Buff Sword #3

It is kittening annoying.

Not one fight goes by where I don’t get completely kittened off with it at some point during the fight. It’s pretty challenging to play with at the moment.

Yes I feel like it’s a straightforward change they could make and would be a really nice buff for us. No weird AI issues to worry about in the code, just a projectile that applies a condition and spawns a clone. The code is already basically there, just change a few lines from GS#2

And really calling it a “buff” is not really accurate. I should say change this skill so it actually functions on the level of most other skills in the game.

Buff Sword #3

MSFone.3026

Every now and then I try to use MH sword, and I just can’t stick with it. I hate the stupid pathing issues on #3, I can’t stand it. I know I could learn to work around it, like many other skills we have, but with this one I just don’t like it, it’s too kittenin clunky looking when the clone stumbles out and doesn’t make it to the target.

So with the upcoming patch I want to bump and idea I saw somewhere else: Make sword 3 just like GS 2, a projectile you throw that spawns a clone on the target and cripples them. So you chuck a purple sword, it hits target and cripples them and spawns a clone on them. You can swap places with clone just like before if you want.

This would be an awesome yet reasonable buff. Make the animation and projectile look like whatever you want so there is counter play or whatever (Anet is very selective in how they apply this “principle,” but whatever…).

Edit: Better suggestion from someone below: Make it a ranged teleport to target that immobilizes them and leaves a clone at your starting location. This kind of skill already exists in game with theif and Guardian, ours would be the same except with a clone left behind where we were and an immobilize, which isn’t OP. If it is then make it a projectile that ports you when it hits. After the most recent nerf to sword 3 the vast majority of the time you are instantly swapping anyways, so the whole swap mechanic is just buggy overhead now with no real point.

[Balance] Thief initiative needs a rework

MSFone.3026

So if you interrupt a thief skill do they lose the initiative or not? I’ve seen both answers in this thread now.

If yes, I’d say things are ok with initiative. If no, well it needs to be the other way. Interrupting and immobilizing, i.e., controlling the thief should be the way to beat one. If they are immune to interrupts and can just respam their crap, that sucks.

My understanding was that they lose the initiative. Is this true?

I take CI almost entirely for the immob because as you explain the other extra conditions don’t really do anything. Buffing it would be cool, but I think there are other priorities ahead of buffing a pretty solid trait already.

Any suggestion tho?

Sorry, yes: Increase the durations on the other conditions would be a simple buff that would really improve it, like double them.

Mantra's

MSFone.3026

If I understand the OP correctly, they aren’t asking why don’t we see builds with a full utility bar of mantras, but why so many builds with zero mantras at all. Yes, the reason you don’t see anyone in wvw with a full bar of mantras is, as Ross explained, that it would be horrible. Why you see people running none, I don’t personally understand, but I think some people just can’t get used to them or don’t see how good they can be.

I think there are a number of good builds that use one or two mantras. Here are a couple:

People complain about mesmer’s condi cleanse, but in my build with Harmonious mantras and mender’s purity (6 in Dueling and 2 in Inspiration), I’m clearing 6 conditions every 10 seconds, and recasting the mantra isn’t an issue; I never get stomped by condis. So that is one case where, if you trait for it, the mantra heal can be amazing. Some people hate the recast time. It’s not that hard to do, I’ve never had a problem, even not using stealth. You really don’t get interrupted if you get used to it. The mantra heal is instant once it’s charged, and it has saved me tons of times. If you get caught in a stun without your stun breaker, you still can heal yourself and clear conditions. It’s saved me a bunch in really tight spots getting jumped in wvw.

The heal mantra also synergies really well with any of the on heal rune sets, centaur balthazzar etc.

Mantra of distraction is the only truly instant ranged daze in the game (maybe except some thief stuff), and that makes it powerful. You will not successfully interrupt a heal except on accident without MoD. With MoD you can see the blue, hit your manta, and ruin their day. So, even though it’s not like interrupts win fights or make you OP by any means, if you enjoy a more CC type play style and like the idea of interrupting people, especially if you trait for some nice interrupt bonuses beyond just the control gained from the interrupt, MoD is great.

