I am on GW2 several hours per night. I think I have managed to fill an inventory twice and I get a lot of drops.

When things slow down (you are not in a battle 100% of the time) look through your loot. Junk gets tossed it its own bag to go to the merchant or the mystic toilet (but might get deleted if I need the space) and I then start opening bags/salvaging. A lot of the items will salvage to the same things, just different tiers: mostly wood, ore, cloth, and leather. Sell it on the TP or just hit the option to deposit everything if you are in a hurry.

As I said, I can do several world bosses in a row and have no problem opening the various chests and such. If your complaint is it takes time just do it as part of your routine when you stop at a merchant to get new stuff. Yes, this works even in the SW as I only open stuff when in the fort.

gw2 do not have a mac port.

I believe it still uses a cider wrapper which is basically a specialize version of wine.

Exactly. The exact equivalent would be to use playonlinux to play guild wars 2. Do not like that idea? Why?

Cider is the main reason why gamers scoff at macs. A good late-model mac will blow the doors off of many PCs that windows users use for games. Not hot-rodded custom machines, I am talking the person who is using a 5 year old business laptop over wifi.

Companies release PC games with a cider wrapper. Then say they have a mac version (often beta and/or unsupported) and call it a day.

Aww, I really feel for you. All that treasure is SUCH a burden. Two solutions:

a) do not farm chests in the first place
b) delete those equipment bags after getting the crests and such

I regularly have around 70 free slots in the open world and could have more if I wanted. No, that is not extra bag slots … just regularly cleaning up junk I do not need with me. It allows me to go to several world bosses and open all the loot without worry.

Menadena.7482

Since the release is so close to when they start doing halloween in GW2 my money is on some sort of a tie-in. It will probably be mostly existing content but in a few places (like LA being rebuilt) they need to change things anyway they will probably tweak the lore a bit. It is really anyone’s guess though.

How will other races treat the Sylvari?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Menadena.7482

It does set an interesting precedent. While all the races have different backstories it pretty much comes down to personal preference which one you use with a few minor exceptions like jumping puzzles.

How do we know that tomorrow all the humans will not be wiped out overnight by some plague? Or that asura will not take over the known universe and require all other players to give them protection money? Or that charr do not become the only race that can use the new legendaries? Or that norn do not all decide to leave for another planet?

Charr do not really distinguish. If you were not familiar with them you would have a hard time figuring out their gender. According to the PS, even other charr can be unsure with minimal effort.

Both of my charr are females. One has a broken horn and the other wears an eyepatch. The ranger probably complains as much as males about almost all medium armor looking like skirts. They would both look strange in what humans think is female attire.

I can buy a race keeping to all 4s, but if they have the ability to stand on 2 legs why would they ever swap between 2 and 4?

I didn’t see this subject addressed yet so I apologize if I missed the thread on it.

It’s quite obvious that putting NPC’s next to the bank in LA means they are going to be heard A LOT! You guys know this so their location was obviously planned… Now I have no problem with gay NPC’s in this game….. However I do have a problem with you using “children” to push your politics as though it is just an innocent game the children are playing. If you want to use adults to have this type of conversation then so be it but using children is just tasteless. I’m sure plenty of people will disagree with me… not everyone believes in God and that’s fine but many people do, so how about let’s play neutral and leave stuff like this out of the game completely… thank you for caring. Respect is a two-way street.

What the …. puppy.

That there is a well-known couple has been in the lore much before LA was rebuilt. Also that kids, in real life or in a game, will base their play off of known figures (cops & robbers, etc) is also nothing new. It is just a play on the stereotype of young males going ‘girls! ick!’ with the girl chasing after him.

Your Profession, your opinion.

All classes have their good points and bad points. I would suggest coming up with a list of what attributes you want, from must-have to ‘sounds good but no biggie if I do not have it’. You may also want to do a list of what things you REALLY do not want so you know what are show-stoppers for you. Then you can better decide what features you want.

Some things, like survivability, are relative to how you play them. My ranger, who wears medium armor, does much better in the silver wastes than my guardian, who wears heavy armor.

Here’s a suggestion: design events that at least match the rewards we’d get if we spent the same amount of time farming the Silver Wastes. I’m sure it is still possible to give everyone who participated some form of reward for doing so beyond the paltry blooms we earned.

ANY type of reward really, I would be happy with XP (and maybe drops) if low-level players had as much a shot as 80s. I was leveling my necro and taking a weekend off from doing that, with no xp or other incentive, was just not in the cards. I did 3 invasions Thursday and 1 on Friday but after that just skipped it.

Basically, give us a reason to skip our normal stuff to do other things. It is the same reason why I skip the BWE: I know I will not get to keep any mats from doing my normal stuff so do not see much of an incentive to do play HOT until it is live.

Which will make it odd because so many traits depend on the shroud. So any traitline that has all 3 major traits at some point using the shroud is pretty worthless because you are foregoing some of the advantages of traits. Since I just rolled my necro a few weeks ago I have not gotten used to the shroud yet and I have had a terrible time trying to pick traits that would play to that style.

