How do you want to unlock Specializations?

I agree with the personal story quest

but you still have to keep in mind a PvP aspect… will be everyone forced to unlock specialization in PvP or will it be unlocked automatically for the PvP purposes?

New Concept for HoT: Guild Alliances

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

what would alliance offer on top of a guild? because there are already alliances in a form of big guilds, people just switch a guild representation when they want to act in the name of an alliance…

only thing which comes to my mind would be alliance chat, but we don’t really need alliances to have an alliance chat… custom channels would solve it…

on the other hand, if you would introduce some kind of alliance specific content, you would end up with the same state as now… small alliances would cry that they can’t do stuff which requires big alliance…

You’re wrong about the skill type thing. Most skill types come in 5s. Turrets for instance are; Flame turret, Rocket turret, Thumper Turret, Net Turret and Rifle turret and same thing for all classes.

wrong, at least ele have utilities grouped by 4, if you would count heals it would be 5 for some types and 4 for the rest…

4 signets + heal signet
4 glyphs + heal glyph
4 cantrips, no heal
etc…

also not all heals have a skill type, so I think we can’t really count them

The New Defiance(Article)

…I’d like some clarity in what happens to mobs when you deplete their defiance bar….

I believe we’re still balancing the broad-reaching solution but yes, a significant stun will be applied. Pretty sure we’ll be releasing more details through our channels real soon.

Ah, like guard break in Final Fantasy 13 then? Urgh. Nice Drag and Pull system if it`s executed well.
I don`t mind it, as long as it doesn`t become the lynchpin for every encounter

I don’t think it will be core encounter mechanic, but I bet most encounters will be much easier when utilizing this, because you will be able to stop the boss casting some huge spell, or it will give you a time to burn the boss down a bit to shorten/skip the hard phase, it also depends how they implement it in each encounter, if the boss will continue with last spell after stun or just skip it and continue with next one

New Elite Skills + Revenant Legends

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

This means the Revenant is getting 4 Elite skills(1 per Legend), 12 Utility skills(3 per Legend) so far, and 4 Heal skills(1 per Legend).

they can also have more than 3 utilities per legend, so you can switch them, I don’t think there was said anywhere that you wont be able to switch skills… it would also make sense, because they could choose a legend specific class skills or racial skills… the only thing needed would be some UI to set those skills separately for both selected legends

New player

in PvP

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

I don’t think ele is a good choice for a new player, it’s quite hard to start with, also the thief is quite hard… but it depends if you like easy play or you want to play what you want to play regardless of the difficulty

Deathmatch/Conquest

in PvP

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

Deathmatch wouldn’t be so bad if you weren’t potentially randomly tossed into it. If someone creates a build that works for Conquest, that doesn’t mean that it’s designed to work for Deathmatch.

and that’s the point… there are some classes/builds which are just better in conquest than others… why should they shine all the time? point of multiple map modes is to diversify builds and compositions instead of only conquest specific ones… also there is a map vote, the fact that you don’t want to play something doesn’t mean others have the same opinion, deathmatch wouldn’t win the map choice if people wouldn’t like to play it

MaXi.3642

to be honest, it’s not that hard to guess what it does… the more important part is to know WHEN to use CC to get the desired effect in the specific fight… and this can’t be learned from some general tutorial, you will still need to tell those people before the fight

MaXi.3642

I want to ask one thing…

why?

there is a lot of content which can’t be done solo, for example world bosses, fractals, for most players even dungeons (I don’t really count those few HC players who can really solo some dungeons)… why should guilds be any different? you can create a guild with 2 people, why not, but there are things which just can’t be done in 2 people, it doesn’t matter if it’s a dungeon or a boss or something guild related, you just can’t, get over it…

Many of the runes/sigils are drops only and with the horrible state of RNG in the title it’s pretty much behind a pay wall to begin with by having people pay for gems to purchase gold (especially new players).

so now we will call farming of ingame currency a pay wall? I think we have just reached another level of QQing

Anet can you confirm no NPE for Leveling?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MaXi.3642

Even if they don’t totally redesign the system, it at least needs toning down slightly. The prices of traits need reducing by a significant amount, and the tasks need to be relevant to the level you get the traits at, rather hiding them in high level zones.

