I would love to know what spells that does massive damage. Or hear the definition of massive.
I am not complaining about the class being weak though. The correct word would be decent damage with a lot of spells

You deal massive damage …there isn t written massive damage on a mobile target….
Also with a single spell infact only a single spell deals damage….
so you actualy deals massive damage to rocks, gates etc with a single spell because other spell sucks….

i noticed i was dying like crazy…..and then i noticed…..
So i tried it on 2 moas (1 at a time obviously ….after all i use an elementalist) i have something like 14000 HP (i was infact trying to get some mats for my exotic my current armor is bad) ….
At 7000 no armor….at 5100 no armor….at about 3900 armor popped out….
So i killed the moa (with help >.>) took of the trait and tested the other…
Well arcane shield went out at about 1000 HP….
Then i tried to play…with both traits as always….
same result aside the fact i often died without final shielding or it triggered at about 100 HP -.- (this because normal mobs hits harder than moas).
I asked around and seems i am not the only one to notice it.

Earth’s Embrace : start at around 25-30% HP insted of 50%
Final Shielding: start at 10% instead of 25%
or did they nerf them to match BASE HP of a nude character?
Because final shielding at 1000 HP (usually it starts when i have <100 HP or don t start at all because i m dead) and the other at <3000 are so useful….
They were vital to my playstyle but now are useless……as my ele without them.

You lack defensive reliable skills and a decent downed state.
WIth staff all is good till level 70 where you begin slightly to notice even in PVE solo there are serious issues.
I.E. you probably learn how to control enemies, but you can control them for a limted time, afetr wich if they didn t die already you risk to find yourself stuck without utility/cntrol spell…And due to the low dmg output it happens most of times.
At 80 it becomes a nightmare.
Also if you need to slow opponents with water and then switch to deal some dmg you are no more able to access your regen spells for some time (and i have 20 arcana).
With dagger it seems lot better, because you are able to escape fast controlling your movement rather than opponents (and you have access to some good knockdown spells also), but then you probably risk to be oneshot in dungeon :| and by larger bosses.
At lvl 25 you cannot probably understand what isn t working…..i found the spike in difficulty at around 70 when i really had to put down staff because i run out of spell while opponent was still at 60% life.

I would just say something..
I don t like dungeon a lot being quite a frustration rather than a team play…
I’d just say a thing…i hear lot of people saying dungeon are not that hard….just to discover they only rely on IA exploits (that are not serious, like many you find in any mmorpg and nobody cares).
Yet really few cares to play most econcounters as they are intended…..and yet say how dungeon are easy…
So if you:
-pull one enemy at atime
-run ion circles to kite mobs reducing their effectiveness
And things like that, please don t say dungeon are easy…….enter the rooms and face battles as they should without taking in account limited IA instead.
And consider that dungeons should not be the exclusive property of few competitive clan/team.
Now its really hard to finish a dungeon properly with random GOOD players…..expecially since they won t probably use teamspeak.
Consider that if only the few able to do dungeon would pay for the game or play it alone (because they are one of the few endgame content) this game would die in weeks.

well but switching gives you auras >.> also i want to use staff also and staff without 20 arcana is bad :|
not to mention that with staff you need to switch a lot in pve to control enemies (earth 4, water 4, air 5 if i remember correctly)….

So i need to polish my build and prepare appropriate equip….
I’d like a build able to play in D/D and switch to staff if needed (for example for dungeons).
Also i play mostly PvE and i ‘d like to play dungeons also…..but sometimes i go to wvwvw also i mostly avoid spvp for now but i’d like to not be completely unviable for that
Actualy i use 10fire/10wind/10earth/20water/20arcana
i like 10 earth because if i am distracted, auto armor of earth and final shielding are lifesavers ._. also i like at least 20 points in arcana because its boring to wait XD

Now for the equipment…i really have no idea on how to get exotics and wich to get >.<
I have tailoring almost at 400 and some yellow weapons to salvage….
Could you tell me wich daggers/armor to get and wich is the easier mode to get them (crafting should be the easiest they told me).
And maybe point me to the recipe or guide for obtaining it ._.

