I keep hearing the argument " it doesnt fit the class blah blah blah" , then please, tell me how you can imagine Gandalf running at the orks with two daggers, yet we all accept it, because Anet had it there from the beginning.

Tell me how a mage that works with mirages and lies can use a pistol to shoot magical beans, how does that “fit” the character?

How a knight in shinning armor has blue fire and bats a scepter like a magic wand and shoots little blue balls that hit hard?

see my point? MAGIC, this game doesnt need to “fit”, specially elementalist who are the MOST MAGICAL CLASS IN THE GAME, they can do whatever they want, we already wield a [bad] ultimate which is a RANGED GREATSWORD, dont tell me ranged GS doesnt fit ele………

also, who cares so many classes already have GS, for all I care everyone should be able to use whatever the heck they want, without having to deal with people who want to feel unique. I love eles, I love GS and staves, why cant I have it all, specially since the only counterargument is; “but i wanna feel special!!!!”

Then what becomes of the “Masters of Weaponry”? https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/warrior/
Warrior with a scepter? how does that even work? and focus? how about a staff?
The only counter argument being a feeling of individuality? While I understand that everyone is special, just like everyone else, that’s not exactly relevant. Yes, maybe some classes will get new weapons like an elementalist with a torch or something along those lines, I don’t see how this could follow through well. Plus the balancing issues, the glorious balancing issues.

But heck, what do I know. If Anet does go through and want to get creative, I don’t mind.

thanks for the badges of honor!

I agree with you however, I honestly can’t think of any weapon diversity in underwater combat because there really isn’t any other than a spear, harpoon, and trident unless Arenanet gets creative and make up something like floating magical orbs that’s like a focus but takes up space like a 2h weapon? Idk.

A revamp to underwater combat would be awesome and also adding exclusive underwater skills, for example: a skill for mesmer that bends and blurrs the water around the user, causing confusion for those who enters the area.

Just random ideas, that’s all. But I don’t think there will be any MAJOR underwater content until we get an expansion on the hinted “DSD”.

Lags just a players fault for running at high settings on a comp that can’t handle it

Running i5-3570k 4.4OC with GTX660 OC @ high settings. During close node fights with nade explosions my fps drops to 25-30fps while normally in other scenarios it would be getting 60+.

Can’t imagine those poor souls running on lesser machines. There is just no in-game setting or option to tone down particle effects.

Not entirely user or player fault. If the best consumer machine out there can’t handle WvW at steady 60fps, I would think its also something to do with the devs.

hmmm. I’m running i5-3570k stock with gtx 660 ti at high settings and it doesn’t drop that low with close nade fights. ( I run engi so nade “spamming” is nothing new). Though I’m not a complete professional when it comes to computer builds and don’t know the exact difference between a regular 660 and a ti. Oh and this is in sPvP so I assume you must mean WvW?

Anyways, legendary spear shark animation for underwater combat ftw! (yes I’m the few who enjoy, mildy, the underwater combat)

I like how the OP blames his teammates as the player with the lowest score in the game, with a whole one capture and 0’s across the board.

Seriously? When will people realize that rank is completely insignificant and has nothing to do with matchmaking? Since when does ones motivation to grind hotjoins become indicative of ones skill level? Are people just really THAT ignorant to how glicko/ELO ranking works?

Lulz @ our rank? Lulz @ your contribution.

Rank could equal the amount of time played in PvP. Being at a high rank is good because people will look at you and think “oh hey, he must have spent a lot of time in PvP so he probably knows how to play well”. Although, that’s not always true. But I understand where you’re coming from, it shouldn’t dictate your skill level at all.

Or pull out a hammer and smash people to death you can use a ton of gear just stop being bad and you will be fine.

This is the type of PvE player Anet usually listens to unfortunately.

Plus, it could easily get obstructed, not just the burst ability but the rest of the skills. While taking a few break between that time period and using a glory booster btw. This is impossible now that I finally found a life lol jk. I just don’t have the patience to sit through each games anymore with my thief rushing to tag downed players. I gave up on trying to get nice 1 v 2s because it just wouldn’t count for kitten, no extra glory or nothin so.