I’d be very surprised if I ever saw anyone running in wvw with more than two mantras slotted, but one or two can work fine.

1) Move deceptive evasion to illusions line, where it kittening should be. This single change would open up so many great builds. You could do just this one and it would be the best thing for the class without changing anything else. “But then everyone would go 6 in illusions it would be too OP!” No, it would just mean mesmers could actually use their primary mechanic without bending over backwards and making lame sacrifices other classes don’t have to. A mesmer able to have some survivability AND use the class mechanics to their full potential?! GASP, UNTHINKABLE!

I don’t even need to add others, but just in case:

2)Buff Scepter AA: Get rid of clone on third hit and make it add 1 stack of confusion per hit instead. Maybe too OP, so could have it add 1-3 stacks on third hit, in which case speed up AA chain.

3) I’d say buff mantras, like make harmonious mantras baseline or lower down, reduce charge time or something else. Mantras are a class specific mechanic and a large fraction of the players of the class don’t use them, when every mesmer should, or rather, they should synergize well enough and be good enough so every mesmer wants to.

You know I want to use focus, just relying on it for swiftness isn’t working though (for me, not saying others can’t). Say I just used TC in a fight that isn’t in my favor atm, and a second shows up? I’m dead. With perm swiftness though I have a chance to escape, and often I do. It’s just hard to give that up. Conversely if I just used TC and someone runs (by blowing some cds to get distance, say), they escape. With centaur runes only some warriors and thieves escape. That’s all.

Thanks for the input though! Sadly I think I’m going to have to stay hybrid and keep the centaur runes, too used to it at this point. I wish I could like PU, but that’s a whole other discussion. Aside from being boring from a counter play perspective, I guess it’s a trade off between being able to dictate terms in a fight more versus being able to survive more often when you do fight.

I’ve been giving condi a try with undead runes and traited focus as my only real mobility (not counting blink etc.) and I’m not big on it so far. Using focus to catch someone means that when I catch them my main control skill on the weapon set is on cd, which I don’t like. TC is amazing imo for control.

@Fay

I’ve seen you be a big proponent of condi PU builds for roaming and in general. How do you deal with runners and mobility? Are you able to catch anyone, or do you not bother? I like not dying and winning as much as the next guy, but having people escape is really annoying. I feel like I don’t get to choose my fights, only wait until people decide to try to kill me. Is this your experience? I want to run condi because I’ve always liked attrition builds, but this aspect is bumming me out. Or is this just the tradeoff? With power and GS I can catch people, but I also have more counters and lose more often. With condi I win more, but don’t get to chase people down and force fights. Any input would be appreciated.

Would you say untraited focus also solves mobility problems, or only traited? I don’t think I’ll go 4 into inspiration. I noticed you chased that necro, but he decided to turn around and fight; how often are you able to catch a runner that wants to get away?

My main problem with condition builds is the inability to chase. Does focus really handle this issue in your opinion?

Edit: Forgot to say nice vid! Got me stoked to go full condi. But ya I end up successfully chasing down a lot of people, and also escaping a lot myself, due totally to centaur runes right now, not sure I can give up perm swiftness. Harmonious mantras plus mender’s purity makes mantra heal great condi cleanse. Of course with your build I could take torment or balth runes and get sweet aoe on the heals too…

Edit Edit: I’ll try it and let you know how it goes.

I definitely would have caught that necro, and no, you don’t have to trait the focus necessarily to be mobile in WvW. Check Ross Biddle’s Holy Hell build for that. But I find going 4 into inspiration for this build gets you that much extra defensive utility with reflects and regeneration from phantasmal healing.

Added mobility is gained from the staff phase retreat forward trick. Between that, blink and the focus you’re about as mobile as you can be in WvW with mesmer without taking traveler’s runes.

