A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Not if you find something strange and starts keeping track of it.
At that point its not what you remember.
From what OP said, guardians seems his perfect choice.
Despite lacks ranged options.
The thing is, how will you balance WvWvW?
What most servers tend to do is winning by numbers (and experience), so balancing via 1v1 specs would maybe return into crippling the way WvWvW is played (maybe a right thing I do not know)
I think the deal with WvWvW is that the scale is too big to calculate for every encounter… If they say made the map suited for 40-60 man groups/guilds, with only a few objectives (Two castles maybe), you could more easily retrieve data on what the builds are, the roles and how these are played within this setting…
Of course, this is my opinion, and you are inclined to disagree with me, after all my WvWvW experience was rather small…
I can tell you how most other companies balance stuff and how possibly original developer tried to do it.
Its about normalizing skills and considering risk/rewards of each…then looking at profession defining one.
What we have now:
A Whole bunch of OP skills and totally useless skills, balanced via TRAITS and with no guidelines.
If a skill seems too strong, developers nerfs everything else randomly of the profession.
If a profession lacks good skills, dvelopers change traits.
WHat is quite common is skill nerfs and trait buffs.
No wonder the gameplay is getting worse.
We totally need the opposite.
And mostly the captuire poibnt balance is the possible worse mistake that could be done.
Its just ensuring frustration outside PvP at any patch.
Best way would be normalizing skills and then changing them balancing about risk/reward also adding few slightly more powerful to add profession identity.
And reduce by a lot traits impact that give Birth to absurd builds.
TL:DR
Balance by guidelines not by trial and error.
P.S. and they don t even try to balance WWW they don t even care about the impact of PvP changes on WWW and PvE….

nearly full glass ele is a thing in wvw and can make good use of LR, learn positioning.

When i posted my builds and tried twice to ask for people to help developing a non waterbot build, the answers i got was that dps ele WAS NOT meta and was only for Pugs blobs.
Now i would accept if it was something old and not few weeks ago and 2 months ago.
Same answer was on several channels so NO dps ele is NOT a thing yet. in WWW.
Expecially post patch you are lucky if you meet 1 non full tank ele in a week. (I still have to meet 1 other than me in T1 eu).
I can t speak for PvP, but the problem of WWW are PvP balance developers.
And the players who believe PvP and WWW have similar balance…

Seafarer’s rest and i used your build but quit it year ago when anet buffed warriors and mesmers.
I can assure you on my server nobody can win a 1VS2 unless their opponents are total beginners (unless they use thieves).
And i myself kill lot of thieves.
Nothing to do with “skill” but with lack of it of my opponents.
When you meet a decent one, there is no chance you will kill it.
I also have a roaming party with 2 thieves when i want to be OP… it means you can instakill anyone from stealth.
(the opposite is true for any Group with 2+ thieves..stealth is a mechanic considered the apex of unbalance by some esport developers like namco for example….nuff said).

I know by experience its incredible hard to learn for pugs.
I myself can’t do it with anything but warrior (on speedruns.. on normal runs i can do it with everything).

At most you can find someone soloing lupi.
Luckily logging a warrior you have so much margin for mistakes you can join arah speedruns with it and nobody will notice if you are a first timer….until you learn to react properly.
(example: mesmer will die fast to lupi kicks, a full zerk warrior will facetank it no problem and regen with signet).
simply the game is balanced around capture points.
Its extremely destructive for the rest of the game that is played by 99% of the community like its extremely selfish to do that in the name of their esport dream, yet they don t care.. we still have stealth thieves, torpedo warriors, rangers balanced to perfectly be coherent to exploit definition (a CD8 1500 range oneshot skill is all but a smart move in a massive WWW setting) and then we have the heavy armor blobs.
If that wasn’t enough they first come up with the brilliant Arrow Cart buff idea and finally with the siege disabler traps.
Cool nobody else can vapour form?
What about portal?
What about invulnerabilities?
Its better to be able to defend a tower from FEW opponents BEFORE they built a siege (any other situation ele is not a threat) or being able to just stand under enemy fire for long, disengage at will, port a zerg into a tower and so on?
So you want to nerf the only feat of a profession better than Others because they are better in an extremely situational case?

I play mostly Fractals and WWW….
Simply i hate when they use those sort of lazy design to hide a total lack of content.
Not even a skin…nothing just a 2D icon and a couple points in stat moves that won t change anything (and to be fair, the commendation/laurels trinkets are even better).
B2P has sense on the other side.
It have worked for years until few companies learnt how to get more money with less efforts.
(also served based games…but i liked Gw2 because of what i knew about Gw1….and what i play could be mostly changed to host based).

