My only problem with the transmutation system is that now it is impossible to transmute gear for stats on things that were otherwise unable to be salvaged. this includes WvW gear and Karma gear. Doing this has cause a lock on rune sets making them go higher in price simply because they are now getting harder and harder to get. there needs to be a way to remove these runes from gear now that things have been changed, and it needs to be affordable.

Transmutation Charges; Karma Gear

What is the answer to this? all transmutation stones/crystals are now switching to charges so you can reapply skins to different stat combinations that you have, but they had another function; allowing you to swap sigils or runes from one gear piece to another of equivalent type. The answer for this before patch was transmutation crystals or Black Lion Kits, but for karma gear you cannot actually SALVAGE them last I checked, so black lion kits do not work. Does this mean that upgrade extractors are going to be the only option for this? It seems rather wrong for this given their price vs Transmutation stones/crystals. or are transmutation crystals still going to be available for those who wish to use them for this option?

Balance patches; Frequency

Most people on this subforum all have there general opinion and ideas upon what they feel certain classes OR certain aspects of the game needs in terms of actually becoming a more fun and entertaining environment. But, What I wonder is how do you feel about the previous balance patches in general? Do you find the frequency of their occurrence to be to your liking? Do you find some of them to be pushed rather harshly or not harsh enough? Do you feel specific gametypes need different levels of attention and how would you rank them?

Power Necro Viable?

Thread went from someone saying condis are spamming to people saying Power is spammy. Its not. Stop speccing Deathly Invigoration and Life blasting all the time. Strange how the best way people defend condi not being spammy is to bash power builds for being spammy. You just had to mention stuff like active condi xfers, selective boon watching, Utility Management (epidemicing conditioned dead bodies) and mark prioritization.

As for the comment on Ele, Yes. It is wayyyy more active than DS1ing all day, but even Power builds for necro in general. Even though I am defending power, I would be silly to admit its even close to the piano keys of Ele.

Hi. With the new patch coming up, I need some feedback on a build I have been trying. Ive had good success running around both alone and with friends in either 1v2s, 1v1s and group fights, But I feel maybe I have done the stat placement incorrectly so I need some actual feedback. Soldiers

I have used two armor sets in the game recently while roaming; Soldier+ Cavalier and also Zerker armor. In my experience, Yes, you can use soldier and roam pretty good, but it depends on where you put it.

Having as little pieces as possible is pretty much the goal and its better on bigger armor pieces, never accessories. I actually hit harder on my personal soldier set because my zerker armor + Cavalier accessories is pretty bad compared to zerker accessories + Soldier/cavalier armor when building a balanced build. So yes, you can work it in, but you have to make sure you still have lots of zerker related pieces because otherwise it will literally take forever and you will just be rolled over by the next incoming zerg. Base damage is good on soldier, yes, but critting can speed up fights hella fast and if you are critting, you might as well get crit damage.

This is my experience. so tl;dr, If you are roaming, you want to survive but not take forever because you arent escaping anything without death bodies. critting is needed.

:| Also, why are you bringing up Condi stuff when this is a direct damage stat talk, spellofiniquity? of course Dire has high damage, because the 3 main stats you need for condition damage are built into the traitlines and food. Condi, Condi duration, precision. Most Necromancers would build soldier are missing two key components to the perfect build; crit chance and crit damage. 1 of these gates another and its the one that is most sought after (crit chance).

Now that crit damage is getting nerfed, I have a strange feeling that dire is going to become more powerful if stats arent lowered slightly. Condi itself is fine, but Dire right now is getting lots of following as a go to set. How do you guys feel about this stat combo vs the crit damage => ferocity change.

Hi. I am a WvW player but I am worried about the distribution of rank points. i feel that custom arenas should not offer anywhere close to team arena amounts. Yes, I understand that there is some more merit to playing Team queue, but these people are also doing ranked and in a more hardcore environment. Hotjoin is a place to understand the basics of sPvP and fun matches, but Team Arena/ Solo Queue should be the goal.