Best way is to play against newbie players and have a good “zerg” going. It really help in the glory farming sometimes.

Are you happy with sPVP ?

I’m about done with my thief, which I played a lot of it while getting through 40+ ranks. I can play other classes, it’s just I prefer my thief so much more and with the constant nerfs, it’s kinda hard to keep playing it. Yeah sPvP is getting pretty boring. Once you play enough of it, you can see the conspicuous trend in class builds. Rarely will you ever see something different, for example, for the first time I saw a scepter/focus elementalist in sPvP yesterday.

  • Warriors most likely roll gs with something else or go burst hammer or full tank.
  • Guardians are often greatsword built with stacking might or going full burst.
  • Engineers are starting to become more common and a lot of them using condition builds, not a lot of 100 nades anymore.
  • Elementalists are typically d/d burst or semi-burst with a little more survivability or s/d burst along with the bunkers.
  • Necromancers are most often condition built although there has been a lot of zerkers not so recently.
  • Mesmers are usually burst, rolling gs/staff + s/x(usually focus or pistol). Sometimes you’ll see confusion stacking builds.
  • Thieves – backstab ofc. d/d or d/p
  • Rangers – well there’s really not too many good rangers in hot joins. A lot of trap built rangers along with a few survivability built rangers. Seldom do you see rangers that are extremely good.

I agree with the balancing and more modes. For the addition of pvp modes, I guess it just takes time, I don’t mind playing conquest for now.

Now for the balancing part, I’m pretty sure it’s not too easy for devs to properly fix it because of a few reasons. Players often complain way too many times for their own mistakes in not knowing how to play so they come to the forums with pure raging fury putting constant hate posts and eventually the devs will just listen and nerf the kitten off of a certain class. I understand the backstab thieves at the beginning of the game was quite an “OP” damage dealer (OP in quotes because it has been thrown around way too many times without proper knowledge of how to utilize that term) but they fixed the damage somewhat, great, I guess. Anyways, look at the engineers, rangers, or maybe the necromancer’s trait lines. Not the best state in the game.

I’m not saying the classes are inferior and underpowered at all, rather they took quite a few hits from nerf bombs. I’m also not saying that balancing will never be accomplished in this game but just there’s so much stuff going on, what with the QQers or just bad states of some of the classes.

I love both PvE and PvP and know how you feel to be disappointed in pvp. You could just try your best to deal with it for the moment and maybe figure out your class to the best of your ability. Not saying that you’re not good with your class or anything such.

P.S. please don’t flame me for not knowing my stuff.

Difference between thief vs zerg and elementalists vs zerg is that elementalist has perma-vigor when running the right traits, constant mobility, and more buttons to press which imo does not justify for difficulty at all. While thieves on the other hand has to rely on stealth because when running shadow’s embrace, it serves as our most efficient condition removal. If not, they rely on heal and shadowstepping to remove the bleeds and such, which is not efficient at all.

@ the video, a lot of players that needs to learn to play, that’s all. Not to offend the elementalist’s skills, but those players were horrible. Elementalists are not OP, there’s just a lot of bad players now stop with the QQ-ing people.

We can stealth 90% of the time because you, not pointing anyone out but just to be general, let us. Now please, for god’s sake people, stop calling everything OP. thinking in mind “what am I doing? it’s like talking to a brick wall, they’ll just keep QQ-ing.”

The only X/D that still feel “fluid” is p/d since it doesnt have auto attack chain. 100 % bleed time helps a bit to fight increased reveal to keep bleeds up. So imo now there is left only 2 viable builds for pvp ( not awkward, noone likes playing awkward builds ) – p/d condi ( allthough VERY LOW dps and not rly viable in spvp becouse of low bleed timer w/o food) or full glass d/d 25/30/0/0/15… gg anet.

lol are you serious? Have you actually played p/d before the nerf for a good bit? because it is awkward as hell for me now with the extra second on reveal. I use to be able to play aggressively with p/d but now I’m tripping on a lot of CnD. VERY LOW? not really, the dps can be decently high once you stack some bleeds. Builds are still viable, just has less damage in the long run now. You can use foods in sPvP too? hmm, odd.

