Actually, the pictures under crafting indicate that you can make it through that. From there, just a search for the insignia or inscription will give you the information you need.

It takes a different ingredient from some others because it was introduced with story content – though the watchwork sprockets aren’t as easily obtained anymore. A couple options for them, if you don’t want to buy from the tp, are:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Sprockets
You can mine this once a day, as other home instance nodes, and can be obtained relatively easily ingame through the laurel vendor. It will be slow if it’s your only method of gaining them though. It also has a chance of dropping blade shards, if you decide to try for a blade spinal pack, but that will also take time.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Watchwork_Mining_Pick
This is a much faster way – equip, and mine everything you see. However, it also means spending 1000 gems. It was also an item that induced some outrage as it is a rare example of a gem store item being better than the options ingame (or even the other gem store picks) by virtue of dropping sprockets.
I always grabbed the one that was up the first ramp on the left. That one I’ve had to shoot with a nearly full bar – it was like that shortly after launch for me, and then a few days ago when I brought my 9th through.
Since you’re only going to be able to get one legendary per character (with this new mastery), and the amount of work put into it might be more than earning gold towards a precursor now. I plan on eventually getting as many legendaries as I can, so I’ll either have to get it dropped or by another precursor.
As I understand it, you will be able to get one of each current precursors via quest.
Correct, but you can only choose one of those per character. So you can’t go for Quip and Incinerator on your thief. You’ll have to go for one or the other. That of course is not to stop you from going for that precursor on your other characters, but because the process is not as easy/OP as people think, the precursor prices won’t be as dramatic as some are expecting.
This is assuming there isn’t anything more recent, but I haven’t heard of anything about this since.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-legendary-journey/
This crafting system is an account-based activity, which means you’ll only be able to craft each precursor this way once. However, all of the currently existing precursor acquisition methods will remain intact in addition to this new acquisition method. That means that if you want a particular precursor more than once, you’ll have to fall back to the original methods of acquisition.
Sure sounds like we’ll be able to make each precursor on a single character, just can’t make each one this way multiple times.
If you have a newer source, by all means, post it.
Most of the time these days I go there 5-10 minutes prior, and it usually succeeds. I have had times though where we had to fight to get people on defense – it seemed like a fair number of people were afk, and others just ignored those of us who were trying to fill defenses.
I was trying to get people on south hills, and just before teq started I finally had 2 more people join, for 4. One person didn’t actually do anything before running off, and after a few minutes, the third person who joined gave up – they said it was too hard, and ran back into the zerg. Meanwhile we still had people in the area, spawning champs – and meanwhile the west side was having some trouble. Predictably, we lost the fight, and people started screaming about how they had never seen Teq fail, and how miserable we all were. I got to that map about 20 minutes before the event started.
I can agree with some people just wanting to stick to the zerg where, some would say, they don’t have to think as much. Then, when you’re struggling, sometimes you’ll have people who think it’s too hard and they should run back to the zerg where they’re comfortable – even though that makes it harder for the rest of the people still on defense, when we need more, not less – and they don’t seem to listen and realize that, if no one puts in the effort, no one’s going to get the reward they’re spending at least 15-20 minutes for.
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/achievements
As of this posting, the highest was 28436.
Keeping in mind the pinnacle weapons, whose skins aren’t open until 29000:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pinnacle_weapon_skins
I don’t think you’ll have to worry about hitting a global cap anytime soon. Just that some, in the process, will have caps as AdaephonDelat said.
Well, in any non-city map, there should be a chance you get either a transmutation charge, or a black lion key – you won’t get both, and the key is worth a bit more. You can go for the cities though for a guaranteed charge.
If you don’t have any more maps to complete, or space for newly created characters to complete them, or just want them faster, jump into pvp – just about any reward track will give you some, and you can jump into a room made for dailies if you don’t want to go into an (un)ranked match.
It’s been a while since I made any, but did you try throwing the items for it into the discovery tab? Just need the reagents from the vendor and the +1’s or higher.
I get drops rarely – think the last one was a week or so ago, but I can’t remember the last one before that. That’s RNG for you – higher MF, like others have said, will make it more likely, but they don’t drop often, regardless of what MF you have.