When i bought this game i read that support classes were not needed and any class could do anything..
So that is the actual proof something is wrong……
Ill keep posting thins everytime i read that to play this game i have to play a support ele 0/0/10/30/30 and such -.-

What it really surprise me is all those people continuing to pretend is normal to be required to be an 80 full geared ele and exploit IA to play in a lvl 40 dungeon o__O
Yeah we know you require 70 traits to play easy dungeons otherwise you get oneshot….
Just for a change let us see a party of lvl 40 RANDOM group of good players….
After all the game says every class can do anything and support classes are not required…..

i could accept therange but the line of view on an AoE/burst? ._.
Also infinite vs double range is not a buff.

well its not completely true we cannot kill many mobs at once….
Problem with ele is lack of versatility…
If yu go for a staff damage build or balanced build you can kill 4-5 lvl 60 (my current) enemies at once.
(I just use earth elemental, earth 2-4, water 4, fire 2-5-4, lightning 5-2 etc ….
If i recall correctly while using some glyphs).
Then you are almost unable to enter dungeon story modes not to talk about spvp or story mode (where 3 enemies spawns near you and you don t have time to prepare)…..
i don t want to say what they should do, they probably have enough data to decide themselves, i just don t want to be THE healer in most social occasions mostly because Anet promised us we wouldn t be forced to do that.
Still waiting with hope because i think they will patch us someday.

Most players now use support ele so support ele are wellcome.
Other ele not so much in my experience…..they just relegated us in the “healer/support” role that shouldn t even exist in this game :| (for many reasons first of all the one that makes healer hard to find in other games).

Ill just call a basic game design concept present in mobas, fps, hack & slash, rpg, fighting games, beat them up and even third person games:
Because skill-shots and combos need more work to do than simple or auto-aimed attacks, they are rewarded to the players more than the others. (proportionally ofc)
This is not arbitrary. That relation means that a good player can real show of making combos/good aimed shots and getting an edge for it (have u ever seen pro playing mortal kombat/street fighter games?) while beginners are compensated for trying combos instead of button smashing. Everyone wins.
The thing is: that rule its not yet in the game. Elementalist combos-skillshots deal less damage that 2 hits without swapping from other classes given the conditions. (even in 1 hit in WvW as some screenshot showed in this forum)That can NEVER happen in a real balance.
I really like the swap/combo game play, and because of that I would really hate if they buff the basic attack/damage from the class. But the combos and skill shots must be fixed/updated with a real compensation balance in mind.
actually combo does not require almost any skill….just bad fighting games for examples rewards complex combos…and they are considered usually unbalanced.
Just coming fromcompetitive FG scene where its crystal clear that any child can learn flashy long combos given the time, but just few can learn more complex mechanics based on mind games, traps etc.
So from a certain point of view only the risk coming from “attunement dance” should be SLIGHTLY rewarded, but making ele OP because it requires to press more buttons would be horrible.
The problem is that despite requiring skill, it seems that has really few builds and most of them can be easily outperformed by other classes.
But also there are so many classes hipsters that loves their difficult class you probably never heard of.

I hope this is the right place to ask but i’m closing to lvl 80 /._./ with my ele and i am closing also to lvl 400 tailoring.
So i started to look to exotic armors and i found some items that can change armor’s appearence opening some black lion boxes.
I checked the skin i liked most to start gathering money/karma/materials or whatever is required to, unfortunately it seems nobody has ever seen the armor i like….
I heard there is one for pvp (named acolyte if i recall correctly) but i don’t like pvp and i’d want it for PvE.
I heard a friend once found a piece of it for PvE (but sold it :| and does not reminds the name) so it should exist a PvE version.
Anybody have some info on it? like…pve set name or how to get it so i can use the skin…(if i am corrrect).

-Hanging out with friends => too difficult and has classes requirement
-Teamwork accomplishment => not interested…expecially without approrpiate reward
-Beautiful and unique scenery => too difficult and has classes requirement
-Interesting and diverse story => too difficult and has classes requirement
-Unforgiving mess your face up difficulty => not interested…expecially without approrpiate reward
problem is:
No appropriate rewards => should be an event for casual players (after all most hardcore gamers should have PvP and such….)
As a casual player i’d really love to play dungeons with friends and in order to make some new friends also…
But no its too difficult, and because i use an elementalist built as i enjoy (aka not support) i cannot even enter low level dungeons without asking helpto specific friends that are geared and specced for dungeons >.>
So yes i’d love to play dungeons for fun but they are too hard to be viable just for fun.

I can easily kill 6 opponent in a row in PvE (yet i m just 65)….
And many ppl claim this….
The problem is i can do that only on passive opponent, if i get attacked by surprise by more than 1 (see story for example) i really have to struggle to stay alive, all tactics are replaced from “try to not die first” thing that require lot of time and lot of skills cancelling your dmg output because you need the attunement dance to stay alive….
That means you cannot explore alone caves or any place with high respawn rate.
Also positioning and recharge before starting ANY fight makes the ele not suited for solo PvE
In parties instead he is too slow against normal enemies and effective but too squishy in dungeons…
It shines in events btw

That is true in fact they did well correcting a problem buffing a path too easy in dungeons but…
They are really fast at punishing (even too harsh) things in favor of players but really slow to address problems that takes away fun from players.

