Ok I went to Dry Top

MangoMan.3218

Have you engaged in any of the living story content for season 2 (other than the instance before earning access to Dry Top)? I’ve not done too much of it myself but I can say that I’ve been there for far more than 2 minutes, and I think season 2 is off to a great start.
I think that there is no good excuse for criticizing (I assume you are criticizing the engagement strength (or lack of) of the content) the content even though you haven’t given it a fair shot. If you want to give feedback, play the content first.
Sorry if that sentence structure is odd and unreadable.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

In my experience getting dye right Requires changing the colors and going Into the Game. This is both necessary for seeing the actual color and for getting a feel for the best setup on new skins. The Current Preview screen is just Too Small, and does not allow Lighting Changes. I see NOTHING to suggest the new Preview screen is any better.

You’re right, I hate this update now that we have to click one more button to confirm our changes. I hate clicking buttons. I just think MMOs should not have buttons.

Please excuse me for that.

New Zerg-oriented Weapons

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

Sure, these ideas could be viable, but only if these “great hammer”-style weapons were implemented so that they are only usable when your group is heavily outnumbered by an enemy group, and so they require strategic use to be effective.

Unfortunately, that is very unlikely, since ANet has stated many times that they don’t want to discourage people from playing together…

…so we end up with zergs, zergs, more zergs, and even more zergs.

If zergs could use them, these new weapons would just make the current ‘numbers-are-all-that-matters’ meta even worse.

You make some good points. These weapons might encourage bigger zergs. For them only to be used when outnumbered might remedy that.

I did hear that they have been working on adding new skills to professions. Perhaps this could be an elite conjure weapon for ele? Or maybe a revamp to Fiery Greatsword? Just throwing ideas out there.

Suicide Button when Downed

in Suggestions

MangoMan.3218

It probably takes less than ten seconds to get downed if you press no buttons. Though I kind of support the idea of a suicide button, lots of people here seem to be exaggerating the time it takes to bleed out.
If you do have 40 seconds to actually wait to get downed, then you for sure have enough time to bandage yourself.

New Zerg-oriented Weapons

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

Hrm…I’m not sure this would be useful enough. Is it intended for one-versus-many, few-versus many, or many-versus-many?

It sounds a lot like a weapon that basically has the same role as elite skills, of causing a large, infrequent disruption. (Some elites more than others; see Tornado, Tome of Wrath, Mass Invisibility, etc.)

This is mostly intended for many-versus-many. Alone, your weapon will do almost no good, since you can rarely place combo fields or perform finishers. You must rely on coordination, placing yourself in the right place to get the benefits of a blast finisher, etc. At times you may need to retreat for a few moments because your skills are recharging, unless you have a standard weapon set that you can swap to.

These weapons might be less practical to use if players don’t learn to use coordination. remember, my example of the great hammer was only a small bite of what I’m thinking.

Players should feel like they have an impact on the battle, laying powerful blast finishers, etc. at the right moment. The same weapon will never have both a finisher and a combo, to help prevent using the weapons outside of a zerg.

Idea for Gem Store Item. Waypoint.

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

That’s a good thought. Here’s an idea:

You can pop a waypoint for your party at your location by using an instant-waypoint consumable that you bought previously from a vendor using karma or gold. party members could go to that waypoint for a larger fee than a usual waypoint. the price for you dropping the waypoint costs more than what party members pay for to warp to that WP.

New Zerg-oriented Weapons

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

You might agree that zerg combat feels dull at times, because you can simply drop combo fields or finishers almost anywhere on the battlefield and get consistent results. It might feel action-packed, but at the same time repetitive.

I suggest bringing out new weapons that improve the combat in zergs, and might be useful in massive boss fights or WvW. Generally, these zerg weapons have large cooldowns, but massive impact on the battle. Imagine the concept of staff for elementalist, but amplified. For example, off the top of my head, I can think of a new weapon called, let’s say, a Great Hammer (we’ve got great swords so why not great hammers). The great hammer’s number 1 skill has an animation and effect as the gravity hammer from Halo. The skill has a large AoE radius, and deals a great deal of damage per target. However, this skill has a 7-second cooldown. Wouldn’t it be fun to run into battle with a big hammer and smash a big group of enemies to death? Of course, this might seem overpowered, but remember the large cooldown. Perhaps you gain self-inflicted vulnerability after each strike for 1 second.

