Well, I made certain I specifically bought gems with gold today. Why since it is at an inflated price? To deny anet the money. I also bought precisely enough gems I needed so they would not gain any interest from my money sitting in their bank account if they do get money from gold.
You just read the posts of what people are asking for and compare it to what has been in the sale.
Forum post does not represent all player. Many many player never post on forum. You can not say for example 100 people who say on forum we do not get what we want mean it is the same for all player. Unless you talk personal to all player in game and they tell you what they want then you can not say sale did not give what player want. You can only make guess but guess is not fact.
If you read forum for a long time you see some player think it cool thing to do to complain about everything every chance. They have been on internet and see other do it and think I will also complain always because it is cool to do. They like attention of making complaint always even when they do not really feel the same.
boggles Pretty much everyone who is buying character/bank slots wants them to go on sale. They have been on sale in the past so there was no reason not to expect they would not do so again.
Of course player that want to buy a character slot want it to be on sale. Haha no joke. I want to buy new TV I want it to be on sale to. Does not mean it happen. Think about this. Arena net just give out very many character slot to people that buy HoT. Maybe that is why it was not a sale this time.
There is plenty of precedent for character slots going on sale so it was widely expected this would be the same. You can say anet makes more money buy people not buying them on sale, fine. Do you know anything about the time value of money? Interest? When people assume a sale is upcoming (which, as I said, there was no reason not to) they put off their purchases. This does not just affect that one item, they are more miserly buying everything else so they have enough money/gems on hand to be able to participate in the sale.
You mentioned wanting a TV so I will use that as an example. Say you wanted a new tv, not ‘needed’ because your old one broke, just some of the newer models caught your eye. You know with a near certainty they would go on sale soon. Would you run out and buy one now or see if they go on sale?

Finally our long Tyrian nightmare is over. Well, one of them, we will still need to deal with the mordy crier and announcements all day.
I picked up the skins. As another person said you never know when you will need them. Even though I was ‘meh’ at the pet rock so many people were amazed by it at a higher price I picked it up as well. They were NOT my choices for a way to end a sale (which you would expect would end with a bang).
Oh well. Got the dragon skins. One never knows when having a particular skin is the final touch needed to finish a look.
That is the logic I use with any skin on sale, you never know when you will need it so I picked it up. The pet rock I am generally meh about but it was so low I figured may as well.
SELFLESS POTION PLEASE
that would be an amazin storm in forum and ingame
realistic:;
bank golem 300 gems instead of 500 gems will be the special deal at the end
Is it me that never sees a point to the black lion items that allow you access to your bank, a merchant, or the trading post? Most zones have at least a merchant and often one of the other two. Plus you can usually pop into the mists and get all three done there.
Whuh?
Helping new players=good. Using it to feed your ego=bad. Helping them means helping them, it is not for you.
I look at the role as being one of offering advice. Like telling someone concentrating on a heart that it will always be there but they probably want to participate in the event that is going on around them.
While we do not meet DE until chapter 30 if we were living in Tyria you would have some general knowledge about it. Think of it that you probably have not met Obama but you most likely know the US has a president. They do not need to be interactive, just a cutscene somewhere would do to give you a world orientation on DE and some other topics.
We don’t need no gods, we’re the firing squad.
Something bad so I am not on the edge of my seat every day hoping it will be good?
For something good though: character slots. No silly restrictions like 1 or 2 of them as well.
More disappointing sales. What’s the point of these useless sales? Why not put something people want?
How do you know what is in sale is not what people want? Just because it is not thing you want? If you look at rise in gold to gem exchange since sale start I would say the sale has thing people want.
You just read the posts of what people are asking for and compare it to what has been in the sale.
Sure, I have bought some things but they were not the ones I would have chosen to be there. With one exception of something that I needed to stock up on anyway (and was annoyed that I could not buy more of) everything else was skins, most of which I have not used yet.
People didn’t like being overshadowed during their personal story. I hope there’s a branching option where we can betray and kill him.
The down side is that you are then stuck playing Caithe in every story instance from that point forward.
Is that such a bad deal? Especially since it means the end of tree-boy?
Ugh, I hate to run into a group from pretty much any guild at teq as you never know if something will happen. I prefer complete pug maps. Yes, sometimes more of a headache for organization than a guild organized one, but less drama.
I am debating if I should stop at 9 or if I should go for my planned 15.
One thing I am finding odd is that blooms are actual objects taking up inventory space rather than being something in your wallet.
I would VERY strongly vote no on letting free accounts, no matter what the level, get access to the trading post. For how it would affect the economy, whether the people selling were bots or just a lot of humans.