Some questions about Necro solo roam WvW

I solo roam on my Powermancer, and it’s a lot of fun. The only class that is truly an irritant is Thief, and really it’s mainly just when they run D/P. The ones that cheese the weapon set the hardest will be the most difficult. You can bring them down, but it’s the most annoying thing in the game for me.

The rest of the time it’s a lot of fun. I run with Traveler runes to get the 25% movespeed buff (I don’t enjoy swapping weapons/utilities while running around, though I did that for a while), and the key is that if you enter a fight, you win it. If you’re out of range of a chasing zerg you can swap to Spectral Walk quickly to get down a cliff, but if you pay attention to where your zerg is and keep an eye on the horizon, you’ll be fine. I feel like getting a 1200 range blink is peanuts compared to the utility from Plague Signet, Corrupt Boon, Well of Power, Spectral Grasp, etc., so I stopped using it a long time ago.

I would provide more, but I need to get out of dodge. It’s a fun class, but if you want to escape situations more easily, Warrior is a better choice. I just personally think the time saved from escaping is basically nothing, and resetting a fight is the same as losing to me. In it to win it.

Little question: How much crit chance and toughness do you shoot for when running power? I also run power, but since Im running travelers I feel Im always short on crit chance or toughness even though I can shoot for awkwardly high crit damage.

And what weaponry do you prefer if you are solo roaming? Do you still take a staff?

I disagree from the standpoint of a necromancer, ele, ranger, mesmer and warrior player.

Reason I do is honestly, In some cases immobilize and chill is the only thing that stops mobility and low CD specs from being insane. a good example is chilling a warrior. short from doing this, a warrior has the ability to keep a fighting advantage all throughout the fight if he doesn’t have something slowing him down. However, if he burns all his condi removal, this gives you some head room to get your bearings back. Yes, it is a disadvantage to him, but in most defense against this, the warrior had various options to deal with chill/immobilize inform of traits (See Cleansing Ire or if we speak of Immobilize, Mobile Strikes). there are so many options given to deal with chill even on other classes that they could have used to not interrupt their flow of play.

However, I will say this; Immobilize needs to be looked at to a high degree. As a necromancer player, this condition is both way too good to use and way to annoying to deal with. This is mostly because there is no real simple way of turning when someone gets immobilized. Since you can’t move forward, you are often sitting there while someone is violently hacking away at your back for extended periods (4s+ even without stacking immobilize in some cases) . In some cases I can understand how this can help certain classes also, but overall its feels like insanity that you cannot turn when immobilized in most cases. I dont think it needs a stunbreak because of this, however.

And for my stance on the ‘condi meta’, simply need to make some of the power specs more viable again. Problem nowadays is that some classes spike so hard while others can barely dent them. In most cases, if they pick condi they can still do damage while those spiking classes are invulnerable due to prior application and because many of the AOE skills are heavy handed into condi. But there is alot more to that topic than I can actually say for as a sort of ‘returning’ player. I will say that unless they create more diverse options for classes that are as strong as their condi options or better by a small amount, nothing will change because condi is application and tank. Its the truth.

Dont use Scholar Runes. you wont be over 90% HP much in any WvW situation. get ruby orbs instead if you are looking for Offensive runes.

As a Non-warrior player (even though i have one), the only thing that made warriors OP is Healing signet.

Thats it. Other things help, yes. But this is the major culprit.

I know this isn’t the correct format, but I can’t agree with the change on Sword skill #2 being inverted. The whole purpose of it is to break off the chain and disengage from combat via a dodge or sorts. If you make it so that you have to jump forward first, it will most likely get alot of people killed in WvW moreso than going backwards.

This is my only complaint for this CDI.

Power Necro: DS reliant vs Consistent power

Sorry! I guess some clarification is needed; the reason I was asking was I have two builds in line. One is without Deathly Perception and one is with. the Deathly perception one had abysmal crit rate outside DS, but godly within. I know some people have it so its good both ways with well over 40% rate outside, but the purpose of this build was to be rather tanky also, so I shaved some crit rate in favor of toughness and vitality. (i wanted atleast 2.4-2.5k armor and 20k+ health without food) It is to the point that , when used correct. They both have similar toughness on paper, but the deathly perception one beats out on Effective power when in DS by 1k about along with better HP. This was the main reason for the question.

