I agree with the aesthetics/performance ratio. GW2 runs really well now for what it looks like. One thing i really do want models wise is more “ugly/gritty” looking character models/faces. Its all to dollish imo in GW2 and lacks character due to that in some cases.
Wildstar has its own unique things it does really well. Dungeon mechanics for example are way more advanced and enjoyable than anything the anet team will ever produce in that area.

Question as above, lately didn’t hear much from the devs in regards to what they are working on atm.
Its a bit quiet due to the chinese release of the game. I expect some news about a month after that release.
Seems to be related to server load during peak hours in eu.
This would be fine and all if the majority of new players are polite and humble. But sadly enough thats a rarity aswell.
Everyone is an expert and asking something (nicely) often leads to getting flamed or we.

The last I played this game was around May last year, where I played some PvP right out of the gate, much like I spent most of my GW1 career doing.
Upon going into PvP now, everything is changed with scarce a tutorial, other than to look at the PvP Builder at the top of my UI now.
I now have to purchase different weapons I want to use, what if I don’t have any money? Also, are they weaker than everyone else’s weapon? The same goes for armour.
Why do I have to PvE to unlock traits now? I’m PvPing at this low of a level because I don’t want to PvE. Needing to PvE to get the most out of PvP, when there was none of that in GW1 sort of kills it for me.
- Everything you need is accesed via that pvpbuild button.
- You can use the basic weapons you obtain in your introduction quest. After you get rewards via the rewardtrack after pretty much every game you play (this includes all tuypes of weapons armour etc).
- No these weapons arent weaker…you can purchase weapons for a few copper and have acces to something that hits just as hard as a legendary (in pvp).
- You dont have to PvE. You can get everything you want from PvP, skillpoints, money everything. The new traits can be bought from one of the class vendors in the pvplocker area for some skillpoints and money.
- Mind that you have acces to all standard traits…..and the new ones arent superior to the old ones. They are an alternative.

Yes, this leaderboard system is poor because of (extreme) decay. If there was a normal ladder, people could stay at, let’s say, 2k rating (starting at 1k, max 3k) even though they don’t play regularly. Now, you have to keep playing frequently to be visible at top 1000 – easy come, easy go.
Pro players would hover at 2,5k, and noobs around 1,5k. Of course, this still means nothing as long as population is low, but I think ladder system would be more appealing to people, because their entire progress wouldn’t be wiped like rain from windscreen after a couple of days.
As someone who played wow at 2.5k+ on multiple classes in the arena i have to disagree with you.
Ratingdecay is a must since it incentivizes top tier players to keep playing. In wow we had people sitting on their rating for months. So you had to sync queue with the limited number of teams that had enough MMR or else you’d be facing plus 0 or plus 1 teams all night with 10+ minute queuetimes for every match.
I do think the decay in GW2 is to fast tho. Id like to see decay that gradually increases over time and change the interval to like 2 times per week.
Dont think you can cap while in invis. You sure he wasnt out of your LoS?
If its a draw? Add some “overtime” points; extend it to 600 for example.
Dont pick warrior ranger guardian or necro. Those are the dumbed down/shallow classes that will bore you relatively fast.
Every class is decent enough for soloing. My advice is to go with something with a bit more depth like elementalist or engineer.
also, the main point of this topic is to show that, warriors, are not overpowered as many warrior haters blindly claim to be. all those warrior haters are just full of kitten, only kept on spreading false information in these forums.
Deimos we all know you are a smart guy that acts as if he is stupid to troll a bit :P But ill bite:
If you think that screenshot is proof than you might aswell say that nothing is or has ever been OP…in any game.
Below average teams will always lose from top tier teams. The skill and experience level is just to far apart to draw any conclusions.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
I haven’t really tried out this build in a tPvP setting, but I generally don’t see it being used to handle 1v1s or such. It’s always struck me as a “team build” in that in maximizes its potential when used with the team. I guess I’d really have to try it out for awhile to get a good feel for it.
I played the build at and vs the top of the ladder in tpvp during the last few days. Its actually really good for 1v1’s or even 1v2s. The combination of great sustain, the wombo combos and the condi pressure makes it a really difficult thing for most professions. to deal with.
