, just why’d they have to release the arctic fox mini when the conversion is too kitten high? I just can’t afford it right now!
Hopefully they’d release it again on xmas coz it’s the closest mini in GW2 to my dog.
I wish I have a master salvage kid. :*(
Here is my interpretative cosplay of Diaval in dragon form again from Maleficent (film). Special participation by a mini seraph juggernaut lol.
Still the same character from my first entry (Maleficent) just using reaper of grenth.

:/ I just had 2 drop from me in succession when I didn’t even want it by opening less than 10 chests. If I could give it to you I would
What is doing an human in a Charr post? Want to be a meal? But now i think… Stinky meat make me sick… So dont worry Leo Paul you can stay
Well, I read on our forums that Charrs are planning an invasion on human territory so I’m spying… I just happened upon this charr cuteness overload of a thread!
That is so nice of him. Despite its flaws, this game really has a good community, an excellent customer support and a respectable dev team.
The fact of the matter is that under Asuran law she answers to the council, not to the pact.
She does. I don’t. I don’t see the council running into Durmand Priory taking possession of their asuran inventions. Sure, Taimi might not be a member, but I am a commander of the pact and I’m overseeing this process. The original agreement was for the council to verify whether the device is working or not. Adding further stipulations should’ve at least warranted further discussion considering how the device affects more than just asura.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
The dev in question has another account that CAN kick him. He’s done it before and he admitted so himself on another screenie in another incident challenging his abuse of authority. Heck you can even check his twitter account and see for yourself that he’s the same person.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Hmm, I’m sorry but that’s a false dichotomy. I would’ve preferred to cover for Taimi and claim guardianship over the device under the name of the Pact and the Priory since it was a.) primarily designed to counteract the activities of an elder dragon and b.) completed with my assistance. The idle conversation among Phlunt’s associates suggests that there are people in the council that favors Zojja anyway.
Arcane Council Guard: Such questionable fraternization should be closely monitored.
Arcane Council Guard: Agreed. The council has been too lenient with Zojja since Snaff’s passing. Her recent activities are especially concerning.
Arcane Council Guard: Entrusting a progeny with critical projects, allowing her to run around with those reckless door busters.
Arcane Council Guard: At least they keep her and her golem out of sight.
Arcane Council Guard: How true. (chuckle)
Supposing this is real, the Guild Wars 2 Conduct Breaches & Outcomes states the following:
“We’ve created our Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conduct (the “Rules of Conduct”) to make sure that Guild Wars 2 is a safe, fun game environment for all players. The Rules of Conduct contain restrictions on bad language and in-game behavior, and on inappropriate names that may be rude, crude, or socially unacceptable. They contain protections for you, so your privacy is maintained, and for us, as developer and publisher of Guild Wars 2 , so that the integrity of the game is preserved.”
So, by blocking someone’s picture how is that compromising the integrity of the game?
It’s funny how people seem to defend Anet because “ToS!”. :/ Apparently, they are okay with having random tests of obedience however Anet sees fit and be reprimanded if you don’t obey regardless of how odd the demand is. I didn’t know we were playing Mad King Says.
So, agreeing to do something when you create an account but not doing it when it’s supposedly asked of you because it deemed as ‘odd’, but in no way requires significant effort on your part, is just fine?
11. You will follow the instructions of authorized personnel while in Guild Wars 2 or on the official Guild Wars 2 website.”
Of course, this is assuming that the DC wasn’t just a fluke. if it was, this whole thread should not exist.
Is it -that- hard to show a little respect for a mod? for just a couple of seconds? It’s far from Mad King Says.
I didn’t sign away my consumer rights against unfair practices when I clicked it.
Let’s see how you’d feel when you get kicked out of the game just because a dev didn’t like how your character looks at that particular moment (not Kodan in this instance).
And I imagine most organizations would be quick to detach themselves from or disown individuals who commit crime outside their office.

