If they aren’t “my friend” why should I be “formal and polite” to those that kitten in my well whenever they choose to? They just flipped the table and said “screw you” to everyone who has played this game for longer than 2 days.

Also, if someone can’t handle valid criticism, and especially outrage, then maybe they shouldn’t make all these changes without asking their people first. I guarantee that this update wouldn’t have rolled out like it has if they had just had PLAYER TESTING. And then, wouldn’t you know it, there would be much less outrage at a product that is progressively going downhill.

You don’t seem to get the point of valid and understandable ways of conveyance and you don’t understand business either.

You should be formal and polite because they are a company, you should be formal to all companies and polite because it’s the good thing to do

I’m not applying for a job.

Some people do like the changes, and I will respect them for it. But I honestly feel that the starting zones provide players less freedom than necessary to cement a solid first impression.

The things highlighted on the video are just awful. Whoever likes those specific changes gets no respect from me. They can glamorize it all they want but they can never change my mind.

"Leveling as a Reward" Experience Crippling!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Leo Paul.1659

Leo Paul.1659

So let me get this straight, veteran players have been wanting more hardcore content implemented to this game because they felt that it is too casual and that it didn’t feel challenging enough, that it was too faceroll, and that progression didn’t feel all that good because you got pretty much everything from the start.

So while they didn’t get level 80 endgame content, they did get early game stuff that gives you that progression, that gives you that challenge because you don’t get most of your traits and skills so early on. The game is still casual, but you can’t faceroll through content anymore, at least not early on.

So while it’s not the dungeons and more world bosses made into challenging behemoths, they did so with the leveling and the system they’ve put in place.

It really is all about perspective, and people just don’t seem to understand that they got what they wanted, but just because it’s not in a place where they expected it to be, they think it’s all wrong.

The game has become more challenging in this area, so open your eyes and appreciate it, because this is what you were looking for.

I really am buffled why veteran players complain that leveling is too hard now, when you want more hard kitten in this game…

Anet can’t win.

How is endgame content = early game stuff? Kitten logic right?

It’s not just about making more sense. It’s about the feeling of progression you never really got before. A new person coming to this game from another MMO didn’t have a lot of bling in the leveling process.

So you know, your stats would go up every time you leveled, but nothing told you that happened. You used to be able to level without ever noticing. You can’t do that now. It always gives you something. There’s always something unlocking.

I’m guessing for a new player, it might be a bit more involving if nothing else.

And the speed to level to 15 has been dramatically increased, which doesn’t hurt me.

No point Vayne. Look at all the posts in this topic. 80% of the people here complain because they like to complain. People would focus on speed leveling through the game and then complain their is nothing to do. This game imo is the fastest game to level in but they are all “hardcore” gamers so they will attack anything that isn’t WoW (gear treadmill) or a game that forces you to have 5 skill bars open because THATS HARDCORE!!! YEAH!!!! HARDCORE!!!!! ( Hey I can be sarcastic too! Awesome! I never knew! )

Everyone is complaining on the their decision, presentation, planning, and thought process. Not the direction, You’d be in heavy denial if you think this is a great execution.

TP was fixed. Rangers fixed. You know whats annoying? When someone reads a build on a forum and comes here and gets owned because they don’t know HOW to run the build. The changes to leveling imo will help people with that problem. Just because you go to a forum and pick a build doesn’t mean you know how to use it correctly or when would be best times to us skills. Not everyone is born with the GREAT INTELLIGENCE that all the Q.Q here were born with. Honestly I’m sure a good portion of these people have bad W/L ratio in PvP because they don’t know how to run their build. LVL 100 with 30%/70% W/L ratios. And you level here then go to ANY OTHER MMO and level there and see who gets to level 80 1st.

People running around with other people’s builds not knowing anything. This situation is a flaw by design. Accessibility is of course welcomed but I honestly don’t think people are as.. In need of help as you imply. Taking more time to get to lvl 80 is fine and perhaps preferred for people that enjoyed the progression aspect more. However without the meat that fills the husk just getting to 80 slower or quicker is meaningless and pointless.

Well idk I think the point for low level areas is to learn the game and I think this update does just that. Neither you or I can say how much help a new player needs because we obviously are not new players. Looking back at when I started playing GW2 I didn’t feel a sense of direction now with this new patch you have those guides.

And can you please explain what “meat that fills the husk” means because I honestly don’t understand you on that one.

You can get to lvl80 very fast in gw2 compared to other games but it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you get to level 80 without content,game,events, gatherings, objectives, goals, rewards,punishments, blood , sweat, tears.. or anything that makes it memorable or fun. so the comment on gw2 getting to lvl80 faster than other mmo’s is pointless. the husk is your comment from getting 1 – 80, meat would be the meat of the game. Anet should really make the meat of the game better instead of extending the time from lvl1 to 80 by menial tasks, monotonous means, and grinding frustrations.

I think Anet plans to change the meat, which makes sense because so many people don’t care at all about DEs.

They should’ve focused on that first.

