New player and Guardian

in Players Helping Players

Lodius.5392

I have mained a Guardian for around 1000 hours of play. So I have a little experience in the matter :-).

Note 1… Major! Despite what people will tell you… Zerker gear on a Guardian is ONLY for elitest dungeon running. For leveling go with Cleric gear (old school build to level) Power/Toughness/Healing Power.

This is especially true if you are in groups that expect you to be “tanky” but still want you to be buffing them and adding a slight addition to heals. (Healing Power is not the best stat on paper… but will make a huge difference).

1) look back over all the zones to ensure 100%… I know Plains of Ashford and Caeldon forest had 2 & 1 hearts reset (respectively).

2) Go to Bloodtide Coast and reenter the Chantry of Secrets. I had to do this for my map completion to 100%. It is a known bug.

However, if swiftness is already on the person then Temporal Curtain will not add to the total secs remaining (as do almost all other skills by professions in the game).

Bugs happen in every. single. Game. Every one. You cannot test for live environment. Some bugs are easy fixes, some are harder. Some bugs take top priority and some bugs (like faulty sound bites) have very low priority.

Name me a game that has no bugs and I will smack a kitten (gently, more like a pet).

Trading Post - Worse than before

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lodius.5392

So…. the new trading post sucks!

It is faster to process the transactions, but I still get the “You have posted to many sell orders in a small amount of time. Please try again later” or something like that.

I have to click the item I want to sale, choose to sale it now instead of list it, move the slider bar, click sale now. So much slower now than before.

It’s cool to have added searchability features. However, how the heck is this a “faster” trading post that we were promised?

From experience, I can say that I see bugs in this game all the time.

-Floating mobs
-Falling sounds when I’m clearly not falling
-I jumped off the side of a tower in WvW and got hung mid air in a fall loop.
-lag now since Feature Patch
-Stuck in walls/etc.
-COE 15s crystal form
-etc.

I’ve reported bugs… even posted bugs to the forums… nothing ever happens.

but holy heck… if someone can’t figure out how to use their elite skill by level 30 then #%$ let’s nerf that real quick!

Exactly… I’d rather pay $15 a month and get a game where I feel like the creators care about me and my experience.

The typical player will not either. If this is the market ANET is chasing then they need a new marketing group.

ANET: Veterans < New Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lodius.5392

So I kept up with the release of upcoming features on a daily basis. Every day, I would read the new post ANET had for 3 weeks straight. I would then go see what the community thought about this in the forums.

During that time, they revealed the New Player System. This Feature Patch brought so much for the new players and I would read ANET employees responses that “Just wait and see what we have in store for veterans” or “We cannot reveal to much but just wait and see.”

Dear ANET, I’m still waiting. I feel like these promises fell incredibly short. I threw in $40 during the 2 Year Anniversary Sale. (thrown in more in the past). However, now I find myself lacking the want to even play this game. Through lag, broken aspects of dungeons, classes, etc., unnecessary nerfs, etc.

To sum up what I am saying… Veterans have made this game what it is today. Veterans have bought gems on gems to have a little perk or extra character along the way. This feature patch clearly shows that the system is more designed to be a “bait and switch” for the new players who bought the game, lets treat them extra special. However, if they play the game for any length of time then we figure we aren’t making any money off of them (as the casual player doesn’t buy gems).

Veterans, just have to take it.

Lodius.5392

1.Trading Post – This clearly was thought out to only use for people who sale 1-2 things at a time. After running a couple dungeons or farming events in Cursed Shore for a little… It takes me every bit of 15-30 minutes to just sale the stuff on the TP! The transactions go through faster (bravo) but… it takes a long time to click the item you want to sale, click the top seller to “sale now”, go back up to your slider bar for quantity change, then finally click to sale it.

2.Hearts in Plains of Ashford, Caledon Forest, etc. – It took me almost an hour of roaming around and asking where to find the hearts that needed to be recompleted. These are areas I had already 100% completed… now I have to go back and find hearts on my map that are not seen!!! I had to literally walk around until they popped up because there was not any Telescopes to show where they were… I had already uncovered all of the map so it wasn’t indicative of where to go.

3.Warrior Adrenaline – My main isn’t a Warrior, but he is one of my backups… Adrenaline is so bloody broken at this point it cannot even be used. The only time I have been able to gain 100% adrenaline is on a long world boss fight. If you are just doing open world map clear / farm, etc. The mobs are spread just far enough apart that you lose all adrenaline before you can take the 5 steps to get in range of the next mob.

4.Tequatl poison – So the first time I fought Teq after update we went down to under 1 minute left before we killed him. The poison is ridiculously insane… I’ve been in organized groups every time. We even fought him again last night… (this time it was an organized guild kill) and we majorly struggled with him. This coming from a guild that has killed him every night since this fight was changed.