I guess some context to why the question was raised is better than letting some people who would read this thread later misguided.

Power Necro: DS reliant vs Consistent power

This is a rather strange question, but consider this a small questionnaire of sorts.

which do you prefer, a tanky DS build that can dish out zerker DPS only within death shroud, or one that is consistent both inside and out of Death shroud DPS wise, but with less power (100-300 loss) and less vitality (1k-2k hp loss)? this is basically a question about 30 soul reaping, Deathly Perception.

edit: I guess I should note I am playing both WvW and PvE, so insight on both sides of the 3 sided coin would be nice.

Bredin. I don’t know what made you decide on this build but it is amazing. I just tried it out all throughout today with a minor adjustment (I just made it fit with my melandru runes by going an extra 10 in Skirmishing and picking up longbow trait instead of empathic bond). I love it. I just did a clean 2v4 against some thieves,warriors and an engie and it went swell. Also had some decent 1v1s and better ability to stay alive from my other build. Thank you sir because this is god fun and its pretty good.

Just going to say that you should not overlook things like protection and blind. with power weapons, blind is going to effect you more while bonfire on torch gives you a few pulses so it can be dealt with quicker. Not saying you can’t run power with torch, however. Also, toughness is more sought after in many cases than HP so you will find yourself fighting targets with decent toughness most of the time. Does not include Engi or Necro as they build hp sometimes.

Longbow: How the heck does this thing work?

Ive been lurking these forums for quite a bit since I started leveling my ranger, looking through on different builds and talks about how ranger is bad/decent, weaponry, etc.
However, everytime I seem to come around to power builds, most suggest both longbow and greatsword. Now, ive played power ranger for a bit and recently went hybrid and had success.

However, I still cannot get a grasp of longbow or the GS switch that most builds run. Everytime I switch longbow, all that happens is someone just runs up on me and I cant even hit them for the next 8-9 seconds cause its so slow attack rate compared to shortbow/sword. Is there something I can do besides Point blank shot that will help this? Also, is remorseless worth taking while using said bow?

edit: I should Note that I am speaking in terms of WvW. . .

Can't Log in?

I originally thought it was a minor issue at first, but now im starting to wonder if there is something wrong. Ive recently tried logging into the game like I normally do. No problems with the pop-up log in menu. However, when I actually try to ‘play’ a character, I am getting a Network error, despite my ping being mostly fine. Is this just something small going on my end or is this just a maintenance I didn’t hear about?

edit: I can even see people logged in on my friend’s list at the log in window.

I honestly love Sword as a weapon. Out of all the classes I played (warrior, Necro, Mesmer, Ranger, Elementalist) , it is my 3rd favorite (1st being Ranger greatsword and second being Necro Dagger mainhand). Don’t change the auto attack, please! I will have sadface, Anet.

Of all the classes in this game, thief would be the #1 choice to go full zerker if you decide to play a zerker class… just don’t be stupid enough to zerg in groups, duh

Actually, no. I honestly feel that Necromancer is alot safer to play if you want to go full zerker than thief. With the way Necromancer works, If you Force everything down with high damaging 100% critting burst shots with 1200 range, it actually adds to survivability because every death gives you 4-6% of your second hp back. Thats huge.

Yes, they are slow, but they are incredibly tanky for zerker gear.

While looking at the necro, if you are not going to ever allow the ability to regen or heal through, or bleed onto, our actual health, would you consider modifying the way regen/healing works when in DS? 100% of all healing is wasted on the necro while in DS, but why not allow heals to effect our DS pool, even if it were a minor say half of what the heal would be to your hp pool it would allow us to stay within DS longer when in groups or solo if under the effects of a regen. I admit it is high time we got a nice boost to our blood magic line, but if you are truly trying to make us THE attrition class we need the tools to stay in the battle. I realize that upping our condi damage may have been what you wanted for us, and it is a welcome change, but IMO it is the wrong direction to take the necro, especially those of us that want the ability to turtle.

