I haven’t played on my ranger is so long (it’s really a shame) and one of the main reasons I stopped is because I got sick of the sword #1 and how clunky it felt. So as someone who is completely ignorant to the situation, could someone please give me an update? Is there any mention of fixing the AA? Possibly making it function like GS AA?
Why must people complain about things that finally give reaper competitive power damage? Seriously. Stop. From day one the devs made it very clear necro is all about being self sufficient. Robert emphasized that with the reaper interviews many many times.
The community is very hostile towards anyone who isn’t a warrior/guardian/ele/mesmer sometimes thief. So unless things change you will continue to see elitist players who will try to kick you just for playing necro. The fact is necromancers have high survivability and are viable for whatever it is you like. If you like how necromancer plays, absolutely go ahead and level it up
If you enjoy the weapon, use it. If not, don’t. People may think (just as an example) you’re gimping your DPS by using GS and not dagger/x, and those are the types of people who create a hostile game environment. Whether it’s true or not, I like the look and feel of GS a hell of a lot more. Unless you’re trying to break a world record or you’ve wiped at the same spot 10 times in a row you don’t have the right to tell someone how to play their profession
Just a mini rant. Tldr GS is fun
Absolutely. Minor things could be improved for quality of life, but I do love feeling like a true reaper. I’m anticipating a bunch of flame from the elitists, but oh well – who gives a kitten what they think? Reaper is incredibly fun and is worth buying HoT for that reason alone
My current beta build. I absolutely love it. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQJARWnc0AN3gtbCmbC0bilfBLOJGFniUPhvQwCKpFA+AA-ThSBABFpkbjLAAN7PYkyBcUr4GVVaVJIK6C04QAAwTAgUARMGA-e
My current build is essentially the following (as close as I could get with beta armor selection):

This build is so much fun it’s incredible. I find I can solo groups of mobs on my own in Arah, and it’s quite easy for me to carry the team with all the sustain. The perma-chill has a huge impact on the mobs, which makes it so appealing to play reaper. Anyone have a condi build for PVE dungeons etc?
*Or at least a hybrid?
Something about Grasping Darkness is off. Either it’s the cone width or the skill radius, but it just is not reliable. Terrain is like at fault here (so..much.clipping during testing) but what I would absolutely love if it Grasping Darkness was activated like DS #5 where it tethered up to 5 people and then pulled them in (keeping same chill and lifeforce values etc). At the moment it feels a bit off. This is my only current gripe with GS
I have never done this by accident, maybe you need a different binding. Adding a skill delay would be unnecessary and would negatively impact builds that flash DS.
“i dont know why people dont see the survivability in 5% life force each SECOND against the mere 4k health u get from valkyrie (+the bit u get for your shroud)”
How is it exactly you are managing to hit 5 perma-chilled targets every second for the entire battle?
“I´d be really surprised if Berserker wont be a feasible option for Necros in coordinated groups anymore. A mix of Berserker and Valkyrie/Cavalier maybe if you don´t feel 100% comfortable running full-on glasscannon, but Soldier?!
PVT gear and the like sounds a bit excessive.”
You’re thinking dungeons, where everything can be steamrolled by stacking in a corner
(edited by Matt Stacey.7415)
ofc berserker
who cares of survi when u are playing necro, lol.
Seems like an uneducated post. With zerks, RS, and DD (along with fury, discipline banner, food etc) you would end up with a maxed out 100% crit chance and therefore wasted stats. With raids being the most difficult content we’re most likely going to need to incorporate toughness/vitality gear into the mix. That is why soldier/valkyrie (my personal favorite)/cavalier are much more appealing now.
tldr; OP didn’t read
PVE:
What I’m running (roughly) right now for world completion. Traits are fairly standard, but selfish. Valkyrie armor with strength runes + zerk trinkets allows me to blow through most content without much effort. Might and vulnerability are easily stacked. Swiftness for exploration using warhorn and spectral walk. Well of suffering for dmg, protection and lifesteal, plus some other well (well of power is great during condi heavy champs like the krait hypnoss. Elite subject to change..
Anyways overall a very fun and very sustainable build due to high HP and lots of lifesteal.
WvW:
Haven’t WvW’d with necro yet :P
Can’t someone post a link of this horrid animation for me? I won’t be in-game for a bit
Necros in general really seem to have to fight tooth and nail to get the few scraps left over from other prof’s getting useful attention…
The final patch notes are good proof..
When we first heard some of the changes mentioned at Twitchcon there was immediately an outrage of “that’s all you’re changing?/why aren’t you changing xyz?/this is a nerf not a buff!” and I kept thinking to myself be patient..Tuesday will come and those who main a necro will be pleasantly surprised. I am honestly very disappointed. I was expecting so much more from the changes, necro desperately needs love and I thought we were going to see some of it before the release of HoT. Yes there were some good changes, however, I found them very underwhelming.
