This is my charr warrior, Ahkar Pyreforge.
I’ve decided that this surname came about after the first burst of story missions;
Pyre, in honour and remembrance of his fallen warband, and Forge to reflect both his aptitude in creating new ideas (Iron Legion storyline) and his ability to swiftly and skilfully put together a new warband.

When I was playing a dungeon with some people, one of them told me to choose an element to use, since there was already two elementalists (including me). I told him I would use lightning. But this doesn’t make sense. Isn’t the idea that people don’t really have their own “roles” to fill in combat? Why was I assigned to an element? What is the strategy in that? It went against all my instincts to use one element more than others. I feel it’s much more effective to use the skills from all elements.

Thank you so much for posting this, as a beginner game developer I know the pain of people amplifying the problems of the game and ranting on how much it sucks. I would hate to be called “a greedy slimeball” like I’ve seen someone call them. People have the wrong idea that encouraging customers to buy things, in this case, gems, and the game itself, is greedy. I can tell you that creating and improving a game is not done only for personal benefit and gain, but because it’s thrilling to see people love and play the game. Some act as if ANet does not pay enough heed to the players. Why on earth would this be the case? They want to improve the game so that people have a great time playing, more people want to play and to gain profit (which again is not a bad thing). If nobody wanted gain and success, where would we be?
Thank you ANet for your awesomeness and care for the players! If it wasn’t for you, there would be no Guild Wars 2. The hard work that goes into game development is never appreciated nearly as much as it should be.

Draehl, also a good point. Since they are all we talk about, it’s the problems with the game that need fixing that they look to us for.

Boil it down to this… They know if the game is being played less and by how much. If it’s slanting downward enough, then see what’s up in the forums, since you will get a lot of ideas and what’s wrong there. As for forumer’s and non-forumers, forumers are like voters that really vote, so they do get some credit simply by showing up and the silent majority, losses a little by being on the sideline, that is why I think you look at playing metrics, if the numbers are very healthy, you can shrug off the negatvie.

My gut, they have a boat load of things on their list to do, so our feedback to them is about a incomplete game. There is this large list of things coming, that really finishes out GW’s to them, so feedback right now is from an unfinished game. They have the big picture, they know where the game will be, we do not.

To me this game was rushed out, my guess by an entity that controls the money, surprise! Not saying it was a disastrous decision, the game is very playable and can be a lot of fun, but there were a lot of unfinished/rough edges as well and it sounds like we are approaching spring to get things in, I think they wanted to have at release.

Excellent point. That idea has been lingering at the back of my mind and I’ve neglected to get it out.

I think he really means this. Forumers are listened to, they are not ignored.

More casual gamers probably on average do not forum, they just play the game and enjoy it, with a few individually based dislikes.
Therefor, the hardcore gamers are the ones that are important to please. These hardcore gamers are probably in the minority (maybe not, just what I think may be true). But out of this minority, a good percentage of them spend time on the forums. I shall make a graph here of what is going through my mind:

Forums are a minority. They do not represent the majority.

The majority should be considered a tallied consensus of opinions throughout the internet, in real life, and the likes. Forums are always filled to the brim with miserable, poisonous players who almost always have content lacking complaints about anything they can find that didn’t match their standards. So they make threads that decay and poison the views of others in multiple aspects; they usually lack any constructive criticism.

If I’m at all wrong, (as these forums are filled with the biggest bunch of complaining, poetic goons) (It’s worse than the EVE Online forums) I feel bad for the gaming industry, because they’ve begun to cater to a bunch of kittening carebears.

I actually enjoy PvE, I can see I’m in the minority about that though, sadly most others seem to not like PvE that much. I can understand your frustration, though. Playing PvP offers no progression anywhere else, which kind of drives me away from it. Half the time I spend in WvW is running around trying to reach a battle only to be killed along the way. I’m also very bad at PvP. That’s why I like PvE the most. But again, I think you’re right. I think you should be rewarded in WvW from PvP in addition from PvE.

Good point, forums often bring out the bad in the game. I think that’s because everyone already knows what’s good about it, and there is not much discussion opportunity in it. I’m a bit pained to think of people who might take a glance at the forums and decide not to buy the game because of it.
So whoever sees this post, I encourage you to remember the advantages of the game, and bring those to attention, rather than dwell on the issues

Thanks very much But dang that’s a shame to lose a level 21! Don’t blame you though, best to fix problems earlier rather than later. Like I said, it would suck to get to 80 and decide you don’t like the name, hehe.

I don’t have too many issues with loading times, but I have noticed they have gotten longer. It’s not something that you can just go do on a whim, I know, but you could always get a faster hard-drive. My computer is freaking military grade and I have imperfect load times in some cases, but it’s because of my hard-drive.