I honestly feel that the not healing in DS thing is tough also, and it probably should just be 50%-40% of healing is given to the necromancer while in Death Shroud . This or make it so 25 in blood magic made it so you could get healed while in death shroud. That way, it will make it so the traitline is viable, while also making sure you dont have what Anet fears : an unkillable super high damaging machine. Thats the only problem with healing in death shroud easily or it not being reduced.

As a Necromancer, Warrior, Elementalist, Mesmer and Ranger player, I feel that some of these changes are pretty decent, especially the change to Warrior and Necromancer. I am very glad that no more emphasis on buffs are being directed to Necromancer in terms of condi and instead is working towards the sustain side that players were looking for. That said, there are a few things I worry about being a player who enjoys playing all of these in both sPvP and WvW. (excluding mesmer which i mostly just play in PvE so I can’t say much abou the class honestly)

Ranger
In terms of overall play and execution, ranger is both easy and devastatingly hard to compete in areas. Some weaponry on them offer almost a super easy way to just go about playing the game, giving you a decent way of feeling like you can damage. (shortbow) However, this is only a ‘decent way’, as compared to Necromancer, Ele and Warrior, sustain on ranger is actually pretty hard to keep while also giving a reasonable amount of damage.. Troll Unguent helps keeping you up for a bit due to its high amount of healing, but many rangers are forced to build alot tankier than some of the other classes in WvW.

In the case of skills for them, Longbow and mainhand axe feel like they need adjustments. Longbow can do very great damage for its purpose when it comes to 1000+ range auto attacks, but since quickening zephyr is so hard to actually slot as a utility, Rapid fire almost feels useless in terms of use outside shooting a stealthing thief. The channel is too slow, and while the vulnerability stacking is good, it just is very lackluster. The same can be same about barrage. It has a good use, but overall it is very slow.

In the case of mainhand axe, It suffers from only one thing: Animation and base damage for some skills. honestly, the appeal of ranger is that almost every weapon in worth using in condi or power, but for the power side of axe, the aftercast of autoattack is so long that its almost not worth using. while I dont know if it would be good to increase the base damage of the autoattack or split blade, but maybe make it so each axe that hits a player on Splitblade applies a stack of might for 3-5 seconds.

The only other problem I have is overall selfishness of ranger. Right now, outside guard spamming with Nature’s Voice and Healing spring, they dont offer too much to the table even in terms of helping fellow players. This may change with Sick em and buffs for pets, but there just needs to be more selfless reasons to bring a ranger.

Necromancer
The only thing I can ever ask to be looked at for this class is Axe. Right now, the weapon sees very little play because of its form even with the recent buffs. the big problem is mostly because since you are so close to an opponent to use it and its relatively slow auto attack, you often miss many attacks, and with Ghastly claws most people will either dodge and miss the whole channel (which this is fine for a skill) OR they will run behind you and completely cancel the cast (this isn’t fine). This needs to be fixed. Probably best bet to tackle the autoattack of Axe so that it doesn’t overshadow mainhand is either increase the speed of auto attack or switch the effects making Axe auto give 2-3% life force each hit and make ghastly stack vulnerability. Don’t change Unholy feast as its perfect. Also shave some bleeds please ;o. condi damage is a bit much, but can’t nerf it to hell. maybe take one bleed off Mark of blood and see how it works.

Just make Burning speed , more responsive It feels clunky! Also, PLEASE revert Ride the Lightning back to its original cooldown.

Guff. I gotta ask. what is your build like? Ive never heard of 100% crit rate ever for power crit. Also, what example would you have for sustain anyway? I am kinda in the odd end from playing Ele and Necro so it is hard to grasp where to pull sustain from.

Are swords good on rangers?