Right now there is a throttle to people doing that to the TP. They need to buy the game. Granted, that is not a huge hurdle but there is a constant ‘be good or you will lose your investment’ thing that reduces, but not eliminates, some of the damage.
I don’t ignore the downed, because I know how much it sucks to be downed and watch hoards of people ignore you when it would take less than a second to help then back up. I don’t get mad at people for doing it, but I can’t bring myself to.
It almost seems like people racing each other to rez someone have gone somehow. For example, I was just in a Mordem fight (no, not related to the event, Iron Marches). I died and someone started rezzing me, I was about to type not to bother so they would not take damage but the monster died first anyway. With the danger gone the person WPed away. Okay, not even a silver in the WP fees but why would someone start rezzing someone then leave as soon as the danger to them dying went away?
Oh well, I picked up the charges, although I had been hoping for the 25-packs to go on sale. You can get 3 of the packs before it jumps up to 150. I am wavering on the jungle outfit as a uniform is about the only thing I could see a bunch of people wearing and this comes close to that.
That takes care of #2 on my list but I have not bought anything since the first days of the sale (the white wings for my valkyrie-like norn and some skins for my necro that will be like Jory). If they do not have character slots (or something awesome we did not anticipate) tomorrow this sale will be a bust.
I would also like to see a place where we could optionally add information. All of my characters have their own stories (which I keep writeups of) and a playlist that matches the way I play them (my asuran necro likes Pink Floyd, my grumpy charr guardian prefers country, my human mesmer likes things like clasical music, etc). Sort of like what second life has.
Lol somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed today
Was just something that had been building for awhile and I keep seeing. I dislike the excuse of people thinking they are being good human beings because they are playing a video game…
Sorry Vayne shouldn’t have directed so much of it at you as for all I know you do volunteer a lot.
I understand your point to a degree but what really irks me is when people say things like “it’s just a game”. It is more than a game it is also a community. If it’s just a game and we should have that mentality does that mean we have the right to be disrespectful to one another, mess with others for our own enjoyment? Of course not and I am sure you would not disagree with that.
Yet when it comes to where you went you are right. But still, for some of us positive actions = positive exp for all involved. Sure we may not be saving the world (who really can?) but we may just be making the day for someone else out there a little bit better. Now really is that a bad thing? The alternative to just not care or have such systems in game in place that work as this event did really just goes against how the game is usually presented to us and why we play this game.
Well that’s my 2 cents anyway. :P
Yes. On my first day I went and did something or other that was stupid and wound up dying. As I pulled up the map to WP I got the “a noble soul is healing you”. I started crying in RL. I knew there and then this was what I had hoped for and not just another MMO. That I wanted to see that attitude never go away.
I can probably give you a solution. From an middle zoom map you can see the name and lvl of explorable maps, if that information does not appear when the map is not explorable .
I hope this can help you .
As was pointed out before the issue is not the level. You can get it from the wiki as well. The issue is finding areas inside a zone you have not explored.
I tend not to see GW2 as not just another MMO but teaching a philophy, it is what drew me here. For example, before this I got convinced to play an online war game …. and hated it. Outside of your own alliance it was dog eat dog, this even affected inside alliance as people became suspicious that newcomers were spies and would turn on you at a moment’s notice. People were sussing out when people were on so they could launch attacks when the enemy was asleep. I was actually happy when we lost as it meant the pain could finally end. Outside of looking for a game myself and others could enjoy I finally settled on GW2 (even though they no longer use it).
I agree that things need to give xp more often. After the first character (or at least the first few characters) leveling to 80 is more pain than it should be. You are not discovering anything new. If something does not give XP there is not a lot of incentive for lower level characters and/or new players to do it. I want to get my necro to 80 ASAP so I can get on with leveling the remaining 8 characters (yes, I have them all planned out by profession and race to #15). Whether that means tomes or just fast-spawning events. I have half a dozen 80s already so I could just sit back and play them all the time, it just happens to be my personal goal to have every race in all 3 armor classes.
Most probably it will be some sort of tie-in to promote HOT. It may just be that the backstory is different though.
But it is a change from the previous philosophy. How many times have you raised (or been raised) by someone else who you did not know?
Yes, I would like EVERY area you need to explore on a map have a WP, POI, or heart in it. As it is now I can get all of those but still not have completed the map. So I need to open up the wiki to find the areas I missed.
WPs I am a bit meh on opening. A compromise is to have them available to your other characters (but the area around them not explored) if discovered once while still allowing them to be discovered (ie, that they could earn XP from them). Maybe use the undiscovered icon to signify a character (including the first one) has not discoveed them yet while still allowing them to use it.