That’s what a lot of people aren’t getting – it’s not just the impact of one change, but how it reveals the direction of the entire game that determines whether it’s worth a significant investment of time, energy, and money. Because MMO’s aren’t like other games – they are massive time sinks. Some people pour their whole lives into them. What that says about those people, I don’t know – but I do know that people expect something in return for their investment.

And Anet is not giving that.

That is clear now. This is what we can expect for the rest of the game’s lifespan. And it’s probably not enough for most players – which means people will be abandoning it in droves now, which in turn means less money to develop.

So much this. Instead of improving the sense of progression via additional weapon types for each class, or introducing more utility skills and traits, they gated what little we already have. Instead of adding new chapters to the personal story so we can play throughout the game without awkward pauses, they are now arbitrarily locked. Instead of adding new items, they just clump the old ones into collector achievements (and even gated a supposed improvement on our QoL via karma sink behind them).

It’s a matter of disillusionment for me. I now see where their priorities lie.

:O For some reason, my game looks uglier. WTF?

I also felt that it looks completely fuzzed over compared to before, a few people agreed with me thinking the game looked fuzzy now, and others said they noticed no change. My GPU is an Nvidia GT 555M, yours? I may try updating my display drivers later, too tired at the moment since I was up all night trying to get a lot of last minute stuff in before this doo doo stain of a patch.

Seems like it has something to do with SweeFX not working after the patch.

I feel like they should have made the tutorials an actual tutorial. Atm it just throws you out there, providing nothing but a small snippet of the story in an instanced gameworld.

Honestly, Anet really hit the nail on the head for tutorials/start game when they made GW:NF. It was interactive, it explained everything and if you really wanted to, you could skip it.

Unless they didn’t include the option for a full tutorial in their testing, I don’t see how someone could value level-gated skills and features as better >_>

Can’t help but feel like this was just the easier coughcheapercough option.

1. They tested it in China. Works great for them.

a vast majority of MMO’s have very, very different circumstances and environments for their eastern audiences over their western, this is because it is an industry-wide and widely acknowledged fact that what people want in a game in Asia and want people want in a game in the west are very, very different things. This is why “Anime” MMORPG’s that are ported from Asia are usually heavily modified for their western audiences or are very niche games with medium/low populations.

^This is pretty much it. Having played games from both markets, I’m not sure whether this change is targeted for the right audience.

Call me a filthy casual if you want, its probably true. It took me a very long time to grasp this game and all its mechanics. It is very different from the Eastern MMO’s I was playing before.

Paradox here brings a very interesting point of view. Are these changes being made because of asian or western feedback? Because we have different types of players that are accustomed with different mechanics.

Nah… we just need to make a sport out of punting Phlunt off the side of Rata Sum!

This is how it would work:

(1) We bind Phlunt with rope & bungee cord.
(2) Next, we tie the really long cord to a secure, strong object like a wall.
(3) Then one person gets to kick him off the side of Rata Sum!
(4) Once the bungee cord stop bouncing, we reel him back into Rata Sum!
(5) Repeat steps 3 & 4

I call this game “Punt Phlunt”.

Remember, he has to be alive for this work! Killing Phlunt would take the fun out of this!

10/10 would play everyday!

triple trouble: the power of one guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Leo Paul.1659

Leo Paul.1659

More people who just log in and expect other people to organize for them. Guess what you wanted to raid in WoW? You joined a guild and participated and people volunteered to run the raid and organize and you’d all get on a voip to coordinate. If you’re too lazy to coordinate yourself then you will follow the instructions of the people who will coordinate and do what they say or you won’t get in. Nobody is stopping you from forming your own guild and killing Triple Trouble by yourselves, only you are because you’re too lazy to learn the fight enough to coordinate with other people.

I barely care about triple trouble, but this ‘do it yourself’ stuff from people who almost assuredly are just following in is a little silly.