The game is already so hard that you often needs equipments to do some things…if you cannot get it easily you will be cut off from a big part of the game :|
Having at least one skin easy to obtain would be mandatory and the other skins requiring work would be fine….
Considering thise there are some issues…..i am not upset but they should try to not address ONLY things in player favors….with so many skills bugged and OP enemies…..
For the rest i agree that farming only a line of a dungeon is not right…..but they should ve thougt of what damage it would do to legit players also……
P.S. this said from a player that loves to buy minis and funboxes instead of equip.

Are they really that fast to fix complex classes balance glitches in other games?
Dunno i come from a fighting game where i used a bottom tier….after 1 year i t was finally “nerfed” XD
so i can give them some more time….
Also its probably my fault because everything i use seems to end up in bottom tier area…
And i’ll soon start a mesmer (not because i’ll drop ele but because i want to play 2 classes) so you are warned on next bottom tier profession u.u

My limited view on the elementalist problem.
It seems that elementalist is lacking in many aspects making the class limited to few roles AND builds that is exactly what Anet didn t want with GW2.
On the other side they did say they are working on balance and they didn t say anywhere ele is good as it is.
There are just few players that says l2p and that is frustrating….and surely would be cool if someone at Anet staff rather than a rush random buff would say if they agree there are some balancing issues with the class or not so they can take their time while reassuring players.
After all its best to use the class you like because OP classes are at risk of nerfing as well…
In the mean time i could just say that in PvE (maybe not at 80 but for sure at 60) your earth elemental can serve as a tank if you get surprised by too many enemies.
And then you can decide to flee safely or AoE yur opponent.

No. It means they’re hard to play. That doesn’t mean they’re underpowered when played decently. It certainly does mean a bad elementalist is underpowered compared to a bad warrior or guardian or ranger.
To me that says that the class is inherently underpowered, the fact that a good player can get past that limitation is pretty much irrelevant.
A bad Ele will probably lose to a bad warrior, but a good ele is on at least the same level as a good warrior.
Look at it this way…have you ever played Tekken?
If you have two people who have never played Tekken before, one chooses Law and one chooses Jack. 99.9% of the time, the one who chose Law will win. However! If you have a master Law player fighting a master Jack player, the Jack will win more often than the master Law. It’s because there are intricacies about the game that, when grasped, make the advantages that Law has (faster attacks, mostly) basically irrelevant.
I’m not saying this is how the Elementalist is, but I know that there is a point where the Elementalist is at least as good as, say, a warrior of the same skill level. The game hasn’t been out long enough to know this yet, but for all we know, the Master Ele may be the most valuable player in the game.
This is absolutely wrong.
I came here from soulcalibur5 (aka tekkencalibur -.-) being in that game at good levels for almost 7 years…(knowing all framedata etc)
I really loved a bottom tier character, the worst of all…and having lot of experience i could do really well with him despite beating other high level players was really hard if not impossible sometimes.
Yet few elitist players continued to say the character was fine and i wasn t good enough……(until i single handedly beat them with a “dumb” character simply exploiting weaknesses they refused to discuss answering with the same void arguments*).
Other excuse was “the game have just been released”……
result: the game is now almopst deserted because people don t want balance and prefers using the same 2-3 excuses that can be used for any argument…..
So if now something doesn t work it have to be fixed with what we know NOW and not keeped as it is because we could not know something…
If something other will be discovered making ele OP it will be fixed accordingly….nerfing is often easier than buffing.
*on the other hand in that game dumb characters are those with difficult execution that once grasped can kill you without even looking at the monitor…
So execution should never reward a character much because in the long run any monkey can press buttons in the right order.

i really don t get a point.
People who said:“to be good you have to use my build” (usually D/D with 30 arcana etc).
If there are trait choices and weapon choices it doesn t seem right that just a couple works.
You should be able to use your traits as you want (even if in a clever way) and choose wich weapon you want to use, otherwise its clear that something doesn t work.

i do the same but i summon an earth elemental before pulling i also use air skill 5 and 3
with earth armor earth glyph and arcane armor i can survive even if i pull 3 mobs sometimes….
Yet itsmuch easier with pther classes