NOBODY but a stealth profession (i would argue only thief) can win a 1vs3..
If you meet 3 extremely bad players its possible.
But your 02246 (i used that a year ago), won t be able to kill a single DECENT thief, warrior or mesmer.
They can disengage at will and you have just updraft to slow them down (on a loong CD).
(You should know why i said only updraft ignoring other CC skills.)
and then you are left with abysmal cooldowns against them fresh as new.
I won t comment on anet balancing that seems lacking any guideline and just done with random attempts….

The earth ele can be used to tank occasionally in PvE quite surprisingly well (most recently tanked 49 fractal Mossman for full duration, keeping him stationary). The water ele can also provide a wonderful heal for stacks. But yes, I would happily trade these situational elites for something legitimately useful.
That because agony doesn’t deal damage to pets.
That means most Attacks in fractal won t scrap any pet.
You know you can keep 3 squishy phantasms alive for Whole fights in fractals?
The water heal is so slow to be almost useless.
You actually need a Group of 5 for every part. (they are designed for 5 players)
Dungeons are “hard and frustrating” until you learn mechanics.
I suggest you to find some mentoring people to teach you.
Since this have been reported only in WWW and PvP i would like anet to know PvE is as laggy as PvP and WWW.
In dungeons for example:
-At peak hours skills are slower to respond (totally unplayable on reactio..everything has a delay of 1 second at least).
-you get hit during evades (see lag masking).
-sometimes there are huge lag spikes for the Whole party
-during them it often happens 2-3 players DC if not everyone.
Same for every sort of istance.
Or even in openworld (really risky when selling/buying/moving objects).
Even at world bosses there are lag spikes.
P.S. clearly server performance/bandwith issues.
You first need to complete story mode.
After that you can choose any explorable path (1-2-3)
They are slightly different and they give you daily reward if you don t run the same twice in a day.

Its not that changing colour palette on AC weapons would have just been almost as fast but way better for every player.
It would still be less work than a single BL weapon.
Collections are a nice idea developed in the laziest possible way:
issues:
1) putting 1 TP rng items in most collections was “not smart”.
If anyone having access to infos stockpiled and started manipulating them maybe it wasn t so hard to see.
2) Rewards value: you spend alwatys more than you would getting same items in other ways.
3) reciclying content forever: Even giving weapon/armor skins using the base models and changing colour or adding particle effects would have been a good deal with few minutes of work.
Giving trinkets invisible in game just updating the Icon is really lazy.
4) its not content, its pushing players to replay the same old stuff forever.
Smart eles don’t stray far from the portal though and immobilize only works if you hit them with it before they go into vapor form
wall skills like guardians works on vapour form.
Vapour form is not istant cast also.
Thief isn’t much of an issue, their teleport works similarly to the mesmers downed ability and you have more than enough time after they move to stomp them before they use their invisibility – usually.

In a balanced fight you can t lose 10-15 second to stomp a thief.
And they can be ressed faster unless you keep attacking.
baically most thieves are best to be killed than stomped in most situations.

I never seen a decent ele using LH in a PvP setting they get CC and melted in seconds.

As for staff as said needs the use of unviable only theoretical builds.
As far you can do 5000 damage with a slow staff skill you will be dead in less than a second by a GS mesmer with 2 skills at the same range before your attack reach the target.
For burst fresh air is still superior.
What i can t understand is why people never consider risk reward but only damage.
That is why we have anet nerfing 6 seconds casting aoes….
BTW in www (and pvp i guess) nobody but me uses LR (i used it even before the patch), and guilds still ask for XXX66…. so a nerf won t happen on something nobody uses.

If you hear someone crying about an ele in WWW he is not a www player.
DD ele in WWW is all but easy to play since you NEED dps since you can t prevent your target to flee.
And the fact most people lists have exacts similarities between PvP and WWW suggests they just play one and assume is the same for the other.
DD ele in WWW is as easy as playing berserker ele in PvP.
In WWW there is 33% more stats at least, and condition (control) reduction up to 80% or more maybe.
That means your full celestial 00266 ele will just kill doliaks at most, and die to any Group passing by.
(i have dps issues with 70% berserker 30% celestial 04046…just FYI… and i even go 64022 sometimes to stand a chance against some professions…and you should try to play those before even trying to say L2P since they are all but easy to play….).
While thief will be able to spam 2 buttons, disengage and reengage at will with rotations extremely easy.
You know that only in the weekend, i heard 2 thieves going back to their main class after trying other professions?
It happens so often that its hardly debatable.
Thief in WWW roaming is the most forgiving and beginner friendly profession.
Might have a high skill ceiling, but for sure the skill floor is the lowest in the game.
It has simply everything…even warrior can’t stand a chance compared to it.
Stop assuming WWW has anything in common with PvP… your suggestions ruined the game enough already.
Or try to count the roaming thieves opposed to eles you meet in WWW…..20 to 1 at least.
And most eles runs different builds (fresh air, aura share even condition and stuff like that mostly not because there is build diversity, but simply because noone is so good to be meta).

