What balance notes? This patch barely had any.
It honestly makes no sense. Why would a class be doing too much damage in structured PvP but not WvW? How does that make sense?
They balance for WvW. They have said in the past they take it as seriously as PvE and structured PvP.
We were promised five pages of class balance changes. Yet all the patch notes are 99 percent bug fixes with some changes sprinkled in-between.
Thieves in particular were bracing for nerfs to burst, but even that didn’t happen.
The worst part: None of the notes labeled “PvP” affect WvW. So if you think a Thief was hitting you too hard in WvW before, it’s going to keep happening.
I just tested it. WvW does not count as PvP.

In patch notes, I mean.
I assume it does, but I want to confirm.

I’m not going to go into details out of laziness, but that is extremely sloppy math. You purposely removed way too many variables in your attempt to make the formula easy to understand.
Also, critical damage will actually get a roughly 43 percent boost from exotic to ascended in trinkets because, like Magic Find, it has a cheaper item budget per point.
I don’t like the addition of a new tier, but the math in this thread is misleading.
(edited by Lopez.7369)
That post was a bunch of contradictions:
“We want to add a tier with more stats between exotic and legendary, even though exotic and legendary basically share stats.”
“We don’t want a gear treadmill, but here’s how we’re adding one!”
“We want to make it an even playing field for all types of players, but we’re okay with leaving WvW and event players behind for now.”
The “exotic to legendary” line makes absolutely no sense. There is no stat difference between exotics and legendaries today. You have even said as much. So why is there a stat difference in this new set? Why couldn’t it be just infusion slots?
And why is it okay for WvW players to be left behind for one patch, even if it’s very minor?
(edited by Lopez.7369)
I think the Unique label needs more attention. This could mean people have to purposely equip stat downgrades to get the right infusion slot. WTF?
Out of curiosity, how much grind are you all expecting to do to find two rings and a back item that is intended to protect you from a new condition?
I wouldn’t expect these things to be especially hard to come by. Now the exact combination of stats you want, without being able to craft…that would be tricky.
Judging by the description, it’s total RNG. For some, it will take one run. For others, it will take dozens and maybe hundreds.
Also, I’m not sure I trust ArenaNet to add all stat combinations, like rabid and shaman. Even the stat combination shown is one of the currently available exotic types.
Offensive could be +damage in specific dungeons.
Wait, will the infusion slots have actual stats? That would be insane.
The fact it’s only about 3 percent more stats actually makes it stranger to me. Why even bother at that point? It’s breaking a big promise for very little gain.
Even stranger, they could have added progression just by adding the slot. Adding the stats is an unnecessary backpedal on previous promises.
I’m really worried about four things:
1. Does this mean WvW players are expected to PvE?
2. Will the rings be RNG drops or from tokens? If they’re RNG, that will be horrible. Making progression so random is not a good idea.
3. Will the rings have every stat combination? Going by ArenaNet’s history with shaman and rabid gear, it’s possible that might not be the case.
4. What does the “Unique” label mean? Does that mean I can’t use two rabid rings? Because that will make the ring a downgrade everywhere but the dungeon for me, which means I’ll only be using a worse ring in the dungeon for resistance. Not ideal, fun game design.
From the sounds of it, the gear will be completely random too. So not only will WvW players have to grind for dungeon gear, but they’ll have to run the dungeon a lot for the random chance.
After reading the blog…you can see the items go up in LITERALLY 2 points per stat aka 10 to 12 precision etc etc…
Personally I kittening love you ANET…thank you for this. I can’t wait! If you feel 2 points of stats are going to be that big of a deal for dungeon content that scales you down ( except arah obviously ) and wvw…then well we simply disagree…WTB PvE Leaderboard website. Willing to help with its construction / maintaining.
It’s +5 stats when taking into account the upgrade slot. With a full set of Ascended gear, that’s +65 to each stat. That’s a lot.
Didn’t Martin Kerstein say there would be a blog post on this today? What happened to that?
i’d expect it before midnight pacific time.
so within the next four hours. when it’s the 13th for much of the rest of the world.
I didn’t think they work that late. I guess it has to go through Europe’s editorial team too.
Didn’t Martin Kerstein say there would be a blog post on this today? What happened to that?
@PRO: Good fight in the borderlands today. I was the female solo Asura Necromancer that kept harassing you guys! Your group was after me a lot.
Hey there! You’re seriously probably one of the best Necromancers I’ve played against. I was almost ALWAYS poisoned when you were around, could barely keep it off even with my insane condition removal. Was fun trying to take you down.
Wow, thanks for the kind words! It was a lot of fun fighting you guys. Probably the best Elementalist I have fought as well.
Awful. If it’s better stats outside of the dungeon, particulary in WvW, I’m calling it quits.
I’ll obviously wait for more information, but I’m so disappointed right now.
@PRO: Good fight in the borderlands today. I was the female solo Asura Necromancer that kept harassing you guys! Your group was after me a lot.
Not really. I honestly can’t tell the difference between a good or a bad one because they all seem to do the exact same thing. It probably doesn’t help they’re not visible for so much of the average 1v1.
Honestly, most of the time, as a Necromancer, I kill Thieves with AOE bleeds before I can really see much of what they’re doing.
To be clear, I don’t even die to Thieves. I find it pretty easy to live through their burst and kill them, mostly due to Death Shroud. I just genuinely can’t tell the difference between a good or a bad Thief like I can for other classes.