And the chain was this: CnD>Sneak Attack>2 auto. Rinse, repeat, also throw some utilities in there as well, like caltrops. Now: it’s CnD>Sneak Attack>3 auto. That extra auto provides quite a window to get CC-ed.

Yes i did play p/d before, and i did try it now. With all the range and allmost perma dodging if build right those 3-4 autos out of stealth isnt such a huge deal. Never said that u CAN use foods in spvp. Meele/D builds aint broken, but as it was mentioned … gameplay aint fluid anymore…

I thought the food part was implied. Built right? What do you mean, because I can get 3.2k+ armor yet have low hp and still die as quickly as having 2.2k armor with high hp. I’m talking about sPvP, and in sPvP, if you’re playing against good players, it doesn’t mater how many dodges you take because you’re probably going to miss quite a few CnD. Again, against good players. Either that, or even if you get a CnD to do your rotation, they’ll put a lot of pressure on you, making you pop all your cool downs and eventually leave the fight. That’s from personal experience though since I ran into a few players that knew how to deal with thieves. But most of those were 1 v X and it depends on what class you’re up against too.

Now: it’s C&D,Sneak Attack,3 auto. That extra auto provides quite a window to get CC-ed.

It’s much worse than simply waiting 1 more auto. It’s closer to an extra 1.5 autos.
And that is very difficult to time. If you want to ensure it won’t fail, you have to not only wait for a third auto, but a 4th.

And that turns out to be a significant DPS loss.

I tested it out and yeah, it’s about a little over 3 auto before you can CnD. If you hit CnD DIRECTLY after the 3rd, you just wasted 6 good initiatives.

Who knew a single second added to reveal could alter so much yet at the same time so little. The same builds are still put into play, just takes longer to kill and execute combos. It screwed the flow of combat and the long term damage decreased, yet you still see thieves go in and out of stealth. This nerf does not sit right with me.

For the guy above, Arganthium, yes we didn’t get a damage nerf to our skills, but that extra second of revealed screws up CnD dependent builds like p/d or back stabs which led to the decreased amount of damage you could possibly do before your opponent pops their heal. We can now do one less back stab and one less sneak attack. Yeah it may seem like not that big of a deal but for thief builds that relies on attacking from stealth and staying in fights longer will have a harder time playing aggressively and dealing damage.

BTW: I don’t mean back stab as in the whole mug-back-stab-hope-to-kill-opponent-in-one-combo build, I’m talking about the more defensively built back stab.

“not fluid”, “broken”, “i have to completely relearn how to play the thief” – oh wow, now we have to wait for 2 more hits in auto attack. this is so bad, this is so wrong, this is so unplayable. the increased duration of 1s of the revealed buff is just too much.
/sarcasm

I’m just gonna assume you don’t play a thief at all. Ignorance at its finest. Anyways, yeah, it isn’t unplayable, but that’s not the point. The point is how combat chains and combos flow and the flow is kittened due to an extra second. After playing a thief for so long, you eventually get used to 3 seconds. So with that extra second, for example, I waste 6 initiatives on CnD because of the habit, or I mean, tendency to use CnD after 3 seconds. For the guy who said you’d have to relearn the class, it’s partially true. I gave up on my p/d build because I lose an extra 6 stack of bleeds in dps and wasted alot of time experimenting like I did when I first started PvP. The whole backstab build and glass cannons isn’t how I’d like to play, I’d rather be able to stay in a fight and not have to back out after popping my cool downs on one person for the initial burst.

maybe you are the ignorant one. i have 2 thieves. one with world completion and another one will hit 80 soon, too. thieves arent strong or good in pve, thats granted. but they are just (too) strong in wvw, spvp its okay but just because you cant conquer a point with stealth.

they are far from unplayable or broken. the +1s revealed is a minor stealth nerf.

