Thanks, I will need to do some reading up on that method. I had completely spaced out that a server may have more than one instance running on it.

My god doesn’t anyone have a link to what f2p’ers are allowed and not allowed. It’s not like it’s important or anything.

Thanks, but we have all seen that. All it says for the TP is “Can buy and sell items from a selected list”. People are looking for what that list is.

getting map corresponding to an ip?

I am putting together itunes playlists for each region (pink floyd for orr, ramstein for ascalon, etc). While obviously I could go out of the game and switch it manually of course my first thought was to wonder if I could do it programmatically. Is there a call that will give me the area for a given ip (ie, the one I am on which I can get by looking at my network connections). Even better, are there fixed ip ranges for different maps or the same area?

How about breaking them up into tomes? For 80s we can use them to get a shard (or is it a HP when we get HOT?) and for our low-levels we can still use them no matter where they are.

Hit the festival in Diessa and the centaur war in Kessex. There are other chains but those two go pretty much continuously.

Note that I am assuming a few hours a day on weekdays (a full-time job and other things to do after dinner) and long sessions on weekends. I am also assuming that you do not dilly-dally, yesterday for my necro I only stopped running to see merchants or salvage a bunch of stuff for the TP. Doing hearts as a bonus because I was nearby killing whatever.

The etiquette of standing inside people

While I have never stood inside anyone intentionally (except at an event) I find it a bit awkward to be running and run through someone by mistake. I feel like I should apologize but that is not always an option anyway.

It could be worse. In second life some people get offended when others look at them too closely because they think people are trying to see what skins they have on and copy their look.

I do not care as much about runes/sigils unless they drastically change the prices of superior ones. I am most concerned about them selling mats above T1. Imagine if the ecto supply was suddenly doubled. If T6s were not worth a trip to a level 80 area. If the tools and time to get T2-T5 did not make it worth it to gather them.

Hopefully someone is monitoring prices and dynamically changing what they have access to so as not to allow more fluctuation than normal.

What I find even more interesting is the ones who play it quite a bit will be hitting 30 this week. I happened to start a character Friday and am in the low 30s as of last night and know where the places are for fast advancement in pve. That also means the first ftp 80s are just about a month away. At that point they will be everywhere.

My fear is not the ftp players themselves but what they can do to the economy via the tp. A few could even grief events without doing anything reportable as well. So it would be nice to know how many ftp players are out there so we can figure out a strategy as a community. Unfortunately it is unlikely we will ever know.

It would seem to me, that the issue isn’t that achievements need boosts. It’s that most achievements are grind over time, and not skill based.

There are things I would love to see as an achieve/title. For example, everyone has weapons they love and ones they hate. We have 1000 kills for all of them. What if there was one for 1,000 kills with all of them? Sure, you could grind it but part of that time you would be using something you did not like.

Take the hammer. The revenant is the only time I actually liked it as swinging around a stick with a heavy piece of metal on one end strikes me as a bit uncouth.

Because they become part of the meta and requirements for elitists to exploit instead of purely showing achievement.

Right now they are about the same thing as I ran into. I got looked down on earlier for not having the thing that said I did world completion. So what? If you are not crafting a legendary it is just bragging rights.

Fortunately, world completion now gives you a star beside your name, whether you wear the title or not.

Unfortunately, you now get people asking you “What’s that star beside your name?”

But for laughs, I could imagine wearing the “golden” title and having a sunbeam shining on you wherever you go. Or wearing “honourary skritt” and gaining a tail.

This was the opposite though. It was in the tone of that I was basically a newbie because I did not find it worthwhile to complete everything on every map. In other words, by having it be a title only people would need to choose what to be snobby about but by having the star now they can be snobby about 2 things just from your name-tag.

Sure, a person did some achievement. Yay for them. Just do not assume everyone else places the same value on what to do though.

Ah, my misunderstanding. Indeed, that snobbery is uncalled for. Those people don’t deserve you.

If only there was a title that showed you have titles but choose not to show them. Like.. “Title left intentionally blank” ..or “If you’re reading this, you’re standing too close.”

