The static field that the first champ golem boss in SEp1 puts up a static field (or some field that has very similar effects) that shows a certain radius in the animation, but is actually of a larger radius. Not sure if this is a bug in player created static fields though.
For Plan 2: Imagine the rage in map chat (and the forums) if the event fails. I don’t think it’s a good idea.
Then it would certainly do the job of making everyone work for proper completion. If it fails it’s not a long wait until the next event.
The problem is that there will always be situations where even if everyone works for it, you’ll fail the event (for example not enough people, following clueless commander, overflow). This will cause a huge amount of anger and finger pointing when it happens. And the next the event comes up no one will participate. They’ll go somewhere else. Somewhere where rewards are better.
Without farmers, there probably aren’t enough people to do these invasions — that’s the real problem. The content just isn’t compelling enough for people to play for the fun of it (and thus work hard to win).
For Plan 2: Imagine the rage in map chat (and the forums) if the event fails. I don’t think it’s a good idea.
Disable champ loot for aetherblades, molten alliance, and twisted nightmares plz.
The event is not compelling enough fun-wise or storywise or consequences-wise so if you take away the farm, only achievement hunters will be left (not for long though) — and do they even number enough to finish the event?
Just skip the event if it’s not fun. Much easier said than done — especially if you’re addicted to achievements or if you want to keep up with the farms and inflation. But in the end, that’ll be the only thing that tells Anet to slow things down and focus on quality, not quantity.
I disagree. Leave Liadri as she is. It should be a real accomplishment to have beaten her. And it’s not like it’s impossible, just refer to the Liadri Slayers Club thread in the QJ forum for some guidance.
For the record, I have not beaten her, and probably never will as I can’t get back into the Gauntlet (invasions just too boring!)
I sold all my tickets the night before the patch. Unfortunately they still drop in the open world and I now have a bunch more. The only use I see for them is to do Liadri, but I can’t get into the Gauntlet because those invasion events are just so tedious.
The solution is easy, the only “problematic” spawns are the aetherblade pirates. This can easily be fixed by changing it so once the aetherblade moral is depleted and the aetherblade captain spawns, no more aetherblade trash spawns from that area. So there is some farming, but the amount is basically cut in half. This also makes the aetherblade spawns easier and brings them more in line with all other invasion types.
Your key idea is needlessly complicated
People are farming the champs because
- there is practically no difference between winning and losing: the difference in loot rewards is very small and killing just a few champs makes up for it; and there is zero difference story/world-wise whether you win or lose.
- the event is not fun — the way the invasions are designed, there’s very little inherent fun in trying to win (it’s a bit to try to organize an win, but the event is very repetitive and tedious) So the only players who participate are farmers and people who need the achievement; neither need to win so they don’t try to.
I really get the feeling ANET is out of touch with reality if they’re asking 7 tickets, or they’re actually aware what they’re doing is exploiting those with a gambling addiction.
Of course they’re aware. And this is exactly why:
Because at an average of 40 dollars a ticket, you’ll be forking out 280 bucks for a fused skin. If they priced the skins at 280 dollars in their store, you wouldn’t buy it.
Most will give up halfway, which means big $$$ for Anet.
it’s very fashionable these days to depict males in this way. Especially in television commercials.
The funny thing is we all had the same complaints with the ballon towers achievement (visit 30 ballon towers) in the previous chapter of the living story and yet they did the same thing for this release!
CHALLENGING, PERMANENT, CONTENT THAT REWARDS YOU BASED ON RISK PLEASE.
So, more Deadeye. Yep, we saw how well that went…
Also, your capslock key seems to be stuck. You should probably try to get that fixed.
Nah, Deadeye didn’t reward you based on risk, because with the correct strategy there was no risk whatsoever. Hell, he was lucky to land one hit on my Guardian. Nothing risky about that. Granted, they probably never intended for him to be so easily killable, but… still.
Exactly, at least the intent behind Deadeye (and the rest of the Gauntlet) was good: more reward for more risk and more reward for better skill. Anet just happened to botch a couple of the bosses and made them too easy — they should have persevered and fixed those bosses instead of simply giving up (zero rewards for all!).
This newest chapter of the living story, however, is completely mind-numbingly boring: just use your AOE tagging skill until your health suddenly decreases by a large percentage (why did it decrease? it doesn’t matter.) then dodge twice backwards and heal. Rinse and repeat.
Is the world saved when you win? No. Because if you lose, nothing happens.
Great thread! I do think Anet has basically given up on having a dynamic world. Looking at this latest Living Story, the invasions have zero impact on the world. Whether you win or lose, there are no consequences.
Anet is catering to the min-max players, which is really foolish because in doing so they are driving away the non-min-max players.
They should cater to the latter bunch because the min-max players will always find something to do anyway: we always see that when one farm is nerfed, these players whine for a little bit and then simply move on to the next latest and greatest farm.
These min-max players will always be satisfied customers because in essence, their goal is to participate in the best farm — and no matter what you nerf, there will always be a new best farm.