5.Lag – So some people state they are better now than before. I used to be fine… I can’t even run dungeons now, I cannot run WvW, I cannot play PvP…. Every single aspect of this game I enjoyed is such a lagfest I come back from a few seconds of freeze that I’m dead… I turned down my settings and this is still happening… I used to NEVER lag. Now I lag with everything I try to do.

6.New Player System – So I wanted to check out the New Player System. I leveled one of my alts a few levels just to see how the rewards were. The first level – account bound crap… fine no biggie. Then the next level I get a free Unidentified Dye! Thanks, for that… but now I wonder… is this game now catering to the new players only. I already have 4 level 80’s. I don’t really want to have to level another one. Here is an idea… every time I gain a level at 80… give me 1 free T6 mat. Just 1…. That could help drive down the overpriced T6 mats for those of us vets that are working on legendaries (plus those who haven’t built 1 yet).

EST zone. Playtimes 8:00pm EST – 1:00pm EST (typically every night with a variation of those times.)

Can only be on Mumble after my kids are in bed (impossible to concentrate, otherwise)… That being said I am 29 years old.

Most PVE time spent on my Guardian
Most WvW & PvP time spent on my Mesmer

Willing to learn new builds, play styles, etc.

Strategy Mindset:
Every game this is my typical run down…
-I immediately go take Home point and suggest all others go Mid or Far.
-I will then run to Mid or Far to join the group that is being attacked.
-I constantly pull up the map to see when points are being taken and try to go get those points back ASAP.

My strategy mindset could be best associated with an “Objective Assaulter”.

I feel a great team consists of
2 – Objective Assaulters
1 – Bunker at Home (Optional – to change this up)
2 – Response Team Members (consisting of ganking, running flank, supporting bunker or assaulters as necessary, etc)

Learning the few terms would also allow easy strategizing during gameplay. (i.e. “Assault Team take B” or “Response Team help at A”)

So the hardest parts of dungeons are thought to be “bosses” in the gaming world (imho).

Some of the bosses in GW2 (for easier dungeons)
COF1 boss – can’t stack (you can… but if you can’t dodge you die)
COF2 boss – can’t stack (kill acolytes and then run to middle)
HOTW1 boss – if you stack he will 1 shot the whole group
HOTW2 boss – underwater fight… need to keep moving in my opinion
FOTM bosses – none of them are stacking bosses
etc. (to tired to think…)

Well, from my perspective… aren’t a lot of games like that?

It’s the sense of getting outside the normal life and immersing yourself in a video game.

Consider, Call of Duty games… are they not the same after so long, but people play them even if they stink at it? They are just prestiging their level over and over to have a nice shiny emblem by their name?

DC Universe… grinding the same dungeons over and over to get tokens to buy a single armor piece to increase your CR so you can grind the next level of dungeons over and over.

Minecraft… build a house… outgrow it… mine materials… build a bigger house… outgrow it… etc.

Sports Games… I’m a huge sports fan (NCAA football) but that even gets boring after a while.

I don’t feel the need to give more examples, but every game loses fun value after so long.

Mount Debate

Consider the Tequatl fight on a full map.

I think the hardcap of Sparkfly Fen is 120 people. It gets laggy enough when everyone is rushing to the batteries and there are new spawned mobs… could you imagine adding an additional 120 mounts to that?!

It would be flamed that people keep getting disconnected at that fight.

In Skyhammer, I was on the Blue team. I went to the skyhammer and “calibrated it to blue”.

As I was firing it… the “Volunteer to balance sides” message popped up. I went ahead and volunteered.

Now, I am on the Red team. I went straight to the skyhammer to calibrate it to red. However, it stayed blue and I was able to fire it without recalibrating it to red. I verified the bullets only hit the blue team members, and not my new Red team members.

I don’t know what exactly are you enjoying but there hasn’t been any major update to neither of the things you mentioned from months.WvW and PvP receive so little attention by Anet.

  • In PvP they even deleted one map instead to try balancing it.Now they think to do the same with 2nd one.
  • About WvW heh do you see those new colour comander tags? They are new and shiny but again they are NOT what the comunity wanted.

Now lets talk about dungeons and FotM:

  • To dungeons the last major update to them was TA:A.Which made Anet to not want to do any new dungeon soon.
  • And FotM gosh the last major update to it was Fractured and i can’t even remeber when was that. It’s been so long from it.