It’s a classic pat response, and everyone knows that it’s not only substantially more difficult and time-intensive to try to organize a guild that does that kind of thing, it also requires more than a little bit of luck to make it stick.

~~~
Again though, even though its in no way required content. If guilds are exploiting the megaserver system in order to exclude people from content, that’s a legitimate issue either on those guilds side or on Anets side.
it’s on Anet if the exclusion is actually required to complete the content, they need to rework the encounter.
It’s on the guilds if they’re forcing the servers and it’s not really required to defeat the event.
Ever since Anet introduced Guild World Events, I think Anet indirectly gave an indirect sanction towards forced instances. I’m not sure whether this is intended, but I don’t think they are exploiting if they choose to do so however questionable it might be ethically (by purposely excluding people outside their guilds). They are using their guilds resources after all. I’m still on the fence regarding timed/normal encounters though. /shrug
TTS doesn’t own open world runs, they never will. They can remove themselves from the map if they so want to, but they can’t make other people leave because they don’t follow their rules. WTF are you on? Dungeons which clearly have an owner and where kicking is a legitimate mechanic doesn’t apply here. Condescension at its finest.
I wonder… if we ever reported the leyline hub to the arcane council immediately, would we have found a way to disrupt Mordremoth’s feeding? It might be choosing the lesser evil. At least Taimi, we could monitor whereas the Arcane Council, possibly along with their less trustworthy members would’ve been free to do whatever they wanted and monopolized the hub.
And in fairness to Taimi, we did say:
I don’t like to think about what the Inquest would do in this place. This group doesn’t look like Aetherblades, but they’d be just as dangerous if they had access to Scarlet’s devices.
I’m not saying I like Taimi… As I’ve mentioned, I dislike Asura in general. It’s just that I trust the council less than the brat.
Who would want to ally themselves with a party that can’t govern itself properly and leave machinery that could do disastrous things to global transit in the hands of immature brats?.
Funny you should mention that.
…the Arcane Council seems to have a regular dosage of espionage amongst its members, such as when Councillor Haia attempted to kill off the rest of the Arcane Council.
The Arcane Council openly accepts the Inquest and their invention, even having a member of the Inquest on the Arcane Council. The Inquest is used to regulate undesired but needed projects so that members of the Arcane Council can busy themselves with their own projects. The Arcane Council also protects the Inquest against claims (truthful or not) of the Inquest stealing other krewes’ works.
Who wanted to steal Taimi’s device again when we went after her in Dry Top?
We all know the council is rotten and corrupt from asura personal story (which already happened as per LS season 2 and thus should bear consideration significantly among asura PC)
This allowed for Professor Gorr’s theory to be freely distributed, but Councillor Flax admitted that the Arcane Council had known Gorr’s theory was true all along and was stifling the information until they figured out a way to exploit it.
<Character name>: I had no idea the council was corrupt enough to hoard information that could help Tyria deal with the dragons.
Now why would I trust this particular device to the Arcane Council?
You know, after reading Manasa’s posts again, I am now convinced he is Inquest or is a member of Arcane Eye!
The info about them having had some private TS sessions with a dev outside official hours, coupled with the rumor that they are asking him to kick people who are afk out of sparkfly fen did leave a bad impression on me and I just can’t shake it off (I know that it might’ve been an isolated case, but it left a permanent stigma on my mind, sorry). But all-in-all, I think TTS is harmless and is sincerely trying to help the community. I still prefer server runs like we used to in BG against teq.
According to the moderators and developers the developers’ gaming accounts are normal accounts with no access to GM powers, so that leaves two possibilities:
1) It’s a baseless rumor spread by people bitter, for whatever reason, about TTS.
2) ANet’s lying and we have far bigger problems than TTS.
It was brought up on a discussion by one of its members in an attempt to defend him but it backfired. But I don’t see any point in detracting from the topic and shaming a dev in the process. It might’ve just simply been an oversight on the implications such actions bring. I do have respect for TTS and the rest of the large guilds that is organized solely for defeating world bosses, it’s just that I can’t bring myself to join the guild nor recommend it to my friends because of personal bias based on that.
I think it’s meant as a bluff.
Sadly, a bad bluff. As the Pact would kitten off everybody doing it.
Well if they did attend the summit because of that threat and then mordrems attacked they probably would still have given in and understood why we had to go to such lengths. It may not even reflect badly on the pact as we are manipulating taimi and her device who are unassociated, so it might be seen as an individual action and we merely used our position as a form of intimidation (not that i think it’s wise to threaten a rep of an entire race whose members form a relatively large percentage of the organization we belong to) XD
I would be happy if they just release the Black Wings from the Raiment of the Lich outfit as a separate backpiece.
TBH, I was never a big fan of the downed state to begin with. I feel like it’s a very clunky mechanic. But since it’s a feature within GW2, I think it’s better if they let new players experience it as soon as possible so they adapt to it faster. Like ripping a band aid off.
In fairness to Astral Projections, he did say he wishes he’s wrong. I think he’s just playing the devil’s advocate and explaining how Anet would justify the change and how new players could potentially benefit from it. That said, I still feel like it’s an unwarranted change; particularly since I find the personal story to be another means of leveling instead of having to do heart quests (I find them very tiresome). I also like how they are not exactly gated, since I like the idea of having control whether I want to do them now or not.
I got some great advice for everyone that thinks level 10 is the new level 1!
Right now, go and create a new character for every race, and pay attention to each intro, and every aspect of each individual races chapter 1… then after your done with that, imagine all that content removed until your level 10. Imagine the devs going into each story arc and screwing all that immersion and effort that they put in at release, and destroying that until level 10.
Imagine yourself as a new person loading in the game for the first time. You see a load screen, and bam! your in the middle of a field. No intro, no objective of doing a kitten thing until level 10.
Really? Yeah that’s what they are going to do right? Makes total sense right? Runing level 1 content as a level 10? Use some common sense people holy kittening kittens kittens on a kitten kitty kitten ya kitten kitty kat kittens!!!!!!!
….. Kitty kat kittens, i mean talk about a kitty kat seriously! KITTENS!
Holy litter that’s a lot of kittens. But I do like your take on the whole thing about them not touching chapter 1 and just arranging chapters 2 onwards.
So you don’t believe the game needed a better new player experience?
No. It’s fine the way it is.
Of course not, that’s silly. But obviously you haven’t seen the “what to do now? next PS chapter is x levels higher than me” posts over the years on the Player Helping Player board.
:/ Not sure if serious. This is hardly an argument for a revamp in personal story development.