Transmutation charges that you can put in the bank, as below
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation_Charge_
need to be used before they will be added to your currencies. They do nothing in the bank – so just take them out, double click them, and they will be added to the others, which the game pulls from when changing skins.
So yes, you have 41.
Don’t forget, if you build up more ectos than you need for this while low on dust – you can salvage the ectos for crystalline dust. It was handy in my case, since I often have a lot of ectos hiding away, and needed 3 stacks of t6 dust for Bifrost.
^Agreed.
You’re only forced to play how they wish if you refuse to create your own party and insist on joining one of their groups. Instead of forcing them to play how you want to, advertise on LFG with the playstyle you want to use, and get like-minded people to join. It’s not impossible, and when I go for groups that way they fill up reasonably quickly.
Domination also has a fun greatsword trait for cripple and might, but the other 2 gm traits are pretty nice too – if you plan on using your f1 shatter much or trying out interrupts.
But yeah, check the mesmer forum for more specific things.
The wiki states that it’s similar to the Call of the Wild animation, so I would guess that you do get the buffs. Runes with similar wording, like Altruism, say nearby allies but do, in my experience, work for you.
I don’t have a character with pack runes to test specifically though.
1. Those numbers tell you what bonuses you get for having multiple runes of the same type. So for this rune:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Adventurer
If you have 1 equipped you get the 25 condition damage. If you equip a second one, you also get 35 power. As you add more of them, you’ll add bonuses further down the list. You only get the (6) if you have 6 of those runes set. 5 runes will add everything up to the last one.
2. Most of the items you’ll want to craft need the discovery panel. So, for the dagger, you’ll want to make a dagger hilt and a dagger blade, and then make an inscription – the inscription determines what stats the weapon will give. Once you have all 3, if you haven’t made it before, switch to the discovery tab (first tab), and add the hilt, blade, and inscription. (May need to purchase inscription recipes from the master craftsman.)
Every crafting discipline works the same way – weapons and armor especially follow the same formula. Jeweler is very similar, but chef is a lot more interesting. Just take care with chef since the intermediary items don’t go into material storage.
3. Generally, I use a basic or copper-fed salvage kit for anything below yellow/rare (for which I use a better salvage kit if they’re level 68 or higher only). I’m sure some could tell you better – for example, light armor green/masterwork items, I’ve heard you should use a better salvage kit for more silk, but that probably matters more over a long period of time.
I use a master’s/mystic salvage kit on rare and exotic items level 68 or higher, and save black lion salvage kits for runes or sigils that I really want – sometimes, high level exotics sell well because of the rune or sigil, so you can, in those cases, get more out of it by salvaging and then selling the rune/sigil.
No, sorry – no offense taken, though after rereading my post I can see how one would think so. I was just saying that because it struck me as unusual for someone to ask for people to help found a guild like that. And like I said, this thread is a bit unusual too – if it were in the lfg forum specifically for recruiting people to this guild, I would be offended, but it’s different in this one.
The only other thing was that our EU side isn’t as active as it used to be, as far as I’m aware – though people on EU could also be more active when I’m not. I didn’t want to invite you without letting you know that much. For now, we also only have enough people for things like Guild Missions on the NA side – we’ll see how that goes after HoT hits though.
Still, since you can be in multiple guilds, and we have no rep requirement, if you find you like it with us, you can always stay part of the guild at the same time you try for another one. While you can’t play with the people on NA, you can still chat with us – so feel free to jump into guild chat, whether it’s random comments, joining in with a ridiculous discussion, or asking/answering questions.
Sorry, been kept busy this weekend, but can have that to you shortly.
As for the thread being for making friends – founding a new guild is a bit more involved. This one started in the original Operation Union thread not long after launch, and was originally a place for people to find others to run dungeons with, before the lfg panel was brought in and before sites like gw2lfg were really used. It kind of morphed into a guild after that and continued on.
I said that you probably won’t find others in the guild for founding a new one, in part because they wouldn’t really know you yet, in part because you haven’t said anything about what kind of guild you want to make, and also many of the people in the guild are more casual players – and then those who aren’t are also not likely to want to put in the work to start up a new guild, given the above points.