As stated above, swords are very solid weapons for a ranger, once you get used to movement mechanics involved (though some may argue somewhat situational). They really came to shine once the patch that removed rooting came into play.

Lastly, there’s a fair share of rangers out there that also prefer using the sword with the melee assist option set to OFF, as it prevents certain enemies from being pushed back (useful when stacking).

About skins, get Infinite Light Imo best sword ever.

Power Ranger 1v1s: help?

2.5k armor for a melee class isn’t enough… 2.1k power is low and 42% crit chance isn’t so high at all…

i suggest you to look my guide but i use for my power build longbow and gs not gs and sword/axe; are you sure you want to play with your set?

I was originally using Longbow+ Greatsword. And i didn’t know that wasn’t enough :| My necromancer runs around with lower armor than that, so i figured if I get 2.7k armor with signet it would be fine. . . power can reach 2.3k with food and 45% crit chance. I will read your guide though. :o

Hi, I wasn’t sure if it was ok to post this, but I have seen a couple people use these weapons together and now im curious. I recently got my ranger to 80 sporting around 2.5k armor (2.7k with signet) and a 2.1k power, crit at 42%, and crit damage somewhere around 65ish. running 30/10/30/0/0. I have Greatsword, sword+Axe.

I have been having a serious hard time fighting thieves and I was wondering if anyone can give me any tips on how to deal with them. so far ive fought D/P thieves and S/D thieves and they both seem to just eat me horrendously with me only putting in a few dents. Do I possibly need a weapon change or stat change in order to do better also?

Dagger Mainhand in my opinion is one of the high risk, good reward weapons. In general, compared to condition necros, Power ones will always be closer in the fight and thus get hit more, but Dagger is kind of not easy to get a hang of at first. WvW is slightly harder as your mobility REALLY stands out to be inferior in terms of other classes. Still, its useable.

In my opinion, its one of the more ‘fun’ weapons Necromancer has and does great damage (3k-4k end auto chain. rest of hits do about 1k-2k). It plays great with wells and makes good use of the 30 spite trait, Close to death (20% more damage after 50% hp on enemy). You can usually spike down a number of classes quick through sheer brute force, and since you are a necromancer, you have enough movement-altering CC to really keep on the opponent when you get close. Life force upkeep is generally good, and gets better when combined with Warhorn’s locust. Unlike axe, you can attack stealthed players. These are it’s strengths.

Now for its cons. First thing is that Lifesteal on 2 is horrible (or lifesteal on necro period =/) . Its good for thieves who you know they arestealthing as it still hits them and if you have to range a bit, but still its kinda meh. Obviously, while it is good damage, you will never out burst classes like warrior and Thief. Because of this, as a Dagger player its usually good to take Spectral armor or a defensive offhand like offhand dagger. That way, you can atleast flip into DS to negate theirs and ‘trade’ or weaken them. The other bad part is the range itself vs. Necromancer’s state of the game. They obviously aren’t fast in terms of getting out of heated situations, so in WvW you will often find situations where you wish you had spectral walk and could juke someone or a flesh wurm somewhere. Point is, you are slow so engaging has to be done carefully and watch everything around you so you know when its time to just GTFO. Blind is also a big enemy to you, making thieves a frustrating thing to deal with period. Staff helps this a bit along with Deathly shackles (They both AOE like crazy, and deathly has an immobilize! Its nice if this hits!), but a condition Necro would have done almost 2 times better than you in the same situation.

In terms of traits and gear, most will always tell you to go 30 into spite for Close to Death, but after that alot is fair game. Big common build is 30/10/0/0/30. This gives you decent defense and DPS across the board via, along more crit chance in Death shroud (making you have a reliable ranged option in terms of power to take down runners) or even stability. Gear is a toss up also. Some run knight armor and zerker accessories, while others mess around with tankier setups (PvT armor for example). I personally go the common build with Valk weapons, Knight armor and Zerker Accessories and just rely on death shroud and defensive utilities for my defense. (Spectral Armor, Well of Power, Etc).

Anyway, that’s just my personal thoughts on dagger. It takes some getting used to, but I enjoy it, more so than D/D Ele.