Anyone else notice that Mark of Evasion randomly breaks rolls? The mark seems to drop and trigger mid-air if you’re by a mob or player, which causes the roll to stop mid-air. It’s kind of a big deal. I might have to use the dagger cooldown reducer due to this bug.
This might have something to do with the fact that Mark of Evasion, for whatever reason, makes your roll count as a blast for skill combos.
EDIT: Nevermind. Rolls just break randomly. I think it might be latency or because I hold Alt when I roll, but I’m not sure.

Hi, Derek, nice to meet you!
They should improve the matchmaking system.
We will offer character name changes through the Black Lion Trading Company/Gem Store in the future. It’ll be a while, I think, but it is coming.
Is that true for appearance changer as well? Why so long?
Yeah Lopez we get that and agree—it sucks (I’m from Darkhaven actually, luckily haven’t needed to do Arah). But, as already said, their teams are divided. A content creator does not necessarily have the skills that a bug fixer needs, it’s like using a wrench to tighten a screw—it’s the wrong thing for the job, it help with repairing in general, but it just isn’t made for that sort of thing.
They need to fix bugs faster—fine, but there is no prioritizing. It’s how all MMO’s work.
I already addressed that in the thread. Maybe the thread is poorly titled, but the point remains.
For the third day in a row, Darkhaven is unable to do Arah, a dungeon that’s necessary to complete a character’s personal story, and most major events are still bugged.
I’m not going to stop playing, but my enthusiasm for the game is definitely down due to my character being stuck with an awful color scheme due to the color of my bows. It makes picking out vanity items a lot less exciting, which is a shame because that’s kind of the point of endgame.
I don’t understand people who say this game needs a dungeon finder. Since it requires no specific roles, I always form a dungeon group in at most five minutes. That’s way less time than I spend waiting in a dungeon finder queue.
So when’s the next server reset? It seems no one is going to be able to do Arah on Darkhaven, a “Full” server, until reset. Melandru and Grenth are also still bugged, as far as I can tell.
The problem is the bugs are the exact same bugs that existed at launch. NPC escorts for the Balthazar, Grenth, and Melandru chains randomly stop moving. The Arah chain has always had problems spawning as well.
Maybe the bugs are happening less frequently. I can’t tell without the internal data. But what I can say is that these bugs happen too often.
At the very least, they should have GMs that can push or reset chains on the fly. Maybe they have this already, but it’s definitely not being used enough.
Whatever the case, there are too many bugs that break the endgame zone.
(edited by Lopez.7369)
Read Mr.Lizard’s “Why Haven’t They Fixed This Bug?” and see why this is more of a generic MMO thing rather than plain incompetence from ANet.
None of those sarcastic explanations really address my concerns. Unless the developers literally aren’t looking at live Orr, they should know it’s very much bugged. And the bugs are big. The temple events are supposed to be the big endgame events, and the Arah event unlocks a dungeon. They could be very difficult bugs to fix, as I said in my first post; but it’s been more than two months. If they really need more time than that, then something is really wrong.
Well new content is bound to have bugs as well, which means they’ll probably prioritize bugs there since it’s the new “shiny”. But I’m not an expert, so /shrug.
Yup. This is a big, legitimate concern.
Everywhere I’ve worked, the guys that wrote the code also fixed the bugs. That includes a gaming company and enterprise software. I’m curious where you guys get the info that there’s actually a separate bug-fix team. Is there an article about the ArenaNet organization structure somewhere?
I’m curious about this too, but the other post I replied to gives reason to worry even if people’s claims about different teams are true.
With all that said, the point is these bugs are not getting enough attention because they haven’t been fixed after more than two months.
(edited by Lopez.7369)
I don’t think the fixes are really temporary. I just think some servers get lucky and fail to see the brokenness before too long. After all, it seems like these events just have a chance to break at any given moment. Throughout the week, there’s more chances for it to break, so the longer the server goes without reset, the more likely events are to break. So some weeks people get lucky and that chance is never seen, but, more often than not, at least one major event will break.
Anyway, I’m sure they can technically work on both issues, but it doesn’t seem like the bug fixes are getting enough attention. There are still so many bugs. Major events being broken in the endgame area is simply not acceptable after more than two months.
They briefly added them to the gem store “on accident,” and they apparently worked for a few players.
They’re probably being held off for economic reasons. It would be financially bad for them to flood the gem store with Halloween items and character customization items at the same time.
I have a lot of patience. I didn’t complain about bugs for the first month. I mostly remained quiet the second month. My thinking was that these are complicated issues, so they require time to fix.
But it’s been more than two months now. On Darkhaven, the Balthazar, Melandru, Grenth, and Arah chains are all bugged. For the Balthazar and Melandru chains, the escort NPCs just stopped moving. For Grenth, the NPC that’s supposed to build the cannon just disappeared. For Arah, the chain just won’t start; it hasn’t started all day.
Plinx also bugged Thursday. Plinx just fell to the floor and never moved again. Only a lucky server reset the day after fixed it. I can’t imagine what would have happened if there was no server reset and the other events bugged as well. Cursed Shore would have been practically useless.
None of these are new bugs. They’ve been around since day one. These important chains have constantly broken.
So when will these be fixed? I appreciate all the content that came with Halloween and might come in Nov. 15, but if I have to chose between those additions and these old events finally working, I’m leaning on the latter.
No. Power builds have too many problems for dagger or axe to be viable in high-level play.
Yup, my purple bows have basically ruined customization on my Necromancer. It’s awful.
I’m sad. How much longer do we have to wait!?