Its great to push ppl off points aswell. due to knockbacks you have at your disposal. So youre basicly a decap engi with the abbilitie to kill ppl really fast aswell.
To the OP: You need to work the builds strengths. Its a hybrid so it doesnt suffice to lob grenades on points, a pure condi build would be better in that case. Or it will never be as good as a pure power build in terms of direct damage. Its dificult to deal with for people since you can condi ppl up and “stunnlock” them while the condis are ticking away.
Its that combination that gives prety much everyone trouble.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
Just mix it up with other games like im doing. But make sure those games are different, even if theyre MMOs.
Still doesn’t explain how these warriors can be so much worse than average, when we can read on a daily basis how warriors are faceroll.
So is warrior suddenly the hardest class to master and only when mastered becomes terribly overpowered? Or is the class not overpowered? Or do classes not matter at all really, cause it’s more important as to what class you send to deal with another and people need to shut up about classes being overpowered?
Is it really that hard to understand?
You can make warriors hit twice as hard and have twice as much health……if you let the 5 year old from next door play it, he would still get dominated by top players.
If you match a guy like Casualty with his 2000+ teamq games played, 75% winratio and top 10 spot with guys that have less than 10 games played and a 20-25% winratio you get an unfair matchup….no matter what classes they play.
Ill probs get some hate fot his but:
- No classstacking.
Here’s the problem. Why is it flawed to say “warriors are not OP because we had three and lost anyway”, but not flawed to say “warriors are OP because some team had two and won a tournament”?
What’s the difference in the logic?
Since there is an obvious difference in skill and experience between your team and theirs.
The teams in the later rounds of that tournament can all be considered top tier, so the skill and experience level is relatively equal.
This has nothing to do with the difference in experience between both teams…nahhh
Its not like the other team has multiple former top 10 players (with 1000’s of games played) while they dont have a single person with decent high end experience.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
There we have it friends; definite proof that warrior isnt OP.
Pushing far point makes sense if your team is competent enough.
I seriously hate people who get two nodes and then just sit there waiting for the whole enemy team of 5 to come to contest it again.
Moving the fight on their home point when you have a bunker is way better than having the fight on your nodes and risk a decap.
A single, competent person is enough to watch two nodes and if the team is competent enough, you can easily count the enemies and estimate the respawn timer to know when the enemy is going to push your close point.
It differs per match. A lot of players dont have the awareness, build or skilllevel to be able to disengage at far when its needed either. In a lot of matches ive seen situations like this:
- Initial teamfight is won quite easily
- 3 or 4 push far and end up wiping at far vs pretty much their entire team (+flood of extra resses since its near the opposing teams resspoint).
- Match snowballs in the other teams favour.
Without the sustain of a good bunker (as you mentioned) and maybe a hambow I wouldnt risk to much to be honest.

Well, most of the people don’t go into hotjoin to win, but to screw around/test builds/go kitten.
Sitting on empty points with 3 doesnt sound like screwing around or testing builds imo.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
If you have a gamemode where literally all new players make the same mistakes, something is lacking. There are two possible reasons for this:
1] The game doesnt explain itself well enough (in the form of a tutorial for example).
2] It’s too difficult for the average MMO player to understand.
An obvious example is capping homepoints with almost the entire team. An example like this doesnt happen occasionally sadly enough. Its literally every single new player that does it. Enter a hotjoin and youll see what i mean … and it doesnt limit itself to hotjoins either these days.
If you had to design a tutorial (preferably with limited resources), how would you do it?
- What do you want as hot topics for the tutorial?
- How would you make sure that everyone that does it or watches it w/e knows wtf is going on afterwards?
PVP in MMO’s are a joke. You can’t do any damage to the enemies, you use all your skills and their health bar doesn’t move. Same way in every MMO. People who say they love PVP are just like the people offline who say they love sports – they all hate it but say they love it to impress each other.
- Trust me if i hit you your healthbar will move….quite fast aswell.
- I dont need to impress other ppl. I play what i enjoy playing and thats PvP in this game.
- I actually do like sports. Played basketball for 10+ years and still enjoy watching it a lot. Not sure why anyone would tell someone that they like something while they dont. Maybe if youre young and insecure. But grown men or women dont need to act like that.

No engis in the US and EU finals. This is conclusive proof that engis need massive buffs!
