There is a way actually, it’s just not in your face. If you hover over someone in your friends list, it gives you some information. If they don’t add you as a friend, then it only shows a couple details – the account name, (character name if logged in?,) and online status. If they have added you, you can also see the character level and class – there’s more information if you’ve been added by them.
Not that it matters for this case, but at least on the wiki, it doesn’t say that trapper runes can’t be used in pvp – and does mention it in other cases. Can’t get on to check right now though.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Infiltration is the only rune set I could see that does have stealth that a guard could use.
Well, the way it put it, a level 10 character doing a level 5 event would get 7% of whats needed to get to level 6, plus some extra, so I’d agree that it’s probably less than 7% overall for higher level characters – and that percent probably isn’t much lower.
And party buddy, I don’t have the space right now to test it myself with a low level character. You have the right idea with the amounts of exp you’re using, again going off of the wiki – but if you look at the bottom of https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience
it shows that, for the amounts of exp it gives out, the first 15 levels give out more exp than you’d expect. So any character at level 5 or below doing a level 5 event (and getting gold) would gain 7% of 4940 exp, or 345.8.
Agreed with above. I’d usually swap between sw/f + gs, or sw/p, but I never had more trouble with mobs in silverwaste/living story than I had on other classes. As above, last boss in the living story – first time trying it it took me 3 burn phases. Almost every time after that, while trying to get the achivements (which I did solo), it only took 2 burn phases. I helped someone after who ended up having to die at the beginning to avoid rocks, and then I soloed it – took 3 burn phases that time, but it was also set up for 2 people.
If the level of the participant is below or equal to the level of the event, the reward is based off the level of the event.
Again, it was the line right before the part you quoted, straight from the wiki.
Going off of this, say you go to a level 10 event. It gives 7% of the exp a level 10 character needs to level. Anyone at level 10 or below will get that amount, even though for those under level 10, it’s more than 7% of what they need.
For characters above level 10, they get the 7% that a level 10 character would need to level, with additional exp so that it will still help them actually level up.
Once an event is successfully completed, everyone who actively participated will receive experience, karma, and coin. The amount is based on the level of the event, the level of the player, the medal ranking, and whether the event was successful. If the level of the participant is below or equal to the level of the event, the reward is based off the level of the event. A dynamic event rewards 7% of experience required for the next level for players of the same level of the event. If the level is higher than the level of the event, the player will receive the base reward and an additional portion that scales with the difference in level. Keep in mind that level scaling for the area still occurs and the effective level of the player will be likely be one or two levels higher than the event. Participation can be very difficult for players more than a few levels below the event due to level scaling. Players with a difference of 10 or more levels are not able to participate and receive a ranking for the event.
Bolded the line right before what you quoted. That should answer your question.
With megaservers, the only place server matters is for WvW – 3 way server combat. Otherwise, you can play with anyone in your region – as long as all of you are on EU, you can play with them everywhere but WvW guaranteed.
I’m assuming EBG as in Eternal Battlegrounds. I’m not sure offhand what else it would be. For that, if you open up the WvW window (assuming you can, you need at least one character at level 18, I think, before you can see), there will be buttons on the left to travel to WvW maps, and one of those is Eternal Battlegrounds.
Ok, for others reading this, covered whispering and replying, using LA as a hub city, and the two ways to get out of PvP, in case others want to add things.
Whispering you ingame now.
Yeah, it looks like you restarted the episode, and mine that are in that position sometimes have a white star as well. That doesn’t stop you from going back and getting achievements or anything for it, but I can understand why it would annoy you a little.
Sure, but at least you can preview skins and get a decent idea of what you’d want before changing, and as mentioned, transmutation charges are really easy to get. Either map completion, or do a pvp reward track (note that you can go to some of the ‘hotjoin’ servers that are marked for dailies to get those done more easily). I have a few sets of armor that I swap depending on the situation that all have different skins set up, so I change it up a little regardless – plus at least the dyes are free to change.