Vampiric isn’t that great. D/D isn’t that bad, but Dagger offhand is more defensive than offensive. In dungeons, you honestly are trying to roll over things, so i agree with Spoj. go D/F, A/F . Staff is kinda fine as you will be getting might, but honestly if you are using dagger you are just trying to constantly staying in range to DPS while staff is just there for whenever you engage on targets thats really far away.

Dagger chain attack vs Axe

I honestly would love to take axe on most occasions, And I dont mind it in PvE because I can always use it.

However, In PvP/WvW I usually really need that spike damage that dagger has and use many immobilize to stick to the target making Dagger more attractive. The big problem moreso is the way Axe 2 works. Its amazing burst DPS and is good because if you do run stuff on crit (traits or even on hit) then it can proc a good deal. But dodging this is too much of a DPS loss to me compared to an auto. That and the whole running behind deal. I might try it again now that i learned you can stand still and your character will turn, but I can’t see a reason to stand still besides letting them DPS on me heavy themselves.

And no, the 15% doesn’t make it outrank Dagger in damage.

sad, but your main class is still op.
i have do 1vs1 before the nerf and after the nerf vs necromancer.
still cant win it. (no ulti use)

dont know wheres the logic on necros atm.
win nearly each1vs1 and be a beast at the teamfight.
also win vs builds just created for 1vs1s…

simple kite enemys and stay on distance when spam them to hell…
np with enough cripple, fear and slows…

for sure the qq against necro is huge, because nearly nobody can beat this atm.
there are only some less builds can win a necro atm
and this also not so easy…
sry but playing necro need not much skill atm, start spam is most time enough to bring enemy player fast in trouble and defensive, because its like a condi burst.
also double fear is lame like hell when u hit the staff fear and spam fast the ds fear then and maybe put the fear wall after when its a point defender you fight there… wow, gg.
most lame profession atm and most easy to play one.
no reason to defend this, im not calling much for nerfs, but because necro, fun stoped hard to play this game atm… (well when i play a bit necro then not, because its like godmode)

i just wonder why necro have to win nearly each 1vs1 and is ALSO a monster in the teamfight.
when you dont go fast for the necro he wipe the full team, the guard goes so hard in trouble when the nec stand free and start spam.
and 2 ppls who go for the nec have it not rly easy to become him down.

for me its most lame profession atm, it was not bad balanced for the kitten buffs.
the patch have buff the nec just rly to MUCH.
for sure nec main players defend it now like hell, because its the free ticket to have easy play atm.
for me np i just start also use it and lame around like much players switched to necro.
this last patches have change the full ladder and meta.

You mentioned 1v1s about 3 times in the starting of your post. Believe me, I read the whole thing but thats something that was your opening sentence. Most Necromancers can be killed via CCs and stunlocks. None of them really have stability and most 30/20/0/0/20 builds will take Spectral armor as its only stun break. So what is your problem? Have you even tried this? And if you noticed the buffs to Spectral Armor, you will see that right now Anet is purposely making them good at 1v1s with that skill up. I know you want nerfs, but its getting to the point that outside the recent DS change of HP and spectrals use within the form, Necromancers are actually having alot of their stuff they had forever when they were mostly ‘pocket’ punching bags (who had good damage before) taken away. What more needs to be nerfed in your opinion?

Fear is a class mechanic and so is terror so taking those away would just make the class very generic. Vampiric was already bad in scaling, and they already nerfed corrupt boon. Necromancer ‘block’ (its not existant anymore) moved terror up another tier along a damage nerf. Greater marks was moved up also. Putrid mark was nerfed on staff so condis arent full transfers, its 3.

Just tell us what you think needs to be nerfed specifically.

