[Poll] Should the SAB stay permanently?

in Super Adventure Box

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

I don’t mean to be a party pooper, and I see that most people want this to stay, but:
Game Over.
It’s pretty fun, and I like it, but like others have said, it will become old. If it were to stay, the skins you can get from it would become less important to both me and others. Keeping it would be like painting your room with bright rainbow colors for Easter, then keeping it that way even after the holiday has ended (I say all this in pretending that painting is easier than it actually is). This is by no means a realistic analogy, but I think it’s a pretty accurate one

Confused about name change. Help please!

in Players Helping Players

Since the name will become available upon deleting your character, renaming your main should allow you to use that name. I’ve reached this conclusion through reason, not evidence, so please don’t sue me or whatever for giving an incorrect answer

You can try, but I’m pretty sure a name remains “in use” 24 hours after character deletion. At least that’s how it was shortly after launch.

This may also be true.

Is this camera behaviour a feature or a bug? Since it has been ingame for so long now.

I have not played engineer, but I’m pretty sure that is a bug, since it’s not smooth and very annoying. Even if some people lack faith in the competence of ANet developers, they are smart enough not to make a terrible feature like that.

Now that OP mentions it, I realize I feel the same way. It would be awesome to have a map or two with very little civilization, which means less renown hearts, but more secret jumping puzzles and such to compensate for the lack of hearts. Having little waypoints would also help with the wild feel.

Dailies are a punishment to some

Of course I’m no moderator, but let’s all remember not to take advantage of the fact that we are not face-to-face with a person when on the forum. Try not to use sarcasm in a degrading way. Make it your goal to solve a problem, not to prove yourself more correct and more intelligent than your opponent in a conflict.
I disagree with Sky, but I tried to be as respectful as I could in my earlier post.

Sky / OP:

I’m not too sure if this is the driving point of your criticism, but what sort of dailies would you like to see introduced that would help reward you for your chosen playstyle?

This is excellent, this is exactly how I think all people should act.

Dailies are a punishment to some

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

I see your reasoning. The money you have becomes less valuable as other people gain money, and dailies help other people gain money, where you don’t feel like completing dailies.
However, the decrease in your own money is incredibly insignificantly affected. Dailies are a small bump in the road compared to anything else; dailies are not the only way people get money. People make much more money in other ways.
However, if I’m still wrong, what do you think should be done about this problem? Do you think we should completely remove daily rewards? Do you think the rewards should be decreased, or changed? My opinion is that dailies are fine how they are, and it might be game-breaking if they were changed. ANet will continue to add more types of dailies that you can choose to complete, widening the range of players who can complete dailies just by playing how they like, and that includes you.

Bottom line though, good name, I love the extra title stuff, and it sounds very extravagant

I think way points are fine the way they are now. If you are poor, it’s probably because you wasted too much on stuff you don’t need. Spend wisely. If you think it’s too expensive to use a way point, don’t do it. The game is meant to be a challenge. The reason people are able to way point everywhere is because they went through lots of challenges, and made gold/silver from it, so they deserve it.

Racial Advantages and Disadvantages

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

This is an idea that I think others have thought about, but I haven’t seen much discussion on it.
I think it would be interesting to see advantages for different races that make things more realistic. I started thinking about this when I created a Char.
As you know, all races have the same hit-box, speed, etc. This, thinking realistically, doesn’t make as much sense. You could see a tiny Asura running next to a Char, and they both have the same speed. Shouldn’t the Char be more fast, since it’s size is about twenty times larger?
Another thing that doesn’t make sense is that the Asura can swim really fast on the surface. They look like motor boats. It would be a bit more realistic for them to swim more slowly.

So then does all this mean that larger races should run faster and smaller ones should move more slowly? Here’s basically what I think:
Larger races: Run more quickly
Smaller races: Run speed is fine, keep it the same, but decrease the above-surface swim speed.

This at first seems like a disadvantage to smaller races. However, larger races could have disadvantages, such as a larger hit-box, making them a bit more vulnerable to some AoE attacks like Meteor Shower.
There might also be some areas that only small races can enter due to the size of a hole.

The point is that it feels unnatural to me that bigger races (Char and Norn) move the same speed as the smallest one, the Asura. So I’ve always played Asura, because I feel really slow with the other ones.