One of the only annoying things about previewing is that you don’t have so much control over what channels the dyes you preview use. Since dyes can look different depending on the armor you use, sometimes you might end up with an armor skin you like, but then have a hard time finding a dye you like for it.
I find it more likely that either there just weren’t many people in the part of LA you visited, or that you just ended up on a low population instance. The megaserver aspect means that your server doesn’t matter for anything but WvW, so you can find people from any server in your region, even in cities like LA.
Those don’t match the 3rd criteria though – I’m not sure of any that match all 4, I’d have to do some digging through the wiki to have a chance of finding one, if it does exist.
All armor at the same level and rarity have the same stats – just a matter of where you want those to go. As each of those are exotic armor for level 80, it’s only bested by ascended, which is a small increase that requires a lot of time and effort to get (for the armor – the trinkets are much easier to obtain).
So yes, all of those that were listed are equal. Just decide what stat combo you want and go.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
That wiki page shows the different stat combos you can get, as well as where you can get them. For example, exotic berzerker armor can be bought from WvW, one of the karma merchants in Orr, crafted, or from dungeons (Citadel of Flame [CoF], Crucible of Eternity [CoE], or Arah). The trinkets can only be crafted, but since ascended trinkets are easier to get than the armor, all you’d need is to put a little more time in. If you want a different stat, just look on that page.
EDIT: I should note as well that armor bought with karma or in WvW cannot be salvaged. Generally this would only matter if you’re using expensive runes that you eventually want to use in ascended armor, but it’s still something you should keep in mind.
And of course, that you can buy crafted armor from the trading post.

Yeah, those have been going around for a while now – we’ve had some in the past come here asking if it was legitimate, until the warning you highlighted was pointed out to them.
Love how that one actually says to click the address put in. I never paid enough attention to the actual text to see if the older ones did that too.
They aren’t. Use them as quickly as you can click on them – only pause is how long the instructions take getting there.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor
You may want to check out that forum. I’m assuming that you’re on EU, but nothing stops you from playing on an NA server, so it’s good to make that note if post that you’re looking for a guild in addition to/in place of checking out some of the guild recruitment threads.
Keep in mind as well that if you buy the armor from your order, the skin gets put in your wardrobe, so characters in the Vigil can access Order of Whispers armor, and so on, as long as you have a character in that order to buy the armor.
Well, if you enjoy finding everything there is, then by all means continue. It doesn’t take very long to level up, especially compared to other MMOs. The other person may have just been running between points on the map hurrying to unlock them.
Note that you can see gathering nodes on your minimap, so you don’t need to explore a particular space completely to know whether or not resources of that type are there. However, there are lots of things people can miss if they just hurry around gathering exp as quickly as possible – stuff like jumping puzzles, mini dungeons, or even just npcs that might have interesting dialogue.
I wouldn’t say you’re doing anything wrong as long as you’re enjoying it. Even if it takes a little longer than for some, you will still easily get to level 80, and it will probably have been far more fruitful for you than someone who just rushed their first character to 80 looking for what they think of as endgame stuff.
Keep in mind that some things, like skill challenges, are actually locked if you don’t have a character on your account at the requisite level. I believe I remember someone stating that, on a new account, when they tried to use one prior to that it told them to go do other things and come back later.
As long as one character is at the level, even a level 1 character can use them even if you can’t see them on the map – at least, I think that’s how it works now.
If you care at all about achievement points, you get some by going through each race’s personal story. You don’t need to get all 3 parts of it, just taking one of each race through the first few tiers of personal story will cover them.
Need to get to sleep, but thinking on something (for WvW) with this… traiting veil for super speed and double stealth, with confusion on interrupts and dropping chaos storm and other attacks in the enemy zerg… I need to look at it more closely, but some of this sounds rather fun.
I actually just use a regular old mouse and keyboard. WASD are the forward, back, and turn left/right. For strafing I just hold the right mouse button. I use V to dodge and Z for about face, and I don’t really have any problems.
