from my experience they don’t show information until they are ready, so we have still enough time, it’s just an expansion, the fact that we don’t have detailed information about something doesn’t mean it’s not in final stages of development… I still believe it could be released on the GW2 anniversary in August

I know people say that masteries will require normal character XP to level up (together with a mastery points to unlock new level of mastery), but I haven’t seen it in an official statement, I already saw that mastery bar will replace XP bar on lvl 80, but I don’t remember anything about masteries using normal XP, everyone just saying it as a fact, could someone point me to the source of this information?

because it quite doesn’t make sense to level up a gliding mastery by fighting mordrem or level up fractal mastery while not in fractal for example

I would pick focus, because when you want to go scepter, you will most likely go for fresh air and fresh air isn’t very good without a lot of crit which means you will be probably running berserker and that means you need more defense

ok now I understand, thanks… I will maybe try knight amulet with divinity runes and both fire and air sigils, 53% crit (or 58% with eagle runes) could be ok, but with less than 14k hp I will be more vulnerable to condis, but I think I should be able to handle them with cleanses… if it wont be enough I will risk the berserker, but I would like to learn a bit S/F playstyle at first, I was never playing focus much and scepter is my least used main hand from what I remember…

why? what is better while keeping high power and not being 1-shoted by thief? I agree that I have a bit too much vitality, because I use water traits, but I don’t see better option

maybe Valk, Cavalier, Knight… but I prefer high power amulets, because main source of dmg is from air spikes, so I think I wouldn’t utilize celestial that much… and I wont use Berserker, because it’s not fun getting 1-shoted… this way it is more forgiving while still having solid dmg

I’m trying some S/F fresh air variation right now, with more defensive gear… it’s not that bad, sure I have smaller crits due to lower ferocity (177%) and only 34% crit (which is not that bad + you have fury on weapon swap for air spikes), but the power is still very high so dmg is quite good… and for this you get much higher survivability than usual S/X ele so you are no longer a 1 hit thief food…

I’m still wondering about some traits, water and arcane adepts, I’m not sure… maybe vital striking and arcane cooldown? or vigor on crit?

I don’t really understand how can someone use F1-4, it’s just too far to be used too frequently while still moving with WSAD… I also use SHIFT for dodge and pressing F1 and SHIFT at the same time is not very comfortable…

I rather use YXCV for F1-4, heal on G and utilities and elite on my Logitech G300 mouse, pretty cool setting imo…

the only problem is that drawing on the minimap is bound to SHIFT so I can’t do it because I would dodge… or can it be changed? it couldn’t when it was implemented and I haven’t checked it since then…

Possible reclass option?

also your progress is made account wide mostly, except for world completion, fractal level and few other things I probably don’t remember, so you don’t loose so much when creating new character…

we already have a fractal currency, they could just add more usage to it… more skins, infusions etc, so we don’t need to farm until it drop, but until it drop OR until we have enough currency

PS: do you know how long we waited for some solid reward system in SPvP? and I don’t even mention that most people wanted skill based reward system, reward tracks are just a farm in fancy dress… it’s better than nothing and obviously wins give more progress, but sadly wins on higher tier doesn’t, so it doesn’t really matter how good you are, it’s only about win ratio without a context of rating

sadly, you’ve just summed up why I left GW2 long time ago and played only new living world as I was interested in the story direction… I’ve returned on the expansion announce, but as the hype slowly fades out and new information aren’t coming fast enough, I’m again realizing all the problems which made me leave…

problem is that almost everything in this game is AOE, you can’t just add minions AOE resistance like in Diablo or WOW because they would be unkillable…

you could use resistance to just ground targeted AOEs, but you would create another imbalance, because some weapons are just too focused on AOE and minions would become unkillable for them, fixing an unbalance with another unbalance isn’t a good solution imo…

Mesmer have condition cleanse on signet use alone as a IX trait in Chaos, I’m not sure if it would be fair to have condition cleanse + CD reduction in single trait on master level…

but I’m all for it, it could reduce the cantrip meta a bit, ele need more defensive options in other lines, because he is a dead meat without somehow defensive spec

how about scrapping the Geomancers freedom and adding the condition cleanse on signet use instead of it? so you could pick the CD reduction adept, condi cleanse master and written in stone grandmaster… what do you think?

Also, sometimes autorun -> RTL -> autorun no longer works – if you use RTL purely as mobility skill.

this bug annoys me since beta… and it’s not with just autorun, but if you keep holding the movement key, it just stops working after RTL, so you need to release it and push it again…

btw this belongs to the bug forum section, not elementalist…

I was quite excited when they announced the expansion and I started to play the game more, but the excitement slowly fades out and I’m now logging only for a daily… new information just don’t come fast enough… also I would like to know the specializations so I can decide if I change my main so I can level it up before expansion…

I don’t think that main problem of Skyhammer is the cannon… I think it’s all the spots where you can fall, including the cannon platform… so it’s no longer a PvP but a contest who fall first (or get pushed off)

Because you don’t skip anything in the open world….

open world is meant to be open… also you can’t skip the events because you want to kill the boss at the end of event chain, those events have to be finished (not necessarily by you of course, but that’s the point of open world)…

I think that dungeons are pointless unless they don’t allow content skipping and abusing of mechanics like staying in a safe place etc… we don’t need developers to work on more content for dungeon speed runners to skip…