I also know that this could be hard for ANet to balance. This could cause quite a few major issues, and many people wouldn’t like it, and that’s why I think this will never happen.

But what do you think? If things ended up being perfectly balanced, would this be a good feature? I really want to play a Char or Norn, but I’ve tried three times, and I can’t get myself to like it, because of how slow it feels. If they made them faster, I would like to play them.

Kicked from Arah

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

So I was in a group running Arah for my first time, and when a new part started (Zhaitan showed up), one of my party members got stuck in the previous area due to a bug. He tried to waypoint to our location but it did not work. So he left the party thinking he could come back, and the problem could hopefully be fixed. But when he left, we were all kicked.
As you can imagine this was pretty frustrating, since we had put a couple long hours into this. Then because of a simple bug and a small mistake, we were all punished greatly, and now I will have to run the dungeon all over again.
So I was just wondering if this was an issue that the developers were aware of, and if they intended on fixing this. None of the news looks into upcoming features and changes have even mentioned this problem.
Unless it’s going to be a long time before this issue is fixed, I’m not running this dungeon again until it is, so this doesn’t happen again.

Having profession problems.

in Players Helping Players

MangoMan.3218

All professions play differently, and what some people find fun, others find tedious.

Choosing a profession is a matter of personal taste. Asking others what professions they like to play may give you an impression of what they like in a profession.

What is far more important, however, is what YOU like in a profession. Then, people can give you suggestions about which professions in the game may give you enjoyment.

Agreed. Give some information about what kind of feel you want. For example, do you like a magical feel? Elementalist, mesmer, and necromancer is for you. Thieves are apparently very deadly in close-quarters combat. Rangers can have pets who distract the enemy while you take them down from a distance (or even also close-quarters).

Just pick any server and you will likely be happy. Nobody is going to come here and say that everyone on their server is mean and unhelpful, as those servers don’t exist. Like other games, each server here as a bunch of good apples. Yes a few bad ones exist everywhere, but overall you should be happy wherever you go as long as you pick a server in a world (EU or NA or whatever) that is compatible with your schedule.

I suggest not joining a server based on one single person’s opinion.

What specifically are you looking for that isn’t in the server you are currently on?

This might be the case with all servers, but I’m trying to do the Arah dungeon, but there is nobody around to do it with. I haven’t checked Lion’s Arch yet, but I haven’t seen much people looking for Arah groups there either.

Choosing a profession ( new to the game )

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

I have not played WoW, so I don’t know anything about the classes there. But I can give you some advice based on my experience.

Many say that the Elementalist has a higher learning curve, which means it’s tougher to get the hang of, but is more effective once you learn how to play it right. Its defense is more active, so you have to use defensive skills and healing spells to keep your character alive. Even though this is a bit of a disadvantage, they have almost twice as many skills to utilize in battle, since they have four attunements, each with five skills, instead of two weapons like most other professions, each with five skills.

A mesmer uses clones to confuse the enemy. Clones look just like your character, but as far as I’ve seen, deal no damage. But that’s what phantasms are for. Phantasms deal damage in different ways based on what kind you summon. For example, a phantasmal duelist shoots physical projectiles for combo finishers. Combos work like this: A combo field is put on the ground (or in a sphere in water) by a player, and if a combo finisher is used inside the field, or passes through the field, better effects can take place, such as area healing, or area might, which increases damage. Combos can be used with all classes, not just mesmers.

These are the only professions I have enough experience with to talk about, but I hope this was helpful.

Obviously not an original idea, everybody is thinking about it, and everybody wants it (of course you know this, though). I think this would be an amazing feature, and I would love it. It would be an excellent income provider (as many things would be purchasable through gems, like you said), which is great because I want ANet to grow. ANet’s growth = higher money flow in the economy and more enjoyment to the players. And to those who don’t like the idea of buying things with gems, it’s alright, because of course there would be other methods of payment (karma, etc.).

By the way, I cannot be called biased in favor of in-game-purchases (gem purchases), as I am only 15 and have no source of income except allowance and income from lawn mowing during the summer

Just want to voice some of my opinions, you don’t have to agree with me. I just want to say that ANet is great and they have done a great job on Guild Wars 2. Some points I’d like to make:

ANet is not necessarily greedy. Some say that we are being “herded to the gem store,” for example, because we are unable to forge all five Wintersday toys. But why is this so bad? Yeah, it’s obvious that ANet wants money. Of course they do! Who doesn’t? If we weren’t motivated (I like the word “encouraged” better) as much as we are to buy gems, ANet would have smaller income, meaning a lower-quality game. If you think things are too expensive, then don’t buy it. Missing out on mini slots (or whatever else) is not the end of the world, it’s just a game. Again, wanting money is not necessarily greed.