There is a point though – to get an item you need for your legendary. Legendaries, if you make them, do take a lot of time and effort to make, and map completion is just one thing that you need.
If you’re set on making a legendary, you’ll just have to remember that – and I’d second taking Danikat’s suggestion – it’s not like you’ll get all the mats in a day or week, so spread out the times you work on map completion. You can gather mats to either work on your own crafting, or to sell on the tp at the same time, and of course enemies can drop some things you’ll need. It’s not like working toward map completion means you can’t get other stuff at the same time – and it’s easier now that you don’t need to get the WvW maps too.
I tried for a couple hours in January to get below Rata Sum, but outside of using the instance, I was never able to get to the ground. I tried just about every point you can get to going down the sides, but it still caught me each time.
You can still get down there using an instance, like the arcane council. You’ll want to have 2 revive orbs on you if you do, but it’s still possible to make it down the side of Rata Sum without needing the second one.
That’s true, the boosters do stack in duration if you use multiple. The celebration booster (1 hour) also stacks with the birthday booster (24 hours). I used one of each once hoping they would count as two separate boosts, for the WXP.
Utility items will also have, on your boon bar, an icon with a wrench on it after you use them, if that helps to tell them apart. Boosters all have separate icons.
Sometimes you also have people who use different skins for particular weapons or armor – I know I like having a different appearance for each armor set on a single character.
I generally just skin exotic armor or weapons that I’ll be using for a while though, so I don’t spend tons of charges up to that point. I would have suggested using outfits if you hadn’t specifically mentioned weapons though.
I usually just tab to whatever it is I’m going after, though some skills don’t actually require targeting a player like that. Some things, like mesmer sword auto attacks, cleave the area in front of you, so you can tap the key for it without actually having your enemy targeted.
Similar to the last one I posted in, don’t worry about ruining your character. It’s basically impossible to do that. Now, I wouldn’t worry about anything like buying the trait books from your trainer yet – when you get to that point, you’ll be able to see what you can do to unlock them without paying gold and skill points.
Along with that, experiment. See a (heal/utility/elite) skill you can buy and seems interesting? Go for it. It’s good to develop a feel for how things work, and how some skills and traits work together; while you can, as you get to level 80, change to something like a meta build if you wished, nothing can replace experience, and some of that comes with experimentation.
Otherwise, I second everything Garambola said.
EDIT: Oh, and learn to dodge if you haven’t already. Active defenses, including dodging, are huge in this game.
Keep in mind that’s it’s basically impossible to mess up your character.
You’ll be able to get tons of skill points – when you hit 80, each level up will give you a skill point, there are scrolls you can get that provide more, and enough challenges on the world to cover all your skills and more.
You’ll be able to get all the traits, though I’d suggest trying to unlock some of them for now, since you’re new. When you hit 30 and can see your trait panel, there will be a telescope icon on all the ones you don’t own yet. Doing the task on that will unlock the trait, or if you don’t want to, you can buy it from your trainer in the way you bought some already.
Also, for traits – you can reset them for free anytime you’re not in combat. So when you do get them, feel free to experiment. There are meta builds for different things, but it’s important to develop a feel for what options you have and how they work together, and being able to freely change them is a big help with that.
As for gear – stats are determined by rarity and level. Exotics (orange) gear will have you set for a long time. There is technically one that’s better, but it’s a small increase and requires a serious investment, so it’s generally suggested to wait until you know the game well and what builds you want. Exotic gear isn’t hard to get either. You can even get multiple sets and swap them outside of combat, to change builds further – the characters I play often have a few sets of armor that I swap between depending on what I’m doing.
So basically, don’t worry about ruining your character.
Personally I just click away from whatever it is I have targeted. I also have auto-targeting off, so I can control it more easily.
Keep in mind as well that transmutation charges are not only available from the gem store. You’ll often get them from doing map completion (including cities), can get them from one of the items for logging in, and also from pvp.