For the most part, guilds on the forums are found in
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor
(Keep in mind, you’d want to add details like region – in your case, EU)
This guild is an unusual one in that regard, again going off of what I said before about the original thread starting differently and morphing into a guild. And while this thread is unusual, people would rightfully be offended if you tried to recruit/get people to help found in the middle of a thread they created for their guild – saying that just in case you decide to post there.
If you decide to stick with trying to found that guild, and plan on using the forums (though it helps otherwise too), I suggest trying to get a clear idea of what kind of guild you want to create – do you want something focused on WvW, in which case you would want to take people only on your server? Or maybe you want to start one centered around dungeons? Perhaps a social guild that goes for whatever members want at the time? When you start to recruit people who aren’t, say, real life friends, having a strong sense of what the guild is for, while not a requirement exactly, would be beneficial. But if you want to work toward that, I wish you luck.
Joel, I’m not sure if you’re wanting an invite – we don’t have as many people on EU as we used to though, and if you’re looking for someone to help with the founding, I’m honestly not so sure you’ll find someone in the guild for that.
Bex, we don’t have a rep requirement, so that’s fine. A lot of the people in the guild are more casual players, but there are still some who have experience in dungeons and fractals. For WvW, we’re cross-server, but most are likely still on Tarnished Coast – while I believe we do have some on Ehmry Bay, it would probably be a small number. Still, invite will be sent to you in a few minutes.
You also now have the option to make it as another, and then make an exotic Verata’s insignia/inscription and throw it into the mystic forge.
It hasn’t been like that in over a year though. With the last system, you started at level 30 – sure, it’s not starting at level 11, but it’s better than what we’ve had. You can actually get traits while leveling again, instead of having to spend skill points and gold (that new players won’t have), or search for events (or some things like, when it launched, map completion in a 70-80 zone for an adept), and in some cases, hope they’ll be up so you can actually earn it.
You get hero points by leveling up as well – and you get those retroactively. You do not lose points for being level 30 at the time of the patch, or any other level. Otherwise, level 80 characters would be out completely, but they’ve all got enough to unlock everything the system didn’t already unlock.
Now, from what I hear, it sounds like some have ended up with a negative hero point balance – something about it unlocking things in the attempt to replicate your old build that doesn’t always work out like it should, and going further than you should be able to. You don’t need to run to hero challenges to build hero points up – just level up and you will start getting them (after, again from what I’ve gathered, you get past the negative balance).
Considering how easy it can be to level up, I’d suggest just doing that rather than making a new character, or try contacting support in the meantime. I don’t know if that’ll help, but it might be worth a shot. Just keep in mind that your character, in the long term, hasn’t been broken – just that until you level up or do enough challenges, it won’t have the traits you might want exactly. But it’ll still take less time to do that than to remake it completely.
You will keep that level – however, when you change crafting disciplines, you have to pay up to 50 silver, depending on the level. If you change to one you haven’t leveled up, it will be free, but every level increases the cost by 10 copper (up to 40 silver at 400, or 50 silver at 500).
That’s why it’s been suggested to have 4 characters that each have 2 disciplines. For now, that covers all 8 of them, and you don’t have to pay to keep switching. You’re not really missing anything that way, since just about everything you’d want to craft for other characters is account bound at worst.
This was on Reddit – and yes, it’s a bug with guardian symbols, but some of you may find it funny.
And, on top of that, games depreciate. Of course games, when new, will usually cost a lot. But how many games, after 3 years of being out, don’t go down in price?
Also, you’re a bit late. When originally unveiled, veteran accounts didn’t get anything more than the expansion for the same price. There was an uproar about that and it got changed to add a character slot, which, as lordkrall pointed out, has the same cost that the game has had multiple times. The complaints then I could understand – this one has no justification that I can see.
With the changes, sometimes triple trouble wurm decaps were happening with 7 minutes left, and Teq in a pug map would beat the records of organized guild attempts. So just doubling the health probably wouldn’t have much of an impact in most cases – and with the crit chance being enabled? I agree with Celtic, this change probably won’t change much.
I’m noticing that consecrations used underwater (I know, underwater) are also still ground targeted, and I can’t recall anything like that in the past. Does that sound right at all?