Biggest keys to playing the build are the into the void pull into iWarden and mirror heal for torment application (or burning if you use balthazar runes).

Not to nitpick, but I’m positive that the best mobility is mantra heal with centaur runes, it’s literally permanent swiftness, but I hear you and will try out the above.

What is important about mirror heal for torment? Wouldn’t mantra be better or the same? Actually I guess not since 20 sec cd on torment runes, so no increase in proc rate. Are you taking torment runes for torment on heal or for duration? Do you find duration increase on torment meaningful as a buff to scepter block?

condi mobility in wvw

MSFone.3026

I’ve been happily playing a hybrid CI spec in wvw for a while, and decided to try a straight condi CI build. I run with centaur runes and have gotten real used to perm swiftness. I think losing GS I could still catch runners with pistol and AT to take their swiftness and also escape well, but losing GS and centaur runes… I dunno.

I thought about losing both and taking focus OH, but you still have gaps of 10 sec with no swiftness, and TC is also your only means of stopping a runner (assuming staff). So having relying on TC to catch runners and also to give myself swiftness with 10 sec gaps seems weak.

If I keep centaur runes, which are power, I’m giving up a chunk of condi dmg from rune set, coming in at just under 1400, which seems weak again compared to the 1750ish with undead runes (build is 0/6/6/2/0 so no condi dmg from illusions line).

How do the condi pros deal with this? Would centaur runes in a condi build with ~1400 condi dmg be terrible? I can’t really go back to slow running everywhere and watching people run away from me when I start to win, so I need a solution here because I think overall condi builds are stronger in actual fights, but roaming is all about mobility.

Sadly I think you’ve summed up the sorry state of affairs for mesmers right now, even though you didn’t mean to. Thieves pretty much replace us in most basic combat roles we have, aside from utility with portal, veil or whatever.

Interrupt or control builds can work, check out the Lockdown Mesmer thread, or take a build with at least -/6/6/-/- for the extra charge on MoD and for CI. With those two you can focus on interrupts and actually get some good control and damage at the same time on a single target. But does this actually help your team in PvP, not that much probably. So ya you can make an interrupt focused build for dueling, and some people have some other builds around for a more group oriented interrupt strategy, like one with Imbued Diversion and CI for aoe dazes on diversion. Again, how good this is, I don’t know.

But it is possible to get a really control-y interrupt focused build using CI and have fun with it. Probably still not as good as just playing a thief though, sadly :-(

@Ross While I personally hate the stealth play style on mesmers and don’t use it myself, I don’t hate on others who use PU because yes if you want to win roaming PU is hands down the best option.

But I have to point out, if you are really going to “play to win” then you should reroll to a stronger class. Saying anyone who doesn’t play PU is a scrub is lame (unless I misunderstand you). If that’s how it works we are all scrubs for playing mesmer, clearly not the strongest class right now.

Nice vid btw, most PU vids are super boring to watch but because you use scepter/focus well yours was fun, props on that.

Stigma and balance of Mes, Necro, or Ranger

in Profession Balance

MSFone.3026

The devs care about every single profession, thinking otherwise is absolutely silly. ANet wants the best for this game, and that includes the best balance for every profession, this is not just their job, its what they live and breath all day every day. You can disagree with the changes they make, because they aren’t always right, but saying they specifically dislike certain professions, professions THEY made is just dumb.

Unless these are the same devs from the original GW1 then they didn’t make mesmer, they made a weird purple pet class and called it “mesmer” and they only did that because the mesmer was almost unique to the guild wars series and early on someone somewhere had the good sense to keep the class, at least in name.

Sorry if your friend works at Anet or whatever the reason is for your post, but anyone with any responsibility for their work product at their job knows that they would feel ashamed of the handling of certain classes in this game, as it is almost objectively horrible. The bugs, the clashing between class mechanics and the rest of the game, it’s just honestly pathetic management and results. Someone somewhere doesn’t give a kitten about their job, it’s the only explanation.

