Wat? are you serious? it’s pretty easy… you could even get a mesmer with 2000<cdmg

I just tryed to reach the maximun of cdmg with one build^^

PS: I used runes of the undead because there weren’t perplexity runes when I played confusion builds

ADD: the first number is without sigil of corruption and the 2nd number is with the 250 bonus cdmg from the sigil.

using a staff that can stack 8 confusion at once, i can tell that mobs receive damage by it a lot of times.

I also think you mean the scepter…
could you tell me how much dmg you do per second with confusion? I’d really like to know because I don’t know it.

I think with 1600 cdmg I managed to reach 6k ticks before they nerfed it in wvw what sometimes caused 18k dps on panicing players. but the normal pvemobs attack like 1/3 each second(tell me if i’m wrong here) i think that’d cause a dps of 2k? not enough to reach my powerbuild :< I like the idea of confusion but it is far too weak i think

Here’s my list.

  1. Rataliatiory Demise – useless since you need downstate for that
  2. Chaotic Revival – useless since you need downstate + rally for that
  3. Rending Shatter – useless because it’s only one stack. also we stack vulnerability with dazzling…
  4. Protected Mantras – makes no sense for me
  5. Furious Interruption – far to weak for a grandmaster also it doesn’t affect illusions

I’d love to see improvements for WvW archetypes working in PvE.

  • Conditions: confusion damage is already split to be higher in PvE, but it’s probably not high enough.
  • Interrupt: on-interrupt traits have a lot of potential in PvE, if the rewards for interrupting are worth it, even if shutdown isn’t a part of PvE.

I agree. A really great thing would be to change Furious Interruption

Hey everyone,
I play GW2 (and Mesmer) since the beta but I don’t know what they thought of confusion when they created it and when they nerfed it.

Was it meant to be one possibility for the mesmer to play dps?
Was it just another condition for some extra dmg?
Was it meant to be for pvp/wvw only?
Is there anything good about confusion in pve? (I think it’s just crap for pve…)

  • Confounding Suggestions – We will merge the old functionality with the new functionality. It will now have 50% change to stun on daze and increase daze duration by 25%.

Hey,
I’m terribly sorry but I don’t think it’s a good solution for this trait.
Traits that have a chance to trigger should be in the chaos traitline and not in domination.

The 25% daze duration… you could wonderfully stack it with the mesmer rune (+33% daze duration) to really be the one that controlls/dominates the fight.
Since the mesmer can daze 2s with the pistol it’d change a (2*1.33*1.25) 3.325s daze into a 1s stun… that’s not a good trait. It rather downgrades our gameplay since we have to rely on that trait when using it.

I’d like it to work like this:
You have a 50% chance to CONVERT a daze to stun.

So your stuns wouldn’t be affected.
E.g.:
Daze an enemy with a 2.735s daze: 50% chance to convert the daze to a 2.735s stun

ADD: The trait would cause us to have 50% good dazes and 50% stuns… yey 1s stun vs 3s daze…

When I’m doing solo roaming I always use traveler runes. With mates I use ranger runes or just ruby orbs (ranger runes for shatter/ ruby orbs for phantasm)

Rune of the Ranger:

  1. +25 Precision
  2. +3% Critical Damage
  3. +50 Precision
  4. +5% Critical Damage
  5. +90 Precision
  6. +5% Damage (this effect is bugged so it does not require a pet)

Yeah… I got 3 different zerker armors…

Am I the only one who doesn’t care for copying other people’s skills?

I’d rather just get the gw1 Echo, which turns into the next skill I use, so I can use chaos storm, blurred frenzy, more often, or stack phantasms more quickly

Hehe would be funny to use with IC(Illusions 25), CD(Chaos X) and Phase retreat :P
Two times port every 6s I’d like this!
I’d also like to use it with Phase Retreat -> Switch to Sword -> have the ability of phase retreat :P

Maybe one should also focus on confusion… yeah in pvp/wvw it may be viable (I don’t even think it is in tPvP) but in PvE it’s the last choice for a Mesmer.
It’s not like “it lasts not long enough to deal dmg” or “we need options to stack it faster/higher”.
IMO it’s the mechanic of this condition. I thought of a few possibilitys for confusion:

  • confusion as singletarget “retaliation” debuff
    We could make it like this: Every time your target deals dmg you will cause confusion to hit" so it will make it another way of retaliation based on conditiondmg.
  • make it like “empathie” in gw1
    now also reduces dmg dealed by the foe by 1%/2% per stack
  • a confused enemy will suffer to random conditions every time he uses a skill
    10% 4s vulnerability per stack
    5% 0.25s immobilize per stack
    10% 2s poison per stack
    30% 5s 2 stacks bleed per stack
    5% 1s chill per stack
    20% 2s cripple per stack
    15% 2s blind per stack
    15% 5s torment per stack
    this may be a bit overpowered since i’m not a balancer but it would give the mesmer the possibility to apply more conditions
  • % of dmg hits opponent
    have it like every 100 conditiondmg 1% of the dmg dealed is reflected at the target
    so with 1000cdmg you would cause him to take 10% of his own dmg. With 1500cdmg 15%… (may also be op. I like the idea not the actual numbers )

The word mimic would lead to the clones who would exactly act like you. It could be kind of a special buff that lasts for a short periot.
It could also say that you imitate your enemy so this would be another version of a skill:

  • Mimic as a debuff/buff:
    Skilldescription:
    You copy the next skill your target is using. The skill lasts for 60s and has it’s original cooldown/dmg-factors/passive buffs/etc. (you can also copy a signet to gain the passives) After the 60s you had the “new” skill the cooldown will set to 25s of the mimic skill.

    The next skill you use will be copied by an <ally/enemy> mesmer!
    Range:
    900 -1200(with trait)

On my iphone, so I won’t address everything but I want to make a quick comment on the Mender’s Purity change. First, the change is a very nice. Just remember, Mender’s Purity has an internal cool down of 10 secs. So this doesn’t necessarily make MoR more viable in pvp.

And I agree with Chaos on the CS change . Still not worth a GM slot, but it’d be a good replacement for Wastrel’s.

Since when does mender’s purity have an internal cooldown of 10s? Did I miss a patch or am I mistaking some traits? Are you sure? I’m really confused and can’t even test it since I’m not at home. My only source is the wiki and there’s nothing written about a cooldown.

I’m not a teacher in OMFG but here is what I play:

  • EU only
    * PvP:(20%) solo q a lot since sentotix started his awesome series “Sensotix goes solo q”. I’m still looking for a tPvP group in eu
  • PvE:(30%) I always do the living world and then go back to dungeons.
  • WvW:(50%) I’m Mesmer in our guild squad but the most time I’m roaming

Theory crafting: Most of the time for WvW soloroaming. I try to NEVER use buff food for my builds so that I always can choose for each situation (and I don’t have money for food :x )

I’m not a teacher but I always like to help the mesmers whose questions I can answer

Just one short thing: I only know this for mesmers but there are two traits that can only trigger when you were downed. IMO these traits are wasted slots because traits are there for you to benefit from them. Mesmers can choose between 3% less dmg or 5s chaos armor when rally or 5s retaliation when downed. All for 10points in chaos (toughness and boon duration line) where’s the sense in these traits? I do not understand why anyone should pick one of the “downstate traits” instead of less dmg. I don’t know how this is with other classes but for the Mesmer they really are useless and this is why I would say that all downstate traits should be replaced with more benefitial traits.

You could also just change it with “get 5s invulnerability after resell awning from a waypoint” or get a +1000%damageboost when you’re dead.

Hey everyone. I finally managed to gain access to the forum at my grandparents’ house.
So here’s my opinion about the upcoming patch:

  • Mantra Mastery got a really nice buff since we’re now able to use it with DE only using 20 points in dueling. This will make me use mantras a lot more ty anet!
    The radius buff of inspiration XI is also a nice thing.
  • VI in illusions " Illusionary Invigoration" has great changes too and since nearly every shatter build I played uses this trait for 20 points the move to master tier isn’t too bad for my gameplay.
  • Dazzling glamours for adept tier makes glamour builds having 10 free points for any other trait line than illusions.
  • Chaotic Revival… This kind of trait gives me a headache anytime I see it. IMO a trait that can only trigger when you are downed/rallied is a wasted slot. Also there is no point in using that instead of illusionary defense which makes any build a lot better.
  • Chaotic Transference got a strong and very usefull buff. There are many Mesmer PU builds that benefit from this trait.
  • Illusionist’s Celerity this is the biggest buff in this update. I think now I can set an old rule for my builds that was “always put 5 points in illusions” to “always try to put 15 points in illusions.” Woooow great buff anet!
  • Mirror of Anguish is a trait I’d NEVER use it has to compete with bountiful interruption and chaotic dampening and both of them are a far better choice than this trait. Cool down reduction doesn’t make me use it. I think I’d use it if it’d also makes you ignore the stun.
  • Confounding Suggestions – This is a trait I first have to try out before I judge it. Sure theory crafting is possible but let’s see how it’ll work ingame.
  • Protected Mantras… With Chaotic Transference we could gain 60 conditiondmg while charging so maybe some condition builds that use mantras can benefit from this trait? I don’t know and I usually don’t play condition builds.
  • Mender’s Purity: This is… great? Is it just great? No it’s more. IMO it’s more than just great! This trait allowes us to use mantra of revovery instead of mantra of resolve! combinated with 3times cast for mantras this can remove 6 conditions every 12,5s… OP! Also this makes moResolve totally useless. The aoe of the resolve mantra isn’t big enough to use it as support skill and also the cooldown is better! Maybe they should just change the functionality of moResolve or increase the radius. I don’t know… but they really HAVE to buff moResolve when this trait will be buffed like this.

I’d like a buff like:
Winds of Chaos no longer bounces to allies but applys a random boon when you hit a foe. Just to have it hitting more than one enemy in Zergfights or PvP-Teamfights.

I say that not because I’m not happy with the staff (it’s my favorite weapon after torch) but it’d still be nice

I don’t think that they “fix” it. It would cause Zergs that have at least 2 mesmers to have swiftness the whole time. Everything has advantages and disadvantages.
Every other speedbuff can only affect up to 5 players but can be stacked.
Our speedbuff affects ALL players but does not stack the duration

I think they’re quite happy with this solution. Else they’d have to set the maxtargets to 5 players. with a buff like portal has.

I already said “thank you” but it doesn’t explain how awesome your videos are and how great they are to guide a player to skill and success!
Always when I see a new video where you play your mesmer I watch it and analyse the differences between your gameplay and my gameplay.

Let’s see what you changed in my gameplay:

  • positioning: You explained what you do and how you choose your position in a fight. I just started to take your advices and was able to survive longer, spike harder and also to support better! (awesome)
  • overview: A thing that followed my improved positioning in the combat was that now I’m able to have the whole fight in my view. A thing I really benefit from!
  • skill usage: when to use which skill is a problem I’ve had in some situations. Your videos just explain it perfectly and extremly improve my gameplay.

Theese are just a few examples I could tell from my own gameplay. I think if I’d made a before-after-video I think I’d find even more improvements that I got thanks to you.

The only thing I dislike is that I always play against rank 0-20 players (rarely rank 30+) because I’m still at rank 13 (I don’t want to farm ranks. I dislike it.). Is there any way to get myself in games with stronger opponents? I don’t think it’s enough practice playing against low experienced players. Thanks to you I know how to play and I’d like to test it against better players… in a few matches I could even win 1v3 -_- I think that wasn’t my own skill but the lack of experience/skill my opponents had :<

Hey everyone,
It’s been over a year now since I started playing my mesmer in wvw roaming. I’ve always played shatterbuilds and now I want to try out the phantasmstyle but always when I go 1v2 (even a fight I could easily win with shatter) the enemys keep killing my phantasms and i have nearly 0 dmgoutput (on any build I tested so far).

Could anyone who plays phantasmbuilds in wvw pls tell me what to do when I use phantasms(just basics for the moment)? I still don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Hmmm my Nr. 2 worked quite well with the disenchanter in 1v1 but against 2 players i can’t play phantasm builds. I don’t know how to deal dmg and kill them fast enogh that they can’t rezz each other. It’s a matter of skill I think.

A friend told me that a “normal” shatterbuild is great using carrion armor and zerker trinkets. I didn’t test it because I do not have a carrion armor but I trust him. His build should look like this

Maybe he also used Cleansing Conflagration instead of Shattered Concentration.

