Hide Signet effects from buff bar

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Matt H.6142

Matt H.6142

This is prompted with the introduction of mirage coming into the game. For other professions, hiding these would help tidy up the buff bar. Most signets aren’t so game changing as needing to tell an enemy they should be ready to counter one.

Mesmer is where that changes a bit. Signet of Domination can be traited to be a 4 second stun, and that may not be fun not to see coming, but a Mesmer could stealth during its cast, making that a moot point. Signets are one giveaway between clones and the Mesmer. They are counter-intuitive to add to the skillbar. For a clone build, you’ll want to pick up Signet of Illusions, and then maybe min/max with the trait Blurred Inscriptions, and then add more signets to the skill bar. (The Signet of Midnight rework is brilliant btw.)

Alternatively, I’d like to see Signet of Illusions health buff become baseline, freeing up the passive of this signet to be something else, making it non-essential to a clone build.

If you watch Shadowhunters on Netflix, you’ll find on the wall in Simon’s room a poster of Guild Wars: Eye of the North!
Simon is the nerdy accounting student smart mouth who, SPOILERS, becomes a vampire. It was very meta for me because I’m an accountant nerd who was playing Guild Wars 2 at that very moment split screen with Netflix. And I suppose I am a team vampire in a vampire/werewolf fight.

OP here. I reskinned down to Storm but missed the glow and the footsteps too much and even missed the flashy projectiles, especially at night, so I changed it back happily.
I’d like to propose then the projectiles happen in the night cycle like the other changes to the scepter. Maybe still a full reverse on all scepter 3 skills for ele, because they were more detail than the electro blobs.

Need to be able to switch while in Beastmode

The swap would need a tell to another player like the rev legend swap. There are 12 terrestrial families and 5 archetypes, so that’s a lot to watch and adapt to for what will likely be an effect icon, and there’s already a lot of effect reading as it is. I’d rather a pet swap refreshed beast mode after leaving it.
The petless ranger would be pretty flavourless in-game. Besides, imagine having a dog and cat in your head at the same time…

Thanks for the skill pass-through. I think you found a lot of the traits I’d never select because they competed with better ones, or they were underwhelming, and made them something to consider and play with, particularly the signet traits, and a lot of revenant ones.
Ammo is great. Such a QOL improvement for the warrior axe, kick, bolas and daredevil distracting daggers.
I’ve liked the guardian changes. I’ll miss being able to cheese the underground fractal with the spirit shield, but making it more of a reaction skill will be good everywhere else. They’ll be very reliable now. Applying light aura with staff 2 added some nice flavor.
Ele conjures are a lot more fun for at least casual play. I don’t know about the water arrow charges, but let’s see how it goes.
Hopefully ranger spirits will have a rethink one day. Maybe effects like the Siren’s Landing Dirges affecting allies and enemies.
Necro – crazy Spectral changes. A lich sucking player vitality. Nice.
Thanks again. Drudge through all the complaints a little stronger now.

I would love for this skill to work. I don’t think it’s ever worked 100%, but it’s been better.
It’s very apparent in Bitterfrost Frontier while on the ice. I don’t know if it’s because of drakes under the ice that it tries to tether to, but in my experience, if you walk to one of the Kodan patrol groups, and activate it right in the middle of the 4 enemies, it might tether to the Veteran Kodan, and nothing else.
I’ve also experienced a tether expire early on a golem in the AOE test area.
I’m sure play testing it will find lots of times it’s not reliable.

I actually had to stop playing the game for the night because of how this episode ended. It was really disappointing. To hear two of the big bads were put back to sleep and that’s probably the best course of action, has me fearing those stories are done now. Zhaitan had more personality than the two we met.
I did a lot of aimless wandering of the map trying to find where the apex was when it was just a big green circle. I explored most of the map trying to get there, and earned the mastery, which now appears is not needed to get there.
I like the maps mix of fauna, hearts and events. There does seem to be a lot to do in it.
With the story done though, we’re just going to ignore the spirit who told us to leave, and farm the map forever more? Seems a silly thing to tell the player.
I’m feeling like it’s a 2 out of 5 stars.

Do you think the second sphere of influence plot device will be dropped? Will we learn that Primordus has absorbed mind and shadow influences too?

