You know…you guys can just avoid the champ train, go away from the commander tags, and explore off the beaten path.

Maybe the game as a whole needs to be tuned up a bit now that megaservers guarantee highly populated maps, but there’s certainly no problem with highly populated maps in general. It’s the content within the maps that weren’t originally designed for such activity, 24/7.

IMO, scaling on all events should be increased if Anet’s algorithm and servers can handle it.

Hehehe, as an Engineer, I just do a happy dance every time I fight a Thief. They’re by far my easiest class to defeat.

Thief does not have strong condi removal…at all! Hide in Shadows is usually all they bring. If you can get 3-4 condis on a Thief, he’ll be down in no time. Also, as an Ele, bait him in if you use dagger. If you’re staff, drop everything on your feet and wait.

If he comes in where you’re already fighting a couple dudes, you’ve just been powerplayed. Inaccurate rotations are what cause that, no amount of class balance (or imbalance) will protect someone from a 3v5, 2v4, or 1v3.

you thought decap was dead?

in PvP

Posted by: Malchior.5042

Malchior.5042

As a decap Engi, the AR rebalance definitely brings the tactic more into line.

Condi classes/builds RIP the turret bunker to PIECES! The only condi removal is healing turret. If you can throw a minor packet of condis on them, force them to panic, and then pop your big condi combo while turret’s on CD, you’ll force them to panic and detonate everything. With all utilities on cooldown, they’re now an easy kill.

It takes more skill to play a good decap now, because you have to mitigate more damage instead of just standing on point, and you have to manage the combo fields, turret cooldowns, and detonates.

Most of the skins i had unlocked via spvp are now gone

Where were these skins when they disappeared? Did you have a slew of skins sitting in your character’s inventory while you played your matches (pre-patch) or were they in the PvP locker?

Everything I had in the locker transferred to the new system IMMEDIATELY when I logged into the Mists. I’m sure you must have noticed all the skin unlock popups on the right of your screen.

If you say you had just for example, Dredge complete set in your INVENTORY, but none of the pieces unlocked in your wardrobe, then we definitely got a bug on our hands.

The more descriptive we can be with our reports. The better chance Anet has to reproduce it and determine a fix.

What did you find you enjoy doing now, OP? I’m kinda lost myself now :/

You know, in most mmos people have to wait a 6 to 12 months between expansions.

In guild wars 2 people are bored when there hasn’t been new content for a few weeks…

So true, oh man this statement hits it directly home!

While it’s really awesome Arenanet has proven they can deliver on the 2-week system, I felt the quality slide a little bit, until we got to the Nightmare Tower and the LA releases. I hope this extended period of time just makes the first Season Two releases as impactful as the Season One finale was.

Also, has there been any research or is there any intent to pursue guilds existing across regional barriers (with China isolated of course…rules and stuff)? NA guilds that can recruit EU server players and vice versa.

Or does it?!

If you have t3 human skin on ascended armor, I bet you can still swap the ascended around characters, but only your other human characters will be able to wear it.

Oh no it makes sense but it’s a little bit sad. I started to work on ascended armor now and i will have to give up cultural T3 on both of my characters :-(

Transmutation splitter.

Well even with that i will still have 2 T3 sets that i can’t use :-)

Uh…why can’t you use the t3? Cuz you want to swap the ascended between characters?

Here’s the thing —- Just because we have the option to swap our entire gearset of ascended between characters doesn’t mean we HAVE to. That’s incredibly tedious, time-consuming, and even cumbersome with bank space. Just swap the full set if you’re taking an alt through high fractals, or doing WvW, otherwise, nothing’s wrong with exotic.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

Malchior.5042

Does anyone know if this means that if I have 2 chars with the same dye unlocked and if I log on to my other chars, every single one of them will get an unid dye? It’s not very clear on that.

No.

You have 2 characters that have that dye unlocked, so the 1 instance of the dye would be saved and applied to all characters on patch day.

The 1 extra dye will be converted to an UNID bottle, and that will only occur once.

There’s been no downloaded update yet.

It’s all speculation. The thing is, if everyone relists those dyes right now, the supply will gradually increase and profit margins will gradually diminish.

The smart investors will hold onto these until after the feature patch, and either cash in on the increased demand or wait even longer as supply dwindles further.

Think of it like a piece of armor.

Even if the armor has a skin, it’s still an item with stats.

So, if you keep multiple sets of armor for their stat purposes, you could still swap the gear freely, no charge, because you have the physical item.