I’ve had this idea too but I’m afraid my disenchanter won’t last long enogh to that. In 1vX (with 1<X<5) you can’t rely on a phantasm for your whole conditionremoval.

Hey Chaos, thanks for your feedback.
I take MoPain as damageboost and not as a healskill because if I trait 20 in inspirations I’d rather choose Warden’s Feedback or Temporal Enchanter which I both like a lot more than Restorative Mantras. It’s just a matter of differences in playingstyle I think.
Today I played with this build which I think ins’t as good as my Nr. 2.
I’m still trying this and want to see which one fits my style the best. For now it’s the Nr. 2 because It combines lockdown and a high dmg. With one charge MoDistraction+Halting strike has a higher dmgpotential than MoPain but a higher cooldown as well.

With the builds “Nr. 1”-“Nr. 4” I just wanted to show how many playstyles you can reach with 30/20/10/10/0. My favorite is Nr. 2 because I love interrupting (this is the reason why I like Halting Strike that much and would NOT agree with Crippling Dissipation). Atm I’m training to optimize my interrupts so that every daze I hit is one. I do also always save one interrupt of the Mantra for the enemy’s healspell what kills most of them. My only problem with this build is boonremoval so if my foe has stability I’m having a hard time.
Do you know any way to deal with this? It’s one of my biggest problems when I’m playing this build.
Maybe I have to use my Autohit more what makes me vunerable to meeles. I usually play MH sword for stunbreak and evade+dmg. Not for the autohit.

What do you think about this version?

Add: A short question: What do you mean with DE?

Even though it only affects clones and you’re lacking DE,…

A few combinations for the different traitlines:

  • Domination:
    III/II/XI
    III/VII/XI
    III/V/XI
    This line depends on your playing style. If you use interrupts then you should take II. Against guards and elementalists VII can be one of the most useful traits. But imo V is always great so that’s my choice.
  • Dueling:
    II/IV or II/VIIfor more dmg through your phantasms
    I/X or I/IVfor survivalability and safety
    When you decide what to use in this traitline you should keep in mind what you want to be. Do you want to play as save as possible? -> X Do you rely on your Utilitys or on your weaponskills? IV/I your choice. Since mantras are part of the core of this build you can always use VII.
  • Chaos:
    V or IV?
    This isn’t that hard. Both are great traits and both would fit in the build. Do you sacrefice your clones or do you keep them? – V or IV?
  • Inspiration:
    Since every trait from this line is great I’ll explain all of them regarding the utilitys and the playstyle.
    II – This should be clear for every mesmerplayer. Your glamours can be awesome for teamfights, duels and 1vX. Nullfield becomes one of the best condition- and boonremove skills in the game.
    IV – This you should only use in combination with MoRecovery. It cleans 3 conditions and can save you in many situations.
    V – This is a great thing in any phantasmbuild. If they life longer they deal more dmg
    VI – Like I already said movement is a real lifesaver and you can use this trait to be faster when chasing an enemy.

The Utilitys:
Depending on your Traits you can use a lot of utilitys in this build.

  • Healing:
    MoRecovery or Ether Feast – If you’re not using Mender’s Purity for conditionremove your should use Ether Feast since it’s the strongest healskill the mesmer has.
  • Conditionremove:
    Nullfield/MoResolve/Arcane Thievery you can use all of them. When you use Nullfield you should also use Glamour Mastery and for Arcane Thievery it’s good to trait Far-Reaching Manipulations. MoResolve isn’t bound to any traits (except XI in domination) so just use it as you like. (Phantasmal Disenchanter also works)
  • Stunbreaks:
    MoConcentration/Blink/Decoy + Swap(Sword 3)
    When you use a sword you always have a stunbreak in your weapon so you should only need one in your utilitys. MoConcentration is still a good choice especially when fighting stunlock builds it’s a real counter.
  • Others
    MoPain/MoDistraction/Feedback/Phantasmal Defender.
    This is just a slot you can use for anything you like. Dmgboost with MoPain, more and precise interrupts using MoDistraction, better Defense when having a Defender that takes 50% of the damage… this slot is just for you. You’re completly free what to use. (well you are anyways but with this slot you are even more).

Hey, thank you Chaos for this thread again I’ve learned something new. (As always when I’m reading your threads ).
Now my Idea to optimize your build core for solo roaming in WvW:

When I started roaming I set rules for myself that I use for crafting builds now.