This isn’t new at all. On the off chance you didn’t see it, look at the bottom of the message. That will be a giveaway on just about anything fake you could receive.
Slight clarification – when Seera says NA servers can’t talk with EU servers, it doesn’t mean that you can’t chat with them. You just can’t join the same map instance, which is kind of important for map completion. But otherwise, yeah, WvW doesn’t matter anymore, so region is the only thing that matters for map completion parties.
Just in case you or someone else reading misunderstands what Seera said.
I think there was a page on the wiki that covers things like this, but I don’t remember for sure.
In the meantime…
2/5 – when you see that, it’s probably the party size, as in 2 people, space for 3.
self invite – when you right click on someone’s name, if they’re in a party, it should give Join Party as an option, and then they accept. People join parties during farming events and the like to make it easier to tag things for loot.
lfg – looking for group. These people are not in a party, and want to join one for better tagging and loot.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Abbreviations has some more that might help, but it still might not cover everything that you’d run into, and I’m probably too used to the language ingame that it doesn’t come to mind right now.
It’s a cycle – you start again at the first login reward, and can continue to get the chest of loyalty every 28 days you log in.
And if not, you can try posting in the lfg: Looking for open Balthazar. You may get something that way – but yeah, that temple is open almost every time I’m in Orr. It still gets done.
You pick the stats when you choose the recipes you buy. Note that, after buying the recipes (one for the ascended weapon/armor piece, one for the insignia/inscription), it’ll have you pick a stat combo – make sure that the prefixes/stat combo matches, and obviously, that you put them on the right character to craft each part.
Since one of the crafting materials you’ll need is dependent on the stat combo, that will change the overall cost of the item – but not in any major way. For something like the armor, the bigger cost is more in stuff like the damask.
Keep in mind that some weapons and armor are not currently available, or that if you just go by a look while you’re putting it together, you might end up choosing either one that’s not available, or one that needs a lot of time/luck/whatever to get it.
Still, I second getting equipment with the stats you want (start with exotic – they’re not that hard to obtain, even if it takes a little time for your first, and there are multiple ways to get it, depending on the stat combo you want), then looking at skins/upgrading eventually to ascended.
Keep in mind as well that the trait system is going to change completely on this coming Tuesday, so you may want to see if that will change what stats you might want.
4 colors – Red, Blue, Yellow, and Purple. It used to be just blue, when the tag cost 100g, and was only on one character at the time. When they raised the cost to 300g, it was made account wide and with the other 3 colors.
Hopefully someone will get an invite to you before I can get on Menadena, since I won’t be able to get on for a bit. If not though, I’ll be able to get one to you later tonight.
Arashe, we may have some people working on alts, but I’m not sure that they’re working on those while waiting for the next update, and I believe most newer players we’ve got have already leveled higher than that. At the very least though, I’ll add you on my friend list so I can try to help with something if you need it.
Sorry, not looking for help on the jps, but… there’s an edit function for your posts. You didn’t have to delete your originial post, iczek – the pencil icon on the bottom right, near the delete icon, lets you edit so you can add details if you need to.
Teq doesn’t really require that anymore – though I guess I can’t say that as much for what I consider in the middle of the night. Still, I regularly join 10 minutes or less prior to it and the maps almost always win. Triple trouble now… that you need the good group.
But yeah, other world bosses, you shouldn’t have any trouble with people if you’re actually there for the event (timers are good for that, at least one has an event that looks similar to the world boss one, but doesn’t go all the way).
A little I would like to add.
1. On the low level resources – there is no competition between players in gathering them. We all have a copy of it, so taking it will not stop others from being able to, and even if you see 15 players take it, you will still be able to.
2. On top of being able to move while using Renewed Focus, you can use it like another dodge, kind of. Time it when a PvE mob is about to hit with a heavy attack, or if you think an enemy is PvP is about to burst you down. If you’re in a zerg in WvW, you can also use it to help keep yourself up. If you use it, I suggest using all your F skills first – you’ll recharge them anyway, and you can get a bit more out of them this way.