The great hammer’s skill 2 drops a large combo field of some kind. This skill inflicts 4 stacks of vulnerability on foes who walk through it. Of course, this skill also has a large cooldown.

I have some other ideas but I don’t want this thread to get too lengthy. I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination. I feel like I’ve pitched my idea pretty well. Basically, I’m suggesting weapons with skills with large effects in zergs but with large cooldowns. You must be careful with each skill that you use, because if you use them too quickly, you’ll be left with only your auto-attack skill to defend yourself with.

Are these ideas way too forward? Too crazy? What do you guys think?

Small Camera Improvement

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

It’s apparent that the camera control is a bit weird to work with for a lot of people. I don’t normally have a problem with it, but there is one thing that I think would help improve the ease of camera movement. Let me explain my problem first:

Often I want to look up toward the sky to take in my surroundings in the beautiful world of Tyria. However, what happens is the camera sinks, and when the camera hits the ground, it makes an awkward sliding motion toward my character’s head and my character goes mostly transparent, so I have to look through a ghost of an obstacle when I want to look up.

I suggest that instead of the camera sinking to the ground entirely, the camera angle begins to pan up. This way we won’t get some odd sliding motion across the ground and a transparent character.

Why the camera movement hasn’t gotten much attention so far is a mystery to me. Maybe the devs are still brainstorming ideas to make it feel better. Right now the camera only follows the character’s head and that feels awkward at times.

Thoughts?

Is this game still active

Things might feel a bit dead if you’re on an inactive server. I’m on Tarnished Coast, which is really active. There are people in even the more remote locations. I heard Black Gate is a pretty serious world, too.
As for the living story patches every two weeks, the more recent ones seem to have been a bit lacking, but the content in these have been permanent. They’ve been focusing on nice “quality of life” things like LFG tools and improved skill facts, including the more recent trait facts, which give you some nice numbers to look at when waving your mouse over a trait.

Right now the guild I’m in is not growing and it has been decreasing in activity. Each weekend, we have guild activities, but when we try to take on a bounty hunt, it’s a joke. We don’t have enough members to take on the challenge.
So, here I am, looking for a growing and active guild. I mainly enjoy PvE but anything else is fine, too. I’m 16, male, and am relatively experienced in the game with a level 80 elementalist. I’ve also had a bit of experience in PvP with mesmer and ele. I’m looking for a guild to make new friends in the game to hang with for a more enjoyable experience.

Introducing the Chronomancer

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

I also have another suggestion. Currently it’s speculated that sand would regenerate at a preset rate. Since thieves’ initiative recharges the same way, it should recharge differently. It can’t be through dealing damage or going on the offensive, that’s how necros and warriors get their life force. So, instead, perhaps you gain sand when you take damage, or experience moments where you would normally take damage (for example, you gain sand for evading attacks). There could also be weapon and slot skills which help regenerate sand (you might have already given some, I don’t think i’ve looked through all of the skills you’ve mentioned). Blocking attacks also rewards sand.

This could tie in with my previous suggestion about harming yourself by using your skills incorrectly. At this point, players might feel like they are sort of helping out their enemy by attacking chronomancers, since their enemy gains sand from being attacked. However, if the chronomancer fails an attack using continuum shift (such as the enemy evades, blocks, interrupts you, etc.), either stasis or slow is placed on himself. This would hopefully balance out the discouragement of attacking a chronomancer.

Am I making sense? Are my suggestions even good?

My main issue is that Mesmers already have various time and space warping abilities – Arenanet is generally good about separating the various schools of magic to be unique to a certain class. Chronomancer is just too similar to Mesmer to be the kind of unique class Arenanet likes to aim for.