  1. I never use a build with less than 2 stunbreaks (sword 3 also counts if used right)
  2. I always have conditionremoval for at least 4 conditions.
  3. I always try to have Defense>Offense (It’s roaming so you may have 1v4/5)
  4. I also need skills to stop my enemys (stun/cripple/immobilize/boonremoval)
  5. I can always play my builds without bufffood!

In this build I took your base, changed it a bit that it fits my rules.

I choose 30/20/10/10/0 for my version with the weapons sword/sword and staff or greadsword. As you all may know the staff is for situations where you have to play more on defense and the gs is for the burst.
This is my base
Traits that would match in this build:

  • Domination:
    III) Empowered Illusions – It’s a build based on Phantasmdmg so it’s a really good dmgboost.
    II) Halting Strike – A good dmgboost for Chaosstorm/Counter Blade/Illusionary Wave
    V) Crippling Dissipation – Can be used instead of II for more control of your enemy.
    VII) Shattered Concentration – Even if you’re playing a phantasmbuild you will shatter.
    XI) Harmonious Mantras – It’s a Mantrabuild so why not? Also it’s part of the core from Chaos
  • Dueling:
    I) Far-Reaching Manipulations – For this I’d swap out Decoy with blink (also reduces CD of Arcane thivery by 5s)
    II) Phantasmal Fury – imo a musthave for any phantasmbuild (not really must but a “should have”)
    IV) Blade Training – You use double sword in one set so it’s quite amazing
    VII) Mantra Mastery – -20% cooldown on Mantras in a Mantrabuild? should be enough explanation
    X) Deceptve Evation – Also great in ANY mesmerbuild having many clones is always a nice thing.
  • Chaos:
    IV) Illusionary Defense – great defense trait when you try to keep your illusions up
    V) Debilitating Dissipation – Also a nice extra but it may be to random
  • Inspiration:
    II) Glamour Mastery – When using Nullfield as conditionremove the best trait of the line.
    IV) Mender’s Purity – If you have a “low”(less than 4) conditionremove skill then this is your choice.
    V) Persisting Images – Always nice in a phantasmbuild so when you don’t need to think about your conditionremoval
    VI) Compunding Celerity – Movement can save your life. Trust me (this trait only affects moving forward).

Hey guys a short question:
What’s better? I’ve tried both and imo both are great so which one shall i use?
This thread should be a help for players like me who can’t choose :P
Here are the arguments I could find (please add some)

Pros for 0 20 0 25 25:

  • Faster CD on ANY Phantasm
  • Bleed from Sharper Images + 250Conditiondmg
  • 3%^3 More Dmg (Does not include Phantasms)

Pros for 10 30 0 30 0

  • More Precision/Critdmg
  • 15% more Phantasmdmg
  • Phatasms do not need -20%cd (most of the bosses kill them with aoe anyways)

I usually play Sword,Sword/Sword,Focus but sometimes i Switch to Staff/Sword,Fokus because I need a range weapon. Even if the autoattack doesn’t hit as hard as spatial surge with a staff you can easily teleport out of aoes (e.g. lupicus bubble) and grant aegis to you and your teammates and most important: you can chill out in any bossfight.

And I’m talking about WvW roaming (and a bit of PvE).^^

Hm phantasms get the marojstats from their mesmers (Strengh, Precision, Toughness, a bit Vitality, …., and Critical Dmg) Even a already summoned Phantasm gains advantage of mightstacks/blooslust so they copy your stats the whole time.

Dmg ist calculated like this: (Power*Weapondmg*Skilldmg/Armor)*Multiplicators.
Why can’t they just get the mesmers multiplicators and put it for the phantasm as well?

I love the trait.
You can reflet 60% of the time with this trait just rezzing (only hit rezz not continue) a npc who’s dead. Also nice fighting giganticus lupicus in range when you need to rezz someone you’re save from his shots/aoes.

The question is in the title.
Did Anet ever say somthing regarding that topic? Is it just a technical problem or do they think it’d unbalance the game?
Don’t you think that’s not fair? Every of our weapons got one Phantasm. One skill that’s not affected by Sigil of Force/Night/Slaying or Runes like Ranger/Scholar.

Please let me know about your opinion.
