So they plan on nerfing the core ability of thieves? Does that mean we’re getting a new name for the profession too?
I’ve only ever seen bad play- I mean, players that have yet to understand the game and professions that they face, complain. Honestly, I run a p/d thief and I rarely die (trying not to sound like I got my head up my kitten ) but it’s really not that hard to kill a thief. Learn your opponent and stop with the QQing. In sPvP, I see people stand on the caltrops and after they die, they complain. This is a serious case of l2p. Again, learn your opponents (other professions), seek new builds, and try again.
I can’t help but feel as if the bad players are going to be rewarded (call of duty anyone? deathstreaks?). Just sayin’.
Edit: Yes, I know, Call of Duty is a horrible game but it’s true.
I doubt they’ll make a spear for land since spear is already an underwater weapon. If anything, it’ll probably be a lance and yes, definitely two-handed ax. I was so disappointed in the absence of a mighty great ax.

Hope you’re still into the game. I had the same problem you had where I couldn’t choose a profession until the beginning of February I believe, and I had the game since the 3 day headstart. It really is extremely frustrating. For me, I went to pvp first and stayed there until rank 40, which is a really far way into pvp but it really helped me choose what class. At the beginning, I told myself I would only choose the soldier classes (guardians and warriors) and never even bother with the others, which really limited my options and gated me from being able to see the potential of the other classes. In the end, I ended up with the thief, a class who I found was absolutely boring and dull but turns out, this class is amazing and despite the hate from certain people out there, I managed to recently get it to level 80.
Has anyone checked this out? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gargoyle I don’t know if the name is just for the sake of the event or what. I don’t know much about the gargoyles in guild wars 1 since I haven’t played the game but I just wanted to point this out. Though, something tells me this is completely unrelated, but again I was just pointing this out. :l
I just finished this mission/quest/part of personal story/whatever you want to call it, with a level 10 thief. However, it was extremely frustrating without the use of caltrops and alot of conidition based attacks. I tried it with s/p but that didn’t work too well. Blinding power uses up too much initiative and after that, there wouldn’t be any initiative left to use any skills. Nevertheless, there was a nice trick I found, with the use of the column inside the tavern that has two tables around it. I ran in circle spamming one and use my caltrops for the cripple and bleed, and while behind the column, Doc Howler’s attacks were obstructed. In addition, this also took me out of the immersion in the game due to the frustration (beat it on my 4th try).
I’ve mostly played pvp and I’ve gotten quite good at my thief after playing 600 games with it, so I knew what build to follow. If I had tried d/d or p/d with condition gear, I’m sure I would’ve had it on my try. Anyways, it really sucked that I had to switch weapons just to beat this.
Just sharing some experiences with my warrior which I’ve mainly been playing in pvp with. I run the infamous hundred blades/frenzy/bulls charge build (don’t really know the name of the original build).
For thieves, if they’re backstab build, I usually pop my stability as soon as they hit the steal and cloak and dagger. After that, they’re pretty much dead tbh unless they port out. I drop most thieves fairly quick and they’re no real threat unless my stability is down, because after their backstab, they usually spam heartseeker, but even so, I can take quite a chunk of their health.
I usually don’t have much trouble with other warriors, guardians, mesmers, or engineers but that’s because I haven’t exactly sat down with another and 1 v 1. I won’t go into each profession specifically, however, elementalists, necromancers, rangers, and guardians can cause quite a predicament. But really, with all the might you get from your greatsword (if you’re running the trait), it really isn’t much of a problem. Warriors are one of the strongest profession in game, IF you know how to play it. It really does come down to the player.
BTW, these are my opinions, and yes, this build is fairly “nooby” but it’s so easy to avoid the entire combo so….

I made a thief as my main. I’m only 8 levels in but jeez, it’s so fun running around with dual daggers and dual pistols. I’ve seen some pvp videos where a thief can take over half an opponent’s health with just one hit (while buffed up of course).
Thanks for the replies. This is my first game that I’ve decided to play the opposite sex, since the other MMOs I played were gender locked, so it felt awkward rolling a female alt.
Does anyone else play a character that is the opposite sex? Personally, I never liked how the male Asura or Norn looked so I ended up rolling female alts. Is that weird? I understand some people may use the excuse “if i’m going to play a game for x amount of hours staring at a butt, i might as well look at a nice looking one”, or something of the sort. Additionally, I understand that it’s not that big of a deal, but I am curious as to how many people do this. I do this just for aesthetic purposes and not to acquire free items and such. So, anyone?………………………….guys?…………