No problem, maybe if I quoted another post it would have been more clear. I was saying that titles already have a use, most probably not the one that was intended, but hey. What is funny was we were talking about past game experiences and I jumped in for organization as soon as I realized the map was not as organized for the event as I thought.

Not that a title that says you have been everywhere means anything. I have came across those titles afking in rather stupid places which anyone who had been there at least once would know. I try to use as wide a range of my titles as possible, some humorously.

Interesting, I had just assumed you had to have a couple hundred people before you were a guild. Knowing there is no lower limit changes things somewhat. I had never thought of DE as a guild but it does what I want in having members of all races under one ‘banner’ in a way that I can weave into their stories.

I wish the PS would let us put in stuff like that and have it visible to people. It would be ideal in a RP environment.

think of it this way…. say you have a rich uncle, who provides you with your housing and college funds to get you thru college…. you tell him that you want to study art, theatre, musical arts as your major. The rich uncle says “thats fine, but I will only give you 1/10th of the money I was going to give you unless you study Business management, accounting, Math, Economics,” you say to him “I cant afford to go to this college without that money though”, Uncle says “Then We will be seeing you as the new intern at the company I own then in the fall…” You say “ok” , but dont tell your friends as you are to embarassed to admit that your uncle owns you liek a kitten…

This is how I see their relationship. While Anet has some freedom to study and do what it wants, the purse strings still belong to NCSoft who might also own certian software licenses and copyrights etc, to make life very hard if they choose to…. You are smart enuff to figure out the rest from here I think!

Or the parallel after getting my physics degree. Wanting to study computational physics, my parents never having heard of the field, them assuming it was an excuse to goof off, so my settling for studying computer science instead because they knew what it was.The point is the entity with the power/$$ sets the rules. You may not like it but once something is changed it has ripple effects all the way down the line.

Hopefully this will give anet a chance to decide what they want to do. They will make some bad choices, sure, but they can learn from them and make a better choice next time.

means the dev team and its lore dept will be making the content and deciding on how the story goes, instead of a distanced NCSoft… You should care because the game is about to get more immersive in the story department!

^This is most definitely the hope. There are tons of things that are of benefit to the player base that can come of this. Mostly it means ArenaNet is in charge. If things stay rosy for them financially they will be operating fairly autonomously. That went very well during GW1 and hopefully we will see more of that with GW2 now because of it. They released a ton of permanent playable content at a breakneck speed in GW1. My hope is that we will see more of that and less gem shop content for 8+ months this year with no content to go along with it. I always wanted the gem shop to subsidize playable content being released at the same time as the gem shop content. For some reason the living story seasonal content stopped. It shouldn’t have. Those teams should have kept on making content for players while the x-pac was being developed by wholly different teams. Heck, they could have done side stories with characters not involved int he main story. Instead they put all hands on deck and we got a boatload of nothing for the better part of this year.

What would be interesting is if new gem store items kept pace with the LS and other things going on in the world (which skins and so forth) which tighter integration could give us. I would love to see that as right now what is offered is pretty random.

Character xyz leads a uniformed army into the new maps? Guess what skins and outfits appear on the gem store.

Not just physical distance either. The two companies are in parts of the world that could not not be further apart culturally. It will be interesting to see how it plays out as some things were removed because they did not work as well to an Asian audience as to players from NA and Europe.

As to AP being an indicator of how good someone is with a certain class … umm, ok. Yesterday I hit 5k and I was on my necro … who I just rolled on Friday. I have not ran a necro before but if you went solely by my AP you would not think that. Just, oh, do something like ask.

No, saying something in LFG like ‘experienced players only’ (what is experienced?) or setting a minimum AP requirement does not tell you that. I would give a cursory listing of what you want then talk to people to get a better idea if they fit. Also remember that people lie, do not just go on what they say but what impression you get.

For example yesterday my party wound up facing something that rarely appears there (usually when it appears the entire party is wiped out in seconds). I had seen it before so knew what to do to stay alive and what tricks it would pull, but I had to stay on my toes constantly. Afterwards my reaction in /party was how that particular monster is a real pain. Meanwhile many were ‘what was THAT’ (and most likely died, I did not have time to look during the encounter). Admittedly there were no requirements other than being at least a level in the upper 60s but things like what gear someone has, their level, AP, or their class is not an indicator of how well they will do when the chips are down.

