Hello,

I’m trying to figure out what a decent build would be for open world and some fractal pug groups.

I want it to be self sufficient in some ways as the perfect team comp isn’t always going to be there.

I see a lot of back and forth regarding builds and gear with no repeatable cohesion in the discussion. I see a lot of discussion on maximizing boon duration recently but not sure that would work in my situation. I looked on Metabattle and it seems to take into account the ideal team comp.

I’m NOT looking to do raids. I’m looking to be useful and survive in open world, HoT zones and pugging fractals. I’m also not a brand new player.

I have no problem with either full zerk or full assassin. But digging through all the posts of builds and gearing leaves me very confused as to what I should run to accomplish my goal. As I said I cannot rely on ideal team composition.

Any idea on a “real world” setup?

There was a video once where I believe Chris (or someone at Anet) took over someone’s account, stripped the gear off & jumped off from the upper level of Divinity’s Reach to the bottom below in front of everyone. It was classic!

With the sheer amount of people that were glitching this, I doubt he has the time to do another video. It would be quite humerus though. Maybe he will surprise us.

I’ve played this game since launch and I can remember every time players were hacking, it was almost always reported, investigated/observed & then a wave of bans happen. It’s not always as fast as we would like, but in the end they have always issued bans to the offending accounts. I applaud this and am looking forward to getting hackers out the game.

With the number of potential people being banned, we might all have to recruit new people to play GW2 so we have people to play with. Or the devs might have to join us in game! LOL

if i up against necros team (more than 1 necro) i will run this . the duration works great as i just hit and run. so their only way to cleanse is with their heal skill (if its not signet). so they cant control the point. so if i decap than job done.

if i up against 2 eles i will take viper or carrion to break their 90% hp (although i was able with the build above to do so)

if i up against zerk team i will take rabid amulet

signet of midnight is optional and can be changed to portal, decoy, well, MI etc…

i will try to put a tutorial with it

also consider its for mid lvl fights and your team must know you run condi

Question…..would this also be effective in WvW for roaming? I’ve played zerk shatter for a very long time while it can be effective, I think perhaps condi might be better with the current meta. Thoughts?

To add on to what Fay has said………I think Anet made it so pretty much all the old “core” classes are lackluster compared to their elite specs. I would imagine this was intentional to make the expansion much more appealing.

Open world I don’t think it matters. But anything else, you will be the weakest link on the team and may have trouble getting groups.

Now with that said, if you want to level your mesmer in preparation of receiving HoT, then that wouldn’t be a bad thing so you’ll be ready to work on elites when you get the expansion.

Wow so Trailblazer is the new Dire?

I’m not the strongest at condi builds but may want to look at Nightmare runes. You have other condi’s like burning and such on staff that will wear your enemies down as well. I always felt that with Perplexity your kinda just like a 1 trick pony. I’m not saying their ineffective. But if I was to run a condi build I’d would all applied condis to hurt.

I like it! In your opinion do you think this build could be used in WvW solo roaming/dueling? Looks like it would rock but wanted to get your opinion.

I think at this point the discussion has gotten way off topic and the responses are now ranging from childish meme’s to threats of quitting the game over this.

Gaile might I suggest it be closed and let CS decide their stance/action on this issue and just let it be done. I don’t think your going to garner any additional constructive discussion on the matter.

I was struggling with the decision to make a post regarding this. I decided to go ahead so people can understand how upsetting this action is from someone who was witness to these activities and how it affected me.

First off I’m not a young player. I am in my 40’s. I am an avid Star Wars fan. I have seen every movie since the franchise began usually on it’s opening or shortly thereafter. It was something I looked forward to, became a close family activity that endured over the years. With the announcement of Star Wars The Force Awakens, the excitement was rekindled all over again. I have eagerly been awaiting it’s release since the announcement. I was very careful to stay clear of any speculation regarding the movie and I wanted to be fully surprised with a clear head of nothing but the anticipation and excitement of another Star Wars movie.

Well things have changed from when Episode 3 premiered and now. Currently I am permanently disabled. As such there are special needs I have in order for me to actually be able to watch this movie. This limited the number of theaters and showtimes I could see. Only a certain number of auditoriums at my local theater are accessible by me. So this time the earliest available time I’m able to go is tomorrow 12/22. This was the earliest time due to my lack of mobility and disabilities which I have no control over. Remember I’m not looking for pity, I want you to understand.

So recently I was in Lion’s Arch doing my thing. I don’t typically have map chat turned off because I usually answer questions for some new players or even ask for help myself in map chat. That’s one great thing about the community is that there are still people who do want to help one another. Well all of a sudden an individual starts spamming in map chat spoilers for the movie and bragged how he saw it opening night and was ruining it for everyone just because he could as he stated. I didn’t want to cause any drama in map chat so I whispered this individual and pleaded to him to stop that I had not seen the movie, was very excited and would really appreciate it if he would not take that away from me. His reply was a key pivotal plot spoiler that pretty much gave me the outcome of the movie. Then he began calling me names so I did in fact block and report him for “verbal abuse”. But the damage was already done. All I had done to avoid any form of speculation or spoiler was ruined in an instant. For the sole purpose to grief people.