The OP was denied his right to play (even if it was just for a couple of seconds) because a dev didn’t want him in his screenshot. I didn’t know we were playing Mad King Says.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Am I the only one who thinks Phlunt could secretly be an inquest backer? I mean, with how the asura and inquest are, I would imagine the inquest would try to get someone into the highest position.
I wouldn’t be surprised although Councillor Yahk seems to be the Inquest’s official representative in the Arcane Council.
Someone from a while back posted screenies of this dev admitting to kicking people out of the game. The problem is that the reasons behind him doing it seems to have gotten particularly petty and more of a personal whim. Without anything else to go by this time (and taking into account how and why he’s done it before, not to mention how I judge his character to be based on his tweets), I feel he’s taking too much liberty in exercising his authority.
What I’m saying is, although definitely subjective, is that he is obviously an kitten.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Apparently, the dancing bears(sounds so silly to say) didn’t mind him being there. He was playing an instrument. The only sour grape was the dev. Why should he have to move? …Again if all of what the OP said is true. There are always two sides to a story.
If you look at the one screenshot that was posted by someone else, you can notice that the screenshot was taken from a transformed character. A quick look shows that one of the Kodan isn’t showing a name above their head, meaning that’s who took the screenshot.
So, we have the word of one of the Kodan players that the character playing an instrument wasn’t causing a problem and was welcome there by all but the ANet person. The poster simply can’t confirm or deny any other parts of the story. However, there have been reports of problems with this particular ANet person before.
Yes, I believe someone abused their powers. And I think they’ll get away with it, just like they always have.
If it was any other dev I would most certainly give him/her the benefit of the doubt. But I’ve been around for a while enough to have read the other threads regarding issues of abuse of power about this person both on this forum and on gw2 reddit to feel it isn’t so farfetched that he’d do something like this (again).
All A.Net employees can use the tag/icon. But not all employees have GM powers.
You’ll notice the A.Net employee isn’t named GM Der_py.
No,
2. ArenaNet Senior GMs all have character names akin to GM Madi Walker and have the ArenaNet Guild Tag.
3. All ArenaNet GMs have GM ‘Hopefully Cool Alias’.#### for a display name.
only senior GMs have character names starting with GM. Others have an account name starting with GM, the character name can be named anything else. Regardless, I find it amusing that that GM’s name can’t be written on the forums as it gets “kittened”.
It is against the rules of the forum to call out an A.Net employee even their characters.
To the OP, man are you one whiney troll. I don’t think an A.Net employee caused your DC. They would need to know your IP and it would take a bit to search a database. You just probably DC’ed at an inopportune point and blamed the A.Net person.
What a bunch of malarkey!!!
I really wish you wouldn’t make it your full-time job to browse the threads and attack anyone who has anything negative to say about ANET. Negative commentary, personal attacks, and non-constructive behavior are, as far as I am aware, frowned upon here.
I was more like WTF – only a GM account would have such rights in game. It it wasn’t a GM account – then it is a no.
I am just trying to balance the obvious automatic negativity that occurs on this forum.
I dunno how much power he wields, but his official job description is:
responsible for maintaining fair game-play in Guild Wars 2 by enforcing the User Agreements and Rules of Conduct as well as reducing instances of payment fraud. …involves assessing player conduct in relation to major violations, helping determine appropriate penalties when violations are detected, and analyzing both game and eCommerce data to detect attacks, strengthen rules, and identify weaknesses.
I hardly think not moving when asked to because he wants to take a screenie constitutes a major violation – at least, enough for him to activate powers to kick him out of the game though.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
This isn’t the first time something like this happened relating to this person though. I could put links here of topics about this anet employee but it would get me an infraction. I’d be happy to pm them to anyone who wants to read them though.
I’m actually pretty fond of most of the devs I meet ingame. Except this one. When one of my friends got treated similarly by him and she filed a complaint to customer support they even gave us advice on how to submit a complaint directly to NCSoft if she wanted. Maybe you should do the same OP.
(edited by Leo Paul.1659)
Any organization concerned with its reputation and with building sustainable trust with internal and external stakeholders, must recognize that legalistic arguments about what one has a right to do undermines credibility. The lens of judgment is made from ethical principles – what’s right, fair and responsible — not justifications based on legality rather than morality.
An ethical people and companies often do more than they are required to do and less than they are allowed to do. The law tell us what we can’t do (i.e., prohibitions) and, sometimes what we must do (i.e., mandates); it does not answer the bigger question what should we do.
Ethical vs Legal
is the machine really related to dragon energy however?
i thought it “simply” toned down the waypoint “noise” so the dragon would not really pay attention to it.
i suppose the inquest could attempt the opposite process to attract more dragon attention to this or that place after studying it but it’s a bit far fetched. i mean, i can see why the inquest would steal it given the chanche (it is a powerful and pretty critical piece of machinery right now), but i don’t see how it relates to them being obsessed by dragon energy.
This is just a theory, but you can probably guide an attack by mordrems by turning down the energy around while retaining the (mordrem-attracting) frequency of your intended target’s waypoints.

Well, the person on the screenshot, the one who did the kicking/banning during Escape from LA, and the one who allegedly did the kicking in order to bring a guild’s members to their Tequatl overflow is one and the same. It’s not like there isn’t any precedence to him kicking on a whim. /shrug
Dem charrs and their cute fluffy tails. I’ll keep one as a pet. <3

I went in nude.
Nude.
Completely and totally nude.
I’m talking bare. No clothes.
Naked. Absolutely naked.
The way we’re born out of our mother’s life portal.
Nnnnnnnneeeeeeeeewwwwwwddddd.
It was fun. Good party. Fun times. Nice memories.
Nude.
You where asked to move and you didn’t.
Maybe instead of being a jerk, you could have moved when you were asked and be kind?I support the Dev if they did D/ced you out for the short time.
Abuse of power or not… I rather someone abuse power to bring justice than not. It’s their game not yours. We all have the right to access to play their game but we don’t own it.
Appreciate for having the access to play or don’t play at all.
Be kind to others or leave the game.
Paradox.
You would think Anet would’ve cautioned devs by now about doing these sorts of things on a whim after the whole Escape from Lion’s Arch quaggan-dev-afk-kicking/banning-to-let-a-guild’s-members-join-their-overflow fiasco by now.

i don’t think the arcane council would see it as thievery unless he claims it to be his own creation. she -is- a kid and the issue at hand is critical to asura influence.
waypoints and portals seem to be asuras main grip on tyria’s economy allowing for quick transportation that only they can control and exact fees for.
With a machine as powerful as that, and knowing that the inquest is so hell-bent on manipulating dragon energies, I would personally have handed it to the Pact or the priory at least. I don’t want 1 race (and its shady council) monopolizing it.
Phlunt might turn out to be against the inquest who knows, but even if he is, I seriously doubt he can protect the machine against them should they decide to steal it.