So in order to have more satisfied customers, Anet should be catering to other parts of the player population — an example would be those who want good storytelling/a dynamic world.
One issue I do have with the DE’s are the escort missions. They are horribly tedious. There’s simply not enough action given the time it takes to do these (especially since those you are escorting usually move really slow). I’m not asking for non-stop waves of enemies, but rather something should be happening most of the time, be it attacking mobs, or conversations between the NPC’s. As it is, most of the time nothing is happening.
But after only 2 weeks they turn against you.
Very similar to the personal story, where you meet someone in one mission and then they die in the next. GW1 had, IMO, steadily improving storytelling from Prophesies to Factions to Nightfall (I quit before EoTN for non-storytelling reasons), but GW2’s main storylines (personal stories, living stories) have been bottom of the barrel (some of the mini stories told in events are quite decent though).
Anyone planning one?
This is exactly the same complaint we had with the ballon tower achievement (access 30 ballon towers)! And yet we get the same problem here. Ridiculous!
Yeah… maybe I should say it this way:
out of all the super-profitable farming methods, which do you hate the least?
… or do you find them all equally unenjoyable (certainly a valid answer!)?
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a lot of different kinds of reward-rich farming, for example:
- Champion farming (I believe Frostgorge sound is popular right now),
- Invasion farming
- Deadeye farming (RIP)
- Queen’s Gauntlet bottom floor zerg farming (RIP, more or less)
- CoF (RIP)
- etc.
Ignoring profitability, which do/did you enjoy gameplay-wise the most? Perhaps we can give Anet some indication of which types of farms we would prefer playing?
Personally, I farmed Deadeye with my own build (Necro, very sub-optimal) and I found it really fun farming while tweaking the build to be better and better.
(I find the invasion and QG bottom floor zerging really really tedious; never did CoF; and haven’t done any Champ farming)
Please add Logan and the Queen (these two even make sense storywise — Scarlet certainly would get laughs from us killing these two)
The real problem with thieves is that they are no fun to play against. If you’re winning, they permastealth and escape every time (good ones, of course). They then get to re-engage at their will to try again; rinse and repeat until you make a mistake and are killed.
(Actually with the insane recharge rate of initiative, they will almost surely win this way because they will have full access to their skills before you do, so each attempt to gank you gets easier and easier for them.)
Anet will never do anything about this though.
If Scarlet’s supposed to be the Joker, does this mean Countess Anise is her Batman?
… Which means Logan = Robin? ._.
This is awesome.
Kids are not allowed to die in games, otherwise it would’ve been banned in many countries.
Interesting! (Stupid, in my opinion, but interesting.) I didn’t know that!
It bothered me that the Queen was giving her speech to at most maybe 10 people.
… with aegis during the bombing at the queen’s speech = blatant attempt to make us like Logan more?
It has failed. PLEASE kill him off.
You’d think that being sent to a strange place at least means an interesting screen melting hallucination effect!
This thread made me think of office space
I agree, multiple simultaneous invasions would really spread out the population (which is good, I think).
You guys are real naive to not expect a nerf to gauntlet farming.
And if I recall, players have been clamoring for challenging content.
You got it! And now they give you daily rewards for completing the gauntlet on each boss.
So what more do you guys want?
Oh we expected a nerf — I personally used up all my tickets and opened all my resplendent watchwork boxes the night before the patch — however, we expected them to nerf, not to destroy.
Who’s going to do the gauntlet now? With all its annoyances (the worst being having to waypoint and run all the way back when dead) the new one time reward (that ignores gambits) is just not worth it.
Too bad, the content was actually fun. They should have made Deadeye harder, or even replaced him with someone else.
In fact, they should have had new bosses introduced frequently and regularly (expiring the old bosses). If you’re skilled enough to discover how to farm them before they expire then you deserve the money.
I really don’t want faren to be dead. if he just got a bit more interesting story it could be a cool character. not like the tragic hero they want braham to be (who just annoys me personally). he’s just a fellow with mostly personal interests and some loyalty to the queen and maybe the player character – all of which makes him seem a lot more like an actual being than those super-duper-heroes..
and fortunately, the achievements seem to indicate faren can be rescued (achievement for rescuing him < 3 minutes).
he’s actually a much more fun/interesting character than most of the ones that Anet want us to like … like Logan, Queen Jennah, Kiel, Braham (not as much Braham, but I agree with his being annoying). Probably because he isn’t a 1 dimensional goody two shoes.
Aside from people — commanders usually — directing the traffic (which actually must be pretty fun), it is pretty mindless. Just spam your AOE skill and [F] for the drops.
Someone in another thread suggested having several invasions simultaneously on different maps — thus spreading out the population and making each player on the map more important. I think with a few safeguards, to prevent zergs hopping from map to map, this would be a great idea.
As it is, I too just find a corner to AFK after doing one champ. Now that I think about it, that’s pretty lame … I’m likely not even going to finish this storyline at all.