It’s fine if you are ok not really playing 75% of the end game content (dungeons, large scale wvw, spvp), i.e., just doing LS etc. and wvw roaming. We have tons of bugs and tons of traits/skills that were nerfed long ago but have since fallen far behind other classes to the point of being very weak. Beyond that at least two of our weapon sets have bugs affecting them that are so bad they are basically unreliable to the point of being unusable (sword main and focus off).

I’m ok having to work twice as hard as the next class to beat them in a fight cause I play for fun more than to win. I’d say anyone sticking mesmer at this point isn’t playing to win as much as playing for fun. If they want o truly play to win they need to reroll.

Life as a mesmer is good if you have a mellow perspective, just play to enjoy the game in a casual way and hope that eventually Anet stops kitten your class. Otherwise, well might as well reroll.

For the love of God, stop nerfing mesmers.

I think mesmers are on an odd position:

The lack of understanding implied by Anet’s handling of the class and the stupidly long list of unaddressed bugs would make me want to kill myself out of shame if I was a Dev at Anet in charge of classes in any way. Literally, not exaggerating. I take my own work very seriously and if this were my work product I would want to kill myself out of shame.

On the other hand, just spec PU and you can run around in WvW pretty much dominating all comers up to maybe 1v3.

So you have a horribly handled class with lots of legitimately frustrated players, but that also still has plenty of people playing at a pretty casual level enjoying themselves just fine and often times roflstomping large numbers of other players. Granted this is not in sPvP, just WvW roaming. I’m not arguing that mesmer’s aren’t getting nerved or anything idiotic like that, just saying that it’s not totally cut and dried that mesmer’s suck, because often, excluding really high level play, you can find a few different specs and that still play perfectly fine and are quite strong.

Personally I play GS/Staff and I still run around feeling very strong having a great time, but then again I’m not trying to hit the max level of competitive play on here. Experiences like mine are an odd match to threads like these, so maybe it makes it a more confusing issue for people to really see how badly mesmers need attention.

People who want it – craft it. They can buy the crystals and do the time. I think there is a reason that A.Net put this armor behind a gate and it has to do with the closeness it has to Ascended gear. Ascended gear has a huge time gate also.

I suppose you would like to change that also?

This game is about skill not gear. What you are thinking is it is about the gear not the skill.

I have a Guardian with basic Exotic armor and green trinkets. I was recently in WvWvW with this character and was able to kill and face off against many players who have Ascended and Legendary weapons. Your point about gear making a difference would be true in any game other than GW1 and GW2.

Dude seriously what is wrong with you? I just explained that Ascended and Legendaries are there for people to grind for, and above I said exactly that nobody here is asking for those time gates to change. Yes I explained that I regularly wreck people in ascended gear without having any myself to point out that WvW is meant to be (basically, maybe not at super high level GvG etc.) readily playable competitively without grinding, similar to sPvP. And similar to sPvP, I’m making the argument that celestial is a basic stat set that should be acquirable on par with other exotic sets.

My point would not at all be true in any other game. Take World of Warcraft for example. Once your character hits max level, you have weeks and maybe months of grinding out gear to get competitive and have a chance at all of beating someone who hit level cap months before you. That situation is the exact opposite of GW, and I’m saying that this celestial grind is more like WoW than the rest of GW.

Your argument about “want it-craft it” would be the same about any stat set Anet made the mistake of doing this to. If we were talking about knights gear and it was only craft able and time gate gated you’d be saying the same nonsense just because you enjoy grinding things.

And how on earth is celestial, a stat allocation, “close to” ascended gear, a net stat total? Is celestial exotic armor close to ascended zerker armor? No, it’s not. As I said, I think exotic celestial may be a slight net stat increase of other exotic sets, but that is a fair trade for the stat concentration you give up. Besides, celestial isn’t some magically OP concept, or it would’t be a basic amulet in sPvP.

Please just stop posting dude, your confusion is painful to see.

So all the people that actually went through the effort of obtaining the “time-gated” materials for Celestial gear end up getting the shaft with this suggestion, it seems.