SAB won’t be seen soon. What about Open World raid bosses like Tequatl and Worm?So i don’t know what exactly you are so greatful to Anet.Right now they are doing 1/6th of the work that they are supposed to do.They are focussing only on LS and that is only 1 part of GW2.What about the other 5 parts?(Dungeons/FotM/WvW/PvP/Raid bosses)

I’m pretty sure the majority of the player base are PvE’ers….at this point for sure, but I’m pretty sure it was always that way. It’s true on most games anyway.

SAB was never meant to be in the game. The only reason people miss it is because it appeared and was temporary. If it was here all the time, most people wouldn’t care. But yes, there is an audience for it.

But trivializing a zone like Dry Top or the new Living Story stuff because you don’t like it doesn’t really help. There are people out there, a few of us at least, who like that stuff. I suspect there are more of us than most people think. Of course, I have no proof of that.

I nowhere said i don’t like the LS i said that i like the rest of the game too.I just that Anet is focusing to much of their time on LS.What about the rest of the game? When will there be a ’’great’’ patch for it too?

you’re doing this in a thread thanking Anet for what they nailed in terms of good game design, mind you. Because you couldn’t understand someone’s happiness, for that matter.

Meh… trolls will troll… Most of the people that actually enjoy this game are playing it instead of complaining on the forums.

I am on the forums every day, but it’s because I have a desk job and take a break occasionally to see what’s up.

Every (and I do mean EVERY) single forum topic that gets started someone has to join in and rant and rave why that person is wrong/stupid, etc.

I'd pay $50 for a race change...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lodius.5392

Lodius.5392

I’m not saying it would be something hard to implement… but the personal story line is tied to each character based on race, etc.

The only way I could forsee this to change would be to have that character change races, but have to restart the story line completely.

Which would 1) bring complaints for having to restart … 2) bring complaints for people who did restart getting to farm easy Black Lion Keys and such…

For ANET, I imagine IF… this is on the table. Then it still has a lot of deliberation to go.

Lodius.5392

Dear Anet,
I would like to say Thank You! Honestly, for your hard work and engagement into the community. While there are plenty of people that complain and have issues… the truth is no one can please every one all the time. I have even fallen into this category… I issued tickets, complaints, rants, etc.

However, my friend and I were talking about it today. We really enjoy the diversity in the game and the actual size of the game. Of course, we always welcome and look forward to new content, we also find the game fun as is.

There are plenty of things to do that I never get bored. From WvW, to PVP, to Dungeons, to FOTM, to Map/Zone Completion, to Living Story, (previously SAB), World Bosses… especially Tequatl, etc.

I even enjoy how the “quests” or “Hearts” are done in this mmorpg aside from others. It is nice not to have to run all the way back to town to deliver a dozen bat fangs. Instead the quest givers are scattered over the map…. and the fact that you actually get the quest just by moving into the required area is fantastic! We do not have a huge list of quests to keep up with (also a plus) we can just zone in and look for empty hearts!

Lastly, Jumping Puzzles. This is a good distraction from the norm of things, but now that I have them all done I have little desire to jump them as the rewards aren’t there. However, I enjoy monthly reset and every single time I get to jump a few more to gain something!

Please add restrictions to kicking.

Fractal Feedback Thread [Suggestions]

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Lodius.5392

Thaumanova Reactor Changes:
1) The Inferno Room (or oven room) is an extremely annoying factor. The damage is so high that it takes a Mesmer to go as far as possible then Mesmer Portal back. Then a different person runs the rest of the way. However, not all the time is a Mesmer in the group for this.

2) Subject 6. In higher level fractals you actually get the opportunity to stabilize different rooms and can skip Subject 6 completely. However, in lower level fractals it is almost required to fight him. This fight is extremely difficult as he constantly heals if you do not kill the mini goo’s fast enough. If someone hits him while he is in block mode it quickly kills everyone in the party. Just a small nerf to make this fight easier would be greatly appreciated.

Mai Trin Boss Fractal
1) For the love of everything sweet and holy please fix this fight to not be so unforgiving. Especially at level 50… she hits like a tank with her shadowstep across the entire room.
2) The “blue aether mist bombs from horrik” are not easy to get Mai Trin to step into which will remove her buffs. The solution is to all pretty much stack. However, this is almost impossible at higher level fractals… once again… truck hit.
3) The cannon phases are fine and dandy… but it would be awesome if even 1 person survives then there can be a break in time where people can either get out of combat to rez others or the downed people can retry from checkpoint.

Rewards:
I have ran hundreds of fractals. However, I have never gotten a fractal weapon from this. As this is my most coveted weapon style… it would be nice to use some of those pristine tokens or regular tokens to spend on the weapon skins. I have all the rings I need with the stats I want. I have no other use for pristine tokens.