I think your statement is a bit inaccurate. Could you give any examples? The only thing I can think of is the time warp field thing which doubles skill recharge rate, which is just an elite skill so I wouldn’t call that a main mechanic of the class. Any other time and space warping abilities are not the main focus of the profession whereas chronomancers focus on those types of skills and controlling the enemy. Also, if things were to go the way OP says, it’d be a heavy profession, which further adds to its unique qualities and feel.

The above post would take up too much space on the page to quote, so insert quote here I guess.

I agree that this should be a heavy class. Your reasons are pretty solid to me. In addition to that (this has already been addressed, but here it is again), there are already three spellcasters and I think mixing magic with the feel of a heavily armored figure would feel super correct. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

By the way I love that idea of summoning your past self. Actually adds a bit of risk and skill while downed instead of skill-spamming.

Edit:
Here’s a concept idea. What if there could be consequences for doing things wrong with this class? Such as, you can accidentally cause damage or place conditions on yourself if you go beyond the sand limit? Of course this is off the top of my head and this could be implemented in different ways, but it’d make the class feel more advanced. New players would be prompted with a warning that the class is for moderately advanced players before choosing it.

I think this would be a good idea, but of course, it would have to be implemented properly. Perhaps there is a NPC standing by every glider, and you have to pay some karma or something to use it. That way, there is a bit of an expense to using it.
I think one reason people might vote negatively on this suggestion is because they are afraid something could go wrong with a feature this big. However, like I said, if done right, it would be super fun to glide through the air. We have vistas, but we have never actually had the experience of flying above the world and seeing things we may not have seen in a certain way before. It’d bring new life to everything.

Guild "Wall" and Improved Member List

in Suggestions

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

It’s obvious that there needs to be some significant improvements to the pool of guild features. Here’s a couple of ideas that I’ve thought of that I would really like to see implemented into the game.

Guild Wall
Similar to Facebook, a simple Wall which allows you to make posts with other permitted guild members. This way, guild members can chat with each other while not online at the same time or even set up small events. This however would probably not be worth the trouble, since guilds can use services like Skype instead. That’s what my guild does. This in-game system might still have its advantages though, for example, being able to post waypoints, items, etc. in bracket form. By bracket form I mean like this: [(example) Waypoint] or [Major rune of awesomeness]

Improved Guild Member List
Probably a feature both more useful and more easily implemented than Guild Walls, allow users to see the names of all the user’s characters when selected on the guild member list, or maybe along with this feature, add the ability to see a character’s actual account name (as in, MangoMan.3218) while mouse-hovering over their name in guild chat. This way, for larger guilds, player’s identities will be less confusing to remember. Right now, you have to memorize which characters belong to what users (or open up the guild panel to find their name).

Thoughts?

MangoMan.3218

I feel so sorry for the devs. It’s bluntly obvious that you don’t get thank-you’s very often, so, thank you devs at ANet Most people focus on what they don’t like about something and then throw a fit about how it should have been done better, and think that the problem is as bad as ruining something in the game, but nobody ever realizes that they are getting something awesome, and they should enjoy it while it’s here.
Which brings me to this temporary content. People misunderstand what you are trying to do here, too, and ignore the fact that this is all here for now to build a foundation for much more enjoyable things in the future. This foundation will allow for higher-quality permanent content in the future. We just have to be patient (which by the way seems to be a rare virtue around here). I’ve seen it portrayed as “candy” to keep us happy until we eat it up, but that’s a terribly false idea.
Now I’m not going to reply to whoever responds to this post, because I don’t want to argue, I’m just hoping that I am helping to keep things civil and help people realize some things about the decisions you’ve made (ANet devs) and why you’ve made them. Besides, I’ve said all I can say and all that I feel needs to be said.

Only 6 domes ???? why no instanced ??