Looking for something tanky that doesn’t look like it’s wearing half a fridge. Which doesn’t seem to exist in this game :|.

almost everything can be tanky, to be honest, I’ve seen a bunker version of every profession in SPvP since the release, I’m just not sure with mesmer, don’t remember… not everything is still viable, but as you talk about PvE, everything can be tanky but in PvE, people usually don’t play very tanky builds, it’s just not worth it…

I think the difference is that the defiance is away for a certain time in which you can cc the boss. That reminds me of Final Fantasy XIII’s staggering mechanic, which I thought was a pretty cool idea.

this was old defiance system, new system triggers predefined effect no matter what CC you use…

I don’t see a point in this… all games have control skills and most of them gives bosses immunity to control to prevent abusing of his mechanics, it’s nothing new… so where is the problem? also on top of this defiance still gives your CC skills some purpose at least, not being completely useless…

PvP and WvW are way more fun than PvE… IMO this game has awful PvE.

interesting is that most other people find PvE in GW2 very good and quite fun compared to other games (and I mean mainly leveling, not end game PvE), but of course it wont make a PvE player from a PvP player who never liked PvE…

Until they further elaborate on specializations I wouldn’t assume anything.

it’s not assuming, it’s logical thinking… specializations are supposed to get new trait line, they are also supposed to be horizontal change, not vertical progression… this directly implies that if they will get new trait line, they must lose one of existing trait lines to have a free space for new one, there is no other option…

to be honest, I understand their opinion… it wouldn’t be worth it to add new race because it would be too much work for too little reward… all the armors, main city, starting zone, personal story… and in the end it wouldn’t add as much gameplay compared to all the effort…

Still doesnt say you cant wield the new wepons outside of the specialization. It only says you unlock them and you unlock a specialization. So nobody knows for sure. Only speculating.

it says quite clearly that the specialization is what unlocks this weapon… so when you are not using the specialization you wont be able to use new weapon… but if you want, you can lie to yourself and be disappointed later…

I still think the same… main story will be covered by personal story (or call it however you want) just like in the main game, but without all the choices and will be locked to HOT owners… and then after the HOT story they will begin the new story somewhere else for everyone without any HOT relation as a prelude for next expansion story, just like with the first and second living story seasons… my opinion…

EDIT: only question is if the HOT story will be released at once as in the main game or it will be covered by more parts added one by one by updates (acting as a LS3)

So even if they take the attunement swaps away from us while in the specialization, i am pretty sure we will still be able to use the sword outside of the specialization , so of course it needs skills for every attunement.

I’m pretty sure new weapons are ONLY for specializations, that’s the reason why they introduce them, because they don’t want to add new content for current classes, they want to separate it a bit and balance it partially spec by spec as they will add more, not everything together…

they would either need to treat the personal stability differently from the shared stack (e.g. give 1 stack to nearby allies and 3 to yourself or something)

I think the main problem is with its AOE, if you use it with its full potential, it’s 5 stacks of stability on quite a short cooldown in master trait… I think it could be too strong if it would be 10 stacks…

I would agree, but what makes me think more about it is that specializations are horizontal change, not vertical progression (this is confirmed fact)… so IF they would keep the attunement swap and just add “something” to it, how would it be comparable to old attunements balance wise? maybe with longer cooldowns? so old ele would be attunement dancer and specialization would be forced to stay longer in attunements, sounds logical, but I can’t imagine any other option…

Pls make Elite a free slot or just remove it

no we aren’t, specialization is getting new elite… the question is how much will specializations be different from their core classes… there is still a possibility that they will be so different it wont be ele anymore just a small class mechanic change would be enough for it as whole ele feel is about 4 attunements…

if the dragon is big enough, I can imagine something like old gods (or something like that) fights from WoW (C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, Iso’rath etc), where you literally enter their body through some part or teleport and kill them from inside by killing the brain or something… does it make sense from GW perspective?

Doubt it it will be a sword – they’d have to make at least 20 new skills for it + specialization.

It will be an off hand. 8 skills is still more than 5 which is what the rest get, but you know…they’ll make it happen ;>

but you forget that with different class mechanic we can talk about totally different number of skills… if they would somehow change the attunement mechanic of ele, he could get weapon swap and access to only few elements with reduced cooldowns as compensation for number of elements, maybe with some bonus for those attunements, many people talk about pyromancer and other counterparts…

on the other hand, other professions could get different mechanic too, I have heard that guardian could get some stances (dps and support stance) which slightly change how his weapon skills behave, this would mean create second version of every weapon skill guardian already have and his spec would be able to use… that’s much more than just 5 more skills on longbow…

you totally ignore that they said specializations will have somehow changed class mechanic, maybe they will really be worth it as it is a major feature of paid expansion, I don’t know why so many people think that 1 new weapon, few utils and 1 trait line would be called major feature…

I don’t say it will happen, but you have to keep it in mind as we weren’t proven otherwise, we know almost nothing about specializations right now

I like your first example, but this doesn’t really need to be done in the map functionality, people can just wait in their base after respawn if they think they would just come in a die instead of turning the tide… and if they think they can turn the tide, it’s ok to let them go… they have a choice…

I think that making a mist form not be able to stomp would just kill that skill… why would anyone pick it? ok you are invulnerable for 3 seconds while doing nothing except moving, dodging and changing attunements… not really worth it over the arcane shield except for stomps imo…