You misunderstood. I said that I assumed you don’t play a thief, and that itself, the comment, not you, is ignorance at its finest. Why would I call you ignorant out of the blue? I’m not as low to assume how people are based on their comments. Conquer a point with stealth? I find myself in multiple 1 v X whenever I go for a point since I usually attack side points and leave the center to my team whether they go for it or not. I’ve win multiple 1 v X and depending on the players, especially good players, I have a hell of a time taking them down. I know when to quit and leave the fight so I rarely die. Plus, you can’t conquer a point while in stealth, just so you know, if you meant it in a literal way. Sure, they may seem far from broken or unplayable to you, but you already implied that in your sarcasm. Builds are still viable, however, the damage they do now is not as great as it used to be.

“not fluid”, “broken”, “i have to completely relearn how to play the thief” – oh wow, now we have to wait for 2 more hits in auto attack. this is so bad, this is so wrong, this is so unplayable. the increased duration of 1s of the revealed buff is just too much.

"Revealed" Nerf is also a damage nerf.

I recently went into PvP to see how I did against 1 v 2s. Usually, I can handle that pressure since I know that I can get out of the situation when things get hairy. With the buff, everything felt so out of place and combos felt completely wrong. I run p/d and I noticed that I can’t keep that constant pressure on opponents as well as I did before. Since I got used to 3 seconds revealed, I ended up blowing a lot of initiatives whenever I tried CnD and even caltrops couldn’t help me keep the bleed stacks up.

As for PvE…… well, thieves weren’t as desired for dungeon runs for dps before, and now… :l

For all the people who QQ-ed about thieves being OP, why don’t you take the time to play the thief and get to know the kitten class before you kitten.

A Few Quick Tips

So recently, well, not so recently, I’ve noticed a lot of players in PvP complain about thieves and their constant stealth so I decided to just throw some tips out there. This is in the thief section because it could also appeal to a thief that’s having trouble fighting their own class.

Before I start, I’d like to point out the fact that I understand there’re different builds out there for each class and you may not have the opportunity to avoid it. This is just some basic information that new pvpers may not know. This is not a full guide on how to fight thieves, but a guide to avoid their stealth and a few pointers here and there.

So, CnD can be avoided by multiple ways such as blind, getting knocked back/down, feared, dazed, evaded, or just being at a good distance. Thieves can use CnD on objects such as the crates in Battle of Kyhlo, pets, minions, and other players. Each CnD costs 6 initiatives and thieves typically have 12 initiatives, 15 with 15 points into the trickery trait line. Look into the skills of your class along with it’s traits. Some traits will allow you to, for example, daze on certain actions, such as the trait “Sleight of Hand”. Make sure you save your dazes, fears, etc. when there is a good opportunity like when they heal up or go in for that cloak and check whether or not you are blinded when you decide to pop those skills.

DON’T STAND ON CALTROPS (the big red circle on the ground that doesn’t seem to go away), it stacks a horrendously long cripple along with a crap load of bleeds. And if you are standing on them, make sure you have condition removal skills such as the Well of Power if you’re a necromancer, Null Field if you’re a mesmer, etc.

Thieves are usually p/d, d/d, or d/p and depending on their build, they can be quite a handful to deal with. For d/p, they use more initiative than p/d or d/d and are often present in a fight a little longer. They use the combo “Black Powder” and “Heartseeker” to get their stealth. In the process of doing so, they waste about 9 initiatives which gives you a nice long window to damage them down. If the thief is p/d, make sure you know when to keep distance because they may run straight for you or a pet to get their cloak. I know necromancer minions have horrible AIs but it doesn’t mean you still can’t fear or blind with your shade.

Here is the important part however: make sure you know your class well along with it’s utilities. If you don’t, then you’re bound to lose even if it was a different class, unless your opponent is horrible, so make sure you know how to play. Play with the traits, go look at new builds, experiment a little bit, or work out some new combos. I apologize for making this seem like just a big wall of text with some spaces in between, I’m not good at making organized guides. I hope this helps anyone even if it is in the slightest bit. Yes, this picture of my thief bowing is completely necessary.