Same would apply with RP gear/hats/backpieces. If it was a physical item with stats (and not one of the only skins items), you can keep it in your inventory and apply it freely as many times as you want FOR THAT CHARACTER.

For all other characters, they’ll use the copy of the skin that exists in the Wardrobe, WITHOUT STATS, to apply to their EXISTING armor, with stats.

And there go the dyes....

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Malchior.5042

Malchior.5042

The video does imply that all dyes currently unlocked will be unlocked for the entire account. But the blog is worded differently. So I’m not sure which is more reliable.

Unless an individual has English as a second language (which is entirely possible for a global game), I see no confusing vocabulary in the sentences.

Parse it out by paragraphs, and you’ll see the difference between the now and the then.

Blog

One of the biggest changes we’re making is that dyes will no longer be unlocked per character but per account instead. When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.

That’s the THEN. That’s what will happen on Patch Day.

Blog

If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account.

This is the part that pertains to the NOW. Note the word “duplicate.” That’s only referring to each additional dye of the same color, which means, the original and/or first dye of that color is saved. Also, see the word “already.” Since it’s the first time a character has logged in on the patch day, there’s no other way that dye could be saved, unless the dye lists of all the characters were merged BEFORE the the duplicates were counted.

Bottom Line: If you unlock it now, before patch day, you WILL have it for ALL characters on Patch Day.

Lanfear’s explanation up above is correct.

“When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.

If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account."

So does this mean, in order for us to make a dye account unlocked, we must buy the color and unlock it, and if we already had it unlocked on individual characters then we get an unidentified dye for each old character locked dye of that color?

So we must once again purchase a single dye of every color we want regardless of how many characters already have it unlocked?

That sucks because last week my brother went for the Charred dye for 90 gold, now it’s gonna be locked to 1 toon when it could have been to all 9 of them.

No, that Charred Dye will be available to all 9 characters on patch day.

Any unlocked dyes within a character’s dye panel are being merged into one account panel. IE – get colors now before prices skyrocket (they already are).

Any duplicate unlocked dyes within character panels will be compensated with 1 UNID dye bottle to a player’s inventory for each duplicate color found.

they could have just made you buy it through the UI like bagslots etc.

it may be that they sell guides like they do unlock books atm, but that doesn’t explain why they specifically mention getting the items in the world and not from a vendor

It’s probably to conserve effort and resources. The trait book item will probably exist on the vendor, so the same item is awarded for completion of the event. It was probably faster to do it this way.

Not really looking forward to that thief trait. They’re a already enough of a pain in the kitten as it is. Now they’re just going to be even more annoying and able to kill more people.
Engineer trait looks interesting though. Though that depends on if turrets get some more love than just a reflect bubble for 4 seconds.

I am kinda happy with the new way of getting traits though. Really looking forward to being able to go do something specific to unlock a trait (even though I’d have to create a 13th character to get to do some of the tasks to unlock the current traits, since all my current won’t get to be able to).

Dude, turret bunkers are viable now! Smart engis will chain the bubbles of their turrets. I could have up to 9 seconds of reflect, and still have a spare utility slot for a kit! (Healing turret, Net Turret, Thumper Turret, Bomb Kit)

thats the requirement for one trait,

Major traits will now be unlocked via traits guides, a new in-game item. Double-clicking on a trait guide will unlock its associated trait. You can find trait guides by completing specific content in the world

the fact that its an item means there will be a drop rate

No, the fact that it’s an item means they can easily attach it to splash rewards (see the UI splash for stomping scarlet, or the bonus award for killing Assault Knights.)

Best profession for a terrible player?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Malchior.5042

Malchior.5042

Let me tell you a little bit about why I suck.

When I first started this game, I made an engineer. Played it up to about 30, I died, a lot. I didn’t understand why there were so many kits that did different things, or how long you were supposed to stay in each kit. So I got rid of all my kits and did all elixirs. That didn’t go very much better at all. Things would get to me quick, and my elixirs would either be on cool down or I’d have to use them all to try to stay alive, meanwhile my 2 pistols were good for gluing someone down or blasting them in the face with fire, but that didn’t do very much damage at all. Hell, you would think if you got shot in the face with fire, you’d pretty much be dead.

So then, I made a Necromancer, got it up to about 25, and realized that putting down wells and kiting someone over them while your pets do all the damage is about as boring as things can get. I didn’t die much, but it just wasn’t super exciting.