Colin Johanson announces:
Winter’s Day, the December holiday. Promises it will be different than Guild Wars 1 because gods no longer exist.
A new structured PvP map in the Nov. 15 update.
A one-time event that changes the world in the Nov. 15 update.
A new island in the Nov. 15 update. It will be small or medium sized.
A new type of dungeon in the Nov. 15 update. It’s supposed to be a huge, multi-level dungeon that gets harder and more rewarding the deeper players go in. This sounds a lot like a raid to me, although it will probably only require five people. Sounds really cool.
Leaderboards coming “soon.”
Better tools for finding groups in the future.
Better dungeon rewards being worked on right now.
Teaser for Nov. 15 update might go live in-game today.
(edited by Lopez.7369)
I think the best back piece is probably the guild one with power, toughness, and vitality.
I thought the Halloween one was good at first, but you can’t put a Crest of the Rabid in it.
They really need to add exotic rabid accessories and jewels.
(edited by Lopez.7369)
It’s not required for anything except one achievement that isn’t part of the meta-achievement. It’s a fun challenge. Just don’t do it.
It’s so sad to see people immediately blame the game and developer instead of genuinely trying to overcome the challenge.
Yup. The rewards are disappointing.
My husband and I did it with two because neither of us can read. It was easy. I probably could have solod it.
A lot of people transferred off Blackgate because of this match-up. Very sad. It’s a shame a bunch of zerg guilds ruined the server for everyone.
Truces are stupid. I’ll never follow them.
From what I’m gathering in-game, most of our server is not happy with the transfers. Kind of funny to see so many people complaining about winning.
The strange part is it can’t even be fun for them in the long term. The cycle is just going to repeat: We’re owning! Man, these victories are easy. Wow, this is too easy… This is boring. Yeah, guys, I’m done with Guild Wars 2; there’s no competition.
They don’t realize the problem is that no one else takes WvW that seriously. It’s not supposed to be a bunch of people coordinating massive zergs on a 1,000-player Mumble.
Honestly, I’m beginning to think match-ups should last three days, not one week. The fact Blackgate is going to have to wait one week to have fun in WvW seems really lame.
Classy as usual.
I am very interested in this match even if no one playing it is…
I’m not trying to insult other servers. In fact, I think the tactic my server is using to win is a bit lame. Most people do not go into WvW expecting to fight a coordinated zerg. It’s supposed to be a bit less serious than that in my eyes.
I’m right there with you Lopez… I’ve been on Blackgate with my friends since the start, but lately I’ve been thinking of moving on to another server. I really don’t care if we win or lose, but one-sided match ups (on either side,) simply aren’t fun at all. :/
My thoughts exactly!