The Terror change would hurt alot more builds than you think. A simple change to dhuumfire would be worth it. The normal condition build before dhuumfire has been completely gutted away in favor of ‘balancing’ the trait. That means 0/20/20/0/30 will not be available for those necros who want the stability or soul marks, ultimately crippling both sides of damage and survivability. The latter being the one things necros need. You add too much baggage to a build, and people stop even considering it. This is evident with Greater Marks. People simply wont take it anymore in most cases because the baggage is horrendous. Now imagine if you put the prime trait for Necromancer in a grandmaster. I can’t imagine how many people will jump ship from the class alltogether.

However, I welcome the other changes. They are annoying, but are fine balance wise.

I posted a not so great idea a while ago in the constructive necromancer thread. It got drowned in everyone’s else comment, but I thought it wasn’t a terrible idea. here it is, copy paste style:

“If Dhuumfire was a change to a Torment- applying shield, It would need a slight damage reduction (talking maybe only 10% or less), an ICD of atleast one for the application of torment itself , and only 1-2 applications of torment per hit. It would also need a similar duration of maybe 3-6 seconds. How it is applied, however is tough. I honestly thing that it would scale with percentage of hp, being cast and every 25% with an internal cooldown of 20-30s. Maybe even longer. The idea is to make the class still have a reason to dip into Spite as condition, but offer something for power players also if they so choose. It could be made more appealing by making it also give 4% more direct damage per condition on the opponent while the actual shield is active. This way, while its not a full 20% like close to death, its a viable option that can combat that trait on the power front also. The actual shield I feel probably will have to be no longer than 12s. anything higher will be too much.
Besides that, the overall tankiness of necro so far is getting there, while still having problem to focus. I dont think there is much that can be changed outside what was already done to spectral armor on this front without upsetting the balance too much. If the only option to nerf is to take away dhuumfire or nerf terror, however, the obvious first one is a better choice. In terms of actually changing marks, they are pretty much fine and can be dodged by most who watch the hand animation.”

Probably needs the cooldown of it actually adjusted slightly, but its an idea.

I don’t know how I feel about Virulent Offering, honestly. Sorrowful Revenge sounds good though.

Well of Blood is a 9000 on you, 4500 to your teammates’ health heal if you do the math with just a Shaman Ammy. If you go Cleric’s you can get 11 thousand health back, and do a 5k aoe heal.

It takes time, but you have time in a teamfight with the way DS is now. It’s a second health bar that Spectral Walk and Armor easily replenish.

If you time Cleansing Conditions right, you will pretty much full heal with that much healing power.

After your litany of posts, my guess is you play a guardian, and have never actually played a necromancer. There is a reason you don’t see a dagger or axe mh necromancer in tournament play. 900 range is hard enough when you have burst classes hammering you with leaps that cover that range and 1500 range engineers bombing you.

Please don’t post about how op necros are at max range. Any necro who sits in Staff all day is worthless. Staff is used when you can’t get to 900 for S/D and you flip to it for Mark of Blood and Staff 3 then flip back to Scepter for damage. You flip back to staff for utility and it goes on. We can’t spam all of our conditions from 1200 range, we can only hit you with a small bleed and chill. Corrupt boon occasionally, but to really hurt you we have to be 900 or closer so please play a necromancer before talking. We actually do a majority of damage with Wells which have a 900 range cast.

Please don’ talk about WoB as a legitimate heal. There is only one heal we use and it’s CC. WoB is only viable when you can stand still and near your team to get all of the heal. CC is just too good.

I’m not saying anybody gets stomped by a Staff at max range. Learn to read between the lines. Scepter is the problem. Signet of Spite is the problem. If all of that is at 600 to 900 range people can react to Necro.

If you lose range, then WoB becomes more important. They can tune that to make it better. The Staff at max range is a problem because you exert more control over a fight from range with that weapon than anything else anyone can come up with in the game. A 180 radius fear from 1200 range is absolutely ridiculous. Marks can be spammed from 1200 range for condi cleaving downed players. You can be running to another point and spamming the attacks behind you as you run to do that. It’s stupid.

Necro being midranged is balanced. It will not send them to the sewer you will still destroy Guardians, which is always important on any team comp.