Even still I don’t fully comprehend how axe is a ranged (non-thrown) weapon. The animation will always seem a bit odd to be, but I wouldn’t consider it something that is worth changing.
I would love to see staff auto attack changed to a channeled/no projectile attack, or have the projectile speed increased by 50%.
Maybe they actually genuinely like the class, and disagree with the huge cespit of elitist players that tell them “necro sucks everyone else is better why do you play”
Last beta weekend I had no necro. I played reaper for about 30 minutes at the end of the beta weekend. I now have a level 80 necro. I currently have valkyrie armor with strength runes and berserker trinkets. For traits I have spite, blood magic, and soul reaping. I’ll probably have to trade blood magic for reaper though. I’ll be sad to see it go but as fun as it is I don’t think it’s worth more than spite or soul reaping. More than anything I want to try a condition build but currently in PVE it’s not even worth it.
There are two upcoming things I’m looking forward to: reaper, and changes to conditions that make necro condi viable in PVE. I would love to see scepter be improved, at the moment there’s no real reason for me to use it. Ever since I picked up a dagger I haven’t touched axe, seems too weak for me to use. I would absolutely love to run a condition build (or maybe sinister fun) but at the moment it just isn’t worth it.
Screw this godforsaken meta so many of you subscribe to, “berserkers or gtfo.” Unless you are trying to break a GW2 world record, the 15 seconds longer a fight may take because you took gear other than zerk (God forbid, right?) is not important. Believe it or not it is possible that there are builds that exist that are viable other than the ones on sites like metabattle. I’m currently running a valkyrie set with some berserkers trinkets mixed in and it’s a hell of a lot of fun, and it hits like a tank. Add blood magic in and all the life siphoning in combination with high health makes me feel like an actual necromancer. Transfusion could be fun when that raid boss AOE nearly wipes your teammates. Necro is already fun at 80, I’m extremely excited for reaper. Oh I’m sorry everyone, is this the wrong thread? I was looking for the thread about necromancer raid builds
She’s got a really persistent stalker
Solution: upgrade your PC. Get better ISP speeds. Run cat6
Find a profession who’s mechanics you thoroughly enjoy. Once you have that, tailor a build to for your needs. There’s no point playing a certain profession (even if they were a kitteneesy) if it isn’t fun
I believe dungeons themselves operate fine as they are, I am just waiting for content that you CAN’T run zerk. I would love to see a 25% damage increase (direct and conditions) for mobs and also a way for them to reveal you in stealth. Cut the skipping bs, and make fights challenging enough you can’t burst everything down while stacking in a corner. Make mobs hit hard enough you actually consider throwing some vit/tough/healing in the mix
. . . crazy-anime reapers and everything you can possibly think of! Share your ideas.
We’ve been asking for more revealing male armors for a very very long time, and we haven’t gotten any at all
The day any of this kitten goes though will be my last day playing Guild Wars
No, not “How do I set all my skills to signets and then press 11111111111” I mean, how do so many of you play signet warrior? Warrior is mindless enough, how do you not fall asleep at your keyboard playing something so boring?
losing dps in order to get health back while being open for counterplay sounds totally correct to me
While that makes sense, it doesn’t work the way it should. The amount of health you gain doesn’t make it worth it to use that skill in the first place.
Well it’s a 3k heal on a fairly low cd, it’s not too much but it’s “ok”. Sure it could be more, but that’d be just “nice to have” but not required to declare this skill as useful. In my humble opinion at least.
To be honest, I think the time you are getting hit during the channel far outweighs the measly ~3k HP

Warhorn is maybe the biggest damage skill on the class
…what skill are you referring to?