It would be a slap in the face to those players.
So with that thought I will have to say…

No.

It’s not a “slap in the face” and you don’t get “the shaft” because your reward for readily grinding out the gear was you got to use it until now well people who didn’t grind it didn’t. Plus you didn’t mind it too much or you wouldn’t have. This game is not supposed to be a grind, they put grinds in for people who like doing it. Play how you want, if you like grinding you can. However celestial is a basic stat set in sPvP and shouldn’t be this big a pain to acquire in exotic form.

Anyway, your post is just another “I grind so everyone else should too.” People say “if you want it, work for it.” I do work for it, at my job. Then I take my money and I can spend it on GW to level up a char, drop $10 on gems and deck him out in exotic and then go hand out beat downs in wvw to clowns who think grinding makes them more likely to win, which it doesn’t. It’s what makes gw great, that skill matters more than gear and someone in just exotics from the TP can trash someone in full ascended, and this dumb system with celestial exotics needing to be crafted, which by itself is horrible, and on top of it time gated is not at all in keeping with the spirit of the game. Ascended gear and legendaries are there specifically for you types to enjoy.

And as Big said, I’ve started going through the extremely annoying grind of crafting this stuff myself, and even if it becomes easy to get the day after I finish I won’t mind at all, because it means GW is staying a great game and continuing to improve the experience of players by removing pointless grinds.

If you think 2 pnts here – 3 pnts there actually mean something you are fooling yourself. For power – each pnt increase is one pnt in dmg – say your all your armor is a 10 pnt increase 1890 vs 1900 is not much. That is a 0.5% increase in damage.

Really, I guess math isn’t your strong point at all is it? That is why Celestial armor is not wanted that much – it is too much of a compromise over other armors, especially in PvE. In WvWvW, I prefer PTV armor.

Dude look at what you have typed: Above you say the difference is small so celestial is basically ascended gear, and now you are saying the difference makes people not want it? What is your point? Is it basically ascended, which is good and makes people want it, or is it a crappy compromise so nobody wants it? Or do you just not have a point and are typing confused nonsense instead of just being straight about it: You like to grind and so other people should too.

I pointed out the stat difference between ascended and exotic is basically the same as all other sets, so your first point doesn’t hold water.

Celestial armor is wanted a lot by a plenty of people. It’s a great set for certain ele builds, and I know I can get a stat allotment that suits my build better with celestial than without it, so I want it. I use a celestial amulet in sPvP and it rules; I’d like to do the same in WvW. I didn’t ask for your silly advice about PVT armor (without even mentioning class and build, dur).

As I said you’re pretty much just typing stuff to argue that it should be gated because you ground it out so everyone one else should grind too. But you’re bumping the thread, which is what I want, so go ahead keep typing nonsense. You can see most other people think it’s reasonable to have a standard stat allotment in sPvP readily available in exotic form. Even if they just added it to karma at a temple or WvW badges that would be better.

I’ll just say what is said to all who feel that way: You still get to be special because you were able to have your celestial set before people like me got it. It’s that way with all time-gated stuff. The people who go grind it out asap get to have it sooner than grind averse people who wait until the time gate is removed what, a year later? It’s not a big deal, and exotic gear is not in the same category as legendaries.

They should just take once a day limit off charged quartz, or remove it as an ingredient in the recipes.

I don’t think they plan to. Celestial armor needs to have a specialized build and should be between exotics and Ascended – the difference between exotic celestial trinkets and Ascended one is 2 pnts in each attribute – that is not much. Same with the armor.

So no – it should stay the way it is. Want some do like I did – work for it.

Trinkets aren’t craftable so they aren’t even relevant here, they are just karka shells or whatever laurel item you buy.

And again, you grind-a-holics are absolutely not who this game was made for. Anet and devs said before release and many other times that the whole point of this game was to play what you want without grinding. Yes, that is literally what I want, to play how I want without grinding ever. Yes that makes me a weaker nerd, but I do not find spending time just to spend it fun, it doesn’t increase my entertainment value per dollar, and that is exactly why I play gw. Playing the game is fun, repetitive pointless tasks are not.