[not another invasion thread, it is a bit too too meta to fit it in a single other thread on several topics]
There is one thing, higher than any others, that drew me to this game and has me putting so many hours per week into it: that to win you need to cooperate. That is clear right from the start. Sure, players who contribute more get higher returns but in general to get those rewards you are not supposed to ‘lone wolf’ stuff.
Like many people I bought a commander tag. I bought it to help with mentoring new players, even though that is now being taken over by the free mentor tag. I feel strongly though that you should only wear it when it helps other players rather than a vanity thing. Be that organizing. mentoring, or pointing out events. As to the last: you do not need 30 tags to point out something like the Caledon wurm, but there is no way to say so. It is why I never wear it in WVW beyond the starter areas hopping back to LA or trying to get in another shard — I would not feel qualified so would cause more confusion than not.
It is why I do not do PVP except for activities when they are a daily. I prefer to think of everyone as potential allies. I do NOT want to learn to think of them as competition and certainly not as enemies.
For events I prefer to see them through to the end unless everyone else has left and it is clear I will not win. Be it the SW or anything. If I tag an event it is usually completely by accident by being in another event next to it. It is not unusual for me to get close to the point of death on pure faith that assistance would arrive in time.
I highly appreciate you saying there was a mistake in the latest event. Clearly the technical issues (drops, xp, difficulty, etc) can be overcome. My concern is the feel of it and how it is teaching new players to think of GW2.
As I said, this seemed a bit to meta to use it as a post elsewhere (F2P, event threads, what). While there was a huge concern over GW2 becoming F2P this is MUCH worse. Right after they join we are teaching them the wrong lessons. The horse is out of the barn now though. I would welcome suggestions from others on how we can coax it to return.
I think a huge part of the problem is no well-defined target audiences. It is too easy on an 80 but insane to everyone else. If someone followed the OP and said “ok, I am in the high teens so I am above the reccomended point and should be good” … well, they got a pretty rude awakening. The character I am doing it with is a character in the 50s who I am leveling … and I either die fast or everything around me dies before I can get within range of it. Then I get to run to the next thing … so I usually wind up just wishing it will get back to the top of the hour so the pain will stop.
Another way it is not welcoming to new players: no xp. Until HOT xp does not mean much to 80s, but it does to anyone leveling. There just does not seem to be much of an incentive to pre-80s to participate in this but it is in the zones they would be in.
Please do not extend it. It will just reward people that can afford to spend all day playing and discourage the rest of us more. At this point we want it to be done with as fast as possible to get back to other things, like HOT preparations.
I have half a dozen 80s and and am trying to level the remaining classes by HOT (then instaleveling a revenant). The character I am using is in the 50s. I play SW all the time so know how to deal with Mordy’s stuff.
If I am discouraged by this what about new players, especially ones at the minimum suggested level? I still die all the time and have a much higher level and game experience. No xp is also a turnoff to new and/or low-level characters who need all of that they can get.
That is the point of the question. If I was doing my normal stuff I would be making progress to leveling but the mordem events do not do that, even potentially. To a level 80 character that is not that big of a deal until we get masteries but to a pre-80 it is EVERYTHING.
I am trying to level a character in the low 50s so I can have one of each class by HOT launch. In addition to the noted minimal bloom problem I am getting no XP (or gold from gathering) for half of my entire weekend of game play.
Can someone tell me why I should give up all that time?
You NEED to extend this event by another 4 days, minimum if you’re going to keep the reward and event timers balanced this way. The way you have it set up now is straight up malicious to the players who have to sacrifice time they could spend doing events that reward more than currency that will only be useful for these 4 days.
Do you honestly expect people who can only play for an hour or so a day to be able to get anything from this? The time per day required is absolutely ridiculous with rewards so low, costs so high, and so freaking little time that the event is available.
If they do extend it it would have to be on weekends. Those of us who, oh, have jobs or school, only get a few hours a day in the game as it is. Extending it a few weekdays would only reward the people who can be at home all day while giving the rest of us mostly nothing.
I am trying to level a character who is right now in the low 50s. She gave up half of her time yesterday for 5 blossoms, no drops, no XP, and no time for using resource nodes. Please give a reason why she should not go back to her normal game play for the weekend?
Hope we get the XP from those missing events, I’ve spent the night doing events with my new engineer and got absolutely nothing to show for it.
I’m sure they will fix it so that we get the missing blooms but the missing XP would be nice as well especially if we are promoting these to the new players.
The lack of XP when promoting this to new players (level 25 I think it was?) is also odd. When leveling a character EVERYTHING is about XP. To ask me to give up half my XP time with my new character for the weekend is a HUGE ask. Occasionally I will get lucky and get points from an adjacent event but otherwise I will not make the planned progress.