3. Thief also has some skills that would come in handy here. You can use Smokescreen to block projectiles, or if you’re meleeing mobs, drop a pistol 5 to blind them all, and fight in it. Thief tends to be more about avoiding attacks rather than taking them.
5. Yes, they do take transmutation charges after the first use, but like Fermi confirmed, they will go into the account wardrobe.
6. PvP – you can try going into some of the ‘hotjoin’ rooms, though I’d be careful looking at the description, to test some things out. Otherwise, perhaps stick to unranked for now, and try to learn the maps if you can too. There’s not much to say here other than you’ll need to experience it to get experienced.
WvW – roaming, you can do whatever you want really without bothering most other people. If you’re in a zerg, and they have some voice program (TS or Mumble, probably), I’d highly suggest joining in on that, even if you don’t have a mic/can’t speak. Being able to hear what they’re doing makes things much easier, and I would hope most people would be fine helping someone new, and willing to get into voice with them, without much trouble in most situations.
7. It really does depend. If there’s something in the area that’s near death, or would die without much trouble, go ahead and kill it to rally them. If they’re nearly dead and you can rez them through damage, or if there’s nothing that you could use to quickly rally them, then go for rezing them yourself. Also, for groups that are a bit weaker, having some extra healing/support can go a long way. It just depends on the people with you. Having more damage doesn’t hurt though, until you get to the point where you don’t know the encounters well enough/react quickly enough to stay alive without more defense.
8. I’d suggest adding ‘first-timer’ or ‘new to dungeon’ or something to the LFG… but then you do get some people who don’t actually seem to read it, so saying it is probably best too. It’s just a bit more likely you’ll have people who will work with you already – and really, some people who would leave as soon as they hear you are new won’t join an ‘everyone welcome’ run. Don’t be discouraged if you get unlucky at first with it though, there are plenty of people who will run with someone new.
9. You can go up to fractals level 9 without any agony resistance – and as you do them you’ll gain fractal relics, which you can use to get +5 ar infusions from the vendor in the fractal lobby. Ascended trinkets are relatively easy to get at this point, and you can slot the infusions in those as well – if you get to 10 ar, you can go up to level 19 without dealing with agony in any real way, and 5 ar still cuts the damage you would take from it in half. Exotics will be fine – the more important part is to have the agony resistance you need for your level.
When you add a friend, there are 2 names that can show. The first one, which isn’t always there, is the name of the character they are using. That name will change as they move from character to character, or go offline.
The second name, which is always there, and grey, is the account name and number. This will not change, and is the only way you can see that a friend is on if they are using a character you don’t know.
You can also right-click the name in your friends list and give it a nickname. Be warned that it replaces the account name and number if you do, but it could make it easier for you to recognize someone.
The chances of it differ based on the salvage kit – look at where it says there is an x% chance to recover the upgrade.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kit
Master’s/Mystic can be bought or made yourself, with an 80% chance to recover the rune/sigil/other upgrade. If you want it to be guaranteed, you need a black lion salvage kit.
Answering ingame, but for others who come by – for PvP and PvE, it doesn’t matter, because of the megaserver system we have now. For WvW, I’m not sure how their numbers stand anymore – would have to ask in WvW or check their forums or something. Currently ranked 22, just below my server, and we still have activity – just not so much outside of primetime.
Hey Amadran, you have an invite. You should be able to find some people in the guild for most things, but I don’t think we have many on Sorrow’s Furnace who could join you in WvW. (I’m on Ferguson’s Crossing, so I’ve seen your server as an enemy a lot in the past.)
If you want to get into that, I’d suggest asking on your WvW maps about any voice programs they use, or server websites. At a glance, www.sorrowsfurnace.com might be another good place to check. If you see a commander on any of the maps (except Edge of the Mists, cross server), you’ll probably get some information, even if it’s just pointing you to another commander/guild that could help you further. And really, being able to join your server with voice can make WvW so much more fun.
@TheMurkMuffin, good luck with your guild!
I think I remember people guessing that you had to avoid some of the attacks/tornadoes that show up during the fight. I’ve had mine for so long now that I don’t remember anything specific on it, and haven’t been able to check if that was required, so I’m not sure if that would help you.
Sent you an invite!