They should alter the rules a bit (for these tournaments at least):
- No class stacking
- Limit number of “bunker amulettes” to two per team.
Then why do people brag about score at end of game so often?
Its usually only new or really bad players who brag about it.
You can have 1 guy defending his homenode vs 2-3 all game ….while the rest of the team is farming the other 2 ppl with 4.
That single guy might end up with a score of 10….yet he still carried his teammates that have scores that might be 300+ even.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
absolutely this I am prettycertain as I have done some test on two different accounts and been asking people what rank they are on the lb. The games in the top 1000 are so much better. They are by no means perfect but its a lot better.
It was sarcasm from my side.
Seeing how collero is former rank 1 and has the most soloq games played in europe. Why would you tell him “dont worry dude it will get better once you enter the top 1000”?
(edited by Locuz.2651)
Best way to avoid newbies is to get to top 1000.
Yes Collero, listen to this guy. It will get better once you get in to the top 1000
.
You have been playing 5k hours and don’t have 4 friends on your list to play with?
I don’t understand OP
Not sure what a bad matchmaking system has to do with playing another format (that has equally bad matchmaking).
you are sure that you know what to do?
if you are not asked to teach, then do not do it. It is annoying
While the OP makes plenty of mistakes himself (as ive experienced in games with and against him) he is still a player with experience at the top of the ladder. Former rank 1 and most soloq games of any player in europe.
It would be smart for a new player to listen to a guy like him.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
The trick is to play at night I think. I dont get poor match making during night times. If I log in the morning then its full of bearbows and signet warriors.
I have the direct opposite experience. During off hours i end up in games that seem to have no matchmaking at all; with players that range from low % to top 50.
Ranger was my first main. It was so boring that it literally made me quit the game and go back to wow for a couple of months. Its so much worse than hunter in wow tbh.
I rerolled engineer when i came back and played 2500 hours since. A lot more depth and diversity.
Plus there’s nothing better than killing a banner warrior on deeps guard. Sounds like the guy was rocking it.
Unless the banner warrior is condi. But those don’t exist on EU.
Whats the point of trying to fight a bunker who is afking on a fully capped point? He was trying to kill that guy for 3 minutes at least…and at the end he walked away lol.
The guys who are responsible for the systems have no clue how to solve this. So its either deal with the frustration or stop GW2 like i am if it keeps going like this
The game isnt that great anyway. Migth aswell start playing wow again. Better system designers at Blizzard.
Its the weekend aswell which makes it worse even. Ppl deep in the percentages vs ppl in the top 20. Good job Anet!
Its a relatively minor issue so ppl tend to let it be. But why is that join/enter match pop up so incredibly intrusive? Why is it that if you click wait, it pops up again 2 seconds later? Its really annoying since its right on top of your character aswell. And if youre in the middle of a duel (that you can easily finish before the match starts) youre basicly forced to click wait every 2 seconds.
Wouldnt it be better to create a nice enter now popup icon that moves to the right side of your screen after you clicked wait once. Maybe add a nice little timer under it showing the time untill the match starts.
And ooh ye, add a sound to the initial pop up so ppl can hear when it pops in case they’re afk for a second.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
There are a few issues i have when playing this build.
- Less healing overall than a cookie cutter condi engi due the lack of backpack regenerator.
- Relatively weak vs condi bombs due to the lack of blocks or CC chains and that extra healing from backpack regen.
- Lack of real CC/burst chains. So if people dispell your rifle 2 a big part of your damage is gone.
- The most important one imo: no swiftness or + speed traits so youre not really suited to move between points or able to kite as well when.
I created an alternative that works really well for me so far. I wanted to create something with a bit more healing, control and defensive abbilities without sacrificing the tankiness of the build you posted.
This is what ive come up with:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlUUp2qlcxmKseRCdBNqpE6VklXAqF8xAcTA-TJBHwAMLDY4CAA4BA0Z/BA
Only played it for a few hours, but its seems quite beastly so far.
- Absurd control with accelerant packed turrets, toolkit magnet pull and the rifle ofc. You can wombocombo anyone from 100% to 0 if they have no stunnbreaker ready (incl soldiers rune warriors)..
- Perma swiftness due to speedykits, + Box of nails and the block from toolkit give you the necesarry kiting an defensive tools.