I don’t agree… price should remain high, it’s not meant to be for beginners, it’s for veterans who want to get it fast and are willing to pay for it… but the tasks MUST be relative to the trait level to make it work, it’s a nonsense to send a player to lvl 30 zone for a trait unlocked on lvl 10

—> Xenon
you don’t understand what I mean… they have their own game engine and programming IN game engine and programming game engine are two different things… you just used some tools from engine, but when engine don’t support something, you have no chance to do it until you implement it into the engine… that’s why they called it new tech, because engine didn’t support that kind of skill before, it’s not meant to be new invention, just GW2 engine update

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MaXi.3642

I love how he calls it “new tech” when all they did was find a way to bind the wall to the player controller (avatar). I mean I’m sure it took some doing, but its not like they split the atom or anything.

you don’t know anything about their game engine so you shouldn’t judge new tech, it could be more work in the engine than it looks like… and I think you don’t know much about programming when you compare it to splitting the atom to trivialize their work…

What Specialization you want revealed next?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

because specialization are based on main class and should include new class machanic, I’m really interested in elementalist because the mechanic must be different enough to make specialization worth it and also similar enough to allow usage of skills from base class… so I’m really curious what will it be and how it will work, because elementalist is quite compliacted in it’s core feature and I think it was a real challenge to come with anything different and similar at the same time

This allows the Tanking role to be more effective and useful to the group.

Forgive me if I’m not all that excited for a return to the trinity system.

Don’t worry Taunt will only force the target to attack the one using it for a couple of seconds, it won’t affect the Threat list, for REAL tanking to work Taunts put the tank on the top of the list. So no trinity is coming and no tanks.

not really, taunt (as in WOW) changes agro only temporarily, so taunt isn’t really mandatory for holy trinity, it’s just a tool to manage situations when tank isn’t able to hold agro on all mobs… on the other hand strict agro system is mandatory for holy trinity… and that doesn’t have anything to do with taunt in any meaning

I really hope these topics about taunt will stop soon, it’s becoming to be boring to read wrong assumptions over and over…

Revenant = Dark Knight

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

I understand why he wants to call Revenant a Knight, people tend to call anyone in heavy armor a Knight… but why Dark Knight? When I see Dark Knight I imagine something like Necromancer in heavy armor or even a Death Knight from WOW, but imo Revenant is more about spirits than a darkness, not all ghosts / legends / spirits are about anything dark imo… so I would rather say a Spirit Knight

Simultaneous taunt and fear

Question about hammer auto attack

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MaXi.3642

MaXi.3642

They don’t cleave because other characters have another weapon on swap, which can cleave. Revenant (like elementalist) don’t have other weapon on swap, so You can’t compare weapons without class mechanic.

ok, how does all engi and ele weapons cleave? I don’t play engi a lot so I’m not sure, but eles attacks usually don’t cleave except for lightning whip and fireball and chain lightning if you count it as a cleave

From what i understood, its autoattack creates a shockwave that travels away from Revenant, increasing in damage. If that is true, it won’t have cleave, but it will be an aoe attack. Still, from the same desciption, it’s likely that its dps will be subpar at close distances.

why you think that skill described in the article was auto attack? or that auto attack will have the new mechanic too?

FUN FACT
quite a long time ago on WOW free servers, taunt used to work in PVP for a while and it worked exactly like taunt in GW2 now sometimes even a bug can invent something new

from one point of view (lore) I agree with people saying it breaks the timeline of lore…

but why are everyone talking only about lore? it would be stupid to cut off the personal story from new characters just because they have new profession from the gameplay point of view…

why are you not complaining about whole personal story? or living story? things which happened in living story breaks the possibilities of personal story too… also how about Charr personal story including Rytlock? should they remove whole personal story from Chars after last episode of living story just because Rytlock is in the Mists and can’t be in their story now? or after he returns, should he be removed from personal story because he is now revenant and revenants didn’t exist in that time? you should stop taking it so seriously, some things are just gameplay based, not everything must be 100% lorewise, that happens when you add new content and move the main story line forward…

Concerns About Unlocking Guild Halls

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

This presents a huge issue for my guild as the whole premise for us is to be casual and just hang (for the most part).

don’t expect to get it for nothing even if it will be possible to build some basic guild hall with gold, it will be probably quite a lot gold, nothing you could make with hanging out with few guild mates imo

I hope it will be guild progression, it will challenge the guild and give the guild new purpose I really like how guild missions did it and I hope guild halls will be next step, but I’m not against low entry level for small guild to allow them to have a small guild hall

we simply won’t get any stronger than we are now. we’ll just get different types of strong.

though the mastery system could be interpreted as “getting stronger”, since there are combat-related masteries.

True, I’m just referring to the potential feeling that we’re getting more options, but not much stronger. It’s more of an rpg-progression feeling I’m referring to, you know, going from a little commoner to a god etc.

Of course I could be wrong and these specializations could make us feel a sense of getting stronger after-all, in which case awesome!

you didn’t read what others tell you? specializations aren’t something what makes you more powerful, they are here to allow for more specializations, are different skills making you more powerful? no… are different trait lines making you more powerful? no… and specialization is exactly the same thing, it changes how your character play, not making it more powerful… got it now?