You might also want to look at the starter level as well. My latest character is twice your recommended minimum and is dying constantly. It is not my latest character either … I would expect that kind of result at that point if she decided to explore the SW but not Diessa. What about the level 15s that are in there doing normal stuff and one of these events starts next to them?
Gaille-
Thanks for the info. While we all realize a certain amount of RNG is involved is there some formula to ballpark what we should be getting. For example, out of playing 3 events (sorry, I did not keep track of how many invasions in each one) I got nothing at the end of the first one, 5 blooms and a box at the end of the second, and nothing at the end of the third. I can possibly see nada after your first event but the third was a complete mystery: I was probably in more individual invasions then the other two combined (and what are these stacks people are talking about).
I want to know if I have a good shot at the # of blooms I want or not. If not I have some other weekend priorities in-game. If yes, I want to know when I can frantically stop running around.
This is why people are upset with ‘trust us, you will get your rewards later’. We honestly have no idea how much level of work means.
What it boils down to is a simple question. Is it ‘if you grind 24/day, every day, you have a shot’ or is it ‘if you just have fun a couple hours every day you have a shot’?
Thanks
Exactly, if I need some information from a company I, silly me, look on their own site for it first. If by chance they accidentally posted it somewhere else before their own site, copy/paste the text to your own blog/forum and provide a link to the original material if there is a possibility to comment on that other site.
When I go to twitter it is to talk to friends and colleagues. If I want to communicate with companies I use their official communications methods. Social media is WAY down the list for preferred methods, it is for summaries of press releases.
I do not even know what their url is there (and do not even have a login to reddit).
Extend the event for one more day, as a sign of apology, anet?
What is the point of that? Sure, if the extra day could be on a weekend but given it ends on a Monday that extra day would have most of the game sleeping and going to work/school/errands.
How can it possibly be good? If you sign in again you should not have lost credit in the event or forfeit any rewards. How is my 25 minutes followed by a disconnect worth less (except for RNG) than anyone else in the event?
waypoints in the SW?
Its free content…. some of you have serious entitlement issues.
I need to remember to dig up my gem store receipts and report them. That money clearly was not spent by me so must have been stolen, right?
While I love the always running events in the SW that is what I hate about it. That it is always a game of leaving but making sure someone is there to complete the event. It encourages running around tagging as many things as possible by rewarding that … not even something so small as drops to encourage people to stay.
So are we getting 1 extra day because of this bug?
Which would make it another workday assuming concurrent with everything else? Oh yes, there will be a LOT of people who will skip work/school to be online.
You’re expected to play 48 hours a day for the whole event, it’s not like people need to work, eat, or sleep right?
If you want rewards, you have to work for them.
So I am supposed to take 2 days off of work for pixel rewards?
Put them in the gem store anet! It is not like we will not buy them.
Is it true they are not giving xp and karma for this? From the posts it seems like it was aimed at non-80 characters (saying what level you should be at) and the main thing there is xp (karma is a handy plus though).
if u don’t have screenshots get out of the screenshot thread like omg
As she wryly points out that there is no screenshot in that very post …
Well that’s a wrap I think. Too bad it didn’t end with a bang
\
Edit: Nevermind, there’s still hope.
I actually wish it had ended today …. put it out of its misery. If they are not going to have the most requested items on sale (character slots and bunny ears) this is just delaying people buying character slots and keeping the cost of gems way too high. Whether they are in the sale eventually or not people will yell about them until they can buy them again.
What I have decided is that I paid ~5000 gems for 900 gold. Since gold→gems has a fit if you do not have enough gold last night I priced 500 gems and it said 120 gold. If I have heard right that is well above the usual rate, yes? In which case when it drops below 90 gold (I assume within the month) I will get more gems than I put in. If there is something HUGE today I will buy more gems (or maybe convert gold if the rate is not that bad, 30 gold is around what I would make anyway in 10 days).
Yes the new daily system take you out of your comfort zone and have you do diff areas of the game.
For me (and any vets I have talked to) the PVE issue is not a matter of “comfort zones”. I have been to every map. If you said all of my dailies were in Kryta that day, fine. Instead we get a list that rarely (except fractals more often than other places) has 2 things to do in one region. I just want them done, not something to see how fast I can go from ascalon to the shiverpeaks to metrica province … it is running around Tyria for the sake of running around Tyria. Most of their ‘challenges’ are not challenges but huge wastes of time where I could be doing what I want — which is not running WPing around a map to try to get 4 events before they are done because they did not scale up well.
In addition to that there is the reward system with APs in dailies. The total rewards have gone up, true, but you no longer get APs for each achievement (although you do get small chests). If you do not see 3 dailies that interest you you may as well skip them. Especially if you do not plan to level any more characters and/or have plenty of karma.