Anet refuses to add the proper tools to see if people are geared and built correctly so even though AP is a terrible indicator people use what they have because it is still better than nothing at all.

Umm, what business is it of someone else what other people have for gear? Do not trust someone when you ask what they have? Do not party with them. Even the person who has the best gear in the world might stab you in the back at the worst possible time so I have no idea why what gear someone has would make a difference.

What am I missing? I would think whether you trust someone would be FAR more important than what gear they claim to have.

All of my characters have some 20 slot Halloween pails. Some in every slot. I keep most of my stuff that I do not anticipate a need for in the bank (which I bought several extra slots for) so my average inventory carried around is about 30. Even that could be reduced really. Anyway, the reason I keep so much space available is for unpacking bunches of chests at a time.

Buying the cobs is no big deal. Even low level characters can pull in a few gold a day by salvaging everything they do not need and utilizing resource nodes. Sure, they can not go to Southsun to get the flowers but all of that soft wood and iron adds up.

A separate channel is equally open to abuse. If it doesn’t include veterans, then it still offers incentives to spammers, which then defeats the purpose of a /help channel.

I agree that a forum for PfF accounts would be helpful. However, it doesn’t address the issues raised by the OP. (Worse, I’m pretty sure the existing forum technology doesn’t support it.)

I am not convinced it is worth it to the gold sellers when they can use /map. If FTP players have money for gold they would have money for the full game. If they are interested enough in the game that gold would tempt them they would also want the full game.

If the forum technology does not support it then spin up another copy of the forums and link to that. If that is not doable put them someplace where anyone can sign up whether they are a player or not (it is ftp so anyone can get an account anyway).

Maguuma (Sylvari area) – mood music, the type of stuff you would use for meditation, reiki, or massage

2) Which of those groups are more accepting of the other races as part of them? Whether we are talking full members or ‘honorary’ ones.

3) Are all Asura in a krewe always members of the same college?

4) Are all Charr in a warband always members of the same legion?

As you can guess from these questions I am trying to think of a good lore description that would include all of my characters into the same group.

There is no reason at all why a system could not exist that would solve both sides of the issue.

You haven’t suggested what such a system would look like: how do you prevent free reign by botters/spammers, without putting serious chat restrictions on Free Accounts?

Actually, I gave a couple of suggestions, I am not sure if I listed them here or in another thread though.

One is a separate channel. Not /map, but some new one. Other new users could use it. Existing users who wanted to help could use it. Everyone else could just not use it.

Another one is to implement a forum that they could use. This would not do for immediate things obviously (look behind you!) but it would allow people to give a thought-out response.

Increase the frequency of events in starter.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

I find that some events run almost continually. Queensdale the guy collecting scale eggs, you can finish it, go outside with the trash, or take a walk to the bathroom or something and it is ready again (slight exaggeration). In Kessex Hills you can almost sit and wait for the whole Centaur war event chain.

I would like to see more variation in events, I tend to see the same ones over and over. Would be interesting to see them tie together more events, so they chain together from where one ends to another one starts. So you can literally follow through 3-4 events in a row and see some that is more rare nowadays.

Kessex. Drool. I am leveling up a character right now and shot up from 25 to halfway through 27 yesterday just running between several different centaur and toxic events. One would be winding down and I would just start up with the one next to it. I must have done just the spider 3 times. I wound up leaving between being bored and having to be elsewhere. Even trying to leave the area I kept running into more events, so much so that I wound up just waypointing to get out of there.

For levels in the teens I would suggest Diessa at the festival near the way to get to Wayfarer Foothills. There is always at least 1 event going or about to start at it.

Some people may have other suggestions but you may want to consider the starter area bosses. Their pres spawn every 30 minutes but if you forget which one is when a boss timer will tell you. You should complete all of the events there with a few minutes to spare before the next one. That does bring up an interesting point though: why is their not a charr starter area boss?