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

Forgive me for not taking the time to read every single post made so far. This might have already been said.
But, almost all of you are assuming that all 75 people in the arena will be queued up to enter the domes. But, the domes only make up half of what’s there. Down below are more sections which represent different trials the races (or just humans, not sure) have faced, such as Flame Legion, Destroyers, etc. I’m not sure what exactly is to be done down there but I am guessing only about half of the people in the map will be in the queue for the domes. Of course, that makes about 13 minutes of waiting time, but that’s only if you’re in last place for the queue. By the way, I bet you can have some fun fighting monsters in the rest of the arena below while you wait for your turn. I think it’s a fine sacrifice to make to have the opportunity for people to interact with each other by watching people fight in the domes, and laughing as they fall to their deaths when their time runs out. These act as community-based entertainment builders. That’s why they are not instanced.

What are your 3 biggest problems with GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MangoMan.3218

MangoMan.3218

1. Trahearne
2. Huge boring grind to Legendary
3. Transmutation system

I’ll also offer number 4: This isn’t necessarily a problem but sometimes I feel intimidated to enter the game. There are so many things I can do, but most of them feel unrewarding or pointless. I can go explore the world and complete maps, but I don’t feel rewarded for doing that. The only thing I get from completing all the maps are the Gifts of Exploration for the Legendary. Hours and hours of work for a single item.
I could also do PvP, but I don’t feel rewarded for doing that either, since most of the game is PvE or WvW, which are separated from PvP.

All these things bother me, but I still think GW2 is an awesome game. What bothers me more than problems in the game is seeing complaints about how the game is not perfect and therefor the devs at ANet deserve to die in a fiery pit. People complain that suggestions by the community are not being listened to, which is not actually the case. Just because suggestions are made but not instantly addressed does not mean that they were never heard. It takes a huge amount of consideration then planning before implementation of a change.

This is more of a question than a suggestion, since I’m sure ANet has already considered it, but will there ever be a free trial version of the game (perhaps up to level 10 or something)? I have the game, but I have a friend who I would like to show it to, but I cannot, except for on the few occasions where “trial weekends” or whatever you call them pop up. I can wait for another trial weekend thing to come up again, but it’d sure be more convenient to have my friend try out the game sooner. Of course before an actual free trial plan is implemented, we’ll probably have another trial weekend.

steal a skill

This is a very deep question, so many possibilities I can’t think of anything real great, but I’d probably replace Ele’s fire touch with Guard’s GS 5. I can’t remember the name of the skill.
This is off the top of my head, anyway.

Not enough emotes & I don't like them being sold

I’ve never actually noticed that dances are sold in the gem store, but if I were to be in charge of Anet, that’s exactly where I’d put them. People are already getting there generous dose of free content, and there’s no problem with giving players the option to buy some fun emotes. Anet is not taking anything away from anybody by adding things to the gem store. If you don’t want to buy something, don’t buy it. If you don’t like the game, stop playing it. I’m grateful to Anet for providing such an awesome game, which without their existence, I would not otherwise be able to enjoy.

So to summarize, I agree with many of Anet’s actions, since I’m an aspiring “horrible Anet person” which everybody hates for some reason. I do dream of working for Anet someday

They plan to cover Tyria in cheese!
No, just kidding. I’m not sure, but I haven’t seen any tweets or news from Anet, so they probably haven’t told us anything quite yet. Let’s see what others say, though.

Has anybody mapped the SAB yet?

the only real problem I can see is the difficulty of mapping the 3D components.

Not much of an issue for zone 1 but both zone 2 and 3 have heavily 3d components with baubles up top and below sometimes close to each other horizontally but on totally different levels vertically

That issue could be solved by making multiple maps of the same space— One for an upper level and one for a lower level.

If you could, would you join the Inquest?

Not a chance. The inquest steals from others, stealing from someone is like admitting intellectual inferiority to that person!
Screw the inquest and screw Zojja, I shall out inquest the inquest in my rise to prominence!

Good point! The inquest aren’t even smart enough to craft their own inventions. Who would want to join a bunch of Skritt-brained thieves?

sell vs salvage

If it’s money that you want, and not ectos, I would still salvage, as in my eyes, all items that can be sold on the TP may as well be equal to money. I pretty much salvage rares no matter what. Even though I may not always get ectos, the times that I do get ectos make up for it.