I used to think ele vapor form was bullkitten but having mained an ele for a while now I can say seriously that ele down state is underpowered. The only time vapor state is OP is in wvw, close enough to a friendly portal. The rest of the time ele down state is junk.
Lure eles far enough from the portal that they can’t slip through in down state, or have immobilize ready. It’s not a huge problem that you miss out on one bag.It’s the strongest downed state. It 100% without fail stops the first stomp attempt of just about any number of people and lets you reposition yourself.
A thief can prevent 2 stomps something no other profession can do.
Possibly the best downed state.
Ele can be CC, can be killed, still get condition damage ticks and worst of all often it bugs in conjunction with MIST form.
Aside that we definitely need an ingame option to report exploiters.
There are even worse than that (expecially since the brilliant ranger update) but no chance to report them.
The trick is Learning how to read LFGs.
And despite what they say, AP are a great indicator….not too low nor too high.
Coupled with other things.That’s not true at all. It literally makes no difference whatsoever when it comes to pugs— I’ve had necros with <1k AP perform better than 99% of the pugs that I’ve typically gotten before and I’ve had people with over 15k AP doing swell too.
If you were to average it out amongst all pugs you ever get, you’d obviously end up with an AP range in the few thousands as it includes people with low and high… what difference does it make?
It irritates me when people associate skill with AP as it’s completely irrelevant. What you should be looking for is checking what their traits/weapon choices are along with whether or not they are willing to communicate. The vast majority of all friends that I’ve had on this game would rather have a noob pug that is willing to learn and will actively respond than someone silent and passive.

I associate AP with game time.
Having few AP means probably you are new to the game (since i never farmed AP and yet i have about 12K).
If you have too many AP you farmed APs so you are possibly too dedicated to openworld to be a usual dungeon runner.
It happens to have skilled people with less than 3000 AP but that is quite uncommon.
As it happens you get awful players with 13.000 AP
This game only takes time to learn stuff not skill, and AP shows how long a player is in the game.
Even if he is a speed runner, if he has low APs chances are high that is the worse kind of player-……wannabe pro, that reproduce anything read by dungeon guild without understanding anything but using those as divine laws…..

Reflect is a skill: its purpose is… to reflect projectiles.
Using skill in their intended way is not an exploit.
Anet only cares for PvP so we get those ridiculous attack that if reflect to the boss kill him fast.
ANET answer usually is making everything unreflectable and unblockable, and then nerfing Critical damage and dps if people do the only thing left in the game: damage.
But will never be able to ban anyone for using skills exactly as intended.
1) is purple instead of green
2) icons are offset and badly cut
3) there is even written flame and frost

Umm the build i saw (updated to Yesterday) was a signet build not a mantra build.
That is why i questioned its efficience.
No damage increase, except passive stats in first line.
just distortion on signet and signet recharge… we don t really need

The rumors about pugs being extremely bad are exaggerated.

PU mesmer is OP 1vs1 against noobs, turn off auto attack, bring some condi cleanse and they cannot kill you, they are also incredibly slow.

Its quite the opposite actually, bring heavy CONDITIONS.
Something you should consider before calling noobs people i guess.
I acrtually use utilities a lot ._. also temporal curtain + iwarden for example to clean conditions and stuff, consider phantasm attack rate on summoning and much much more.
Also the GS in TA aether etc etc
For example defender and disenchanters have their uses.
Its all about using all the situational stuff you have to become versatile enough.

If you are immortal even doing 1 Damage is too much.If you really think thief is immortal, then you can’t have ever played one. A thief with dagger main hand probably have between 14-18k health in WvW. Any focus can and will kill the thief, unless he run away.
What I said is true, but I do that on all my alts. On my thief it is just a game of hide and seek, but I don’t have problems with thieves on my alts either. As I said; thief is insanely easy to predict. Once you learn their rotations you will find them much easier to deal with, unless you meet a very skilled player – but those are far between.

Mesmer in CM is bad because Warden no longer reflects all projectiles while traited. For example, the Grenadier boss will toss grenades past your Wardens if they’re traited.
Kind of defeats the purpose of being a Mesmer in a dungeon full of projectiles.
Also, the 2/4/0/5/3 build is pure Phantasm damage, meaning your dps will be significantly bad. It does provide support, but the 64040/64004 build will improve your DPS, which is included in all reflects done, even by your Phantasms.
Assuming the projectile reflects work, the 640xx build is stronger.
Assuming they don’t work, the 640xx build is still stronger.
Assuming the destructs work, the 24053 build is stronger, except, you know, you’re not traiting into Warden’s, making it useless.
I can agree with DPS on a 3 min fight.
I don t in a 30 sec fight.
Also Yesterday joined a CM full run….i was Killing most stuff while the party was still running to the stack point…
90% opponents have guns, not grenades.
Same can be said on SE P3 mostly.