So I deleted them both and made a Guardian. I read about everyone saying they’re super defensive and you should never die. Well I died. A lot. I guess I’m just not sure how to maneuver correctly in melee. Because as soon as something punches me, I crumple like wet toilet paper.

Now I’m on a Mesmer, but there’s not much damage and it’s hard for me to stay alive at all. I also have a level 15 Elementalist, but it’s the same problem. I can’t figure out which attunements to use when, and so things just end up running up to me and punching me in the teets.

This is certainly not a troll post, if you played with me for 5minutes, you’d see something you’ve never seen in your life. Someone who sucks at video games apparently. I used to be a pretty decent Resto Druid in WoW, so that either tells you how easy that class/game is, or how different this one is in comparison.

Also, be sure you’re actually applying your trait points in your Hero Panel. You could be missing out on lots of extra key stats that are meant to bridge the gap as you reach the mid-game of the leveling process.

I concur with the player who suggested Warrior. Guardians are easier to play for people who understand the game, its skills, and its animations. Guardians take good timing with blocks and/or knowledge of which boons and skills to use in combination. Would you believe Guardian actually has one of the lowest base health values of any class? It makes up for this with its high usage of boons.

Warrior you’ll be smacking stuff around in whatever way you wish, while still having both high armor and high health. As for melee, NEVER stand still. Seriously, ever. Train your fingers to strafe around every single mob you fight. You’d be surprised how many animations you can just sidestep or weave between combat ranges, instead of having to waste endurance on a dodge.

The fact you actually played several classes already will help you immensely in leveling your Warrior quickly, because now you have a small idea of how the game plays and where things are located in the world. I’m sure you’ll do just fine!

Good luck!

Those level-up restrictions they have in place are likely requirements by KongZhong to guide a player through the different intricacies and systems of Guild Wars 2.

Minor update guys – While Tyler will no longer have an official presence on the forums as an Arenanet developer, he WILL still be working on the game!

LiveSpartan found out this information from yesterday in which Tyler was talking with some people on Ostricheggs’ stream.

LiveSpartan235

I just talked with him on the same stream his contract did expire but Anet hired him to be the QA lead at the outsourced affiliated company so the project is still GW2 from what I understand and hes going to be leading this outsourced QA.

So Tyler actually just got a big promotion – from Embed QA to QA lead

He may not be full PvP anymore, but he’ll be lurking and probably still pop into the player streams and tournaments to crack some jokes and share some good fights!

Maybe Tyler will give a full explanation if he’s allowed and feels so inclined, during today’s Ready Up.

I’m going to take a stab here and guess that we’ll get the release date for the feature patch during the ready-up?

It’s all but certain Powerr knows the current target date, and since it’s his last day you probably don’t want to put him in a position where he would have to stay quiet when he’s not working there anymore.

I’m not sure Anet would care much. NDA is NDA.

Yep. Remember back in the early betas where if you disclosed anything about the game from that period, even after the game’s release, you’d be banned from ANet games for life? At least that’s how I remember it… Could be wrong.

I wonder if thier contracted or full time employees have thier NDAs expire when thier employment ends. And I wonder if a build release date would fall under the language for the NDA. Actually I wonder if an NDA is even legally enforceable after employment ends.

It most certainly is. When you work with just about any kind of company, and you have access to trade secrets and tools, you are allegedly bound for life to protect the secrecy of said secrets and tools. Even if divulging said secrets might get you a brief boost with a competitor, you probably won’t be there long.

Usually, if a competitor sees you rat out one of your previous employers, they’ll judge you as one day potentially doing the same against them. You’re deemed too high risk.

The safe route, is never to burn any bridges and always respect the documents and agreements you signed upon entering a company.

Always remember, in the corporate world and just about anywhere in life – it’s not what you know; it’s who you know. You never know when disrespecting one company or individual will hurt your chances to gain a job elsewhere.

Given I have a friend who works with Arenanet on-site QA, I can say those claims of outsourcing QA to 3rd parties are completely false.

QA is on contract. They work until their contract expires when they take a MANDATORY leave of absence before they’re allowed to apply for a new contract.

I do not know Tyler’s position/choice/time-period within his contract, but this is the way that not only Arenanet does it, but most of the gaming industry handles their QA.

Best of luck on your future plans, Tyler! Be sure to come back for the Feature Patch, so we can throwdown in a new meta!