You’re not the only one who’s not often in large guilds either – this guild was actually my first that wasn’t all people I knew already, in this game or any other. Until I joined, I partied at most with a couple friends of mine, with the rare exception of trying a dungeon, back when gw2lfg was commonly used (guesting/no megaservers, and no lfg window like what we have now).
Feel free to jump into guild chat though, or you can just lurk at first if you prefer – don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have them either.
Several of our members have been in at least a few dungeons, with some of us having the Dungeon Master title. You won’t necessarily always be able to get a group, but if you see someone advertising for a dungeon run, feel free to jump in, or just ask in guild chat if there’s one you’d like to try out. Let them know if you haven’t run it already, so they can provide any information that you may need, or at the very least so everyone in the group is aware of where the members stand experience wise – probably don’t need to say that, but I will anyway.
As for gaining gold – for now, I’d stick with the resource gathering. When you get to 80, I’d still gather resources when you see them if you can – some of the mid tier resources sell pretty well, especially cloth, since people need it to make ascended gear. Edge of the Mists can help you get levels quickly as well as champion bags, though I don’t usually advise that for the first character. Once you get to level 80, or close, the most recent map we got, Silverwastes, can be good for getting gold or some resources quickly too. Dungeon runs, once you’re used to them, on faster paths can be good for some quick gold, as well as a couple world bosses that you’re not quite yet to (though one you’d want to be in voice chat). I can bring more up ingame, and so can some others in the guild.
My first piece of advice is to take the weapon you want the skin of most. You can easily get another piece of rabid gear if you decide you want it, and you can just reskin one of your current weapons if you want the appearance.
Now, if you want to actually use the weapon, it’s my understanding (though I’d see what other people have to say as well) that engineer and ranger could use rabid best – pistol on engi, with shortbow, axe, sword(?), dagger, or torch.
That’s not taking into account the expansion though, where it looks like guardian/dragonhunter could get some nice condi damage too – and of course, we haven’t seen all the options on the other 3 yet.
Shame I missed it myself. Being around for W<3W would’ve been rather amusing, along with all the bugs I’ve heard of.
Was the most fun in a long time. We had a party in SM with cerveza, vin, and tons of people throwing baguettes.
Weren’t you the one who started the Missed Connections thread a couple years back? Seems like a party like that would be perfect for people, worlds apart, at each others’ throats, to connect and laugh.
The reason on the rares is that you can salvage level 68+ rares/exotics for a chance at ectos. I use a mystic/master salvage kit on my rares, and up that to a black lion salvage kit if there’s a sigil/rune I really want.
But for rares, you can also check out a map you probably missed – Silverwastes. It’s west of Brisban Wildlands, and once you get to know the meta events there, you can get a lot of loot, including rares, from that.
Also, on the dyes – if you check the hero panel now, and go to the dye tab, you can see every dye there now, including dyes you don’t have (with a lock). You can find a lot of them on the tp, so you may want to just buy the dyes straight off to unlock most of them. Maybe start with some unidentified dyes, depending on how many you have, and then just buy the ones you want but haven’t unlocked.
Been a while since anything came up in here, so bump! For any people peeking through, yes, we are still active, most of our activity is still in NA, and guild missions coming up tomorrow, as usual, at 11:30 PM EST. Remember that you don’t have to stay in the guild if you want to come for them – we do temp invites for people who just want the guild commendations, or to experience some of the content.
Even if I don’t constantly post in here, I usually have the forum open and check regularly (and another officer may catch a post before me too), so I should see any posts within a day, at least.
In this example, I see it as more a learn to play issue as well. The necromancer even stopped after his stomp, looked back and forth between the mesmer clone and downed ele a few times, where it’s clearly visible (and with no hectic fighting to distract) that the clone has a differently colored name and is autoattacking. The change that was suggested was merely a change in the name color, and I don’t think that would have made a difference in this example.
Now, I could see making the change anyway – if nothing else, people with colorblindness might have an easier time with it. I’d actually love to have full control over the colors in options too – for that and chat. But, again, in this example, I’d agree it’s merely learn to play, with little, if any, impact from the change.
Yeah, I was confused at first a while back myself. When was the last time you did those story modes?