Celestial is a basic stat set freely available in sPvP, and so like all other stat sets should be readily available in exotic gear in PvE/WvW. So if you want to flex you “I have tons of time to spend grinding and I like it” muscles to show off, go grind your ascended celestial gear. Win win.

Edit: You’re also wrong on your claim regarding stat differences on armor; it depends on the piece and is percentage based just like other stat sets. If there is a slight overall gain on net stat points thats fine, you’re giving up specialization to get that, doesn’t make celestial gear some intermediate step to ascended, that’s like saying a guy in exotic zerker goes and gets celestial exotic as an upgrade on his way to zerker ascended, dumb. You’re just spouting stuff cause you grind and want others to grind too. Go play wow and you’ll enjoy yourself even more.

Trinkets are craftable – I know, I have crafted them. They are not called Celestial though but they are the same. Example is below.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Charged_Quartz_Orichalcum_Ring

I am not wrong on armor because I have both Celestial and Ascended Celestial armor.

Doesn’t matter you’re still talking out your rear: 2 pts in each attribute on trinket, 1 pt on helm, 3 on chest; it’s percentage based just like other stat sets. It’s completely ridiculous to say the celestial exotic gear is some kind of intermediate step between all exotic gear and all ascended gear, like I said there is no way it’s in between zerker exotic and zerker ascended. So ya grays you grind stuff. That’s still all you’re saying “I grinded and so you should too,” which in this game means nothing.

Having a grind in place for people who like to grind (ascended gear, legendaries) is fine, but celestial is a basic stat set and should not be a grind. The whole thing about “put in the time” or “I wasted my life on this aspect of the game so all others must too” is lame.

They should just take once a day limit off charged quartz, or remove it as an ingredient in the recipes.

What I’m asking and what he is reiterating is not how it’s time gated (the crystals), but why are the stupid time gated crystals still needed in the first place, or why is their creation still time gated.

The point of the OP is: Please make celestial gear no longer time gated and no longer account bound. Or put another way, change how celestial gear is created so that it is no longer time gated or account bound.

Please make (exotic) celestial gear tradable on TP and discoverable in crafting, or just somehow not a giant pain to acquire. It’s been around for a long time, it’s a standard amulet in sPvP and it’s a set usable my many professions.

I think it’s about time (exotic) celestial weapons and armor be more easily obtainable. What’s the logic having a crazy annoying time-gated system making acquiring this basic stat set for exotic gear such a pain?

Depending on the weapon type you can still buy some with Celestial stats like: Crystal Guardian (GS) or Stardust (SB). I’m sure theres more, but I can’t remember the names.

Oh! I didn’t think of that! Thank you!!

Wow, well that is stupid. Thanks for info! Still time gated and aggravating to get I see. It is really dumb that this stat set is so hard to get.

I’m sorry if this information is out there somewhere; I’ve looked diligently and can’t be sure if I have the most current information.

What is the easiest way to obtain exotic celestial weapons and armor? I know at one point it was craft only bind on acquire and a huge pain. Is that still the case, or can you get them simply on TP, or is there any shortcut to crafting with the time gated stuff?

Thanks a bunch!

No drastic overhaul of the skill’s mechanic is necessary. Just make the clone spawn on the target rather than running to it. No cooldown changes, no clone immunity, no ICD prior to iSwap. Just remove the inconsistency of the pathing by turning it into a teleport.

Problem solved.

This.

Silence is one thing they aren’t getting regarding mesmers, so that’s not a problem. Do you want them to fix existing bugs and major problems, or screwing up a skill that works decently? I suppose if you want more things of ours broken and messed with, by all means keep complaining about AT. Just saying, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Address real problems first.

Look at it this way: Is this skill broken, or just not perfect? I’d say it’s not broken, so let’s not ask Anet to start kittening around with it ok? We all know what the likely outcome of that is, a much more broken skill than the basically decent one we have now.