I agree with the OP… spreading out the population would make each event more interesting. As it is, running around with an enormous zerg, spamming your AOE taggin skill and [F] (for the loot) is not really that fun.
But.. but he fell down the big hole! I haven’t finished the new content (possibly never will as the zerging is just so tedious) so I guess I haven’t seen the part where they reveal he’s alive?
Too bad…. all my hopes crushed!
With this new update, are gambits completely pointless in the Queen’s Gauntlet (aside from achievement hunting)?
Originally, the intent was more rewards for more risk, but with the one-time 24s rewards, do you get any bonus for accepting gambits?
yeah .. having to do zerging to get back in is just awful. I just go in, do 1 champ, then find a corner to AFK while I do real life stuff (making sure to touch the keyboard every few minutes in order to not get auto-logged out). The zerging is actually less fun and more tedious than farming deadeye.
Anyway, there’s not much point in ever returning to the gauntlet anyway, unless you’re an Achievement hunter.
… Lord Faren, that means they are potentially willing to kill off other characters who are integral to the personal story! (I’m assuming Lord Faren is truly dead.)
This has awesome potential. I would like to see the following killed off:
- Queen Jennah
- Logan
- Kiel
- Trahearne.
Make it so Anet!
at least you have the boxes… imagine the anger of those who still had gauntlet tickets — which are completely worthless now.
totally lame. at least make the rewards so that they’re break even plus a little bit.
or… even better, change the bosses that are too easy to kill. the QG was at least challenging.. this new stuff is just spamming 1 with the zerg (IMHO)
too bad… the gauntlet was actually fun. now it’s just back to spamming 1 with the zerg.
by the way, does this mean there’s no point in doing any gambits since you only get 1 bag with money?
Anyone know if the nerf is only to Deadeye? Do Stugar and Chomper drop money still?
If so, time to discover how to farm them!By the way, is there anyone even doing the Gauntlet now that you have to go though all that work just to reopen it?
no, the whole event has been gutted of rewards.
REALLY!!?!?!? WOW. I actually found it fun/challenging to search for good builds to farm with. So now it’s 100% money sink or do you break even at least?

Hopefully it’s because Anet realizes we all hate him.
Next: Logan.
I agree, having to WP and the run all the way back is absolutely horrible design. Gameplay-wise, I see no reason why it must be like this — all it does is kitten people off.
Farm Deadeye to pay for your Liandri attempts. (Though with the update on Tuesday, it’s likely Deadeye will be nerfed.)
Tazza (Final boss of SE1) hasn’t dropped loot for months either. I presume this is intented though, as there are 5 other bosses dropping bags on the already very short path.
If you fight Troop commander Kaeyi and Tazza at the same time, as it’s intended by anet, you get loot from both of them. A friend insisted on killing both the last time i did SE P1, so that’s why i know.
That’s incredibly weird. Because that’s what we did. We only got something from the champion.
I don’t remember which one we killed first, but I doubt Anet would bother to put something like : you must kill Kaeyi first if you want a blue from Tazza (back when Kaeyi was added).
I believe the dungeon’s end is triggered upon killing Tazza, so you almost certainly killed Kaeyi first.
I would be satisfied for quite a while if they simply added two new BL maps and one new EB map (where, or fairness, all three servers from the same matchup get the same BL).
And, since Anet loves RNG so much, the BL each matchup gets is randomly chosen.
…autorunning back to gauntlet thunderdomes after having died:
- go to the bathroom
- make a sandwich
- laundry
- car oil change
- buy groceries
- buy groceries and make dinner
- watch a 90 minute comedy film
- watch a three hour epic
- build your own house
Anet: Why is the waypoint so far???
Though proper use of dodge/Aegis/reflection can mean 100% damage reduction.
True, but some professions (Necro) have no access to reliable Aegis/reflection, so this chill business might be useful!
Ok I tested. Without chilled Ascalonian Mesmer uses reflecting bubble every ~15 seconds. With chillled he uses it every ~25 seconds.
15*1.66 = 25
So it works. I can post video proof if needed.
nice testing! I always had the feeling that the NPC’s would cheat and be immune to chill. Good to know they don’t!
I think Ancient Ooze (arah p1) uses its skills on cooldown.
interesting… i wonder if chill can help with soloing, then?
According to the patch notes:
Changed the mechanics of Deadeye Dunwell’s boss fight to reduce farming efficiency
In light of the fact I was critical of the last patch notes for their euphemistic wording re the Subject 7 nerf, I should probably say kudos for telling it how it is this time round with the Deadeye nerf.
I respect what the developers are trying to achieve with these challenges, and I do really enjoy the Gauntlet, but testers really need to test more thoroughly in future whether there is the potential for one class or build to farm an event beyond what is expected.
The original patch notes had zero mention of the Deadeye nerf. It only listed the server crashes. If you look at the Deadeye threads from earlier in the day many people were displeased because of this.
AS for testing.. I agree, Anet should seriously consider hiring some of the top players to help them out; Wethospu for example.