Actually, it doesn’t do anything but make the more susceptible to burst that they can’t avoid while also making them do more damage to you. Alot of the skills necro has is actually harder to avoid when he is closer in the fight. Doom is stronger, weakening shroud is stronger and so is mark of blood. Then you have Torment of course which is also 600 range. The thing is, it wouldn’t help you with a range decrease, because alot of good things about necro for bursting involves us getting closer to you. making us locked there when using scepter just means you get bursted faster because we have no reason to stay back. And CC won’t be changed for well of blood because its a strong condi cleanse.

edit: I forgot to mention that playing necromancer would basically extremely difficult after that since they dont have any easy stun breaking blinks like mesmer or elementalist which is mostly compared to because they all are caster classes but these two have the ability to avoid an infinite amount of damage at certain time spans allowing them to escape while the necro (even though he has the new spectral armor) is still vulnerable to all CCs while close. Then necros will just ask for more survivability than they are getting, thus creating the juggernaut necro, unbeatable in 1v1s.

I know this is an sPvP forum, but I have to say this; the fix to DS spilling may not seem big for everyone here, but understand that all the Necromancers who’s fate you are dictating right now in this forum that run PvE are really hurting. Since the class has limited dodging, limited stability, no blocks or invuln or on demand dodges, It is currently having a much harder time in PvE than ever before. Some necros are flat out being told to sit out on fights because they simply die to easily. Understand that what you say here dictates the state of 70-80% of Necromancers. Some that dont even come on this forum because most are frankly just WvWers and PvErs who never look at this. I know that it is possible to split skills, but over traits and mechanics are usually final across the board. Basic idea is if you kill off sustain, you kill off Necros abilities to participate in dungeons even more. I know that the last patch was kind of a ‘buff’ to sustain, but its more of a double edged sword. you have more scaling, but less survivability at the end of rope (1-10% LF) which is time gated by a 10s CD.

Now that I cleared that up, I will say that I agree with most people in saying that Dhuumfire is the main candidate for changes. Most people will always bring up the fact that AOE pressure on necro is high, but honestly it always has been, but it never was something that was too big until the dhuumfire addition, giving a chance to essentially ‘spike’ the main target in the middle of the marks (or in some cases just auto attacks). Not only this, but it builds onto necro to well. It eliminated the actual need of a engie while also almost ‘replacing’ it. They may both be condition classes, but It honestly is silly how this works. Imo, I feel that everyones talk of changing dhuumfire to a different damage condition is good. Torment is an awesome thing to transform it to, or maybe even giving the player a shield that applies torment, similar to the fire aura change that people talked about. That will give players on both sides what they wanted, while eliminating the insanity of fire damage off the class.

If Dhuumfire was a change to a Torment- applying shield, It would need a slight damage reduction (talking maybe only 10% or less), an ICD of atleast one for the application of torment itself , and only 1-2 applications of torment per hit. It would also need a similar duration of maybe 3-6 seconds. How it is applied, however is tough. I honestly thing that it would scale with percentage of hp, being cast and every 25% with an internal cooldown of 20-30s. Maybe even longer. The idea is to make the class still have a reason to dip into Spite as condition, but offer something for power players also if they so choose. It could be made more appealing by making it also give 4% more direct damage per condition on the opponent while the actual shield is active. This way, while its not a full 20% like close to death, its a viable option that can combat that trait on the power front also. The actual shield I feel probably will have to be no longer than 12s. anything higher will be too much.

Besides that, the overall tankiness of necro so far is getting there, while still having problem to focus. I dont think there is much that can be changed outside what was already done to spectral armor on this front without upsetting the balance too much. If the only option to nerf is to take away dhuumfire or nerf terror, however, the obvious first one is a better choice. In terms of actually changing marks, they are pretty much fine and can be dodged by most who watch the hand animation.

So yeah, thats all I guess I will say for now. Please consider my Torment shield for a replacement to dhuumfire, codenamed ‘insanity’ because I dont’ have any fancy names. I can’t say its a perfect solution, but the best solution honestly is just that dhuumfire needs to not exist.