Maybe they need to rework necro traits then?

I love my ele. Sure, if she takes a hit she is toast, but otherwise is extremely versatile as you noted. What other class can swap builds with a single key between mostly support and pure damage? I would suggest rolling several characters in different professions, leveling them all to 80, then seeing what you like/dislike about each. I have sussed out the personality of each and use an itunes playlist for each to keep me in that frame of mind (for example, the one for my necro is heavily Pink Floyd, but my mesmer is more refined and classical).

Jory's weapons

I am building a Jory homage character. I already picked up the skins and she was training to be a reaper. Her weapons are axe, dagger, and greatsword.

Is it just me or is that not exactly an ideal weapon set? I prefer to have both melee and ranged weapons available in all professions (except ele and eng which do not have weapon switching) so I can use either depending on the situation. Ok, GS is good for melee (well, unless it was nerfed for reapers somehow) but that is not a weapon set that would leap to mind.

Is there something I am missing?

Silverwaste Chest Farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

Silverwaste was supposed to be a map to do the events and fight multiple bosses, NOT a chest farming map. If GW2 wants to keep chest farming in, make it for a limited time, so that those of us that like doing the events can. It is unfair that those of us who like doing the events have to wait until the chest farming group deems it the right time to do so. I also refuse to jump from map to map to map just to find some people to do events with. Keep the chest farming in, just limit it.

How do you propose they limit it?

3 Ideas You'd Like to See in GW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

My top request would be better camera controls. They are better than they used to be but I like being able to stand in one place and pan to places that would involve all sorts of contortions to see (like some of the karkas in the hunt). Obviously this needs a think of how to do it to avoid changing game mechanics, like looking around a corner so you can see the mob without them seeing you.

Some way of applying skins that does not always use transmutation charges. Like if you participate in some big event you can change an item’s look. I was really happy to hear I could change looks to other skins I had unlocked before getting here. Then extremely disappointed when I found out I could only do it with transmutation charges, which were a finite resource (so no being a clothes horse and trying out different looks).

As to number three … hmm. Nothing major, maybe some tweaks to existing things. I would love to see more lore filled out. Not in a PS, but reflected in changes to the living world. For example, most of the races do not have a distinction beyond good guys/bad guys … what if there were more subgroups represented like we have with the charr and asura? I would also like to see ash legion a bit more (guess which legion my charr are in).

Hardware has not stagnated as much as you think. Yes, the rate of things getting better has slowed but it has not stopped.

To go back to the new engine that Linden Lab (the owner of second life) is working on, it will have better graphics but there are no immediate plans to move it to phone. Obviously you could not put a huge game engine on a phone as they exist now. They DO have it in their long-range roadmap for when phone hardware starts to be able to handle it. Industries have learned that if something will take several years to code you should take a reasonable guess at average specs (barring some radical innovation) by then and plan for a bit less than that rather than constraining yourself to what exists now.

For example, I have learned that my apples rarely die. Only one did …. several years after a fan did. One outlasted several clock batteries before I finally recycled it. Which means I do not buy the specs I need today but what I will wish I bought several years from now. Basically, I turn up all the knobs to 11 and get the best cpu, gpu, memory, ssd, etc that are available to me now.

Interestingly, second life is building an entirely new engine for their next offering. Nit counting updates over the years, the server software is not too different in overall structure from what existed in their 2005 beta.

The GW2 engine is newer so there should be no need to rebuild it yet. The problems are of generating content and if said content should be part of a new game or replace existing content (like LA did a few times). If they do introduce major new content to GW2 it might be a good idea to first think of a ‘wish list’ for GW3 and how existing content would map to it. While it would be a different world enough would be the same that you would not want to be reinventing the wheel.

I vaguely seem to remember getting a slightly different list of dailies when another account was leveling. I am not sure if that was a fluke or intentional. However the ones that changed were things in higher level areas rather than ones in the starter zones.

While obviously none of us know anet’s exact plans, especially this far out, I was wondering what people thought of the potential for a GW3 at some point. Do you think it will happen? Why or why not? If yes, when do you think it might happen?

The existing content is a bit static. It would be nice to see a re-imagined world. For example, maybe an Orr that was cleaned up again. Inhabited by Tengu (now a playable race) maybe.

Most of this is just curiosity as to what other people think. Although part of it is the idea of being on the eventual ‘ground floor’ of a game being appealing.

Haha you are funny. You think all player want character slot so it should be on sale. You think you know what all player want. You also think you know how all player spend gem or save.[/quote]

sigh Let me guess, you have free slots or if they are filled you do not intend on rolling more characters, right?

There is a LONG history of character slot sales. A lot of us vets were just routinely expecting that history to continue and not stop abruptly. It would be if there was not a Wintersday this December for no good reason.

As to how people spend and save, it has nothing to do with the game or the gem store. It is how they behave. If you condition people that some widget will go on sale on a certain date when that date is approaching many will think ‘do I really need to buy this now’ if it is not an immediate need. Yes, you will still have impulse purchasers, but many more people actually think before buying something.

No, I have not talked to EVERY player in the game. Have you?