- The combination of Valk amu and intel sigil gives you a high non RNG crit rate and crits that are on par with zerker amu crits due to the ferocity. While maintaining sustain due to the toughness and extra healingpower.

But were all those low lvl players really bad? I am ranked 294 and got paired up with quite a few low lvl players but most seem to do alright in my matches(not all).
I actually had a chat with one of the very few good new players ive met.
He was good mechanically but really bad with his rotations. The cool thing was that he was humble and nice.
The majority of new players are really bad tho. I cant think of a single guy (besides that guy) in the 0-20 pvprank range that is able to compete at top 100 level. Anet thinks differently about that judging by the guys ive met in some games.
Leaderboard rank != MMR, it’s pretty obvious you can be in the top 100 leaderboard but the bottom percentile MMR.
Not really no.
You can have top MMR and be in the percentages (due to decay). The other way around is impossible. You can only get to the top with top MMR.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
We want to see MMR, not rank, not leaderboard rating. We have never? Been able to see peoples MMR inside the game, let alone our own.
Problem is that the MMR itself is broken. Some of the worst players on the ladder get catapulted in to the top 100 after a few lucky wins.
Yesterday for example i was playing with and vs a pvp rank 16 warrior named Janhus. It was an obvious beginner that played sword shield….and never switched to other weaponsets. He was squishy as hell but did no damage either. I could literally stand next to him and /dance and i wouldnt die.
He had no idea either where to go to. He just ran to whatever fight he saw and died non stop pretty much including 1v1 vs bosses., non stop to far where he kept dying etc etc.
I think he had 10 points total in 3 games played. It was basicly 4v5 for every team he was in.
The comical part is… that guy was top 25 in Europe after 10-20 games played* (dropped in to percentages ofc after last night). So id like to thank Anet on behalf of Janhus for this horrible MMR system.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
Yup. Had one who jumped and ran around in circles in spawn untill the game was as good as over.
Got 3 rings. so far. Exactly the items i dont need anymore. (yes im needy)
Does anyone feel this adds value to a match?
I personally don’t.
It is counterproductive actually. 99% of all new players cap points with 2-3 or chase single thieves around the map with 3 players untill he is dead. Simply because they only care about personal score.
Its because the system “teaches” them to act like this.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
Youll play with guys that are top 20 after 15-20 games played. Guys that barely know how to move their character around. Youll see.
In all honesty. GW2s MMR system is the worst thing ive ever seen in any competetive online game.
In fact i challenge anyone to find a mainstream game that has worse matchmaking systems.
In what online game can you play ladder games and fight top 3 ppl within 2-3 games?
Think about it like this; who would you rather have in your team.
- Pvprank 10, leaderboard rank 50.
- Pvprank 80, leaderboard rank 500.
I would personally go for the later in 99% of the cases, unless the first is an alt account.. Its very likely that the first one is only there due to sheer luck (+ the crappy MMR system) and he most certainly lacks experience in important areas like rotating.
(edited by Locuz.2651)
You sure rolling another character isnt an option? Warrior and guardian are imo two of the most boring and simple classes in the game.
I would highly recommend switching to something like elementalist or engineer. Experiment with builds on these and see how diverse and fun professions in GW2 can be.
Good question.
Replace hotjoins with unranked queue.
I want to play right now or as quickly as possible, it’s already annoying that once a game becomes available you have to wait for the match to start, then wait again for the gates to open.
If currently it takes me longer than a minute to get a match I just click on hot join instead.
Changes to matchmaking will be close to unnoticable for people like you who are in the percentages. There are a lot more lower rated than higher rated people so its a lot harder to start a proper match in the top 500.
Since the system prioritizes a short queuetime over a good matchup youll see “top 500 matchups” with 3-4 top 100-200 players and 1 or 2 percentage players. Enormous differences like this create a very toxic atmosphere.
I think most higher rated ppl would prefer to wait a bit longer for a good matchup. Instead of getting close to instant pop and getting matched with ppl who are as good as random hotjoin players.
Look at the ladder/MMR system in wow for example. Higher rated ppl have to wait untill a proper team is found by the system. Only after like 10 minutes the system starts matching you with ppl far from your own MMR. So if your queuetimes are that long you know there is no other team available at that moment at your MMR.