I’ve been thinking about the idea that some say that forumers do not receive some attention, because they (we) are in the minority. I’ve decided to share my thoughts on this.

It seems to me that us forumers are definitely in the minority. I don’t get the idea from an actual consensus or anything, however, it makes sense, because millions (just to give a number, not sure how much there actually is) of people play guild wars, but it appears that very little people actually forum.

However, even if this is true, this does not mean developers pay little heed to us. Even if we may be the minority, we still well-represent the popular opinion. Popular opinion would of course be measured much more accurately if ideas and preferences were sampled from all of the players. But put simply, we are just a small-ish portion taken from the bar of players and their ideas and opinions.

We are a less accurate sample, but an adequate one.
Maybe I’m wrong about this, but I just thought I’d lay out the idea on the table.
I’d like to hear people’s feedback.

I love asuran dialogue. If you want to hear a bunch of asuras talking trash to each other about their research, look for the tiny messenger golem running around Metrica Province and follow it for a while. It’s hilarious.

Tonn (from my personal story) has a wife. You could tell they really loved each other. They must have some kind of marriage tradition.

Awe… Is it possible to change your name? Or am I going to have to start over? because I don’t want to deal with 80 levels and beyond with even a minor problem, I guess I have a bit of OCD. I wouldn’t mind starting over, he’s only level 4 or something.

I don’t think taking advantage of glitches is a bannable offense. But I’ve never had problems with this, all the important stuff is in personal stories or accessible anyway.

I have created a very simple java program that prints out a random string of letters of the length you want (between 1-20). If you understand java and how to use it in NetBeans or Eclipse or something, I can post the code if you want it’s useful not because it will give you an actual name, but because it might give a cool letter combination which you might want to use in your character name.

Edit: Also, my male Asura mesmer name is Braxx Vractson. It has a last name, but of course I had to add one because Braxx was already taken. So I decided that he had a father named Vract (which name I assumed was also already taken), so he is therefor Braxx Vractson. I know they don’t normally have last names, but is this a fine name for my male Asura?

That would be a pretty cool feature, however, I’m not sure how much work would have to be put into it, and if it was a lot, then I’d rather ANet focus on other things.
Of course, there would also have to be a toggle option for it.
I definitely support speech, dialog choice recognition, or whatever you might want to call it.
I don’t think any of this would happen any time soon at all though.

I think the neck sizes are just fine.

Glyphs and signets are good when you trait for them. However, I just love cantrips, which you can trait for as well. They make me feel invincible. Cleansing Fire is my favorite cantrip. Inflicts burning to enemies and clears a whopping three conditions. The only problem with it is the cooldown time.
The elite skills in my opinion are not that great. I guess the elemental summon and tornado are pretty good.

You could always go and complete Lion’s Arch, not very exciting but its free xp. SpoilerAlso there is a cool pirate cave puzzle thing which is shown by a vista there. It's a very fun puzzle to go through, I loved the atmosphere and mysteriousness of it.

So far I’m just a little bit disappointed with my story, too. My friends and allies are always like, “We’ll hold them off and sacrifice ourselves for you, go ahead and save your own sorry butt!” So then I feel like a coward. You’ve also made me realize that fact that I myself am not the main character. I am the main character’s buddy who is there only for guided support. I wonder if ANet will ever change the story, or if they plan to leave it this way.

I support this suggestion. No reason to bother people by making them wait through more load screens.

So I’m thinking of making a mesmer. I already have an ele and necro, because I like the magical feeling. So if I already have both a necro and an ele, is it a good idea to make a mesmer? What I mean is, is the playstyle different enough from an ele to be worth it? If yes, any recommendations on the race?

Before I had the game, I saw a promotional video about it. In this video I saw four or five figures standing next to each other, ready for action. One of these figures was a small, strange creature… Upon seeing it, I instantly decided to buy the game. My question is, why would you NOT play Asura? They are so unique. They are mentally superior to all the other races. It’s them who built waypoints and gates. They have an attitude which makes up for their lack of size. They fight in words, when they get the chance, just to one-up each other. I am reminded of a motor boat when I see mine swim across the water’s surface. They make the already large world seem even larger.
So I say again… Why not play one?

So it seems that most Asura really hate the Inquest. Is this right? If that’s true, then how does such a hated group get itself into the Asuran government?

I’m an ele, and I haven’t noticed problems like that except for with a head band. I do hope this stuff is fixed, but if ANet decides not to, I’ll be fine. I almost never notice.

I’m new to the Necro profession, Any advice as to what kind of weapons and stuff I should be using? How should I use my skills together?

Would traveling with a large group help? I’m level 60-something, and therefor of course have never been to Orr, but would that be something you can do to avoid annoyance?

How much would you like to bet that his toys end up actually being gadgets created to achieve power and world domination?
Maybe this idea is far out, but I’d like to see what anyone else thinks.