It would be nice if the exotics that drop in FOTM were NOT account bound. There is a 99.999% chance that the stats on the armor/etc are not at all what I want or need. The style is not any different from some of the other styles I already have. So these are pretty much a let down if I get them.

Mistlock Instabilities
It would make things more interesting and fun if there was a specific option to choose “Random Instabilities” so that every fractal 1, 2, 3, and boss were different. However, doing this would offer a larger chance at getting rings/weapons/armor, etc.

Anet is the Barack Obama of the gaming world…

They push their own thoughts of what people want instead of actually listening to what people want.

Reporter: “What about the precursor system?”
Anet: “No comment… but LOOK AT THE SHINY NEW THINGS ON THE GEM STORE”

Reporter: “Have you considered complaints of nerfs/buffs?”
Anet: “Yes. Have you tried our new Living Story season though?!”

Reporter: “What are you working on for end game content”
Anet: “We are going to make people play through a long commentary of the Living Story twice just to get achievements. …. errrr… I mean…. No comment”

See that’s the problem. You assume that what most people want is what most people on the forums want. I’m can pretty much guarantee to you that those are two completely different things.

It’s been shown over and over again,. year after year. The loudest most vested gamers want very specific things…that most players never use or don’t care about.

Raids are the perfect example. A lot of people in most games on forums are always talking about and asking for raids, when in reality very few people who play MMOs, by percentage, actually raid.

I’m not so sure that we’re more qualified to say what people want that game developers. We can only talk about what we want personally.

And from your post, I’m pretty much positive I want different things than you.

My post was intended to be taking a whimsical jab at the response of how Anet answers questions for reporters. It was not a reflection of what I want in game, etc. (although a better precursor system would be nice).

That aside, it was all for fun to express their dodgy responses in whimsy format.

However, medicine only helps so much. It is games like GW2 that keep me in a peace of mind. As you said, being able to escape and enjoy being an awesome Guardian, Mesmer, or Warrior. The feeling of being in a successful PUG and showing your skills, truly offers a rewarding feeling. Especially when you do something spectacular in game. PVE – boons, wall of reflection, healing tome (elite skill)
WvW – Staff skill 3 and Retreat for speed buffs. Staff skill 1 to tag all the mobs to get more WvW experience.

New - No idea what this is...

One Sentence…

“This game offers diversity of builds and classes without having to use the trinity for group content making “up time” more efficient and less waiting around for raids to start."
(Note. Oh yeah… its Free to Play!)

How conditions work on world bosses?

To my understanding you can only stack 25 conditions of the same type. All other conditions of that type applied afterwards are basically wasted.

1) Our guild met in Wayfarer Foothills and completed the Jackalope event chain… we all bought the Jackalope tonics and ran all across Wayfarer Foothills… it was a good lol to see everyone stop to stare. (There was about 75 of us as jackalopes).

2) Was not my troll… but saw a commander in WvW lead a zerg to jump off a cliff and all die… lol

3) Waited at the top of Obsidian Sanctum JP to kill people… mostly out of spite cause it happened to me and I had to rejump that long puzzle.

4) Intentionally helped complete the Blixx event!!!

How do I make money in this game?

Dungeon runs make the most money for anti-farmers.

Save up the dungeon tokens and buy 4 of a specific type of weapon and throw those in the Mystic Forge for a guaranteed Exotic Weapon that you can sale on the TP.

For the level 80 dungeons (Arah, HOTW, COF, COE) buy up some rare equipment (not exotic) for 30 tokens for helmets. Salvage these for a chance to get Globs of Ecto that sale for 40 silver each.

So a typical night I would run something like COF P1 & P2, COE P1, 2, &3, then HOTW p1.

A total of 6 dungeons. Which give 1.25g per path (or 7.5g total just for completing).

Those 6 dungeons net 60 tokens per each run. Thus, 360 tokens. Divide that by 30 (cost of a rare helmet) is 12 rares to salvage for a chance at Globs of Ecto. With the maximum Globs being 36 (highly unlikely) for over 14gold or not getting any globs (also unlikely) and making 0gold.

Karma – Spend it on Lost Orrian Jewlery boxes or on 4 of the same weapon type to throw it into the forge.

Laurels – If you don’t need them then buy Heavy Crafting Bag which contains 3 random T6 materials. Instantly sale each one for 25s – 65s. A safe assumption is 1g profit per bag.

Skill Points – Convert skillpoints into Crystals / Eldritch Scrolls, etc. Then look up mystic forge recipes and either create a weapon from basic mats or upgrade mats to the next tier. wiki.guildwars2.com

You’re looking at some of the Exotics that drop in FOTM.

99.9% of the time I have no use for them… but guess what… they are account bound!