I think I would enjoy a buff to the skill solely for the fact that dagger AA gets boring, and the fact that using #2 #3 drop my DPS with no good return is kind of saddening. I like the idea of a faster drain, that might actually encourage me to use the skill
With all the feedback on reaper it’s possible necromancer could really turn a new leaf with HoT. It’s widely regarded as the “worst” class in game, and even “useless in dungeons.” Between the flack necro gets for “cheesy” PvP or lack of utility in organized groups, it can almost be a bit discouraging to play. I think because of this ANet is going to be taking all the necro feedback a bit more seriously this time around. The way Robert talks about necromancer makes it seem he genuinely cares about making this class well rounded
I really would love to see a condi damage booster on Necro though, possibly even partnered with that duration to give it extra oomph since the necro himself is actually not great with condi. Though I do think bleeding needs a decent bump to it’s coefficient while burning mainly just needs a drop on it’s base damage, balance the two out a little (not equal as bleed is more prevalent and all, but overall bleed needs some love burn maybe a little toning down)
This as well. Before playing necro I thought they were the undisputed kings of conditions. It seems the most fitting as wearing down your enemy and stealing their life force seems to be the theme of the class. I would love to see a large emphasis on conditions, it would certainly provide more options to builds and maybe, MAYBE we could have a meta level condition build? Ah I can’t wait for HoT, there’s so much potential for conditions
Necromancer gives the least benefits to other players when playing in a group, and still has disappointing damage compared to other classes that provide so much more than just damage. As someone with a lot of hope for necro, I’m trying to keep an open mind for some damage increases coming down the line to make reaper worth it. The original idea was that necromancer didn’t offer much to the party in terms of support/control, but they were good at self sustain and damage. Mediocre damage means the only thing necro can do is stay alive looking at low numbers, longer. Come on Robert, make us a proud (and feared) class the play! Ele has had it’s fun in the limelight
As someone who has sold a legendary rather than kept it because I find all the trails/affects annoying and unappealing, I don’t like the second idea. However, the first is an awesome idea and that alone might be enough to convince me to take the trait again
I’m somewhat new to necro, as I finally joined the undead ranks here after playing around with reaper in the last BWE. I always wanted to make a necro but to honest something about it seemed unappealing. So reaper finally gave me the boost I was looking for and now I’m happily at level 54 and climbing fast. This’ll be my 6th or 7th 80, so I’m already in the habit of researching the profession almost as much as i play it. I understand there are three primary build paths, but of course they can be modified for experimentation. Those would be: power builds, condi builds, and MM builds. I’m currently running a power DS build for leveling (which is a blast) but of course the #1 thought in my mind is how the class will play at 80. So finally comes my question, for PVE are there any viable condi or MM builds? I’m looking to experiment to try other fun builds. I know HoT will bring changes to conditions that hopefully make condi necromancer more viable, so we will see how that goes. I’m not an elitist, but I don’t bother with the “play whatever build you think is fun” idea. I primarily spend my time doing open world content, world bosses, and dungeons. I have a feeling I won’t be doing as many dungeons on my necromancer as I would on my warrior/thief/mesmer/ranger..
Thanks for any input! Builds/weapons/sigils/rune combos etc are appreciated
Without starting a flame war, I find it amusing to hear some people went to specific maps just to get x amount of evades. It’s such a key mechanic, and used by an experienced player across PVE, PVP and WvW equally. To hear that something as simple as that is a struggle is again, amusing
The issue isn’t that I don’t know how to get there, it’s the fact that I can’t get the daily by doing things I would have done anyway, I have to go out of my way to do them.
I haven’t played in a while, but after starting again recently I found I’ve been playing just about every night after work for a week and have yet to get one daily chest completed. It seems that where we used to be able to get a daily strictly by PVE activites, we are now extremely limited in our options. It is clear the focus is now largely on PVP and WvW. For example, I am playing on a new character, and the only PVE dailies require me having access to Ascalon, Shiverpeaks and Metrica Province (which I do not have access to as a low level human) . Though I could easily get to those places, it feels obtrusive that I would have to manually go to those specific areas just to reach a daily, which makes it feel forced and even grindy. The only alternative there is for this is to either play on a different character or just play PVP. I find it strange ANet is now choosing to restrict a daily system that was nearly flawless before.
Is it me or since the update does it feel impossible to 1v1 an engineer without getting swept? They seem to out damage, out heal, and out buff me at every turn. What’s the best way to counter them?
I just spent about an hour on a level 11 fractal with a pretty inexperienced group. We got to stage 4, which ended up being the Molten Boss Fractal and wiped several times before having a member rage quit. We posted on the lfg to fill the gap, only to find out another member went AFK. We waited for him to come back, and when he did not we kicked him. Turns out he opened the instance and we were all kicked out, so needless to say I’m done running fractals for the night. I honestly can’t understand how someone can prefer this system to the new ‘leaderless’ instancing.
I spend time in Charr territory specifically to curb the population.
PVE. You will be swarmed with it before you know it.
Temporal Curtain is infamous because it does not stack swiftness. It has been that way since I first created my mesmer, and it still hasn’t changed. I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if it did.
I have heard many people saying mesmer is very hard to level up, and tbh I’m not sure I understand why. In fact, I remember there were few champs in my leveling areas I couldn’t solo. Having illusions and distortion adds a ton of survivability, so I’ll start with my first question, what weapons are you using? I main a mesmer because combat in all the other classes I tried was just too plain (warrior, guardian, ranger, thief). Once you get the hang of it, combat becomes very fluid and much more interactive than most professions.
No love for mesmer PVE :\
We all know some signets can be useful, but there are those people who run full signets who waste the entire potential of their classes…what pure signet professions make you guys cringe the most? For me I’d have to say warrior, it’s boring enough to play, but signet builds pretty much guarantee you are only using 1-3 keys during combat.
Sethren, the game does and should revolve around PVP.
No, it doesn’t, and no, it shouldn’t. You could not be more wrong. You do not decide what the game revolves around just because you play it. Therefore, devs should not focus on balancing things related strictly PVP because the entirety of GW2 “revolves around PVP.”