Ask the people in WvW – in my experience, people who send out the Join Us in Teamspeak messages generally add the server address, and if they don’t for some reason, or you miss it, they should tell you if you ask. Keep in mind that, after joining, you’ll probably need to let them know that you’re there, and what name you chose, so they can validate you, or add you to a channel group.
It tells you on the top right of each post enough of an idea how long ago it was posted. It only gets vague once months have passed. It also requires people to check that, yes, they want to post on a thread that’s had at least 7 days since the last one. That should be enough to get people to look at the date.
You can still look at TTS if you want – the hour after reset is the time they set for NA time. They’ve got a couple other times they run it though.
Oh, and almost forgot – I want to say your steal skill (F1) also warps you towards your enemy even if you’re not in range, though can’t check right now. If so, that’s another warp you can use, if you target something out of range. And yeah, thieves can be really fast.
Keep in mind, with those, you can turn off auto-targeting in options. It’s actually really helpful to do that for most classes with movement skills.
You can also use sword 2 for some more movement, though it’s trickier to use properly. Target something that’s in the direction you want to move, but too far away to hit, and use sword 2 – it’ll move you in that direction. You also have shadowstep – one of your utility skills.
Finally, though it’s understandable if you don’t have this/don’t want to set traits for this, but one trait, in the third line, I think? gives you a couple seconds swiftness on dodging.
On NA, TTS is the main one I know of, and they have a few set times they run it, including most (I don’t think it was all) days 1 hour after reset. You also want to be in Teamspeak at least half an hour before, when they’re setting up the map they’ll be on, reflect/condi teams, and splitting classes between them.
As long as you pay attention to TS, you’ll likely be fine. I’ve joined them 3 times now – the second one failed with some problem that came up on one wurm, but other than that it went well. Their website is http://ttsgamers.com/
Hey, Deatrich, you have an invite now. I’m also on Ferg’s Crossing as well, and spend some time in WvW myself, though the only time I typically set aside just for it is on reset night.
And again, time for a bump. We do have guild missions going on in about 6 hours, 11:30 PM EST, should others want to join in.
I had one in the 20s from before that, which I started leveling again in September to 80. He had all the traits (with the obvious exception of the XIII ones) already unlocked, so no. It was all characters that previously existed.
It’s… kind of scary how close that survey came for me. I’ve long had all classes at 80 now, but mesmer has been my main through almost all of that, which took the top. Thief was higher than I’d think, but guard and ele were right below that. Warrior and ranger were at the bottom, and they were the last 2 I leveled – and play the least, I think.
The race was a little further off. I do love the asura though, and they took the top. Charr and norn were a bit higher than I’d expect though. Still, not bad, for me at least.
Fastest way would be to get extremely lucky as a drop, followed by throwing a few rares/exotics in the mf and getting almost as lucky. The only current reliable method is farming gold for it.
However, if you’re willing to wait for the expansion (perhaps farming gold, or throwing a few rares into the mf in the meantime), you will be able to obtain it through collections – we just don’t know exactly how difficult or time-consuming it will be.
I may have to check on one of mine if it actually points to that portal. Still, the content pointer, short of a glitch with the story, was the only thing I could think of.
And with EotM, if you care about WvW, you can also get a lot of Wxp. One of the only downsides to it is that it can get old, but it is really good for leveling. Looks like you’ve been around long enough to have leveled at least one character exploring the world and such, so I can understand looking for a quick way now.
What’s telling you to go there? I don’t remember anything in the personal story that takes you there for a while longer, and the only other thing that comes to mind is if the content guide is screwing up. I started to think it might have something to do with a trait, but then remembered you shouldn’t see those yet.
I am glad to see you’re still around – I didn’t post in the old thread, but months ago I printed off the sheet music. I remember the version transposed into C Major as well, and started with that on a keyboard. Definitely prefer the normal one though, and I’ve been practicing it more recently on a new keyboard I got (with weighted keys and everything!). I’m starting to get decent at it.