Do you think these magics are compatible? I like the rotting destroyers, thinking the nature and death magics war inside those destroyers for a new effect. But what if fire and ice merged in the ice brood? Fire immunity or puddles everywhere? I wonder how much control the dragon is having on the mix of magics in its destroyers. Seeing we have fire/death, nature/fire and all 3 (rotting) this seems a plausible point.

in Ranger

How about if the spirits become astral wisps and circle the ranger, making them mobile and passive/active effect centered on the ranger? Circling wisps are certainly doable in the tech. Animation can be minimal or non-existent, allowing sun spirit’s blind to be instant, like it should be, and frost and earth actives dropping under the ranger for ice combo field or to help in escapes.
The wisps could each have a colour indicating the type of spirit, and Spirit of Nature would be larger in size.
To spread them out, I’d suggest sun and storm around the shoulders, (sky) and frost and earth near the floor (ground). Spirit of Nature floating around the head maybe.

In a world where we’ve seen a dragon’s mouth can be a separate entity from the dragon, (see Mouth of Zhaitan) I wouldn’t call a mouth the dragon itself. It’s a curious choice of words if it is the dragon. Why not call it the head of Mordremoth, or simply Mordremoth? Perhaps then the fight in the dream should have been called the mind of Mordremoth. Thoughts?

Fight against Zhaitan vs fight against Mordy

in Lore

Posted by: Matt H.6142

Matt H.6142

Remember that the Pact had every intention of using a big air raid but Modremoth had the power to reach out instantaneously and take down every ship in one go. No, Modremoth had to be fought in a different way from Zhaitan. Air raids may not work against any other dragon even. I think all remaining dragons could cause elements to erupt from the ground to take out a fleet. Icicles, volcanoes, crystal shards, water tentacles.
The pacing with Modremoth was so chock full of droughts though, you forget he took out the fleet, two forts, town of prosperity, corrupted a player race, and empowered the White Mantle after his death. Zhaitan wasn’t nearly as devestating. He populated uninhabited lands, and took Claw Island. Corrupted a krait tower and made the PC face his own personal fear. His rising caused a tidal wave that perhaps unintentionally wiped out Lions Arch.

I believe there was an article about mordrem guard and they do indeed remember everything which made them so dangerous for the pact because they knew all the tactics they would use. And what ideals they might have when they submitted and accepted Mordremoth’s will, who’s to say?

Orr Expansion, Playable Risen

in Lore

Posted by: Matt H.6142

Matt H.6142

Wouldn’t a cleansed Risen fall over dead? The thing that makes them move around is the dragon energy.

Look to the Arah Forgotten dungeon path and Twitchy the chicken. It is still up and moving. However I don’t think the risen would be a great playable race. I think most would be mindless. Cleansing the undead will not make them living either. There’s a spirit in game very upset that her body is carrying on and killing others. Surviving family would probably like the risen to have peace. The more powerful undead with a chance of having a personality after cleansing are often so monsterous, their models wouldnt work in current profession skills. Visions of Eyes of Zhatain doing a warriors hundred blades. No.
But thank you OP, I did have to think on this. It had me thinking what separates the risen from sylvari. Or mordrem to be exact when they are copied from corpses. But I think mordrem are life. Blighted and pale tree pods do seem to be an embryonic sac. The risen are minions. The mordrem; servants and slaves.

Modremoth's size and form

in Lore

Posted by: Matt H.6142

Matt H.6142

What is canon for Modremoths appearance? HOT media shows 3 different looks and the wiki seems to confuse the mouth of mordremoth with the dragon itself. To the best of my knowledge, the game hasn’t explained what the mouth of Modremoths is and just what exactly it is connected to. What part of Modremoth is that giant tree in Dragon Stand? I understand the HOT trailer is NOT canon which is too bad because that vine dragon was the coolest.
Canach at one point says they have been like fleas on his back which I thought was a great descriptor. We see rivers of vines in dragon stand and Verdant Brink and wouldn’t that be cool if that was actually Mordremoths body, spanning 4 maps? But on the Ley energy map, we see Mordremoth is in his corner making a signature no bigger than Tarir or Rata Novus. Considering how out of date that map is, could he have become bigger since then?
Also it is said the tendrils that don’t move are part of Modremoth itself and we’ve seen them as far as The Iron Marches.
So is Mordremoth just a writhing pile of vines? Is he whatever he wanted us to see? Hence why we can only kill him in his mind?

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Although that feeling of achievement is well diminished, I think this is a good change. I don’t think it was good gameplay to rush to all the easy HP points with every one of my alts, skipping all the meta, and possibly being handicapped in WvW to want to play an elite spec. I think this was a large part of why a lot of events felt unmanned the first weekend as everyone was off with their own agendas to level up and complete their maps. (the weird megaserver behaviour also could have been a factor.) Again, another grind if you have all 8 professions (or multiples) to do.
Although between all the HP points (which I’ll probably only complete 3 times max for the legendaries) and the WvW notary, I fear Hero Points will become the skill points of yesteryear.

Without the staff, avatar is slow to charge.