With that said I’m still looking forward to seeing the movie tomorrow because it’s another reason for my family to get together as we’ve done for many years regarding the Star Wars trilogy. But that doesn’t diminish what this person took away from me for no reason but to be a troll.

I have faith that CS will determine an adequate punishment for those doing this maliciously. I know the difference in openly discussing the movie and actually trolling in an attempt to cause players grief. The griefers are the players who should be punished. A ban may be too harsh. But a week long map chat ban I think would really teach people that trolling/griefing isn’t acceptable behavior.

My hope is that people will now have a better understanding of why this type of behavior is just plain wrong. Put yourself in another person’s shoes before you judge.

Constant disconnects at world bosses and in WvW. Been working with support but this issue did not start until the release of HoT. A lot of people have been having connectivity issues since the launch.

Your guild seems good but I must admit I’m a little intimidated by your application. I understand some of the questions but others seem more hard core driven such as videos of game play, WvW rank, etc. I’m all about playing at my best, team synergy and fighting till the very end. But your application makes you seem hard core.

A note, please: The moderators continue to report comments to me with questions about their value. I think I covered this, but as a reminder: Someone commenting “I don’t like this” or “I did it and I quit” or “I had lag and it’s your fault” isn’t helpful. Why? Not because that person is being “negative” or because we’re in denial about what they believe is a network issue, but because they are not offering any points of action, any suggestions, anything that helps us with the objective of this thread.

Commenting "Rewards would be improved if you [offered this] or “I’d like to see this event again if you [did that]” is the sort of info we’d very much like to see. Why? Because we want constructive ideas that help us make future events that are fun, meaningful, rewarding, and involving.

There are many, many helpful ideas in this thread, both large and small, new and old. Thank you to those who are contributing in a constructive way.

I think one big part your missing that has been repeated several times is that we shouldn’t have to give the development team constructive ideas on how to fix a seriously broken event. You have the data. You know what has worked in the past from all the very well constructed holiday events, living story, etc. Your asking for us to provide constructive ideas on an event that was so far from the normal “recipe” of past GW2 events that it failed miserably.

This was a simple event for the development team to release compared to the complexity of an expansion such as HoT. What keeps coming to mind is if the development team can’t release a live temporary event not totally broken then why should us as a community have faith that the expansion won’t have grave consequences upon release. While I have realistic expectations coming from a development background, sure there will be unforseen events and some features broken. But for the development team to respond with “have faith you’ll get your rewards in a few days” is very unsettling. Who are they that I should trust so fully with my invaluable time?

I’m not one to demand unreasonable rewards or concessions. At this point I really don’t care if I receive nothing from the event. I do hope that this failed event is addressed with the development team so that another utter failure isn’t released in the future. These are the things that cause people to loose faith in the development team. Something you really don’t want if you want those sales from the expansion.

This type of bug makes me wonder how bad HoT is going to be bugged. I mean if you can’t get a simple 5 day event right, how are we to trust you with a paid expansion? I already dread the days/weeks/months to get those fixed in HoT. This is compounded by the number of bugged traits remaining since the balance patch months ago.

So for a 5 day event it make take several days to see some unknown amount of rewards? I think I’m with the rest of the folk and will skip the events and do something meaningful with my time. Unrewarding temporary content is simply a waste of time.

I’m a semi-serious WvW player in tier 3 looking to make a change. I thought NSP might be a good place as they seem always willing to fight regardless of the odds. I am well versed on the in and outs of WvW so you wouldn’t be training someone new.

Looking for a small-med group that’s not hardcore but serious about improving and being their best.

I can imagine. You guys are getting the shaft too with boring match ups.

So what happens if you accidently select arrow cart instead of flame ram? You just loose the siege? Hope we don’t have many human errors even though we are human.

They don’t have any respect for WvW. On top of it, a glitch with the class warranted an immediate patch fix on NA WvW reset night.

Once again HoD is pitted against SBI and Mag in tier 3. CD has the higher glicko and server rating over HoD yet once again gets an easy match up in tier 4. I don’t understand this. This has happened for weeks now. HoD is constantly beaten into the dirt and it’s getting old.

I would appreciate it if someone can explain to me how this is a possible balanced match up.

For future beta tests I would advise making some changes.
—Make them instantly 80 without having to click the level up rewards in the lower right corner.
—Let people pick the gear they want by individual piece instead of “DPS set” “Condition set”, etc. Most viable setups use a blend of different stats. Not a solid set of one.
—Offer ALL weapons available to that class. I selected mesmer as my class and torch was not one of the weapons provided.

I realize this is a stress test but I feel I need to be able to play without spending over an hour trying to setup my character. It ruined the experience for me and just gave up. Probably not something you want to hear but it’s what happened.

I just feel I should have had to spend 10-15 min max selecting my gear & traits then been out to the battleground. Not on clicking level up rewards and the like.

Hi there!

I recently changed my main to mesmer and found I really enjoy the scepter/focus for weapon set. I play all aspects of the game…PvE, sPvP & WvW. I’ve had no problems in PvE but in sPvP and WvW I die if I get sneezed on while running a fresh air build. I know with time, patience & practice I will improve.

What I’m wondering is there a build you would recommend as a “starter” build that has a little more survivability than fresh air? Any recommendations is appreciated.