Not that I wouldn’t mind a buff to any of our skills, but really AT is pretty solid. Taken with master of manipulation I don’t find myself really needing a lower cd. A few seconds off the cd won’t really be that huge a buff, and neither would instant cast really.

As it is right now AT is a solid skill, just don’t rely on it for condi cleanse :-). By that I mean even using it solely as an offensive utility I find it very solid.

Like I said, want to buff a skill I use sure I’ll take it, but on the list of things they need to spend time on for our class, this is pretty low down.

I’ve started using it in spvp. Haven’t tried it in wvw yet. With my build I really don’t need mass invis for escapes or whatever, and I think I just forgot about moa. In wvw I’m not so sure, mass invis can really help me and my buddy avoid trouble or get the jump on people.

In spvp though, I really like it so far and I think I’m sticking with moa. So far I have moa’d a lich, which was very satisfying, and other times I basically save it for when a 1v1 becomes a 1v2. Moa the newcomer or moa the first guy I was fighting and switch to newcomer. In that way it’s worked great. I refuse to use it 1v1 unless they pop their elite because it feels too dirty :P. It’s also great when you show up to a team fight in mid or something. Just moa the most annoying guy.

As far as landing it goes, I don’t see it as being much different from landing any skill with a cast time, you just have to pay attention to dodges and/or set it up, for instance land a CI daze and then moa; I’ve had zero problems landing it (as always the disclaimer: this is solo q and I’m not pro ((I’m already “pro” at my real job :P))).

Overall, in spvp, I’m now a convert to moa, I love it. Thanks for opening the discussion, otherwise I might have just stayed with mass invis out of habit!

So in Anets mind Mesmer mobility is a 90 sec cd portal? As many have said before, it really seems that nobody seriously plays this class enough to understand it.

What is “1v1 ranged damage dealer” in a game completely balanced around group combat? Did that phrase come off of some wikipedia page on rpg’s or something?

What are “key utility skills?” Don’t all classes have “key utility skills” that they bring to the table? “Mesmer have utility skills.” Cool guys, way to say nothing at all specific about the class. Necromancers can dodge! Also true, also pointless to say.

What is “misdirection”? Decoy? Hoping you are playing against someone who accidentally targets your clones?

Of all our problems, they think weak condition removal is one of them worth mentioning over others? Condi removal is easy: Take Mender’s and/or heal mantra and cleanse mantra. Go crazy and take harmonious mantras and you will laugh at conditions.

Our class mechanic is fine. As many have also said, here is the best way to “balance” our class: Fix all the bugs so the skills we have actually work. They need to do that and then they can take another stab at pretending to have a clue about what to do with the class.

Also should see what standard utilities are. I’d guess MoDistraction is pretty key (I can’t live without it), not sure what else. I consider Arcane thievery to be a lockdown utility especially when traited; it’s sweet boon removal.

Thanks guys. Btw Jurica I didn’t mention shatter; by hybrid I meant condi and direct dmg. Spec is 0/6/6/2/0 with harmonious mantras and CI (not like I never shatter just not primary source of dmg). Thanks for the tips though, all good stuff. I’ve never tried to seriously pvp with the focus at all.

Hey Mesmers, if any of you have some tips for ruling wvw roaming with a focus I’d love to hear them. I’ve been trying lately to use it. I run hybrid lockdown with GS and Staff usually. For me the staff is an amazing defensive weapon and I just can’t seem to get anywhere with -/focus. I just can’t make it work. This is untraited focus, as my build won’t allow 4 into inspiration.

For example, I can fight a thief with staff, but with focus I have a much harder time.

GS is mandatory for catching runners and I like the ranged dmg so it would be GS and probably scepter/focus, as I like the block with torment, but if for some reason sword pairs a lot better with focus please explain and I could use that.

So if anyone has some cool tips or even better videos of guys killin it with the focus, would you mind posting them? Thanks!