I like what The Secret World have done with their ‘Voluntary Subscription’. I would pay a monthly fee to get increased access to certain things in-game. This might include removal of DR and the ability to farm for Gem Store items in-game rather than paying.

Also things like extra character slots, extra bank space should come as standard too. There are probably more things you could add too but can’t think off the top of my head.

Adding a voluntary subscription would ruin the idea of the great “one-time payment” that they have used to promote the game. I would not mind though if they added this, I’ve payed for what the game already has, and new, unreachable features do not directly affect me. I do think it would make many players angry, though.
I don’t think things like extra slots should be standardized. They do not directly improve the power of your character, and is associated with your account. I don’t think that would be a smart move. It would result in smaller income. However, you can still technically get it without paying for it. I’m happy with that.

I have not yet needed that preview feature, but I can see how it could be a pain not having that functionality.
Another point: Just remember that the ANet people are the experts, not us.

What has to do the fact that they are the experts, they are so experts that they can take preview away and so experts that i should not say a thing about it…i dont get it.I dont like (many dont like) the remove of preview and as nothing to do with who is expert…

What I mean is that even though they might make some mistakes, they still know what they are doing. Not everything can be done perfectly, especially building games. But we have no experience in actually creating large games like this. We have no idea how to coordinate (proof all over the forums) in order to do this stuff. Again, much work is put into this which we don’t realize. If these guys were not experts, this game would not be here. Therefore, since they are the experts, they know better than us as far as the development of this game goes. Forgive any of my redundance.

ANet does pay heed to players. Why wouldn’t they? Some say that players are being treated disrespectfully. Why in all Earth and Tyria would they treat us that way? There is no point. They want to keep us happy, so we keep coming back to the game.

Yeah, the game has flaws, but ANet wants to fix them. Content updates are made, but I’ve seen someone make a point (I don’t feel like hunting down his name) that bug and problem fixers are a different group than the content team. Even if it was a wise choice (which I don’t think it is), ANet would not have the ability to focus all of their efforts on fixing current issues. It is simply inefficient, and impractical.

It sucks when people do not realize the hard work you’ve put into a game. I’ve read a few Q and A’s with game developers. Almost all of them say that you have to love what you do to be a game developer. I’m a beginning game developer myself, and I agree with that. I think the people at ANet love what they do. They want to bring the best quality game to the players, and they love doing it. Hard work is definitely put into this game, and game developers of the world will never have the correct appreciation shown toward their work.

If you read this, awesome. If you disagree, alright, but please be respectful in providing feedback.

Edit:

LHound made another great point. ANet cannot please everyone.

Ascended gear. I know a lot of people hate it, because it forces you to FotM. But they have said that they don’t like this either, and that they want to make it attainable in other ways, too.

Just was thinking what it would be like if we had voice chat. I think if ANet wanted this feature then it would already be implimented. So why is it not here? Is there some issue we could have with it that I havent thought of?

Active Worlds

Just a quick question, what are the most active worlds I can switch to? I know Tarnished Coast is one of the most active, and I know its an RP world, but I’m not much of an RPer. It’s also a hard one to switch to since it’s often full (I know that that’s measured by the amount of accounts associated with the server, just so people know).
I guess I don’t have to RP if I want to though. So while I wait for an opportunity to get Tarnished Coast, what can I join in the meantime?

Elementalist Roles in Dungeons?

in Players Helping Players

Just so people know:
I didn’t listen to the guy very much. I used all my elements anyway. However, I did use lighting more than others (just while I waited for them to cool down). The dungeon went okay, however, I had to leave early, so I wasn’t able to finish. Nobody seemed to care that I had to leave I was a much less experienced player then. At the time I felt like the toddler following the big boys around because I wanted to be cool like them (by that I mean I felt inferior, and that’s what they thought about me). Luckily I’m up to the 70’s so I think I’ll get taken a little more seriously than before. That was actually my first and only time doing a dungeon (besides FotM, which I did later).
Thanks again for the feedback.
